I am hoping to get some advise /help with an issue I'm experiencing with my HTC Vivid ( A gift form a friend in the US).
The phone worked perfectly for the first few weeks I had it but as of a few days ago it keeps 'hanging' on he white HTC screen.
I have tried a couple of things mentioned on the forum , installing a new custom ROM (was running Holics 0.8 and downloaded and tried with 1.1).
I am able to run through the whole setup however it still won't boot through.
What I have noticed is if I hold down vol- and power I get:
Juopunut Bear
Holiday PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBoot-1.85 252
SD Chekcing - Loading [ PHDIAG39.Zip ]
No Image !!!
-------
It does this for a few things and then goes through to the main screen with Fastboot , Recovery etc.
If I click Recovery I go through to CWM-Based recovery v5.5.0.4 , but this also gives errors at the bottom of the page:
E:Can't find mount /cache/recovery/command
E:Can't find mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't find mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
My computer detects something is plugged in if I plug it in but HTC sense doesn't and neither does the Stock RUU application.
I can't browse to the card if the phone is plugged in either (not being detected as external storage).
If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.
If you can open hboot then fastboot I would relock the boot loader run the stock ruu rom then go back and unlock , root , ect.

How do I run the stock RUU ? can I just put it on the SD card ?
I'm sure on the sd thing , but what you will need to do is go to htcdev .com and relock the bootloader
Then download the stock ruu and just follow the prompts and let it finish do not unplug the USB cord till its done .
Once its done you will still have s off but a relocked bootloader and unrooted stock ics
Then you can just go and do the unlock, root, then flash away via sd card.
Just open the file of the ruu it should open up .

To run the RUU
relock your bootloader in fastboot fastboot oem lock
and then run the RUU

Unfortunately as mentioned in my original post the stock RUU doesn't detect my phone , neither does HTC sync app
Can you get in hboot ? If so select fastboot once it is selected it will pop up fastboot USB then it should see the phone.

So you were in fastboot mode, plugged it in, the PC detected the phone, which allowed you to issue the OEM relock command.
Then... you get the phone into Fastboot mode again, plug it in, PC detects it, then run the RUU... but the RUU doesn't see it? IS there a specific message that the RUU gives you?
Good Job.
When I was first hacking up my Vivid, I had issues with my phone not being detected. Sometimes I'd have have to restart my machine just to get it to pick up. The RUU wouldn't see it, and even "adb devices" would show no device connected. It's just one of those WINDOWS things I guess.
One thing you want to ensure you do is close the HTC Sync app, then on the phone, switch between Hard Drive and Charge only mode a few times. checking with "adb devices" or "fastboot devices" should tell you whether or not it's connected.
I've never had a problem with the phone not picking up when I reboot it into fastboot though.
Question if my phone is low battery can I still do this message my phone seems to be semi bricked I'm s-on

hi
after having problems with ICS i wanted to go back to an original rom.
after downloading and running the ruu.exe my phone gets stuck on the white startup screen with the green HTC logo.
when going into recovery mode (hboot) i can go into recovery or usb mode.
choosing the usb mode should be able to do the ruu.exe again (prob did use the wrong version) only problem in here is the state of the battery -it's less the 30%- therefore it's not possible to run the ruu.exe.
and the alternative bootloader is not reachable/gone so i can't install a custom rom (zip.file)
been looking around overhere but cant seem to find the sollution how to fix this.
any help would be appreciated verry much.

If you have adb/fastboot installed, open cmd window and type the following with your phone in fastboot mode
Code:
fastboot getvar all
post the output here not including imei and serial.

