Hello all, New to this part of forum. Quick question, I have an HTC one x, not super happy with it, long love hate relationship with it and HTC themselves. I have decided to move on the one x. I have been offered a swap for a Galaxy Note, was going to do the swap, did a quick google and see the Note 2 is due for release soon. Should I just bite the bullet and swap for the note, or wait for the note 2, although I will imagine it will be a case.of selling the one x and adding substantially to it to buy the note 2, or whatever it will be called. I use my phone primarily for surfing and texting, only a few games to occupy me whilst on the thrown. Would I notice any real drop in speed from the quad core to the dual core.
Cheers for any replies.

I have the One x and battery is very poor. I read the note has a very good battery. So for texting and surfing I would defenately choose the note
regards sygys
Not a huge difference man,u can check quadrant score for that, one x vs the note.

Didn't realise they were so close on quadrant. Hate the battery on one x, had an s3 for a bit, but sold it to fund a 60" tv, wasn't the biggest fan of it. I think I will take the jump to the note.

Between the note and the one x...
The pros of moving to the note from a one x
- Huge difference in Battery Life
- Micro Sd
- Super Amoled HD (if you are sm1 who likes the deep blacks)
- S-Pen
The cons
- A little slower (not by too much a little that you will initially notice)
- Heavier
- Slower Camera (This you will definitely notice)
The question am asking is why the note and not the s3?
the note 2 in all probability should be a little bit of a step up from the s3 (since the note was a little bit of a step up from the s2 and not a complete overhaul... )
Ash
I have a complete video comparison at the link below...
Thank you for the replies guys, think I will ebay my One X, and wait patiently for the Note 2. Great video link about the comparison, not long to wait hopefully to the release of the note 2 now.

For applications to perform well on quad they have to be written to utilise all cores. Not many quad core apps our there at the moment so it is unlikely you will notice any performance difference.
Especially if you go for Rocket ROM and NoteCore kernel.

Yo!
So, i'm looking for a new phone to buy but i can't decide between the Galaxy SII (the white one which IMO looks hawt) and the Galaxy Note.
I can't decide if i want a 5,3" screen or 4,3". I know, it's stupid not to go for the 5,3" screen, but i'm not sure on size of the device itself.
What whould you buy? (Btw, is the Note's bootloader open/crackable?)
(Mods, i know i'm in the wrong area with this post, but i want to check what my homies here @ Off-topic think)
Either way your getting an absolute f******g beast of a device....
Not sure if the note would be just that little bit too big for a phone but I havent handled one so I can't really comment...
The white one looks putrid though (jm2c)
Yeah i know! But i've tested the Galaxy S WiFi 5" and it's huge, and the Note is even bigger BUT it's way way thinner, so.. i don't know! But.. but.. just LOOK at that screen!
I've got the S2 and absolutely love it, but I would (after a try) probably swap for a Note if I could, so I voted for that.
Either way mate, like Conan said you're getting a BEAST! Get one of each and then give me the one you decide not to keep
Even tho i think the note is WAY WAY WAY TOO BIG!!!
I voted for it as it is faster
Hmm, looks like the Note will be my new device! The only thing i'll have to do now is to wait...
It's not released here yet.. Booo!

i'd have gone for a Galaxy Note, if they made it for the Tmo USA AWS 1700/2100 network
Yup, i'm super into the Note now after reading Engadget's review and watching a lot of YouTube videos. I must have it! Come to papa!
Either is great but the Note has a Pentile screen so some say white looks green especially whe magnified (Best iimage I can currently find) But either choice is awesome
(Also below only shows a SGS1,)

Because we are talking about a Super AMOLED display and not a Super AMOLED Plus, the display is based on a so-called PenTile pixel structure, where pixels share subpixels. A PenTile OLED panel was recently introduced with the Samsung Galaxy Note, and we were not impressed. In real world PenTile means loss of details and sharpness, as well as a bluish/greenish tint around letters (depending on the background color). See how it looked on the Galaxy Note in the picture below.

