HELP! my HD7 resets itself to factory defaults and loosing everything - HD7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hay guys,
i bought my hd7 afew months ago and have had this happen afew times now and its really starting to annoy me.
so the phone just restarts itself and gets stuck on the HTC screen on bootup, then sometimes it will continue but will goto the startup pages as if this if the first time i have used the phone. if it doesnt continue i will have to remove the battery and leave it for abit then try again.
the last time it happened i had to do a factory reset myself using the volume + button on bootup to get it to work again.
so, all in all. phone resets itself and almost like formats the phone removing all photos, and settings etc.
i havent got and hacks or different rom's on the phone, i just update it through zune. its running mango at the moment.
any help would be great
THanks

I can only think of 3 things :
Problems:
defective sdcard ( failing to read and write)
corrupted rom partition ( flash or zune upgrade process gone bad)
Failing hardware ( hardware parts are slowly dying)
Solutions
1) Try to flash the same rom again or another stock rom
2) replace sdcard
3) replace phone/ send for service
for the first 2 methods there are tutorials in these forums.
Follow them wisely and carefully
3rd solution is obvious
Take care.

I had the same problem, but after changing sim cards the problem seems to have sorted itself. I think it was the network. Can you try another sim and see if that is the problem? Hope this helps.

Restart / reboot problem

Hi,
I recently bought a X1 (second hand), and for several weeks it worked fine.
But the last week it keeps on restarting.
First i did a hard reset, then i installed hard-spl and flashed the phone with the newest Christian Rom (WM6.5). And still its rebooting.
Even when i'm not doing anything, it will reboot on it's own...
Not all the time, but approx 5 till 10 times a day.
Enough to get me crazy!
Please help.
I have searched the forum and found a few messages with the same problem, but no solutions.
TIA.
Roy
Maybe you should try out the MTTY tool? Search it a bit here and you'll find how to use it on the Xperia.. If that fails then I suppose its a hardware issue??

Thanks, but i can't figure out how this works.
Reading the forum, it looks like a tool for solving connecting and booting problems.
But thats not my problem...
The X1 simply reboots now and then. This mornig i installed the newest cristian clean rom, and it worked for a few hours. And then it restarted 5 times in a hour.
HELP! i don't know what to do.
TIA!

Yahh I've been getting this too recently, no idea why though as its been working fine the first few months with the touch x rom, haven't changed any software significantly in that time, but it will reboot seemingly randomly a couple times a day, but only when I'm not using it weirdly enough.
I'll try these suggestions and hopefully it may help.

Hi RedruM. I'm sorry to hear you have the same problem, but i'm glad i'm not alone in this anymore!
I found a stock rom yesterday and flashed it, and for allmost a day it worked fine.
But this mornig it restarted several times.
When i get home from work i will try the MTTY solution.
I hope you can figure out whats wrong. Please let me know.
Can't get mtty to work on my W7 computer...
any other idea's?
I have installed several roms, hard-spl'ed and stock-spl'ed...
Yesterday i had a good feeling with a stock rom from Vodafone and it worked!
Untill this morning... It began to restart again, and again and again...
Help?
:'(
Oke, got the mtty tool working on my XP laptop.
So i did this:
1 - Format memory card (fat32)
2 - Copy stock rom to card
3 - Do not insert card in phone yet
4 - Uncheck usb connect in Active sync
5 - Connect phone to pc
6 - Restart phone holding volume down and power button (tri collor screen)
7 - Start MTTY
8 - Get cmd prompt
9 - Type commands:
set 14 0
task 28 55aa
task 29
task 8
10 - Disconnect phone from pc
11 - Remove battery
12 - Insert memory card with rom
13 - Insert battery
14 - Restart phone holding volume down and power button (tri collor screen)
15 - Press power button to start update
16 - Wait for Update Complete - UPDATE SUCCESS
17 - Remove battery
18 - Remove meory card
19 - Insert battery and restart phone
20 - OS is installing
So far so good.
First thing my X1 does when customizing is..... RESTARTING!
What am i doing wrong?
Looks like the problem gets worse...
Multiple restarts in short time.
Rom doesn't matter... Stock or custom, it will restart.
Also the SPL doesn't matter. Hard-SPL or Stock-SPL, restarting...
Is there anybody out there who had the same problem and solved it?
Any help would be great!!!
Thanks!

[Q] Bricked Milestone, stuck at Motorola logo

Hi,
I managed to brick my Milestone, terminally I'm afraid, but the symptoms are different than what I see around the forum so they might interest someone else.
So, I first backed up everything with GOT Nandroid and Titanium Backup then modded CyanogenMod 7 RC4 0.08-11.04.05 (Android 2.3.3) successfully, except that the SIM was locked and would not unlock, although it works in another phone. This was a bug supposedly fixed in version 6 of Cyanogen...
Browsing the forums, the only thing that made a bit of sense was that maybe the GSM frequency was set to the wrong value. There is a Nandroid mod (but not GOT) that allows you to change that so I entered GOT Nandroid again. Since it had no such option, I Rebooted. Then, the fun begun.
The phone got stuck on the Motorola logo and no button, not even Power, worked anymore. After waiting for many minutes with no progress, I took out the battery - that made a change , the phone shut down. I then put it back - the phone immediatelly, no, instantly, cause there's no delay as when you were powering it up, lights up with the same Motorola logo. Tried several times, always the same behavior.
I left it booting (but also connected to the charger) for a whole night, no change.
The phone is not seen by the PC when connected to USB. It won't reboot, normally or to recovery. Buttons won't work at all. Yeah, tried with or without the SIM and the sdcard, no change. Tried to start without battery, just the charger, doesn't work.
Useless to say, I am getting bored of that Motorola logo
I suspect that the bootloader in the internal memory got corrupted. Can this be flashed even if the device is not seen by the PC (I mean by the RDSLite installed on it)?
Cheers
When the charger is connected to the phone try at the same timeull out and pull in the battery while holding the buttons who will get you in the OR
Yup, it worked. So first I got the battery with a question mark. Then I put in the battery and I got a battery at 60%. Since I was holding Power+Camera, it continued to the Recovery mode and now I have a working Milestone with Cyanogen mod!!
Thank you a lot, Mikicishte.
I still have to see about the initial locked SIM problem... but that will be mostly fun.

