I have the gtn-7000 note. Its on 2.3.6. The kernal is LA6.
Ive read many guides but they are too confusing. Is i t possible if I can root my phone? If not, then what do I have to do? If it requires flashing etc then will it brick my phone?
Thank you.

Go to dr ketan's thread there is a gb rom there that is already rooted when you flash it. The gb rom has no superbrick issue only ics if you factory reset or recovery data wipe or do a nandroid.
Here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1816158
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
On the third post, it tells me how to root but I am a bit confused.
Is Odin the same thing as CWM?
Will this brick/malfunction my note?
After rooting, would I have to download the LA6 kernal?
Can someone give me the link to PC Odin?

1. odin is not CWM
2. yes, there is always a chance to brick, no guarantees.
3. no
just follow this:
2. Long, No raised couter OR Exclamation mark
-Downgrade to Rootable GB ROM and Root it. OR Download This pre rooted GB ROM and flash using PC Odin
-Wipe cache, data and delvic cache from recovery
-Install Mobile Odin Pro
-Copy ICS ROM file in .tar (you want to flash) to Internal SD card (recommended, but you can have it on EXT too)
-Copy one of custom Kernel in .tar file e.g.Notecore, Speedmod, CF root kernel Or other any with same function.
-Open Mobile Odin Pro
-select open file
-Point to ROM file you have copied
-All fiels will popup and feel automatically
-select kernel and point to custom kernel file you have copied
Flash.
Done!
you need to read some more on how to use pc odin properly.

after installing the leaked ics rom for galaxy note how to root it n get cwn on it......?
Download Chainfire's RE_PACKED ICS. its Pre-rooted. you should flash this ROM using CWM. that means you need to install CWM for the current ROM.
Best to come from a CF-Root earlier ROM like LA1 or similar.
-Download and ChainFire Repack .tar file (from ChainFires thread in development) and place on sd card.
-Download ICS ROM you require and place on sd card.
-Open Mobile Odin Pro and in it “Open File”; Click Internal or External SD Card (wherever you placed the .tar file from step 4”); locate folder where you placed CF-repack .tar file, click on the .tar file; ensure EverRoot & the 3 “Inject” options are checked; then “Flash Firmware”. Phone will go into cwm recovery after this.
Stay in recovery and do the following
- Fullwipe (factory reset)
- Install update (from sd card used)
- Find the your ICS zip and flash
- Fullwipe (factory reset) again. This is important.
- Reboot device.
Worked like a charm for me retaining full r/w root.
I installed Midnote 2.0 ics running very smooth. Also tried TR ICS 1.5 but finding Midnote a little better imo.

You need to flash a stock Gingerbread rom from PC Odin. Then you can either wait for an official OTA update in your region, or download and flash the German ICS update that's been posted in the general section. Flash that through PC Odin. To get root, flash the LPY CF-Kernel that's in the development section. Flash the kernel through mobile odin. The lite version will work as you don't have root already and you don't need the everroot option. But I suggest you support the developer of that app, and buy the pro version, who gave you the rooted kernel in the first place
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646023
What I recommend, based on what I did:
- Download the leaked German official ROM (about 600-700Mb), .tar.md5 file and put into your phone's sd-card.
- Install Mobile Odin Pro from Play Store (need to pay. there's free version too, but I suggest you pay for Pro, safer).
- In M. Odin, open the .tar.md5 file, and press flash. (if you don't mind wiping, best to also check the wipe options).
I didn't wipe, and then it couldn't boot.
So I booted into recovery, and wiped data/factory reset and cache, then it booted fine.
Still had root.
Then I installed CF-Kernel. Go to the Dev thread and scroll down till you see the GT...LPY version and download that zip. Unzip to take out the .tar file, copy to sd-card.
Use Mobile Odin to open it, and then flash. It will flash the kernel, and then you will have ClockworkMod recovery so that you can backup/restore ROMs again.
(Note: You can actually do the above in one single step, but opening the CF kernel file after you open the ICS file, so that everything else points to the ICS file except the kernel points to CF Kernel.)
Hit the THANKS button if this helps any of you!
I tried each and every thing to get full root but everytime I end up with that fu** partial root. Is there anybody who can guide me. I had tried following things till now :
1. Installed Factory kJ1 via pc odin.
2. Got full root access in KJ1 GB rom (tested by pasting a file in system folder)
3. Rebooted in recovery.
4. Installed Red pill Abyss kernel.
5. Did all the three wipes in red pill mode.
6. Installed Kingdroid Rom and s3 mod patch via red pill abyss.
7. Booted up in Rom and noticed a partial root.
8. Then flashed Chainfire 5.6 kernel via pc odin.
9. Used remove triangle apk ( succeded in removing triangle)
10. But still that partial root.
11. Then tried to flash cwm.zip via "update from sdcard" mode in CWM but failed to do so. It says no update file available.
12. Then installed the same file via "Select zip from sd card".
13. Did succeded in installing by this method then tried to install SU installer but CWM hangs at "unmounting system".
14. And guess what that fu**ing partial root.
I have tried many times the same methods but still no benefit.
I upgraded using Mobile Odin and I have full root.
When MO loads files, replace kernel with CF-Root 5.6 or any other safe kernel.
Hope it helps.

