Unlocking Bootloader

With the Motorola announcement and site that was up to help generate unlock keys, who all has tried to unlock their bootloader?
What was your experience like after doing so?
Site: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-b
WARNING: Unlocking your bootloader does void the warranty you have with Motorola.
Based on this thread in the General section, it doesn't look like we're on the list at this point. As for whether we ever will be, your guess is as good as mine.
My guess is that Motorola is releasing a bootloader unlock tomorrow and is diligently working on a Jelly Bean release for us.
For what it's worth, I'm running the 6.7.230 ICS leak and the bootloader that came with it does not support the fastboot oem get_unlock_data function. It returns an error. Maybe an unlockable version will be packaged with the official ICS OTA leak.
Since Moto has pretty much confirmed that the Bionic will never be unlocked (via twitter) I posted this via my Twitter (yes typo included).
@motorola @verizon I'm done with Motorola. Your latest announcement sucks & so do you #unlockmoto. Bionic I'd NOT old.

Motorola won't unlock my relocked bootloader :(

So I bought a Moto X through swappa in December. Up until now, I've been pretty happy with it stock, but now I'm looking to try some different ROMs. The problem is, the original owner previously unlocked and relocked the bootloader. Now when I try to unlock it, I'm being told I'm not eligible, because my account does not match the account my phone was originally activated on. Huh??? Does anyone have any idea what I can do at this point? Surely others have unlocked previously owned X's, right?
Email the original owner and ask for the unlock key.
Go into fastboot
fastboot OEM unlock
since the code has previously been put in, there should be no need for a code again

I guess I'll try doing that through swappa.

Tried that. Still locked though.
Email MotoX support. They are friendly and helpful usually. Some Chinese guy has unlock codes, that might help too
Moto X developer edition

[Q] Help, Just Bought a Moto X and I'm very confused with rooting/bootloader

I just bought a Moto X XT1058 and it came with Android 4.4.2 installed.
I want to install this kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/orig-development/kernel-001-kk44-gsm3-4-hybrid-oc-t2645356
and be able to use it's overclock function...
Can someone say to me what I need to do to be able to do that ? (Everything with this phone is a little bit confusing like rooting, bootloader and stuff)
Also, I need to know if what everyone refer to as OTAs are the software updates that my own device suggest and if I still can update my phone like that with that kernel.
Since you already have 4.4.2 on your phone, I'll discuss your options with 4.4.2. The past exploits used to root and disable write protection have been patched in 4.4.2, so you can't use processes like SlapMyMoto/MotoWpNoMo.
You mention wanting to run a custom kernel, I believe that requires an unlocked bootloader.
For the Developer Editions Moto X, and some carrier editions (Like T-Mobile, Sprint and others), Motorola freely gives away the BootLoader Unlock codes when requested On Motorola's Web Site. In the case of the Non-Developer Editions, it voids their warranty to request the code.
If you are unable to get an unlock code from there, you're only other option was the "Chinese Website/Middleman" option which is down/not working again.
So check Moto's site first, if you can get the bootloader unlock code for your phone, you're good to go, and you can root and disable write protection. NOTE: IF your carrier branded XT1058 is eligible for the unlock code from Moto, it sometimes has taken a few days after you receive your phone before the unlock code is available.
If you can't get your bootloader unlock code from Moto's web site, you are out of luck for now.

I have not heard of that.
Besides the physical appearance, when it comes to the difference between the "Developer Edition" and Retail or Moto Maker edition, the only difference is unlocking the bootloader on the Dev Edition doesn't void the warranty, but on the "non-Dev" it does void the warranty.
For the most part, Motorola gives the bootloader unlock code away for free on their web site, along with the instructions to unlock. The exception being in the case of a few carriers like ATT, Verizon and Republic Wireless, where for what appears to be carrier requirements, they do NOT give out the code.
If you have ATT, VZW or Republic Wireless, and have an X built in 2014, see the China Middle Man is back thread in the general section about getting a bootloader unlock code from the only way possible at this time. But yes, it does void the warranty

I have seen NOTHING on using JTAG to unlock the bootloader on the Moto X.
Since its release, the only way to UNLOCK the Bootloader on the X has been to get the unlock code.
How reliable is the middle man? Just read that thread. If the build date on your phone is 2014, you will likely be able to get a code. The middle man doesn't have "real time access" to the database containing the unlock codes, so if your phone was built a week ago, you might have to wait. As long as you meet those conditions, you'll likely get your code. In cases where the middle man didn't have the code, he's refunded the money.

You might, but with an unlocked bootlaoder you can easily re-root at any time.

Unlock samsung g900a verison dev bootloader

So on the Verizon G900V thread there is a new method using the unlocked DEV bootloader provided by Verizon in their new DEV OS. People on the Verizon forums have found a way to put the unlocked DEV bootloader onto a Samsung galaxy s5. Now I wouldn't be making this post other than the fact that I saw this post on another thread saying that if Verizon found a way to unlock their bootloader maybe we can too. That's all. If you have any ideas please take a look and see if It might work.
