There are several how to videos you can find. Look for one click root if you only want to root. It is about as easy as you get. It was created by TGA Gunman. Or you can search for the Clockworkmod update.zip and place that in the root of your SD card. Then you would be able to install a Rom without actually needing to root your phone first.
Also please make sure to post questions in the proper section. You will have the wolves after you for posting a general question in dev

Okay guys, I'll start off saying that my phone was bought SIM Unlocked so if yours is not you may not want to do this route. If you don't care or plan on doing so anyways then follow these steps:
Download required drivers. I don't have a link right now but if you can't find ones that work anywhere else on the forums I'll find the ones I used and post a link here later on.
Download KDZ Updater. You can check this tutorial for download and instructions. Ensure you install all the files required.
Download This KDZ file and put it somewhere easy to find and navigate to.
Keep this thread open in a background tab. You'll be referencing this for instructions on how to actually unlock the bootloader. OR you can search for the all-in-one tool. It may be a sticky, I don't remember.
The reason for this thread here is that SO many people cannot unlock their boot loaders. Well, I found one that it worked. I had bricked my phone trying to flash a custom recovery without unlocking the boot loader and after 2 days of frantically searching this is what I found. These are all the resources you should need all compiled into one convenient package and where it's not fancy like the stickies it holds more information than I could find in 2 hours of searching and scouring the forums all in one place.
If you have anything you believe I should add or have any questions feel free to sumbit a reply and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

tl;dr - Do we really need yet another thread on how to carry out was is, honestly, a fairly simple operation? If someone can't figure it out from the existing instructions then this won't help them as you are simply pointing them to information that is already out there. And, to be honest, if they can't figure it out from the existing instructions then they should simply leave their phone alone.
Basically my phone is stuck on the GT-N7000 Samsung Logo screen.
Would love if somebody could make my day and tell me how I can restore my phone with it's pictures.
I know this is not as simple as it sounds but I have read a thread that explains something about non-wiping ROMs / upgrade ROMs? Is this true?
Notes:
I have a stock ROM (I bought the phone via Amazon Germany though).
Never tried to place another ROM onto phone.
I cannot go into recovery mode.
I am able to go into download mode.
I have heard of this ODIN but not familiar.
Heeelp!
This is a good thread to learn about odin

If you do not want to listen and do not want to read yourself (at least the first few posts with the tutorials) then why do you cry for help?
And answer in such an idiotic behavior?
Don't you think that it is this way of ignorance that is resulted in your "bricked" device?

Are you kidding me!? You're honestly a senior member? Calling my response idiotic is probably a little ironic. Let me explain why...
Firstly, I'm not going to waste too much of my time replying to you but my concern was that during the 501 pages of the thread something may changed from the start, I can't be sure how accurate the first posts are, which I feel is a valid point 1.
As for the bricked device, the phone became bricked itself due to no fault of my own, other people have experienced the same thing, I have avoided popping ROM's onto the phone to avoid voiding my warranty, I did not tamper with anything, this is valid point 2.
If you have nothing positive to contribute to this thread please refrain from adding any further comments, or take a chill pill and use a little empathy senior member.
I should also add that:
- I eeked at the 501 pages - I was not being condescending.
- I believe that there is a difference between ROM's that completely flash the whole memory and upgrade ROM's that will retain, hence why I asked the question, about 'upgrade' ROM's.
If you want to pull the pictures from the phone internal memory you can use a pc program called adb.exe, but you need to be in download mode.

Except he is right. This has been discussed. You're method is to read that thread. This is a website (or at least is supposed to be) for users that are willing to read the guides people have slaved to create
Everything you need to know is there.
And absent hardware failure, a phone doesn't brick itself.
Read dr.ketan thread on how to flash a stock ROM via PC Odin from download mode. The guide is current. This is the only answer you will receive here.

Thanks Ranger Captain! Much appreciated. I'll look into this!
The expert on adb.exe is a user nemed studacris. I think it would be ok to PM him and get the specifics of the command.
Roughly, connect the phone to the pc in download mode, open a command window, navigate to your adb directory, type adb device to confirm the connection, then type adb pull \directory name\all files /directory on pc and the files will transfer from the internal phone memory to your pc.

When you come across a 501 page thread and say the answer is there and current for people who are willing to read there is a bit of a problem here.
I was hoping a tech Guru on here who is familiar with my problem could help summarise key points relevant to my problem.
I am willing to concede after some of you have eluded to much of the information is in the first few pages. Thank you.
As for bricking - there has been corruption of what seems to be the firmware, which not is of the question, what point are you making? If you read a few other threads, others have experienced similar issues with attempting to update their ROM's.

Hey man. All you need to do is read the first post of dr.ketan's thread. Good luck. If flashing a stock ROM via PC Odin doesn't work, per the isnstructions on that thread, I will personally be more than glad to help. But that IS your first step.
There is nothing to summarize. Follow the procedure in that thread OP. You don't have to read ANY of the thread except the guide. If it doesn't help you get up and running, feel free to PM me or post here. But when someone tells you to read a thread you must realize they are probably referring to the Original Post. If you are told to search (xda users rule #1), then that is a different story. For example, if you said 'how do I Use an OTG cable', I would say 'search this thread for the keyword otg'. Nevertheless, that is not the case here. There is a specific guide in the OP of that thread that describes what your first step to fix your device should be. Once that has been exhausted, please feel free to ask for further guidance.
Take care and good luck.

