network lock - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i have a locked i9000 to the uk network 3.
usually locked phones when you put in a sim card of a different network will immediately ask for a network code or something, but on putting my o2 sim card in the i9000 (that is locked to 3) i can fully access the phone i just get the "no signal" icon.
is this normal?
or i'm worried the phone is failing to pick up there is even a sim card in the slot? :/

There's a tool for unlocking I9000: http://www.communityhosting.net/sgsunlock/ (found it searching through the XDA forums).
There are a lot of related threads on XDA forums, use search function to identify them.
Good luck!

problem with another sim card

how will I know if my phone is locked to a network?will a message come out after putting in another sim? I have a problem with my tytn II,my current sim card works with my phone but when I put in another sim,it does not recognize the sim. No message whatsoever appears on the screen but then there's no signal appearing on the signal bar as well as the name of the operator.

Sounds to me that you are locked to a single carrier. Just unlock your phone (search the Wiki - start in my sig). Your carrier won't notice this unless you need to send your phone in for warranty repairs - but there are also ways round that.

[Q] Can't unlock phone, phone doesn't ask for Sim network unlock pin

I am trying to unlock my AT&T Samsung Captivate and I have followed the instructions in the reference thread for unlock/unfreeze for all SGS models. I tried both methods with SGS Unlock and ADB, as they both are supposed to do the same thing and as a result I got the same unlock and unfreeze pins.
After I got the unlock code I restarted my phone with a Fido Sim card but my phone doesn't ask me for a Sim network unlock pin and it just loads the desktop. My Sim card works in my other phones, so it can't be something wrong with my Sim. I also borrowed my sister's Fido Sim and still my phone does not ask for the unlock pin on start up and displays the there is no sim card in phone screen.
I'm hoping its not something wrong with the phone's Sim slot.
Does the Fido sim work in your phone?
It is possible that Fido is an authorized sim in addition to the AT&T sim.
Hello,
I have the same problem with my mobile. It is a toshiba TG01. Did you solve you problem?

Sim lock?

Hi guys,
Im trying to use a different sim in my orange (uk) phone. But the different sim is not recognised and no codes are asked for?
Entering *#7465625# I find that all of my locks are off, so does this mean im sim locked?
Ive been googling for ages but im still not 100% sure as most threads for removing sim lock state make sure network lock is on.
Sorry if this is a dumb thread but any help would be appreciated.

Dont apply new firmware just for a non working sim .
What network you on and did you enter the details of that network manually .
network details are on the networks web site .
jje
My home network is orange UK and the network settings were set up automatically.
When I put the New sim in (cable and wireless) I get an icon near the battery showing no sim inserted but all locks are off?
Duff sim card ??? first question .
jje
I tried it on a friends phone and it seemed to recognise it ok (we didnt try to phone out or txt tho).
Ive had trouble connecting to gmail and the market, so have done a factory reset and will try the sim card again tonight and post results.
thanks
Fos
It may be an old type sim you are using that is not recognised by the phone. Can you get a new one? I must admit I have not heard of Cable and Wireless having a UK network. Live n learn eh.
Sorry for the delay in posting.
Tehpriest im not currently in the Uk at the moment, so I bought the C & W as it gives better rates than roaming with orange
The new sim card works fine in a friends HTC but still is not recognised by my galaxys.
Looking closely at the sim, the gold contact is physically larger than the orange sim (sim card size is still the same tho), could this be the reason?
seems strange as my friends original sim is the the same dimensions as my orange yet he can use the C & W.
Any ideas anyone?

[Q] Help Unlocking rooted Exhibit with custom ROM

I'm trying to unlock the Exhibit 4G this week for use on a trip abroad (and yes, it is legal to do so since this was a prepaid phone paid in full in 2012 so T-Mobile did email me the unlock code - all that is good). What I don't understand is why it is not prompting for the Unlock code at boot. T-Mobile says I must have another company's SIM card in the phone to unlock the Phone. So, I bought a Simple Mobile SIM and placed it in the phone but it just boots up to the ROM as normal without asking for the unlock code. I am using the Linaro 4.2 rom (which is amazing btw!) but I also tried with Peach Sunrise 3.0 and Cyanogen 10 - nothing but a normal boot with no phone capabilities. So I have these questions: Do I actually need to pay for SimpleMobile service first to get the phone to recognize the SIM as different and ask to unlock? (seems unlikely) - Is Simple Mobile just not a good SIM to use for unlocking this phone... Or do I have to go back to stock ROM and unroot to unlock this? Of course if there are any other apps or shortcuts that will let me get straight to the unlock code prompt I'm all for it. Any help is greatly appreciated - not finding a lot of answers out there on the net and if it is on this forum I apologize for not finding it and would appreciate a link to it - Thx!
You probably need a different sim card. As I understand it, T-Mobile phones don't need to be unlocked to work on Simple Mobile.

Thx - it figures I would choose that one to buy!
Meekrawb is right, simple mobile uses the T-Mobile network.

To get your IMEI go to your cell phone and enter *#06# This will give you a string of numbers you will need to unlock your cell phone. Enter *#06# as if you are going to make a call. Then you will be given the string of numbers you will need.

After you obtain your IMEI and copy it on a piece of paper, power your cell phone off. Take the back off if you have a removable back. Take the SIM card out. Put a BLANK SIM card in its place. Power the cell phone on. A screen should come up asking for your IMEI number to be entered. It should look like a rectangular box. Enter you IMEI. There should be a small box under the rectanglar box that you press. The phone should then eventally unlock itself. You can test it by putting a different SIM card in your cell phone.

Sony SOG01 Simlock Or...(please read the thread)

Hi all. I hope someone can help me with my phone.
I have this phone and I have problems with it. The phone was bought from another person, not in a store.
It does not connect to the mobile network and cannot connect to the mobile internet.
It is fully operational, all functions work (except for the sim card), the phone connects to wifi and connects to the Internet. When connected to a computer, it is also completely determined.
You ask, "So what's the problem, take it to repair, they will replace the SIM card module and everything will be fine"
The problem is this. The SIM card is fully defined in the phone. When installing a sim card, a reboot is triggered, the operator is determined in the settings menu (I am from Russia, therefore my operator TELE2, the sim card was bought specifically in order to exclude the old generation of sim cards and also a possible simlock to my other operator), but when you click on the sim card menu, calls and SMS the buttons are grayed out with the caption "temporarily unavailable" (if necessary for understanding, I will change the language of the phone and provide all screenshots of the system) and they cannot be clicked.
Also, in the engineering menu, in the simlock button, opposite the Network subset inscription, there is the number 5 and it is marked with the letter X. This means, as far as I know, that there is a lock on a specific operator. But after a hard reset, the phone does not ask for any codes to enter.
This is my question, how can this be fixed?
Will flashing the phone to global rom help?
I gave the phone to a service center (not a Sony branded center, we don’t have one in our city), they told me that software setup was needed, but there was only a chance to restore the phone.
Maybe I need root access and find some file in my phone?
Please help me.
P.S. I don't have the best English, so sometimes I can't understand you, please don't get mad at me)
P.S.S. I created this topic in the questions section. I'm sorry if I had to go to the firmware section
