Import Droid 4 from US to Germany - Motorola Droid 4

Hi there
i almost killed my Desire Z. I loved it, but there is no acceptable slider with qwertz in Europe. So i am planning to buy a Droid4 from US.
Do i need to buy any "special" phone or just one without contract? Any specials to look at?
Thanks in advance.
p.s. my carrier is O2 Germany
Cheers Claudio

Only buy without contract
For full gsm support use the ics leak, works perfect.

Just bear in mind that it wont have dedicated keys (or key combinations) for umlauts or the € symbol.
I've had a quick look and can't even see how you would enter an umlaut on this phone. To enter an € you can use the Sym key to select it from a menu.

Install/buy swift key from play store. Long press on the vowel on the physical keyboard and it will bring up the Umlauts.

there is also a build of CM9 which includes the modded keyboard layout.

OK... thanks.
The hardwarekeyboard buttons are not the problem. I found some threads because the ESN. Some seller write: WITH CLEAN ESN other not.
But i dont think that those are stolen or used phones if there is nothing about the clean ESN and a new original packed phone?!
whats the fastest way to get it to germany / cheapest selles. Anyone from Germany bought a Droid from US?

I've bought three droid4 from us. The best shipping is with UPS worldwide saver in 2 business days. USPS (DHL) isn't good, the german Zoll is very hard for controlling the packages. UPS works perfect, you must only pay the Zoll directly to UPS Driver.
...Tapatalk

But UPS charges you an extra fee of 10 or 20€. USPS/DHL doesn't do that.
Have a look at borderlix, too. for me the shipping was cheaper with borderlinx than USPS. And it was much faster (they used DHL express and it took only 3 days for shipment)

All my shippings with USPS was send to the Zoll and i must go to Zollamt
UPS shipped in 2 business days. 10euro more is correctly, but borderlinx and shipping cost is the same price.

Finally i have bought 2 used XT894 on Ebay. I luckily found a seller which ships directly to Germany with DHL Express.
now i have to wait for my new phone. Maybe i sell one on Ebay again

DHL Express is pretty fast. It took only 2,5 regular working days for the shipment of my Droid 4 from USA to my door in Australia.
DHL (without express) is pretty fast, too. It took about 4-5 days for shipment of my Droid 3 from USA to German customs office (was sent with USPS Express which uses DHL for international sendings).

i hoped, that i can use the motorola photon 4G LTE, but i think, german must wait again for a hardware qwertz keyboard. my xperia pro is stil fine with bausebrake mod and JB, but i want a new, a fast qwertz phone...
what are yor experience with the droid 4 in germany? usability, any problems with simcard ore gsm? standby and usagetime?

IMHO the sad problem with the motorola photon 4G LTE it has a FIXD build in SIM-CARD, so you cant change it to a other sim :/
i got my droid 4 last week, and i have at now with the Eclipse-Rom 1.3.2 a runing time form 12h or so.
(but i think i realy misd some needed changes for the build.prob)

The ESN doesn't matter to you at all. A non-clean ESN is only a problem, if you're going to connect to a CDMA carrier, of which there are none in Europe. We use IMEI (on GSM) instead.
I've got both a Droid 3 and a Droid 4 here in Ireland and they work without problems on the stock firmware.

Anything wrong with buying one form Hong Kong?

With regards to the TyTn II...
My buddy is vacationing in Hong Kong this week and I was wondering if I'll run into any problems if I have him pick one up for me in the market over there?
I need to have him make sure that it's a 120 with 2 cameras.
I need to have him make sure it's not a German version with the 'z' and 'y' keys reversed.
Are there any other issues or things to consider?
Will I be able to re-flash? I don't know what else to ask.
I don't know if they are available, what the price might be or anything else. I'm also not able to have him bring back a box of them -- he's just a friend on vacation who might be able to do me a favor. (i.e. I'm not going to become a salesman for these.)

Sure, why not. Its not like china has a horrible reputation lately LOL
On a serious note, I dunno, still waiting for mine from at&t. I couldnt resist though.
I bought mine from HK..it's English Version...
All kaiser in HK is with 2 cameras, comes with 1 yr warranty..If any problem within 10 days..they will replace it with new one..
Right now... mine is working great..
Only the ATT ones will have the 100,200 etc. All the HTC branded phones will be unlocked and have all the features.
Consider warranty aspect
The Kaiser versions sold here are with 2 cameras and not locked to any carrier, and available in English. Comes with UK compatible power plug.
Only downside is that there is no worldwide warranty, just Hong Kong warranty.
Price?

If I was going to send my buddy around do you have any advice on what the name of the best market is and what his top negotiating price should be (in HK$)? He's Chinese but grew up in the US so he'll probably get taken advantage of like any other expat? LOL

There is a Wan Chai computer mall near where your friend is staying. They have some reputable shops such as Master OA, etc. Some other shops to buy from are Broadway, Fortress, Wilson phone shops, telco shops (CSL and 12Free) - they have shops in many places.
For now, it seems price is pretty standard (HK$5980-6180) since there is only official goods (i.e, from authorized distributor) available. So, it is unlikely your friend will get cheated there. There are 2 versions, English and Chinese with the earlier in lower quantity.
Hope this helps.

geaerally? eBay my friend.
I'm italian, is there any body who want to sell his/her s730?.. i need 2 devices for $500/$520.. sameone?..
I found many people selling it through "second hand" stores in our country. Try to do the same with google focused on your country area with keywords / sell HTC s730 price / of course in your native language (sell, price).

So you want someone to sell you 2 phones that retail for around $500-550 new for the price of one? The European model has only been out for a few months and AFAIK not picked up by networks yet.
I think you need to either set your price higher or wait for network upgrades to filter on the market. It's when people get 'free' or heavily subsidised phones they don't need that second-hand deals start becoming attractive.
But good luck!

