I'm running 4.0.4 LRG
rooted
Notecore v7 kernel
My phone downloaded an automatic update in the middle of the night. It says it is a security and bug update. Roughly 24mb.
Should I install it?
Will I lose root?
Since seeing the potential issue with CWM, the last thing I want to do is brick my phone.

In a rooted phone u wont be able to update over the air.... so dont worry about it
To be honest, I was hoping it would include the emmc fix that Samsung says they were working on
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
i also appeared this update. I have 4.0.4 stock rom with root and notecore v9
Afaik, this is a slight kernel modification, but unfortunately does not address the emmc issue which is still present across all ics stock. Even though you will receive update notifications, if rooted, updates will fail when trying to install.

It will not going to be installed since your device is rooted.

Hi guys,
Just posting to say that yesterday I flashed the ICS from the USA on my P7310XWKJ5 (Europe).
All I needed to do was follow this great instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582943
The file to flash, by Odin, is this one:
http://www.hotfile.com/dl/169458139/5cca4ab/P7310UELPB_P7310XARLPB_XAR.zip.html
Guys... there is no need to worry. This is an official update from Sammy so if you have the Honeycomb stock there will be no problem at all.
I believe that Europe didn't receive the update only to avoid everyone in the world updating at the same time.
ICS with Touchwiz is simply great. The tablet is now much smoother and faster. ICS is much better then HC.
The only thing that you will lose in the update is the config of your 5 homes. Besides that, all your apps will be ok and your saved data.
Don't wait anymore... flashing Odin style and enjoy the best Samsung as to offer.
At least I did...
Cheers! Coragem com isso!
P.S: make sure you have the samsung drivers on your pc... to test it just install Kies and connect your tablet. If Kies recognizes your tablet then you are good to go.
BTW: no need to thank... I didn't do anything... I just pressed my balls against one another (crossed my fingers) and did the update. Thanks for your help almaalma74.

YESSS thanks so much, got it and its working, from Cambridge United Kingdom. Very happy again with my tab 8.9
does this increase the binary counter?
as I got the tab about 2 months ago, and don't want to lose the warranty as of now
I have GT-P7300 international version
Hi prince,
You must wait for the firmware of your model, the 7300.
You must have a little more patience.
This firmware is for the wifi version only.
Cheers.

Mine was HC stock without root or cwm.
I suppose that it doesnt affect the update.

Has anyone else tried this method? I am tired of waiting here in Spain for the ICS update, and with Sammy's background there is a low probability of receiving it in the short-term. Which are the implications of install the USA version? Will I be able to use OTA for update the tablet in the future? Its better to install via CWM? I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

LOL, just gave you a free "thanks" - clicked wrong button.
Anyway, lots of people have done that - well, at least the update using the USA ICS, of course they were coming from a variety of ROM (not only that xwkj5)
Anyway, there's no reason it shouldn't work. A few people (strangely, mostly from Switzerland) had an issue, that the ICS failed to work properly (garbled screen) and found they had to Odin-flash a specific HC 3.2 version, and only then it worked. But that's a minority, and the solution is simple.
future OTA - if you load this ROM, you will get future OTA distributed to the "USA" market. (until you flash another region's ROM)
What to install... if you want to make sure to have the original ICS experience from Samsung (with nothing removed or added), I would recommend to use the stock file for Odin. If you want, you can follow that up with an Odin-flashable recovery & a root.zip flashed from recovery.
see e.g.
for download Odin-flashable recovery (I still prefer the slightly older 5.1.2.6 - for a more complete and logical menu than 5.5.0.4; and more reliable than 6.x)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30839339&postcount=52
for root package:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30837767&postcount=47
Thanks guys for the help. With the fingers crossed today I flashed the usa version via Odin. Simple procedure and very happy with the update. It preserved everything just like a normal update. So long any bugs, huge improvement of perfomance, certainly a new experience. I will try to root it in the nexts days when I have time. Thanks to everyone except Sammy

I updated my P7300 with this image and it works great, except for the obvious loss of 3G.
If you don't have a current requirement for 3G then I can definitely recommend the update.
I used the rooted modded version, btw, with some apps removed. See the development forum.
Updated my UK GT-P7310 yesterday via Odin. Man what a difference! It just feels so much smoother and quicker. Even the boot time seems to have shortened, although I may just be imagining that. No apps lost, no data lost. Absolutely perfect.