At this point it does only connect to the computer when booting in HBOOT (hboot usb)
are there any options to use it as a drive or something while booting in HBOOT since the phone won't be seen by the computer when i power up normally

Can you enter recovery?
Doing any kind of system update is generally unadvisable on an s-off device. You may have mentioned this at some point but I missed it: By not booting, do you mean bootloop? What Rom did you have installed?

i used to have a cynogen mod rom with an bootloader being able to flash zip files from the sd card (dont know wich one anymore)
after wanting back the stock rom i did a downgrade from cynogen to the stock rom with the original hboot ( so basicly factory settings)
When turn on the phone and go into HBOOT i can do a recovery or a factory reset and go into usb boot mode.
both the recovery and the restore option don't work, after a while the phone does reset and get stuck at a white screen with green HTCC letters THATS IT.
going into HBOOT usb mode the phone is found as a HTC device in the device manager but not shown in the explorer so still not reachable
I think you're still far away from having enough knowledge to even explain what problem you have, cause you obviously don't know the meaning and difference between bootloader and recovery.
You need to find some good noob tutorial and learn how it all works and how all should be done.

When you get set up, post the output of the command
Code:
fastboot getvar all
remove info like imei and serial number before posting.
Just connect your phone in fastboot mode, check if you have HTC Sync and if drivers are installed. If drivers are not installed (and you have exclamation mark over it in Device Manager) choose to update driver and lead it to folder HTC in Program Files, there you have 2 different folders with drivers try both of them.
After that command prompt should see your phone in fastboot mode with
fastboot devices
Command.
Then simply flash recovery from fastboot
fastboot flash recovery c:\'path to your recovery'
Recovery can be obtained on RomManager site. After that just restore some of your backups or flash a clean new rom.
If that doesn't work, and shoud work, you can always run newest stocks ICS.
And one more question, how do you think to get your phone connected in storage mode (so you can see it in explorer) when you can't boot it up or boot to recovery???

ok this might sound stupid.
do you mean in a dos box within windows?
if i open a dos box ( cmd ) and type this commando i get an error like this is not recognized as an internal or external command
since the phone is only in the device mannager list i still have no option to get connected with it (thru explorer or something like that)

First, you don't wanna read and you want help, so why are we typing.
Second, for fastboot commands you nead ADB installed or at least fastboot.exe, and you have to lead command prompt to location of ADB tools.
And, at the end, to get phone recognized as a storage (or how you say a drive) YOUR PHONE HAS TO BE BOOTED AND CONNECTED TO PC AS A STORAGE DEVICE OR BOOTED TO A WORKING RECOVERY AND MOUNTED AS STORAGE DEVICE.
I still think that you need to read some tutorial about Android functioning, ADB, phone working mods and partitions and how to handle them. Also, for difference, try to read what we are typing...
1. Ensure you have installed the drivers for your phone model.
2. Search the forums on 'fastboot' (it is obvious you are not setting/using it correctly if you get that error - I know I did )
3. SDCard will only be seen by PC once Android system is booted up or HBOOT is loaded correctly then it can be accessed through HBOOT using fastboot - it will NOT show up as an external drive on the PC in it's current state.
4. Small steps, if you know roughly which rom you had installed I would use that to recover your phone from, starting with HBOOT then RECOVERY one at a time, to know what and how takes reading up in the forums for your phone and rom.

Yes I did mean a cmd window. As stated previously, you need fastboot and adb installed. If you use my downgrade script (link in Sig) and unzip it, it contains the correct files. You need your drivers installed though (install and uninstall HTCsync) and you need to cd to the files directory.

drives might still be the problem.
there are no exclamation marks in the device manager. in the device manages i got a "Android usb device - My HTC" but adb wont show up any connected device.
checked thru "adb devices" there are no connected devices shown
Reboot to fastboot and type
fastboot devices
Not adb devices, abd commands can be used from recovery or a booted device. Try to google something about fastboot commands, you will find a lot of it.
If it's like my phone there may not be any output for 'devices' after executing the devices command with fastboot you get a blank return and your command prompt back in the command window.
Other commands can be sent regardless of an actual 'devices' returned name, at least that is what I get, with your phones problem atm the same may apply.

Hey guys,
So randomly my phone decided to just turn off (it was just idle on the home screen) and when I booted it back up it was in the Fastboot Menu.
I've tried reboot and even factory reset but neither work they just bring the phone right back to this when I turn it on anyone got any tips for me I'm hoping there's a really simple solution I have naively overlooked.

