Using a Pelican case with N7 - Nexus 7 Accessories

Hi guys,
Just putting this info up for anyone who may be interested. Suggestions/comments always welcome I'm new to the board, so unfortunately, I'm not allowed to post links (you can find all these on Amazon)
I was looking to get a durable case that would fit my new N7. In particular, I was after the Pelican 1055CC. It should also fit a Pelican 1060 case.
After PM-ing a few people on these boards who have owned this case for the N7, it seems that that fit for the N7 is good but not perfect (It seems the N7 slides around a little within the case).
It looks like Pelican also makes the Pelican Pick N Pluck system, which is basically a set of customizable foam pieces that are made to fit in specific Pelican case models. You can find this on their website or on Amazon.

I have this case and with the tpu case i have on my N7, the movement isn't bad. I would recommend the pelican case in a heartbeat.

In my search for a tough case for the N7, I decided to get a Pelican 1055CC. Only thing is, I am not sure how to find this in Europe. I don't want to order it from the US, as it is already pretty expensive. Do you have any ideas if there are any resellers, or should I contact pelican directly?

Not cheap - http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb...d-keywords=Peli+1055CC&rh=i:aps,k:Peli+1055CC

No, but the price is kinda ok. It's very close to the quote I got straight from Peli, however the reseller they sent me to, only deals with companies.
This one from Amazon isn't ok either. For some reason they won't let me use a shipping address outside of UK.
I will keep searching.
EDIT: Found an online Peli reseller in germany. Only 55 euro with transport included. Placed the order, should have it in 3 - 4 days.

Pelican cases will never be cheap, but you get what you pay for. I have them for my rifles and they are great. One of the ones I had fell out of a plane and broke. They sent me a new one for free.

:victory:
Peli case arrived this morning. It looks great. Good build quality, not too bulky but very sturdy. Didn't get a chance to put the Nexus in yet as I am at work but from what I read around, there might be some space left in the case. If this is true and it will have some play, seems that I can insert some sort of foam sheet under the case lining. It is glued in, but looks like it can be lifted in some parts.
If anyone is curious about this, or you need pictures, close-ups, any extra details, let me know.

Neoprene Android pouch

Has anyone bought one off eBay? Quality? Thanks
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I bought one of these
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/New-OEM-Andr...Accessories&hash=item3f0d7619d7#ht_2351wt_905
Fit my Nexus perfectly. Its larger then the Nexus One case and fits better.
I tried one of the pouch posted above and those were bit difficult to take it out and put it back on. I cut out the both corners to give some breathing room when taking it out, but it didn't work out for me, I threw it away.
I bought Google (HTC) G1 pouch and it fits better. It's little bit bigger than the case above so it's easier to take it out and put it back. It is also thicker (but small enough to put it in your jean pocket easily), so it provides better overall protection. It seems to use better material than the case posted above. I bought this case in March and I still use them. Great pouch.

was it from the same seller? I never had any issues getting it out. It fit really well. I was surprised.
Try higher quality pouches on etsy. they're often unique, and better quality materials, and the seller can customize to your needs.
I just ordered one of the pouches yesterday. I figure for 4 dollars and free shipping, even if it sucks, it still wasn't a big waste.
Pretty much thought the same thing

This one is about as slim as you can get.
-Brett.
I got the Raider case from Amazon for $4 (US). Hard plastic. The front and back snap together around the phone. I had a different case (AFG?), but it covered the power button and volume rocker, making them hard to operate. The Raider case has openings for the buttons.
Ordered the Incipio Feather last night, should arrive later this week. Comes with a screen protector too, which is a nice little plus. It's a few $ cheaper on Amazon vs myincipio.com site.