I updated my UK GT-P3710 with US Stock ICS via ODIN. Initially smooth and good update. I have had 3 freezes while updating Titanium Backup Pro around 100+ apps. I ended up restoring apps individually with no freezes. I also noticed some brief pauses while playing Airline Control which I have noticed in the past with ICS Custom roms.
I flashed CMW5.5.04 and then used original root from recovery to gain root. No problems. Camera is working great.
I am now trying to flash A1 kernel ver 1.7 wifi to see if I can overclock. FAIL so I restored original boot.img. Overclock might have to wait.
I am liking ICS so much I might get a Galaxy S3 now with rumours of JB update coming.

I just flashed it using ODIN on my 7300... it works without any problem (but without 3G of course).
Just for info: Flashing using ODIN replaces the recovery as well.... so afterwards you will have to re-flash (again using ODIN) a custom recovery in order to continue playing...
Hi there,
I want to ask you all how do I root my stock ICS without installing other custom roms. I just need the stock to be rooted for me to install titanium back up and unroot it after the Jellybean official arrived.
I am having a lot of problem with game save files import and export. Cause most of the game save saved locally on phone.
Any help would be grateful!

Go through Dr.Ketan's guide..you will get to know everything about rooting.
I did the same thing when I first rooted my phone. Just rooted the stock ICS & was using it. So, under development section, you will find the kernel thread in which you will see Philz kernel. Select the one which is for your ICS version & flash it via PC Odin
just install the philz kernel using recovery and you will get root.
If I want to restore back to stock kernel, what should I do? flash stock kernel again?

Yes using mobile odin..

Use Exynos Abuse.
It will work on ICS firmware only. (Not GIngerbread)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050297
Its the safest, easiest and quickest method to root.

I just updated thru Kies in Hong Kong, to 4.04 JB. I tried to use the camera and I had an alert blocking the camera screen and a message bar as follows "Tap and hold shortcuts to edit them. Also combined with it where the OK button was was a text box with the words scanning media in it.
Now, its working after I played with it, first I reboot, that didn't help. Then I accidentally put it into third party mode but hit the up volume to get out of it before it went into download mode. It started to reboot but I held the up-vol, home and on button until it went to the rest screen. I tried to just wipe the cache, but it didn't do anything, moving the selector up and down worked, I tried wiping cache again, no luck, so I just reboot. After rebooting I laid the phone down and started to look for a solution in here. So I go to try the camera again to get the alert message it had, and
Wha La, the darn camera started working right, the alert blocking the screen was gone, it came up as usual for a new triggering, but it accepted my selection when I told it ok and then it went away as usual, computers, micro-processors, no matter what kind, if you have problems, some times just a long shut down to clear the electronic memory will also clear the problems.
Im using lsc ultimate 5.1 and i got an ota update. I checked it out and it says im on a custom rom and it will not update. Its not important but i thought it was strange. Anyone know y?

I had a similar situation once using rocket rom ICS a couple of weeks ago, I booted it up for the first time and just when my finger was about to touch a part of the screen a update notification popped up under my thumb which got pressed :/ dunno what it wanted to update to but I had to stop the update as I was on data. When I was on WiFi I went for manual update and it said that the device was modified and couldn't be updated.
Ditto thats what i did. Not that i care about getting updates anyway just thought it was strange.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
I think you arent getting an upgrade notification but a notification for a check to upgrade like
If I recived an upgrade from Samsung Official and I have phone rooted,it's possible to if I install the update, phone have bootloop after install?
Sent from my GT-S6500D using xda app-developers app
Sorry man cause I don't know. But I have a suggestion for you. It must be another 2.3.6 update. If i were you, I won't update the phone. Mmm but if you want to update just make a backup cause anything can happen.
You get bootloop if you were using oc kernel (1126mhz)
your mobile may not complete updating while rooting it
So, i get galaxy note n7000. It was running 4.0.4 stock. I flashed kernel with odin with root + cwm. Then i wiped data, tried to install rom (it was miui 3.9.6 from here) progress stucked on /formatting system. Then screen went black and phone won't turn on after that. I founded one user from russian forum who had same issue, idk how he fixed it..
So, phone won't turn on , go to recovery, pc can't see it. hardly bricked? By cwm flash..?
Phone has got warranty. Maybe i should bring it to them? Could they know that phone was rooted?
Seems i have the same problem like here...
