Is there a method to root Galaxy Note through Mobile?? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Just wanted to know, if there is any method of rooting the Note thru the device? If there is no way of rooting thru the device, which is the Simplest Method (There are many post and its so confusing, please direct me to the easiest rooting Method), also without downgrading, if any (without the risk)
Also i have updated to the latest 4.0.4 DDLR6 and still i see the emcc chip is at risk (thru Got Brick bug app from chainfire).
Sry for so many questions on a Single thread (New to Android, so doesnt want to take any chances)
Regards
Sri

u can root via cwm and su files using your phone
infact dis was d most easy and widely followed method till few days back
buy it has been discovered to be risky lately
u may find an old thread and use dat method
but some bricking risk rrmains..v remote chances..
best safest way today is what u already know..downgrade to prerooted gb..then mobile odin pro..everroot..flash ics..

A shorter and currently recommended way to root:
1. Flash safe kernel with root (ex: speedmod, notecore) through PC Odin.
2. Use triangle away app to reset binary counter.
I'm also on 4.0.4 stock and will probably use this shorter method.

Hi, I use CWM (blue touch UI) & SU files (both install & uninstall) to root my Note Stock ICS 4.0.4 ROM. So far everything runs smooth, even I format few times & re-do.
BTW, saw your thread here stating this method still has risk of being "bricked"
Is this still not recommended safe way? Where can I get OP thread to view the description in details on this issue? Thanks.

Go to Dr Ketan's post in android development .. it has everything you require to know about rooting your note

Sri, I guess u r anxious after reading several threads. Since you mentioned you are already on 4.0.4 DDLR6 and considering that if your objective is to just to ROOT (safely), follow what @gtranvi has rightly suggested. That will be a two step process.
1. Flash safe kernel with root (ex: speedmod, notecore) through PC Odin. (click here to download Speedmod. Thanks to hardcore for his post on this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673072&highlight=download+speedmod )
2. Use triangle away app to reset binary counter. Thanks to Chainfire, who has done a tremendous job on this (click here to download: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22463153#post22463153) Remembe rthat you have to download JUST the "TriangleAway-v1.70.apk"
And let me assure you... no need to panic, if you adhere to all the instructions properly!!!
Good luck...

You guys dont think we should stop mentioning that old method??
that method is proved unsafe, and no meaning to discuss more, as many newbies will find it from other site by reading here.
And read 'symbian6600' showing his achievement...
So we stopping discussion here.
OP can find rooting guide here

Do not use the old method at all, you risk a brick.

Hey, i'v understand that lc1 kernel stock is unroot for now, how can i downgrade for rooting?
or should i just wait for someone to release root for lc1?
Thanks.

root didnt worked for me so whats wrong
Try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535025
Easiest to get root IMHO.
After that, install Mobile Odin to flash custom kernel and you will get CWM.

Hi,
Used odin to flash a kernel (speedmod 2.8) then install super user from play and etc (mobile odin and titanium backup)
when you use odin you will get yellow triangle and the flash counter will grow but i is no a problem coz' ICS is just around the corner, so you can eventually reset flash counter in ICS
Hope I helped
Cheers
Have a look here too... Just flash using pc Odin.

It is a fair assumption that everything you need is in another thread..
If you have tried a method stated in another thread, then post in that thread if it failed... then your fix will be recorded for posterity and perhaps the thread OP changes the initial post to provide better/improved instructions for other users. This aspect is VERY important to the smooth running of the forum and the main reason why 50 individual threads on unroooting, the content of which are covered elsewhere, essentially render the search function useless.
if you just up and did something without guidance from another thread i suggest you go to square one and visit..

[Q] Root XXLA6 question

Hi all.
Finally got a Note and love it, but while I wait for official ICS here in the UK, I'd like to keep stock 2.3.6 GB but safely root it.
There's so much info here, it makes me a bit nervous in-case I pick the wrong method.
I have this:
https://www.box.com/s/1dfacc6107713602d2e8
and would like to know what method I should use to root.
Thanks

Use Dr. Ketan's method!
Go here and follow the instruction for your Rom.
Edit: Just saw your picture, you have LA4 not LA6 on your device, that means that you can flash a Direct Rootable Rom!
Thanks for the reply but I'm a bit confused, my Note shows Build: GINGERBREAD XXLA6 as does the Kernel, so are you saying that it's the Baseband version : N7000XXLA4 that I should be paying attention to?
Also according to Kies it's PDA:LA6 / PHONE LA4 / CSC LA1 (XEU)
yes la4 is the rom version you are using, you will need to downgrade to be able to root
which rom do you suggest I downgrade to and still allow update via Kies?
Will the downgrade via Odin up my flash counter and give me the triangle?