and I still can't find a place that ships over to Brazil...
but hey, still about the ROCK case, if you want some more vivid colors, you can look for Yetaa website, then go to MobileMate section and look for it. they have some really nice colors for this case.
don't know if that store is trustworthy, tho
I ordered a Rock case the day I got my phone, but also ended up ordering a similar case from Best Buy (Canada, online only, the US store seems to not stock it) since I didn't want to carry the phone naked for three weeks while I waited for the Rock to arrive from China.
They're virtually exactly the same, but I prefer the Affinity case to the Rock case (it was also about five bucks cheaper) as it offers a bit more coverage at the top and bottom of the phone. The Affinity case actually dips in to cover the area between the headphone jack and power button. I'll see if I can't take a picture to compare the two sometime. I'd definitely recommend the Best Buy case to any users in Canada.
I've seen that one at BB. I ended up getting a commuter case, and it's great but sometimes it's annoying that it's such a dust magnet. I have to take it out and wash the case weekly. I bought a smoke TPU case off amazon but I don't really like it, so I might grab that one from BB as a backup.
Yeah, it turns out I was misinformed about it not being available in-store. I just checked and they have them at the two nearest Best Buys to me.
You can't really go wrong for $10, especially without having to wait for it in the mail.
How weird would it look like if i put a black case on my white vivid? Just wondering. Most cases I find are black...
My Incipio Feather case arrived from Amazon today, sells for $16.50 there. It's what I expected... like all of the other feather/barely there type cases. Fits well, with a nice smooth rubberized finish. Also came with a free glossy screeen protector, which is a nice bonus. These types of cases don't offer a ton of protection, but fine for around the house/office, to avoid scuffs and scratches. For what it is, I'm happy with it.

Rotating cases ONLY

Did some searching on this board, but really didn't see much focus on those of us looking for rotating cases, so here it is:
Does ANYONE have any leads on well-designed rotating cases for the N7? I'm looking at the following three cases, all of which have yet to become available for purchase, but I'm hoping someone else found something that's available now:
360 Degree Rotating Folio PU Leather Case For Google Nexus 7 - Brown (any opinions on CaseBuy.com as a retailer would be appreciated
MoKo(TM) Folding Cover Case for Google Nexus 7 Android Tablet, Purple (With Automatic Sleep/Wake Function, Flip Stand, Elastic Hand Strap, Stylus Loop, and MicroSD Slot)
MoKo(TM) Folio Cover Case for Google Nexus 7 Android Tablet(With Automatic Sleep/Wake Function) (Looked like a rotating case, but not sure)
I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on the CaseBuy one, but I've never ordered with them, and I don't know if they're shady. Thoughts?
Why are the second two $99?

I saw those too, and I"m also tempted on buying the i-BLASON one as well. Still, I'm trying to see if there's any case that cuts down on the bulk; don't want to make the N7 too unsexy
Have to say that so far I haven't seen a single case that looks worth buying (of maybe 2 or 3 dozen I've seen online). I'm hoping that at least a couple of the manufacturers who turn out the best designed and engineered iPad cases decide to address the Nexus 7 market, given its successful launch (in numbers, not execution) and prospects. So far the pickings are pretty uninspired, if not dismal.

Have to agree, these case look to be about 1 inch thick sandwich with the nexus in the middle. I did like the MoKo(TM) Folding Cover Case (2nd one on first post) but only if its at a more reasonable price range.

No magnet throws me off that case but otherwise looks great. I hope they make a revision with auto-wake.
My main need for a case is to stand it in portrait for when I'm in bed reading. Has anyone bought a case and can tell me that it's good for that. I bought one of those cheap rotating cases from an unknown brand and it's good in landscape but in portrait the stand part is to weak and as soon as i touch it it collapses so I'm wary of trying another

I got this case a week ago. I meant to post but didn't get a chance. No magnet in it but a slim magnet can be slipped inside the first groove (the first groove for landscape viewing). I didn't have many magnets available..i tried some slim ones off the refrigerator but they weren't powerful enough. I took out the magnet from a old 6gb 2.5inch laptop drive and its works. The magnet in the hard drive is very slim and I still need to try and cut down the surronding metal plate to make it as small as possible.
This is the one that I ordered and should be here on Monday:

I'm looking for one that will work well in portrait for reading. I'd like to know how you like it when you get it especially in the portrait position. I bought one that looked kinda the same but was some cheap no name brand and in the portrait mode the stand part is too weak to hold it up and collapses.

lol I ordered that one also. BTW my RooCase one arrived and I do really like it. The bezel being covered is kinda weird though so I thought I might like the above one better. It also appears to be more slim than the RooCase. The RooCase does work well in Portrait mode and it's a velcro to felt kinda link so you can adjust it however you like. Have yet to put serious use in it but it seems great for the most part.

Best Leather Case

For those of you who like the look of a good leather case, I recommend Noreve. I just purchased their Tradition Case and it is fantastic. It's a bit pricey at around 70 dollars shipped, but it's money well spent. This is my first post on XDA so I can't include the link, but a simple Google search for "Noreve" works just as well. Hope this helps...