A few months back I used a RUU to manually update to ICS and everything went fine and I had been running it fine for a long time so I'm not sure if that impacted on this in any way at all.
Anyway since this happened I've tried the old turning it off and on, battery out for an hour, sim out/sd out etc
Also the following:
I've tried running the RUU again but I get error 170 as it gets stuck at "waiting for bootloader" after it reboots the phone at the start of the process
(Tried in all my USB ports, reinstalling drivers/HTC Sync, using original cable)
I tried flashing from my SD card, it reads the zip and asks would you like to update but after I click yes it goes for a few seconds and then says "Partition Update Failed" and prompts me to reboot. (Tried multiple sd's)
I tried to unlock the phone using the HTCDev unlock, however once I get my token and use it to get to the unlock screen on the phone I am unable to select yes my phone simply does not acknowledge the option when I press the power button it instead vibrates a few times and then inevitably I end up selecting the No option after much frustration.
I should probably mention that fastboot lists my device under devices but adb does not.
I would have tried making a goldcard but I currently cannot obtain my CID through adb nor by using readcid.exe with my laptop card reader.
So if anyone could help me out that would be much appreciated as I don't have a warranty on this or anything and HTC support were of exceedingly little help.

Yeah I had a look at that before, I hadn't unlocked my phone before with htcdev but even then when I did try I was able to get my token and run the command and everything perfectly fine and even it takes me to the "Would you like to unlock your phone?" screen on my phone but I am unable to select the yes option and complete the final step which is the frustrating part.

U will need to Downgrade your device from ICS to GB or anything else ...At times it can be Windows 8 ,8.1 issue also ...The driver are still messed up search the forum u will find working way to get driver's work ..Error(170) which means your phone is blank to flash image to boot from or Os for starters..Can u boot in bootloader (Y) then simply working your way via CMD (windows 7 if u can access). It says RELOCKED on your device(Security warning can you paste a screen snap) .
1:- Flash a recovery(if yes skip this)
2:- boot into boot bloader (install any rom via recovery)
3:- flash boot.img manually (fastboot flash boot boot.img)
If it does not work REunlock ur device via htcdev.com
If you were trying to downgrade is HBoot Version (the same issue might happen)
Take stuff's real slow (make sure u do have correct driver installed on your pc )
I'm on CM11 which has been working for weeks, last night my phone died completely and when I put it in the charger it wouldn’t light up no matter which outlet/cord I used. It reboots itself after a few seconds of being on, and so soon that I cant enter into recovery or select factory reset under recovery from bootloader because it selects recovery for me and then turns off. My Hboot is 1.44, S-on, its rooted as well. I have reached the edge of my competence, I'd really appreciate any and all help.

first try to re-flash your recovery to resolve
if not, you must flash stock ROM :
turn your phone on in bootloader mode or RUU mode (fastboot oem rebootRUU)
find your right RUU.exe from here > flash it
Note : you must flash the correct RUU that meet your CID & MID
if you can't know/find the correct RUU?, post your CID & MID

i dont know how to run adb commands when my phone wont turn on long enough to get registered by adb or the computer its on. it cant stay in bootloader for more than a few seconds, cant go into fastboot nor recovery. my radio is 4A 14.3250.13 and my phone is for AT&T, is that helpful?
it seems that there is nothing left to do with the phone. no fastboot, no recovery, no factory reset, no computer recognition. no adb/fastboot command gets the phone to be recognized. i have the latest htc drivers installed manually but when the computer recognizes there is a usb anything it tries to install the drivers but the phone quickly turns off and the driver installation fails. adb devices comes up empty, getvar cid keeps waiting for device forever, and trying to push files doesn’t work because it cant recognize it's there in the first place. is there anything I can do?
Here is the bootloader page I see if it helps.

