Cannot enter download mode, instant recovery mode - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm using TWRP on my captivate as a recovery, and while i was flashing my rom, I wiped everything, and didn't make a nandroid
Now my phone goes straight to TWRP and I can't boot to download mode to restore with Odin.. Any help would be appreciated

Mount USB in recovery and load a new package to flash. You cannot flash a stock image from recovery.

If you want recovery mode, do this:
1. Pull your battery
2. Put the battery in
3. Hold both the volume up and down buttons
4. Insert the USB
5. You are now in DL mode!

Thanks for the reply!
Unfortunately, my TWRP has problems with mounting, and my phone does not join in recovery mode... The only package I have in my internal SD is CM7 which I was trying to flash after using Team Nyx's ICS, but the problem is, when flashing, TWRP gets an error and my package will not flash (it's a mounting error with emmc). Also, I've tried about 4 different key combinations and can't get my phone into download mode, it just boots straight into recovery.

I guess there is no "reboot download" option under advanced like in cwm recovery. And i'm not sure if you could use ADB to reboot to download mode because of the ics.
Last resort, check my sig below if u r on a pc for links on how to make a Jig or where to buy one.

I'm a complete android noob, so I'm not sure how to use ADB on my pc to get my phone into download mode, and also, I no longer have an OS running on my phone, and I don't think you can reach ADB shell unless you have your phone in USB Debugging mode.

[Q] How to get into download/recovery mode with Clockworkmod

I was trying to get my phone back to stock using the Odin one-clicks in this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300843
I have Clockwork mod installed on my phone and it's been driving me crazy trying to figure out how to get into the download mode required for the one-click.
How is this supposed to work?! Every time I use the key combo (power/volume buttons), I just get the CWM screen ... what am I missing here?
Turn off phone, remove sim & sd card. Open odin, press & hold volume up & down, plug in usb cable. Usb cable should be plugged in to a rear usb port of pc.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using xda premium
Yeah, when I do that, I get the CWM screen, like with options for update.zip and stuff. Not the download mode icon.

are you on a Froyo, Eclair, or Gingerbread rom? Or stock?
Use adb. That always works

Entering recovery mode

Long story short, i need to get to the Recovery Mode without using the hardware buttons.
My home button broke, i was trying to flash stock rom from pc odin (to sent it to warranty), and now i cannot setup my phone (i'am stuck at the welcome screen, some processes FC), maybe because i did not wipe data.
So, can i enter the recovery mode without the home button? Via abd commands?
I can only enter download mode as i do not need the home button.
Or, is there some way to wipe data / factory reset via download mode?
Flash simply wipe rom with pc odin.
But how can get.download mode without home button ?with jig?

I can't seem to find that.
No, pull the baterry, insert it, then connect my phone (while turned off) to the pc + volume down. Doesn't work with volume up tho
Find on post #3 of first link on my.signature, you can find some wipe ROM there.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
That's odd, because that's the stock ROM i flashed ( N7000OXXLB3 ) .. But i think it did not wipe.
I will try to flash it again.
EDIT: Same thing, it seems to only format cache?
This is driving me nuts , am i screwed?
No, wipe.version.should wipe.data too.
Just confirm that rom is.wipe or not
Extract 1 step deep (to .tar) if you can see.data.img file is there, then only it is wipe rom.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Thanks, let me try another ROM .
Ok , i'am a little stupid, did not see the (WIPE VERSION) all around the names of the ROMS lol . I will choose one of them
if you just want to go to recovery mode.. minus your hardware button... no need for all the hassles....
look for an app in google play called quick reboot... it needs root though but when you tap on that app.. one of the options there is recovery... you can boot your phone on recovery just by installing and simply using that app and with your phone(rooted)
He has already use pc odin to flash rom, so naturally.won't have root, and juat doing for warranty purpose, so i don't think he.shud flash custom kernel to get root.with pc odin, as in defected device, you can't take chance to raise counter.

The thing is, i don't have access to the system, i'am stuck at the welcome screen.
I'm downloading a wipe ROM, i think it will be solved.
ok doc my bad... I missed some points there..
Forget to select csc?
Edit :Here its my bad, i thought above post was by op

Finally a fully working phone , ready to go to warranty
Thanks!

You can enter recovery with adb...enable usb debugging, plug the phone and open a cmd as admin in the pc. Then type: adb reboot recovery...Done!!
See above, i did not have access to the system
But it is solved now, thanks,

Can you explain more details.
No adb-windows.exe this directory.
And what we do?
Read the build file damn.. we have full access to recovery .. on a powered on phone... forget the recovery ..
# Enable RecoverySystem to emit "factory-reset" reset string
# instead of "recovery" when doing a factory reset. This is
# useful when implementing factory reset without the entire
# recovery framework.
ro.factoryresetwithoutrecovery=true
Sry my harsh words
Recomend wiping phone before flashing anything to avoid errors , fc and bootloops from the settings meny.. there is NO button combination

If you do the adb reboot recovery just once you should be able to boot into recovery by holding Power + Menu buttons.
Are you sure?
Well I'm not a 100% if that's what you mean.

Another method
1. Up the new rom that is rooted by odin. That's mean your phone has rooted
2. You install quick boot app from the market play. Then open quick boot and hit recovery
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
yeah, it also works with rom toolbox (-> rebooter -> reboot in recovery) and rom manager (-> reboot in recovery).

You need ROOT

Bricked a I9000 with Vodoo

Hi all,
Yesterday i bricked my phone. I can't enter the download modus I hope someone can help me.
On the device was installed original Froyo 2.2
To root I installed via Odin I9000XWJVH_-_I9000XENJV4 and did a repartition > so far so good
after that i installed a kernel called CF-Root-XW_XEE_JS7-v1.3-BusyBox-1.15.3 via Odin > after that i only could update with update.zip. That was no option.
So i searched for a another kernel with CLOCKWORKMOD. I choose [KERNEL] Advanced Voodoo v666.1+2 (CLOCKWORKMOD 3/VOODOO SOUND/OC+UV) for Gingerbread 2.3.3. I installed voodoo-kernel-XWJVH-v1.4.tar. > He passed the flash via Odin.
Right now when i start the phone i only see the Samsung image and i can't enter the download or recovery modus. I hear a voice saying " convert data partition" then she said "not enough space on partition"
What can i do? Use a USB Jig?

Urgent - Gear has stuck

I tried to install a firmware viaodin but now the Gear is just in the downloading mode and nothing is changing - how do I get back to the normal mode `?
Odin should have restarted the device after the flash. Did you flash the firmware in the PDA section?
Make sure you have the drivers installed on your computer. Hold down power button on gear to restart

Did you try to do what the post above you suggested? No matter what holding power would get you out of an unsuccessful Odin flash. Or if anything use Adb there's a bunch of guides/ commands to use. Just search adb in xda (all forums)

Thanks for the reply, I tried holding power button which wasn't successful, it just went straight back to downlond mode. Just so we're clear this all happened when I installed twrp from gears sd card, would it make a difference if its from there or from odin to sort this problem out?.. thanks