I bought the Galaxy Note N7000 yesterday and I have exactly the same android-, baseband-, kernel version and build number. The only difference is I'm from the Netherlands and using Vodafone.
Now I've been looking for a way to root it, but I also wondered which XXLA# I should use for it.. I saw the reply of the downgrade (ofcourse) but I am wondering: those r for Poland and Germany... Or doesn't that matter and I can root it anyway w/o bricking the phone?
Post november roms are difficult to root, best optuon is to go to pre december 2011 rom
Or go to ICS and use cwm. Zip and superuser. Zip method

Well yeah, I get that point, but the thing is: I'm kinda noob with this. To be honest: my roommates rooted my galaxy s for me, but they did it so fast that I didn't get half of what they did..
My eventual goal is to learn how to root a smartphone and upgrade mine to android ics. My current android version is an unrooted stock 2.3.6 and I wanna go for a rooted ICS, but I already start to wonder now if I can upgrade my phone to rooted ICS immediately from the 2.3.6... Could u guide me a little in this?
By the way: sorry if I ask some pretty obvious questions that might have already been answered elsewhere on the forum, but I have been looking all over the forum and just don't know which info I should use from which posts anymore..
If you want ics then it is very easy.
First flash ics and then root it., ics is directly rootable.
I recommend first hard reset on gb rom for clean installation.
All informatikn regarding ics update n root, u can find on first link on my signature.

Well, I thought the safest way to get me ICS on the phone was through updating with Samsung Kies. After this I was planning to put CWM in the folder sdcard/external_sd and Busybox on the internal sd, but...
I got it updated now, but I lost the folder external_sd.. I can't create a new folder with this name either.. I don't actually have an external SD card, but if I remember it well, I didn't need it either. I have seen the folder external_sd for sure in there..
Edit: Bought an external sd card and did the root like u said, but without flashing back to GB. It worked! Thanks alot for the clear walkthrough! Hail dr. Ketan!

Yes...i want to root the lc1 by this procedure...its posible or not....
You should follow the instructions in the other pinned thread from Dr. Ketan.
This one here is for ICS.
If you are on a LC1: Download Mobile Odin Pro and the LC1-kernel from Chainfire's thread and install the extracted zImage with it.
I do this all the time before installing a new ICS ROM.
But again: read the above thread and the instructions carefully.
Thanks..but my note is revive from hardbrick..it now loss 3gigabyte...
My worried is downgrading via odin pc...
Its possible to encounter again to hang on to factoryfs?
1. you bricked your device already - so I think it's ok to assume you didn't really read the warning threads how to flash in a save way.
2. you want to do it again - because it's obvious you didn't read or understand what is written there
3. I really like to help, but here I'm getting afraid to give hints. Please read the pinned threads in the development forum and follow the instructions there.
"downgrading": Odin doesn't know wether you want down- or upgrading. More interesting: downgrading from LC1 to what version?

LC1: I use stock LC1 (with PC Odin) and after that I install CF Kernel with Mobile Odin Pro for rooting and permanent CWM. Then I install Abyss Kernel from CWM as base for new ICS Roms.

The guys from service center replaced the board and put 4.0.3 lq2 which was for the region UK/Ireland.
I want to be sure this time before i did an update.
I was able to find a thread from dr ketan which said that i had to shift to shift to GB before i could flash 4.0.4 from 4.0.3

If you have never done it before (or once but failed), I suggest you read and google / search more about how to do it manually without OTA / Kies.
Especially if you want to install the latest LRQ. A lot of websites are giving advice to do a full wipe on the installation of LRQ, eventhough some users are succeeded in flashing without wiping.
And in order to do a full wipe, you will need to use a safe kernel on your device (which need rooting first), or if you do not want to root your device, you will need to go back to GB rom first and do a full wipe on GB rom, then flash the LRQ from ODIN.
WARNING : Do not do full wipe with ICS stock kernel and/or non-safe ICS custom kernel !
For LRQ thread : Click here, and read carefully !
There are some reply referring on how to flash this ROM also (under page 8) if I'm not wrong.
But sit "relaxly", and read carefully before you do anything to your phone, since you don't want to brick it again, right ?

ya..
dr. ketan is the best for rooting/unrooting, and all other thing for flashing :good:
I always refer back to his method, and always work, since my Galaxy-S time.
root, make efs backup safe multiple locations
Wipe/factory reset only on safe kernel recovery and you are good to go flashi g what you want.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1841288 for root
toolbox thread dr ketan for backup efs
I would just root using that flashable zip that chainfire created using stock recovery, then use mobile odin to flash 4.0.4 thats the easiest way i can think off.

