Apps can't find external SD in CM10 #3 - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys,
I installed CM10 #3 over the weekend, looks awesome and promising. But I have a problem with external SD card.
Basically internal memory is mounted at /storage/sdcard0, and external SD card at /storage/sdcard1. Or internal at /mnt/sdcard, external at /mnt/extSdCard.
But all my apps (apart from Solid Explorer which has root access) have problem accessing external SD card, as if it doesn't exist. This is including built-in Camera, Gallery, MP3 players etc.
Any idea for a workaround? Is there anything like a symbolic link that I can create?
Thanks
Regards,
Cary

U could use ics binder from market may be it helps

Do you mean /mnt/emmc?
That folder doesn't exist in my CM10 #3 install.

:good: Awesome tool! It helped me bind/rebind the external SD card to /mnt/sdcard/external_sd.
Now Google Play can pick up my songs in external SD card. Camera360 can save pictures to external SD card. The Gallery app still has trouble - it couldn't load my DCIM folder on SD card but I guess it's individual issue.
PS. Only one small thing to watch out - make sure your existing "external_sd" folder is empty, otherwise the app doesn't work.

[Q] Moving Apps form Galaxy to internal SD is possible?

Hi I have upgraded my Galaxy S to Froyo with "official" firmware, everything is running ok, I also installed the OneClick LagFix (this change my quadrant from 892 to 1915) but now I only have 400Mb free in the phone memory, I would like to move some apps to the SD but I get the following error "Error moving app. There is not enough memory" (Possible this is not the correct message, i get this message in spanish )
I dont have a external SD, but I have 14Gb free in the internal SD, is not possible move apps to this memory?
Thx in advance
install Froyo, then you can run apps from External SD

yes, but all the apps needs to be re-installed and select External SD during install
or you can force them to External and hope it works with those 3rd party programs that moves apps to External SD
Thx AllGamers, I would like to install in the internal SD partition that have 14Gb free, because I donĀ“t have external SD
Thx in advance
there are tons of 3rd party apps to choose from that helps you manage where you want your apps to go, check these out:

This Apps runs OK only if you have a External SD, but I'd like to move to internal SD in Galaxy S

I've a question, is possible to install the apps into the external microSD card?
I know that Froyo permit to do it but only into the internale SD card and i want to use the external one (i've bought a 32Gb for it!!)

Q. I can move an app to SD w/o problem but the data file that is consuming a large portion of my internal memo stays on internal SD. Is there a way to move the app and it's data to the SD?

I too have a 32Gb card installed.
You can move the apps and there are a number of 3rd party apps that will do this for you quickly or you can do it from settings in managing the applications. I found that this was not the space saving solution that I thought it would be.
It is the data that needs to be moved, e.g., DoggCatcher is my news reader and it had about 3Gb worth of data. Moving the app didn't save any space but using the setting in the program to move the data did the trick. Play around with moving a couple of apps and see what you get and check to see if the app will allow you to move the data to a new location.
Some apps simply stock pile a lot of data. My eBook program, Audible which I can't do without is another one - over 1.5Gb. I'll contact Audible about this one.
some times when you check on sites like AppsBrain
it will tell you if the App is App2SD compatible
meaning it can be isntall to SD also data store on SD
as mpierce said, it's pretty useless to force a program to SD, meanwhile the heavy stuff remains in the phone internals

Can everyone please read before replying?? He wants to move his apps to the INTERNAL SD (so do I) and NOT the external SD. This is not possible as far as I'm concerned. Got the same error as luishchorradas.

Hi
actually u cannot move ur apps to the internal sd card as internal sd card (16 gb) is only meant for media (videos, songs etc.) and if u want more 16gb for ur apps u will hv to put an external sd card (galaxy s supports 16gb) and ya if u move to sd it will move to external sd card.
Thnx

Sorry to resurrect an old thread. But I don't believe "move to SD" moves anything to the external SD card. The apps move to the internal SD card. Yes unmounting the SD card disables apps, but if you browse through the internal card, you'll still see them sitting there.
Me to, same problem, no google search helps :-(

sorry for necro'ing but it does indeed move it to the external SD, i've tried moving a couple apps with my Galaxy S to the, as it says, "move to USB memory" but as i check the free memory, it used the external SD memory, not the internal.