I was reading. There is something not quite clear. Although the thread tells you a lot about how to do something, it doesn't say what it does or what it's for.
I've downloaded the software but further threads highlight that data may still be deleted.
Would you mind advising of how the thread can ensure that my data will not be deleted?

Which data you refer to?
Question: is your data nor backed up via Google?
As for SD card data, like photos, is that what you're talking about?
Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum; this is my first post.
I have an M7 on a stock HTC/AT&T ROM running Lollipop 5.0.2 with Sense 6.0.
I would like to root the device so that I can do things like eliminate ads, remove bloatware, run more advanced software, etc., but I do not want to loose things like Beats Audio/Boom Sound. So I'm thinking I just want to stick with the stock AT&T/HTC M7 ROM.
I have seen reference to the Sunshine App, but unless someone can tell me it does something absolutely magical for the one-use $25 payment they expect, I'm fine doing it the free way. I got the impression about Sunshine that it doesn't actually get you all the way to root. If it got me all the way and saved my data/apps, too, I'd be all over it.
Can someone please give me the full path of steps I need to go through to get this done? I'm not a dumb guy. Pretty computer savvy, actually, but there is a lot of jargon and intermediate steps that seem to be involved in all of this. Some of the videos I'm seeing are quite dated at this point, and I have to wonder if they are relevant to an AT&T M7 on Lollipop a this point. But I thrive on step-by-step tutorials, so if you guys point me to the right videos or written tutorials, I should be fine.
Any suggestion on the best way to backup my device would be appreciated, too. I understand I'm going to get all my data and programs wiped somewhere along the path.
Thank you!

Thanks, but I think you are making a few too many assumptions that I understand what your saying.
I don't think I can just flash twrp before unlocking the bootloader, am I right? And I have no clue how to flash twrp, how to set up to do that, and what to have where. I can do the steps if I know what they are. So I really am looking for a pretty explicit set of steps. You've given me some steps, yes, and thank you for that(!!), but I think you're coming from a position of already knowing exactly what you are doing and all the ramifications of each and every step you would take, so by the time it gets to me it just sounds like the cliffs notes and I'm still wondering what the novel is about.
And, yes, I get that some of you here answer these kinds of noobie questions a lot, and it just gets tedious repeating yourselves. Unfortunately for us noobies who come looking to the experts for the straight-up how-to, the responses all seem like "just do this, do that" without any discussion of how to do this and how to do that. I've read several "how do I root my phone" threads here, but the answers all seem just a little to Greekish to me, and to others too I would imagine. The video tutorials here were recorded back when the M7 was brand new and there's no indication at all whether updates along the way to present day have altered the process, or whether there is a safer, better way after all this time. I have no idea if they are relevant today.
I get that I'm asking a lot for such an old device, but I would really appreciate a little of a tutorial approach.
Thanks very much.

Hi,
I know its 2019, four years since you posted this request, but I just pulled my HTC One M7 AT&T after 3 years and had the exact same query and needed a way to ensure that steps mentioned in posts like these in 2015 are still relevant/applicable on our device running Android 5.0.2 with HTC Sense 6.
I was looking to have a device specific tutorial to finally make the plunge to install a custom ROM (someone ported Android 10 to this device!) , but remember there being some complexities back in the day to do this on our device. Were you able to get around this? Look forward to your response.
Thanks & regards,
Deepesh
So, I want to root my Xperia Z3 Compact. 6.0.1 D5803 .291.
I found few text tutorials here on this site, yet these don't help me at all, most of the words used in these threads i don't understand at all.
For example; "Backup your DRMs" And I'm Like "Backup what?,Backup how?"
If it comes to android I'm complete noob, and I don't know anything about this OS.
So I'm here hoping someone will waste their time trying to help me understand anything.
Edit: If this post has wrong flair, is in wrong sub or something is wrong with it, please point it out. Thats my first time using this site.

So first of all you asked the question in the right sub so don't worry about that.
Regarding the DRM keys, here is a brief explanation.
So the guides you saw probably say that you should unlock your bootloader, and when you unlock your bootloader you lose the said DRM keys.
When you lose the DRM keys your camera becomes a bit bad with it being very bad in low light situations and as well some of the Sony features won't work.
There is a zip you can flash to return the camera quality BUT it only works on stock ROMs.
So I would only recommend unlocking the bootloader if you are going to install something like Carbon ROM or LineageOS.
Now if you want to avoid unlocking the bootloader and just using the stock ROM there is a way to root it on a locked bootloader, you can find the method in the General subforum.
But do remember you can only install stock based ROMs on a locked bootloader, else the phone will be bricked.
I hope you understand now.
To start stay with locked bootloader and follow this tut. Do not unlock bootloader at this time...
This is about to Root and get TWRP (custom Recovery) and stay with locked bootloader...