I appreciate the help but I cant even get my phone to be recognized in fastboot or adb. It said "waiting for device" when i tried to get my cid for hours. It turns off too quickly for the computer to recognize it. Did you have this problem? If so how did you fix it?
Hello,
I am a newbie to the forum. I posses only limited knowledge.
I use a HTC one M7 developers editions. I dropped my phone and since then it had gone in a boot loop and I am not able to get through out of the home screen. It just keeps rebooting.
*** UNLOCKED ***
M7_ul S-ON
HBOOT - 1.57.0000
RADIO-4T.28.3218.04
OS - 6.07.1540.1
I tried to flash the RUU with the help of one of the threads here using an .exe file. As my phone was s-on, I was not able to use the zip. But it kept giving me a error 155. I then tried to have the s-off with FIREWATER to have an earlier RUU like 4.3 installed but I couldn't turn on the USB debugging from the inside of the phone.
I am not sure of what to do now. Any sort of help would be great.
Thanks a lot

that ruu can not be flashed on your phone, because it require s-off.
I think you probably have hardware damage since your phone started bootlooping after you have dropped it. however you could try to restore the 6.07.1540.1 nandroid backup posted in the dev edition update thread in the general section and see if your phone can boot normaly

There is no RUU for your version, the RUU you tried to run was a lower version and you can not run a lower version with being S-ON. If you have TWRP installed you can try to flash a nandroid 6.07.1540.1.

If you can not get USB Debugging enabled, there is not much you can do except send the phone in for repair.

Let try these steps:
1. If you don't have fastboot and adb installed then use Minimal ADB & Fastboot TooL to install them. We will not be able to use the ADB commands but we will be able to use the fastboot commands.
2. Download and place in your adb and fastboot folder TWRP 2.7.1.2 and firmware 6.07.1540.1 (the unmodified one) rename to firmware.zip
3, We need to boot the phone into bootloader. Completely power off your phone. Once the phone is off, press and hold the Power Button + Vol Down the phone will boot into the bootloader. Using the Vol Buttons will move the selection up and down. Highlight or select FASTBOOT, then press the Pwr button to select. Once selected, you should see FASTBOOT where it previously said HBOOT.
4. Connect your phone to the computer, it should say FASTBOOT USB.
5. In the command window type the following commands:
Code:
[B][I][COLOR="Blue"]fastboot devices[/COLOR][/I][/B]
Note: Should see your "serial number device" Copy down your serial number
Code:
[B][I][COLOR="Blue"]fastboot oem rebootRUU[/COLOR][/I][/B]
Note: You should see a silver HTC logo come up on your phone after executing this command.
Note: if this command freezes, just disconnect the USB cable and hold the power and volume down buttons until the device reboots. Then, repeat the steps above again.
Code:
[I][B][COLOR="Blue"]fastboot flash zip firmware.zip[/COLOR][/B][/I]
Note: This will fail, message to say "please flush image again immediately" Just run the command again!
Code:
[B][I][COLOR="Blue"]fastboot flash zip firmware.zip[/COLOR][/I][/B]
Note: The green bar on the phone may not go to 100% of the bar ... but If you see completed on your computer command window, wait for a few seconds and move on.
Code:
[B][I][COLOR="Blue"]fastboot reboot[/COLOR][/I][/B]
Note: Your phone should boot up normally
If it doesn't or you just want to put the nandroid on your phone here is how it is done:
Unzip the nandroid and it will make its own folders on your PC. Since you don't have TWRP installed on your phone you will need to make some folders. Connect your phone to your PC, once it is connected open the Internal Storage folder. Here make a new folder called TWRP. Open that folder make a folder called BACKUPS. Open that folder and make a new folder the name will be your serial number that you copied earlier. Now copy the entire folder the nandroid made earlier to this folder.
Now boot into the bootloader like you did earlier.
Code:
[B][I][COLOR="Blue"]fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.7.1.2-m7.img[/COLOR][/I][/B]
Code:
[B][I][COLOR="Blue"]fastboot erase cache[/COLOR][/I][/B]
Code:
[B][I][COLOR="Blue"]fastboot reboot-bootloader[/COLOR][/I][/B]
Once back in the bootloader, select bootloader and on the next screen select Recovery. When TWRP boots up you will have a number of tiles Backup is one and Restore is another. For sanity sake, I would backup the present system before I restored the nandroid. When you select Restore you should see two if you made a backup the one with the name of the file folder you moved is the nandroid backup. Select it and once it is complete select reboot system and you are done.