Actually, yes it can. Don't know if you've tried to hold it, but if you have "normal" man hands it'll work fine. I can do most things with one hand except writing on the keyboard.
And remember that the Note is only 9mm thick, so it slides easily into the pocket

Hey all.
Basically i just want to hear all your thoughts on your current devices, and what you think of the next device in that product family.
My thoughts.
My first android device was the Motorola defy which really sold android for me, the fact i could treat a phone horribly by accident and it not care was a really solid selling point. The developer community for it was really quite strong too, it even receiving CM10 before my current S2.
The original transformer isn't the prettiest, lightest and fastest tablet anymore (not that it was ever lightest SO MUCH GLASS) but it was and is my first tablet and still works amazingly today. Good job Asus.
My current phone is the Samsung Galaxy S 2 which i bought outright after everyone that had one giving raving reviews and a quick view of the forum showed a very active community. Little did i know the issues the developers faced to get the aosp roms working properly, it is not pretty and it is entirely the fault of Samsung and their hardware partners (I am looking at you, yamaha). I know this and love the developers for supporting my S2 so well, especially codeworkx whom has been moving devices lately.
I love the idea of getting the S3, but i would only be going for the larger screen and if all i want is the larger screen why not go even larger and get the Note 2? Especially after its drop test video. It is a tank of a phone.
The One X+ Kind of interests me with unlocked bootloaders etc. But the fact i have to flash the kernel separately to the ROM every time (or at least that is my understanding) would really annoy me.
After the defy i would rush to a unlocked bootloader on a Motorola. That and screen size were the only issues i had with my defy.
But my current plan runs out in December which is only a few months away and i would love some ideas on devices coming into Christmas season.
Currently i am thinking Note 2, but i don't want to have half baked aosp roms because of hardware support. Ideas?
And yes doing a BYO 6 month plan with my local carrier is an option.
How bout this one?

There are some really cool devs and contributors who have written apps and scripts that enable you to flash everything all at once, kernel included.

I have the SGSIII and the One X. In the case of the One X (not the One X+ but it's basically a refresh of the One X) yes, you do have to extract and flash the boot.img via your pc using fastboot and the flash the modules via recovery...not as bad as it sounds. It's a great phone.
The SGSIII not only has a bigger screen but a higher resolution than the SGSII. There are many ROMs for it and in the case of the US variants I've flashed ROMs made for the AT&T variant on my T-Mobile one. (The international version also has great development.)

Hey Tommy thanks for the reply, i take it your experience is from the EVO?
Thanks Babydoll one of my friends has the one x which i rooted/cm10ed for him the other day, it was an interesting look into HTC custom roms and i must say it is not overly difficult or anything. And i did see the scripts Tommy was talking about, they would be nice in easing the transition. How do you find the one x build quality? I heard it was hit and miss between users.

I'd say One X without a doubt !!!
Yes, S3 does look better on paper (specs wise) but trust me you will not be impressed with S3 anymore after you have a look @ One X. One of my friend has S3 & other has One X, although S3 has better battery, practically standby time for both is same. Screen size is almost the same. S3's most suckiest part is it's native UI, so called "TouchWiz" it feels like samsung really hired some retards to design their UI, just one word it's BORING !
Trust me i'm not anti-samsung (i own Galaxy R myself !) but based on my expirence i'd say you should go for One X. Checkout both the live display phones in shop b4 u make ur decision.
If you are willing wait for a while, One X+ & DLX are pretty awesome.

For any I9305 S3 owners .. Whats the overall speed (fluidity) like on your device.
Do you get any sort of lag whatsoever, simple things like running a live wallpaper in the background etc. ?
Want to know as this is one of my options for an upgrade.

