I'm currently looking in the market for an app that will let me know what's using my CPU As well as what is continuously synching. I've turned off automatic sync and background data, but it'd be nice to know what apps I could freeze so I can at least get ym emails normally...
Thanks
spare parts' battery history function may have the info you're looking for. you can check for cpu usage, network usage, gps, partial wake..
otherwise i'd suggest watchdog lite, it monitors CPU usage and alerts you when a rogue app goes past the threshold

With Watchdog [I got the app free with Amazon app of the day]. How do I go about freezing an app through there?

I would just turn sync back on and do a logcat in the background while it syncs. That would probably show it. Most likely unless it's the Mail app or whatever that's doing the syncing itself, it's probably a core application in the android/htc framework that you wont be able to disable without crashing/bricking your phone as well. You could modify the file in that case perhaps if you decompiled and read through the dalvik byte code. Lot of work though for something I would probably just live with.

Hello All,
I am facing a high battery drain in my device, when i opened the battery usage, i found that Calender is taking around 32% being second to the display, i stopped all kinds of Syncing but still the calender battery drain is at 25%.
I am not sure what happened, i was using the syncing-on for most of the applications and the calender was not even listed in the battery usage.
Any ideas ?
Thanks
btw, when i click on the calender, i get the following stuff under "included packages" :
HTC Media uploader
HTC sense
Flicker
HTC weather sync provider
Customization settings provider
weather provider
customization setup
com.htc.dcs.service.stock
weather agent service
open sense plugin manager
connect to PC
calender
peep
dcs utility component
friend stream
com.htc.provider.settings
calendar storage
htc location service
stocks
facebook for htc sense
I think that as you have posted it is just what is shown in the battery stats and the actual battery usage is taken up by all the other things relating to HTC sense. Not just the calendar

If your usage pattern haven't changed and you've noticed increased battery drain then check out the games you were using (if any). Some games (even well developed ones) can continue running in the background and drain you battery pretty fast. Haven't noticed this behaviour with apps though.
I searched here and there and found that the calender issue is somehow common, it is usually around endless loop of syncing trials for calender from the phone that causes a high battery drain, but its not confirmed as a root cause.
I tried different suggestions but nothing worked for me, had to perform hard reset, reconfigured everything and the issue is gone, till now at least.
I've tried disabling location reporting in Google maps, I've frozen the HTC weather app. Turned off locations in facebook messenger and facebook app.
I still can't get rid of this dam battery draining wake lock. Any ideas?
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Hi. This wakelock won't amount to much over the course of a full charge. I wouldn't worry about it.
If you're absolutely paranoid about it, is it possible you have location turned on in camera?
over an entire day it does amount to around 10-15% battery loss.
I've switched off all location dependant apps like facebook messenger, camera, twitter, weather and anything else i can think of. After doing a bit of searching it seems to be a JB problem that affects Nexus devices too:
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/ga...ps-battery-drain-post-jellybean-settings.html
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=34458
only way round is to totally disable location reporting in settings
I m using Sony Xperia TX my drained in 8 hrs, i m using android JB 4.1.2 the android system taking above 50% of battery.
Can anyone help me ???
Thanks.
An Amateurs guide to Battery Saving
1. Disable everything that you do not currently need, such as
- Wifi
- Data connection
- GPS
- Rotation sensor
- Synchronisation, auto-location
- Don't use widgets especially not those which need constant updates
2. Delete / uninstall everything not needed, such as
- Facebook
- Twitter
- Timescape and all it's connectors to email, FB, Twitter, etc
- Gmail (use Email, no need to use Gmail)
- de-install all other Google bloat, such as Now, Hangouts, etc.
Root your phone and uninstall the above and more. Basically get rid of all Sony and Google bloatware. Or alternatively, learn how to flash another already trimmed Rom.
3. Disable everything you may need but you are not sure yet (that's in settings\apps). Install Greenify (download from Google Play), greenify apps that you downloaded.
4. Find a replacement for Task manager WITH option to close all programs at once
5. Generally, switch off auto-functions and use your phone manually, and don't install things which you think only you could use.
6. When you are ready trimming your phone and adjusting it to your needs, charge the battery to 100 % + 2 h. By using the phone normally allow it to deplete the battery uninterrupted, until the phone switches off itself. Repeat a second time. Afterwards the device is calibrated to your usage and battery. By far the biggest battery user will be your screen. Usage values in between 40 - 60 % are normal. At this stage it does make most sense getting used to a somewhat dimm screen. Therefore it does not make much sense to be too obsessed with software battery saving methods.
7. A last tip:
- Don't charge your phone always to 100 %. Charge it to somewhere above 90 %, and let it run down to 20 - 10 % before the next charge. Do a 100 % charge only occasionally.
thanks
thanks dude

With stamina mode on, your phone should last a day, at least. But if you keep toggling your phone all the time, 8 hours is good.
Running it 2 hour screen on..cpu speed is 384-12xxmhz but battery cant even last..im just using whatsapp for the first hour and the rest I use to fb and web surfing, does browsing in desktop mode consume more battery??