How to change to my local Rom (solved)

My experience is with Motorola HTC huawei. I have never owned a Samsung before and I am a little confused. I rooted my note and it currently has an advanced recovery and I deleted some apps I never use. The image attached should tell you guys what it is at the moment. I would like to install the Bangladesh version ics Rom for the note but I'm not sure how to go about it.
1. How do I flash the Rom. Do I flash like I did with my HTC and Motorola.
2. Would I lose root in the process?
3. If and when Samsung releases jb for note would I be able to update ota?
4. What is odin why do I need it and what's flash count?
5. I don't like aosp or aokp roms. What Rom should I move to eventually?
6. If I flash a Rom will I lose everything from the internal sdcard?

1.
I never use HTC and Motorolla smartphone, but in samsung, you can use ODIN (you can choose ODIN PC, or Mobile ODIN).
For mobile ODIN, you can use the lite version free (from google play), or you can purchase the mobile ODIN pro. But mobile ODIN can only be use if you are rooted.
Otherwise, ODIN PC would be a good choice (if yours not rooted, or do not intend to purchase mobile ODIN pro).
You may refer to this thread (by dr. Ketan). Read properly on how to flash your Note, once you understand, you may proceed.
2.
If you are rooted already, and you flash by ODIN PC, yes... you will be unroot again, and go back to stock kernel.
if you use mobile ODIN, you can keep the root by choosing keep root option(but in some cases, root also gone). But don't worry, if your root gone in the process, you can always root back your device, using this thread (by dr. Ketan again). All credits goes to him, I only provide you the link.
3.
When sammy will release ? no news yet. I only know soon. But I believe it should be after the release of Note 2 in all countries, only then we will receive the OTA for JB on our N7000.
For OTA updates, I'm not so sure if you are able to do it perfectly when your device is rooted. I have never done the update from OTA / or even Kies so far. I always use ODIN.
4.
ODIN is a tools to help you to flash firmware / kernel / csc. It's an optional tools in case you want to flash firmware from other countries. Or when you want to change kernel, but your device is not rooted, or when you want to flash just the CSC files.
Flash count is the binary counter, it's like a protection to Samsung, so they will know whether you flash custom ROM / kernel onto your device or not, and if yes, how many times. Normally when your binary counter up, Sammy will void your warranty.
But don't worry, there's a tool to remove by using this thread (Triangleaway, by Chainfire).
Binary counter is up when you (edit : flash custom kernel via ODIN PC). When you flash original firmware (from any countries), using ODIN PC, it won't up your binary counter, as it is considered as official ROM from Samsung.
5.
You can use TW ROM.
6.
It is always good to move your important data to external SD card first. and/or you can backup first before you flash anything onto your device.
But my understanding, your internal SD card won't be affected eventhough you do a full wipe, unless you format it. :fingers-crossed:
Lastly,
Just a gentle reminder, DO NOT do any full wiping under original ICS stock kernel / recovery. You want to wipe, please flash a safe kernel first.
Choice of safe kernel = you can find it here, a thread summarize by Chasmodo.
Hydracore, Philz, and speedmod is proven to be safe (as they have removed the eMMC brick bug).
Please read all carefully before flashing.
Good Luck!

Custom ROM normally flashed by recovery.
Normally you can only flash a Custom ROM after you have rooted your device.
ODIN only use to flash official firmware / CSC from samsung.
or to flash custom kernel.
anyway, if you are really new to this note, I suggest you to do more research and reading, especially on dr. Ketan thread.
He really helps us a lot here with his thread.
Only when you are confident and sure about the step, then you may continue. A lot ppl don't want to read carefully, and end up in bricking the device. (I was one of them when first time having this note). After bricking then I start to learn from scratch, read more post and thread.
u should do the other way around, read more, confident, then do.
Good Luck!