Sure hope thats each, unless someone got theirs for free no one would sell two for what they payed for one, and if it was a pre - prod unit...
but there are not carreer like vodafone, o2, cingular that sell it for a contract? and sameone that coul resell it? i know it's possible and yet done
Did you try my recommendation? I found the second hand phones (one month old = warranty) on 500 dollars level in CZ. I think that in your country you will find the same. There are many people disillusioned by RAM, ATI drivers, GPS lacks.
For a new phone such as this, you'd perhaps be better off trying on ebay
Do not forget that price on ebay is sometimes "penalized" by paying also the TAX and VAT to your custom.
My S730 is brandnew and im already so fed up with it.
Im going to sell it on ebay in the comming days.
I will also post the link to the auction on this forum for you to use.
It means that you are not satisfied by s730 and you will switch to different producer? As f.e. jocky.d? If yes, I have some favorites.
share your favorites then roomish....as I too am getting annoyed with my S730 and ebay is calling
It is so pitty - S730 could be so cool smartphone.
Well my favorites:
Asus P750 - although it has only 64MB - the free memory is about 20MB, the phone is handy sized
iPAQ 614c - very cheap, little bigger
I-mate 8502 - qwerty keyboard
All models are on the market only few days.
I've only had this thing since last week and I think I'm going to return it. The memory leak is horrible, not to mention there isn't enough of it to begin with. If I browse to a non-mobile url using IE, the browser closes since there isn't enough memory! The keyboard is slow and if I type fast, misses letters and I have to go back. A few times I have placed calls and they route through the speaker phone even though I haven't activated it and the entire phone locks up. Don't buy this phone, it sucks. I should have bought a Tytn II, at least then I would have working GPS.
I was after something a little smaller but with features.....
I liked the size of my old C600 but obviously you get more the bigger you get :s
and does anyone want to buy an S730?

Already available in Singapore?

I'll be arriving to Singapore next Saturday (31st) and staying until the evening of the 6th... Will I be able to find the Diamond anywhere there? Any forum members based in Singapore could please advise (when, where etc.?) ...
Regards,
Gary.
So you're visiting singapore.. where are you actually from? It seems to be coming out in most markets around 6th june anyway. I guess you may save some tax if u just carry it in and keep quiet, but most likely that'll be canceled out by the over the odds price you may have to pay to get it right away.
Beloved S'pore isn't really a good place to buy phones - by far too expansive.
one of the cheapest places for htc devices is still Germany and other countries across Europe (additionally you will get 2 years warranty!)

Thanks, I may just miss it then (or, maybe I'll extend my stay in Singapore to cover Saturday the 7th also ),
Originally from the UK, I'm now based in Switzerland. I'm over there to do some training for a week,
It's not so much saving or not; to order locally is a pain when you don't want it preloaded in German or French. When ordering in English, it can take a while to arrive (as was the case with the TyTN II when I purchased it a few months ago) and it's no cheaper since you can't order an English (i.e. non-standard) phone with a contract.
Frankly, it's easier to walk into Sim Lim or where ever, just pick one up and avoid the troubles.
Gary.

Any online vendor in Australia ? who ships to India?
Australia may have it already, but Hong Kong as had it for two weeks already.
One thing is for sure, HK is the cheapest. I just got mine for HKD 2680. That's AUD359, SGD 467.
This is not an insiders deal, I just walked in off the street. HK puts everyone to shame (in more ways than one).

Seems they've had a bit of a change of heart over pricing too. SIM free price is £474, unless you're talking about the 12 month contract price + £18.99 on t-mobile, but that is £371.31 + you get 300mins and 200 txts thrown in for free.
they're still £373 + p&p if you buy it as pay as you go with vodafone. The first TD2's are shipping unlocked (or at least the ones to that supplier are) so you can just leave the voda sim out when it arrives if you're on another network. I think the 'sim free' option on the website is probably for when they start locking them to carriers.
The 12 month t-mobile contract is a good deal, except it means signing up to t-mobile!

They just package the retail HTC item with a sim-only contract that they get commission on.
It is not unheard off to offer a unbranded HTC device with a contract...I know when I used to go for packages like that in the past with O2 and T-mobile, I used to specifically ask for a de-branded/original unit from Carphone warehouse or Phones4U...and both offered it - if not after a few huffs and puffs
As for settings, remember most HTC if not all now days come with the settings manager app so it picks up the simcard, and 95% of the time, will have the settings for you already pre-programmed so you just hit install

I'm unsure why the price was put up as we always work to provide the best pricing at the current time.
We run systems to ensure we are competitive on pricing on all HTC products and are currently looking in to this blip. Any one who did purchase at the higher price has already been refunded the difference.
I'm also aware stock is now in a very limited supply with additional UK stock now over 4 weeks away.

We do get many reports that deliveries usually happen in the morning and in fact Diamond2's have already started to arrive this morning.

Hello dear neighbour! I bought mine from negri, and didn't have to pay customs etc, it's basically luck or bad luck.
Visit www.tradera.com (swedish auction site) there's one for sale right now.
contact the seller and ask him if he'd be able to send it to denmark!
Furthermore, i love the device, it's the quickest one i've held in my hands. The battery sucks tho, will last a day if you barley use it. Half day if you're using it all the time.
The screen is awesome, the phone doesn't scratch anywhere besides on the camera.
Typing from the droid, awesome keyboard.
Also, i've had no problems with simcards. Great reception and i managed to get 4.5mbit/s with tptest while in my car. If there's any questions, ask! I just enjoyed writing a long reply and abusing my keyboard lol.
I also have an as new unlocked D3 I can ship to you from England
Thanks
Thanks for the answers, think that will be my next mobile once i've have the money