I want to thank you for posting this. I remember looking at this website a long time ago when I was looking at buying a case for my BB Storm (can anyone say buyer's remorse?) I eventually bought an even pricier case from a site called Vaja cases. It turned out to be really well made and I liked it a lot even though I hated the phone, but I could never remember the name of this site until now. I have a question about the case though: does it have sleep/wake function?
Question not directed at me, but yes it does.
That's awesome that it's a real leather case, and looks very close to my favorite N7 case, the Noko horizontal (not 360 etc). Expensive, but it's leather, so that's expected.
Just my $.02 here, but I actually would sorely miss the hand strap the Moko case has in it. I use it literally all the time. If I'm walking around with the N7, and sometimes even when sitting down, my fingers are inside the hand strap. It's more secure and I don't have to "hold" it that way. And if I'm laying down (bed, hammock, etc) I also flip the thin elastic strap around and keep the case in the open position + the hand strap, works out great.
So looks like a great case, wish it had the hand and elastic strap the Moko had!
Ordered one through them via Amazon.
EDIT: Cancelled for now. May be getting a different case later in the week...the Seidio Active one.
Yes. The sleep/wake works like a charm.

what is material ?genuine leather?
Yes, and they are all hand stitched. Which is why they're so expensive. They give you 5 different leather finishes to choose from.

Are cases really necessary for the Note 2? Share your experience

Hi all
I just ordered a Note 2 and, by all the comments on cases around here, I wonder if I should hurry to also get a case.
But the point is: is it really necessary?
- A case makes this big phone even bulkier.
- A case can compromise ports access, external audio quality and the gps/nfc/... receptions
- A good case can cost a lot of money
- I won't find a case around the corner (at least, here in Brazil). I must buy it online, maybe pay for shipping and wait for like a month for it to come to me.
Hey, I don't want to be critical to the ones who feel important to use a case. Just want to start some discussion here
My point of view:
I'm retiring an old Motorola Defy. It has never used any kind of case or screen protector and its condition is quite good. It is always in my pocket (a lot of times sharing the space with a bunch of keys) and it has fallen to the ground some times, from like the pocket height for instance.
I know the Note 2 is a different phone, so thats the point of the question. I've never had another Samsung phone, so I may not have the right idea about the durability of it.
So, I'm looking forward to your thoughts and experiences on using (or not using) protective cases for the Note 2.
I would prefer not to have one, but I would mostly get one if this really happens that Samsung did a fragile phone and it is important to get external protection.
100% need a case. I got my note 2 weeks ago and bought a genuine Samsung case which is skim anyway. Protects the screen and back from scratches. Plus no case makes it slippery and one drop will mean destroyed phone. Good luck mate!

Hi Brayden87, thanks for the reply.
I've seen the samsung case on the Note 1. It really is slim.
It actually is so slim I wonder it really does protect the phone. Would you say it can make the difference upon a drop?
This is one I would like to get... probably easier to find too.
For the love of god get a case. I have a cover for that it a back plate with a leather flap that goes over the screen, and a screen protector. My wife has a full case for hers.

Hi plugsmustard.
Very interesting experience. It seems that this phone is really more fragile than my Defy. I don't doubt that, it is so much larger and thinner, it looks like it may brake easily. Its just that Samsung should be salling a phone that is fairly resistant to the day-to-day misshapenings...
But these otterbox are very expensive and would have to find a retailer that ships to Brazil. Can I trust Ebay sellers?
Isn't it too bulky?
What are the least requirements for a good protective case?
Note 2 size is big so I do not want case for it. Only a carbon back cover for better handling and protect camera. When bezel is scratched, I replace it for 5$. Perfect way for me .

You can purchase knock-off Otterbox cases from eBay, as well as others such as the Griffin Survivor case (fake, but still provides great protection) Casemate Tough and the Urban Armor Gear Note 2 case, etc.
Above-mentioned cases have been thoroughly reviewed by the one and only Vectron, and are viewable here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192333
I got the body glove tpu... slim and sexy. Dropped my phone about 4ft high and didn't get any damage. Of course could be just luck. Phone is big and slick without a case. I would get a slim tpu type of case if you are worried about bulk. It gives a little more protection than naked.