There's a thank button for a reason.
Use an app called Greenify and hibernate any apps that can potentially reduce battery life. Facebook is an example.

Alarm Manager drain can be avoided by always closing all applications with the back key (not with the home key, as some users do)
Try it, might work!

It is not the alarm manger itself which does this, but connected apps and widgets, I think. It can be Google Talk. Or if you have Google syncing constantly enabled, in particular in the instance one of the sync services can not complete it's task bcs it's broken, that causes big battery drain. Or if you have a weather widget which updates frequently especially if it can not bcs you have no data connection. Look for all these things and switch off what you don't need, disable non essential notification, remove hungry widgets or try another one that just keeps the last data displayed as long as there is no connection or shows "no connection", and not keeps on trying. Many apps also offer the possibility to set the auto-update frequency. For example updating a weather app more often than every 2 h does not make much sense.

Mobil mode uses about 50 - 100 Mb for my websites, I observed desktop connection uses 200 Mb and more. Sure that will effect battery drain at least indirect.

Everything you mentions is off or disconnected.
data connection off, no sync services in background,
Disabled Google apps, talk, hang out ect.
Weather apps updates every 12 hours or unless I manually do it by switching on data connection or wifi..
Then wifi / data connection is off
cheers
I recently facing battery drain by Gallery app.i have tried to find the issue but there is no background data usage and even i restricted the app. Anybody if you know the solution then let me know almost half battery is drained by gallery and i need to charge my device twice.
The gallery was apparently scanning for a random corrupted image, delete it and the drain will go away

Same problem that Xiaomi Gallery App drains Battery in Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro.
What did I do to fix it? (temporarily)
I just deleted all the data and cache from the gallery app and I also disabled background battery usage, background wifi and data usage and removed all permissions from gallery + i don't open the app anymore. (This is just a temporary solution, you will lose some of the features of the device but you can enable them later when you fix the corrupted file(s).
Until I find the corrupted file(s) I will not use the gallery app anymore because I lost half of my battery every day to the gallery app. You can try the method I used or a fix of the different steps I took and see what is suitable for your needs.
How can you fix it permanently? (maybe)
You can install MP4Fix or DiskDigger from Play Store (or download DiskDIgger official apk) and hope that it finds all the corrupted files. Another way to find the corrupted files is to compare all the files from the File Explorer and the Gallery app and see what is missing but it will take a long time and it may still show the corrupted file in the Gallery. Other more serious ways to fix it is by erasing all data (factory reset) or rooting your phone and using a custom rom but be aware you will lose all your data.
How to see the live battery drain on your device?
Also another app to see if your battery is being discharged very fast is Charge Meter (you can download from Play Store),
my device normally draws ~150-300mAh but when I have the gallery app open it draws ~900-1000mAh
Hope this helps!
(I am not a technician and whatever you do with your device I am not responsible. I am not affiliated with any of the apps that I have listed above you can use your own preference of apps if you want. Feel free to contact me if you want to exchange information or ask more questions.)

DiskDigger is just a tool to help you clean your storage so it doesn't find corrupted files, it cleans traces of files you have previously deleted (in some cases files may have not been deleted right). If you want to find a corrupted video use MP4Fix that worked in my case. For corrupted photos you can search the Play Store for an app or search the internet for apps that you can later download the .apk file. I have not yet found an app for corrupted photos but when I do I will post an edit to my recommended solutions, if you find an app that works please share the information to the forum.

So happy to hear that, unfortunately in my phone it is still problematic so I just disabled the gallery app again.
May I ask where the pictures were located in your phone (ex. DCIM folder, Viber folder) and how they got there (ex. downloaded from chrome, camera, viber, instagram e.t.c)? And also if the pictures were showing just fine on the gallery and files apps and how many pictures did you delete.
If you like you can private message me to share this information, if you don't want no hard feelings I just want to help others and myself with the same problem. More information we share, we make it more helpful for others!