Well recently I updated to official 4.1.2 German firmware and its quite fluid. I find the only basic annoying lag is when you press the home key. Theres a lot of lag and then it decides to go to homescreen. Otherwise I have few eegrets. I however recommend a Galaxy Note 2. Bigger, faster processor, and comes with s pen. Thats if you can manage the extra size. Otherwise the s3 is your best bet
As far as I know the S3 uses exactly the same processor as the Note 2.
The Note 2's is just overclocked to 1.6ghz, we can do this on the S3 quite easily.
Mines running 1.7 ghz so it's faster than Note 2.
Sent from my GT-I9305 using xda app-developers app
No, the Note2's chip is at revision 2.0, whereas the SGS3's is at v1.1. The Note2's chip is better.
The LTE version of the SGS3 is exactly the same as the non LTE version (I have both). They can both be as fast or slow as you want them to be depending on the CPU and governor settings you apply.
Live wallpapers? I was running live wallpapers on my single core 1GHz HTC Desire, i really don't think a quadcore 1.4GHz beast is going to struggle.
That's interesting about the processor, I asked if they were the same in the store when I was weighing up between Note 2 and LTE S3. The guy in the store said the processors were identical, just Note 2 is clocked at 1.6 ghz. Just shows how much they know!
Oh well I still don't regret my decision the i9305 is a beast of a phone and the Note 2 is just toooooo big for me.

Trust me you won't regret it, I upgraded from a normal S3 and see the difference with multi tasking the extra 1 gb ram and the ability to support lte and also dc-hsdpa ( faster form of 3g) that's not present on the normal s3 makes this phone standout. It's what the original s3 should have always been to start with

S III LTE is one of the best phone currently out there, with a continuously growing base of custom rooms, kernels, mods etc. Even on the stock rom the UI is very smooth. Altough (at your own risk) I would recommend rooting and debloating the phone.
The 2GB RAM is the kicker.

I have an i9300, i9305 and the i9505 (S4).
I find it hard to believe that the only difference between the i9300 and i9305 is the extra ram. The i9305 absolutely blows the normal S3 away. To the point that I literally only began using the i9300 only for calls / text. Lag on the i9300 is massive in comparison.
And the difference in battery life is enormous. I've owned 3 i9300's and 3 i9305's so this wasn't a case of a bad phone. All 4g models had / have much better battery life. So much for 4g phones being battery hogs. Simply not true.
To be honest I don't find the s4 any quicker than the i9305. It's a beauty. And I agree this is what the i9300 should have been.

People say that Moto X Phone will drop in Aug., equipped a Dual-Core CPU, Clear-Pixle camera, and a Big battery which can let you using it for over 2 days. As the Nexus 4 has overheat problem, and a poor battery, easy smash glass back... which one would you prefer.
Actually my Nexus 4 can handle two days' usage, but it is really hot at sometimes. I would prefer Moto X phone, if it will be available soon..

I'd say the decision comes down to what the real specs and details are when it's all officially announced. If it's vanilla Android with Moto widgets as a bonus- it will be interesting.
With Google/Motorola looking at spending a TON on marketing for this phone; it's hard to imagine Google allowing Moto to release something that won't grab a lot of people's attention.
Also, where it's being sold can be a factor for Nexus 4 owners. If it's carrier only I won't buy it. If it's through Play Store then we're getting closer to raising my interest.

I think I would stick with the Nexus. I don't like the button placement on that phone, I like the flat slab feel of the Nexus, curved phones tend to feel funny to me, glass > plastic, Nexus has a quad core where the X is said to have a dual core, etc.
LTE, better camera, better battery, and a better looking phone.... It is hard to stick with the N4 after the Moto X is released. It's rumored to have the same price as the N4 and considering it is being sold on the Play Store, it is clearly going to have a stock experience.
Easily the Moto X. Smart Actions are awesome imo. I always like Moto's build quality too. Their cameras are average. I should've bought a Moto Atrix HD over the Nexus 4 myself. The LTE will be active on the Moto X. I am preparing to sell my Nexus 4 for the Moto X or S4 in the next few weeks. The Nexus 4 is flawed because the digitzer is visible on each device, the camera is not great at all, the phone overheats too much, the battery is not as good as other devices like the S3. Outside of those issues, the phone is a good overall product. You cannot have everything for $330 (after tax and shipping.) The Moto X will have a slightly faster processor (might be dual core, but still faster, 1.7 dual > 1.5 quad even though dual will be overworked a bit more), the camera will be a lot better at 10 MP, the build quality will be better, the OLED display will help, the battery should be a RAZR Maxx HD style battery at like 3100 mAh, LTE like said before, customization on the build quality and design of your choice, and you can always put a rom like CM10 on it.