Edit

Read this post before you continue.
As CF said Beware: update.zip's can trigger the bug if they use "format" commands!
This kernel is safe to restore backups and to perform wipe data and factory reset but do not use it to flash custom roms.

Finally succeded in rooting ICS thanks to robbie hood and his method given in Alliance rom forum.
I know there is a Stock Gingerbread pre-rooted ROM..But is there a pre-rooted Stock ICS ROM with a safe kernal so the only thing I have to do flash it using PC Odin?

Unfortunately, the only safe way for the moment to root ICS is to flash a custom kernel in PC ODIN...I suggest you flash Speedmod or Notecore. Then you can use triangle away to reset the binary counter and get rid of the triangle.
Im on CM9 at the moment.. Just to be sure, Flash stock ICS (should I wipe/factory before or it doesnt matter?). Flash a kernal. Then do a wipe/factory since it´s safe now.. Am I right?
Or another thing, Is there a custom Touchwiz based ICS ROM which is safe from the EMMC bug and is rooted, if yes then which do you recommend for speed and stability?

Ok CM9 is safe to wipe...only if you are using the CM9 kernel. ICS is not safe for certain even running a custom kernel. The safest way to do a full wipe is flashing a GB kernel, wiping and then flashing the custom rom.
There's no Stockish rom that is safe from emmc bug...just the safest is to flash a known so far safe custom kernel and run the custom rom or your choice. I am still running stock rom with notecore kernel and it works great...
Is this safe following?
2. Long, No raised couter OR Exclamation mark

-All fiels will popup and feel automatically

Yes Rivan_92, that is a long yet safe method to root a stock Ice Cream Sandwich firmware. The shorter safe method would be to flash anyone of the safe custom Ice Cream Sandwich kernels listed in the quote, via PC ODIN. After that, download Triangle Away from the Google Play Store to get rid of the yellow triangle.
@Rivan_92
Yes this is one of safest method, N i am sure you copied it from one of my thread.
Still want more detail about procedure find 'ROM switching" on my signature.
Thanks you guys!
Yes dr.ketan, i did copy the text from on of your threads =D also thanks for the thread in your sig. for switching over.. Very detailed and helpful!
Hello everyone, I've just bought my N7000, I used to have a LG P500, then a Xperia Sola, and now my amazing GALAXY NOTE !!!!
I'm reading a lot getting the info needed to get into this device and I find particulary confusing the rooting stuff.
I have found this tutorial by dr.ketan
[24sept12]How to Root/Unroot Samsung Galaxy Note + CWM
BUT acording to this thread by dr.ketan this method is dangerous.... and he says:
Present option to root ICS ROM is
So present option for rooting is - You can select any of one.
1. Short, easy - requires to reset counter
-Download Odin (.tar) version of custom kernel like Notecore, Speedmod, CF root kernel Or other any with same function.
-Flash it using PC odin for PDA tab.
-You will get exclamation mark and raised counter, which can be reset with Triangle Away
2. Long, No raised couter OR Exclamation mark

It is the easiest and safest method to root your phone
I rooted by flashing a zip file.I think there is a site named galaxynoteroot or rootgalaxynote
Anyway, try to find the site.it has video tutorials too

as RAj says just flash the Philz kernel for the rom build from stock recovery and you will get rooted after a reboot
What about this option? is it safe?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35512626&postcount=1
DUDE
go to Philz stock kernel thread. download the kernel that corresponds to your phone from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191
reboot into recovery by doing the 3 finger salute.
flash it. and then reboot.
you are rooted and on a safe kernel.
simple