[Q] Problem with EXTERNAL SD card

I noticed 3 problems with my external SD card:
1. When I copy from PC to my Note some files, sometimes I can't see the files anymore when using the Note after I unplug it from the PC
2. Some movies doesn't play on the external SD card, but the same videos do play on the internal SD card.
3. When I want to flash a ROM, which I copied it from the PC to the external SD card, it aborts and saying the file is bad. BUT, I can flash the SAME ROM from the internal SD card.
Even after formatting the external SD card via the Note, I still have those problems. Even a movie via KIES doesn't work on my external SD card.
Is my external SD card defect? Or am I doing something wrong?

Yes, your external sd card might be defective. Try another one to find out.

Hi, I have copied mkv-files since then, but after one or more files copied to the external SD-card, only the first (sometimes two in cases of coping three or more files) is able to play. The rest are unable to play with different video players.
I tested to copy two of the same movie, but always one wasn't able to play.
Hypothesis: my external SD card is defect. Or am I missing something?

SD Location Incorrect?

I've noticed that the sd location is wrong. On many apps it it showing sd0, but that stuff is being saved to the internal memory on the phone.
The sd card slot is ext_mem in the xperia z, how do we fix this issue?
Thanks.
No one knows why?
It's not a bug,Google changed the location to sd0 since jelly bean,so the app you are using need to be updated.

sd0 / sdcard is the internal memory - 16GB
ext_card & sd1 / sdcard1 is the memory card you inserted , I assumed they're symlinked.
Damn it, no wonder most of the apps are accessing the sd0 lcoation and not the ext_mem...
There's no way to config the application to fix that either. Strange as hell... would rooting the phone be of any help?
How do I backup the stuff that is being saved on sd0 then?

I think you can use Link2SD to create a symlink to your external SD card. It will appear that your internal card is as big as your external card and all the stuff in the directory thats on the internal card will actually be on the external one.
Sweet! I'll give it a try. I bought a 64gb SD card for a reason!
Looks like someone already made some apps for what I was looking for.

[Q] Apps 2 sd in stock v20a

Apps 2 sd in stock v20a
How can we do this? Am I right in thinking that I can use rommanager to create a partition on the internal sd card? If that is correct then is it not possible to create a partition on external sd to move apps to? Otherwise it would seem pointless because the phone install apps to the internal sd anyhow, So creating a partition to it would be pointless no?
Anyone can shed any light on this fr me as I am just guessing so far?
Anyone know if its possible to swap internal sd and external sd like we can in Cm to get more room?
Thanks if you can help,
Use link2sd and external sd partition method
If you want to move games data to external sd use Foldermount
Both requires root
Search in google you will get more info

That's not what I mean. Link 2 sd just moves game data. I was wanting to swap mounts for internal to external so all apps install to the external 32gb sd card. Or a partition to do it. I use the above programs but I also need more space for installing the apk's.#
In CM you can swap intenal and external in build prop to get the phone to use the larger external card as internal app storage. This does not work in JB if you edit the build prop.
I need a similar way for JB as CM roms are no good for me because of the hdmi output problem (rotation bug).
Has anyone had luck swapping the mounts in JB?

But 16gb is more enough for installing apk
You can move your games data to external sd to save more space
Example: you can install the ironman3 apk in internal sd it's takes about 35mb and move the 780 mb obb data to external sd with foldermount

[Q] [P100] [CDMA] [SGT7] Create internal sdcard and external sdcard?

Hello,
I would like the SGT7 to work like a modern day tablet:
1. Internal memory with emulated sdcard (for applications)
2. External memory w/removable sdcard (for media such as music)
I want the OS to create /Android /Pictures /Movie /Music etc. on the internal sdcard memory.
I want the external sdcard to be storage only for music and/or video files.
Can the SGT7 be configured this way? If so, is there a ROM or script for the P100 that can already perform this configuration?
Would I need a new .pit file?
I'm already rooted, flashed recovery, have flashed a few CM9 and CM10 roms already to this device and none have configured the tablet as I described. 2GB isn't much internal memory but I don't have that many apps.
Thank you!
Isn't point 1) and 2) the default behaviour of cm9 and cm10?

Thank you for the response. That is what I would have thought but after trying several roms the directories Android, Movies, etc. were created on the external microsd card. The installed app data is on the external microsd as well.
Not much idea on CDMA tab.
But I guess you try to take out external SD, then do wipe data or even reflash cm from internal SD card after that.
Make sure external SD isn't involved.
Then after all boots up OK, insert external SD.

Thank you, I'll give it a try!
UPDATE: there is no internal sd to mount to with the external sd removed.
Despite moving the CM 10.1 zip around the device to various folders via TWRP the zip wouldn't flash
Didn't work. Still trying to have an internal sdcard for apps and external sdcard for music files, movies, etc.