For the love of all that is good and holy, get a case. And you don't need to go crazy buying an expensive one or waiting forever for a HK distributor. I own a bunch of cases because I love to swap 'em out, but my go-to case (and one of the least expensive cases I've bought is the Duzign Sentinel from from eBay that I got for $7.00 from a seller named senyx. The auctions are non-stop and I often see them ending at the opening bid of $7.00, like when I got mine. Shipping is free and the seller is in CA, so you get it quickly:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Duzign-Sent...t=US_Cell_Phone_PDA_Cases&hash=item20d25bad89
It's been discussed on other threads, but this one has a cool H.R. Giger alien look to it, offers awesome protection, and it has, in my opinion, the best TPU inner layer of any case (it's got a nice thick lip to protect the screen of your Note 2 in case of an unlucky fall). Heck the TPU is a great case by itself, and the outer shell comes with a kickstand for horizontal viewing. the Sentinel is identical to the Cruzer Lite Spi-Force case which sells for about $20. Just don't get the black/white as the white does get dirty pretty quickly. Mine is black on black and besides my UAG and bamboo cases, it easily gets the most compliments.
That is my .02 . . . hope it helps.
Not that it's particularly delicate, but it is particularly expensive.
If you don't buy a case, I expect the first bit of damage to trigger a new thread "Scratched by $600 phone! Damn!"
Hi everybody.
Thanks for all the opinions. These Duzign Sentinel do seem quite robust and not that bulky. The looks are quite odd (comparing to the original sober looks of the phone) but are not that bad...
That is the kind of price I would pay without feeling that I am paying a lot to have a bulkier phone.
I wont bother much if the bezel gets scratched. My main concern is the screen integrity.
I do have one year warranty (which I do not know if covers external damage :/) and, if something happen, I could always go DIY to try to fix it. The biggest problem would be the phone become useless for weeks :/
I do agree that it is important to feel safer with such expensive phone.
At the other hand, is hard to believe that Samsung, which is leading against Apple in such quality fight, still delivers such a fragile gadget and even dont provide a reasonable protection option as an accessory. That is very awkward.
Case-mate Tough seems very nice and is found at US$ 10.99 on Amazon. Too bad it doesn't ship to Brazil.

Haha . . so true. I know it's dorky, but I remember my grandmother always telling me: "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Well, in this case, a $10 case is worth a $100 deductible.

Actually cheaper through Case-Mate because shipping is free if you have Amazon Prime. This other seller requires a $3.99 surcharge. Still, $14.64 is a good deal. Returns or problems would probably be handled much better through original retailer, as well.

Good question. I had the flip case but it sucks and I dropped my phone twice and got two nice dents. I ordered a simple case for like 5 bucks just so the back doesn't feel slippery and what not. I do not use a screen protector, it'll be fine.
I bought the seidio active case and a glass screen protector before I even bought the note ii. This is a very expensive phone, I wouldn't use it and not buy some kind of protection. Seidio has an updated case call surface case but it didn't work with the glass screen protector cause the inside hard case would rub against the screen protector and push it up.The active case work great it's very slim and has a holster. Well long story short, I dropped my phone many times and nothing has broke or cracked. My job is physically demanding and its easy to bump or drop. Alot of my coworkers has cracked screens or has broken there phone.

Hi Brayden87, thanks for the reply.
I've seen the samsung case on the Note 1. It really is slim.
It actually is so slim I wonder it really does protect the phone. Would you say it can make the difference upon a drop?
This is one I would like to get... probably easier to find too.

I think you're confused with another case, I have the protective cover+ and it's probably 2-3mm thick. Adds barely any thickness to the note 2 and looks awesome. Cost me $30. I didn't want a big case and this one is perfect for me. Covers everything you want covered.

do you have any link or photos of yours?
Thanks!
I like to reference this article when anyone asks me this question:

It's a nice real world example.

Very interesting indeed. And very nice looking bumper btw. This metallic bumper wouldn`t interfere on the device antennas?
I will consider these as well... I wonder how they compare to full body cases such as Duzign Sentinel, Speck Candyshell or Case-mate Tough.
I didn't feel like I needed a case at all. Till I dropped it. Twice. The rear cover went flying and so did the battery. Phone held up flawlessly, but i didn't like the flying parts. So I bought a cute Incipio case from androidcentral.com