Have you tried to factory reset the Milestone, to see if after that the SIM is accessible again ?
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/14099-sim-card-not-detected-after-factory-reset/
You could try also to install a logger application catlog for example (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.nolanlawson.logcat&feature=search_result ) to see in the logs if you can find out more details to help you with the investigations...
I did the factory reset as part of installing the mod.
Even if the post quoted reports the wipe as the source of the problem and not as a solution, I just wiped again with no good result.
Will try catlog.

or maybe you could try to use an unlock tool to see what error is reporting

[Q] Galaxy S stuck in boot-loop

Hi guys,
Gone through about 100 threads these last couple of days, but nothing helps, so have to start a new one.
What happened was that the other day my phone started ringing.
The screen however was black, so I could neither see who was calling nor answer the call.
I let it ring out, then I held the power button so it would shutdown.
Tried to restart it, and that's when the fun started.
The phone got stuck in a boot-loop, only showing the Galaxy S logo (not getting to the animated one).
Left it in this loop for several hours, since I've had problems recently with the phone needing to do this cycle 5-10 times before booting up.
This time it wouldn't boot, however.
I've tried putting the phone in a bag of rice for 18 hours, in case of any moisture inside, not helping.
Then I tried recovery-mode, formatting the whole thing, but I got the following error:
"E:format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2"
Found this thread to try to fix the format error.
Got into download mode, but Odin does not recognize the phone, and I started believing all hope for fixing it without sending it in was gone.
I've also tried applying a couple of update.zip's from the SD-card, just to have tried it, but every package got Signature verifcation-error.
Anyway, when I headed to bed last night I left the phone in the boot-loop, and to my surprice, 8 hours later it had booted into first-time configuration.
YES!!!
Configured the phone with language etc., then all of a sudden the animated Galaxy S logo appeared...
And it appeared again, and again, and again for about 15 min., until I unplugged the battery.
And now I'm back at square one, stuck in the boot-loop (not getting to the animated logo)...
I have the latest versjon of KIES, not that it probably matters.
Does anyone have an idea of what the problem might be?
What rom were you using? stock or custom? Maybe it has something to do with lagfix if it was activated... im guesing, im not dev just normal user... Maybe try to reinstal usb drivers.
Just use odin 1.3 reflash official rom , everything would be OK.
Not sure about the ROM, bought the phone used... But pretty sure it's stock..
Since Odin didn't recognize the phone, reflashing it with official ROM would be hard...
However, as for the Odin problem, that was caused by a faulty USB-cable...
Used another one, and Odin worked like a charm.
The phone won't start after running through the steps in the thread I mentioned before, but I will try to reflash it with offical ROM now and see how that works.

Not sure about used phone, But if I bought the phone used, I would reflash rom first. Because I do not even know what they done before , reflash offical rom would be fix some problem.

Well, I would have if I knew... But stupid me thought that a phone was a phone.
How wrong was I?
Anyway, a little update here (the problem is kind of solved now):
Flashed the phone with 2.3.3 Gingerbread I found on dkszone, after running the steps in the previous mentioned thread.
And the phone started like a charm.
But after a few hours of configuring etc, I managed to insert the SD-card again, and all hell broke loose again...
Come to think about it, thats what I did yesterday too, so I've come to the conclusion that the SD-card is the main problem...
However, now the phone is slow... REAL slow... Kind of like my 1.5 year old HTC Touch Diamond 2 with WP6.5...
It takes up to 2 seconds to open menu items, keyboard etc.
Is there any way to fix that?
Or should I flash it with another ROM?
You mean the external sdcard? Maybe try to format it...
OK, so this is what I've now figured out:
The phone is damaged...
It seems that the internal SD has gone AWAL, and internal storage has somehow created itself on the external SD-card, thus the phone crashed when I switched cards...
When trying to format the USB-storage, I receive error: SD-card has been removed
So I guess I have to ship the phone off to Samsung ASAP...

[Q] need help: galaxy sl keep on auto restart on its own

i have a galaxy sl and after flashed with XXKP9, i face auto restart problem and it occur every 5 minutes and then i flash it with XXKPH, the problem still the same...can anyone help me?
after flashed, i install go launcher ex ,would it be the problem?
or i shud flash it back to the original rom? how to do so?
1. did you follow the flashing guides to the letter?
2. you just flashed a firmware so you should know how to flash back to a FROYO stockrom, just download one and follow the guides...
3. "posting as much info as you can" is your friend (how did you flash?, what EXACTLY did you do?, did you do a factory reset before flashing? did you get an error message when flashing etc etc)
4. go launcher should not be a problem, i use it and works like a charm
5. a LOT of people flashed KPE/KPH here and almost none had issues, so im sure you made a mistake somewhere
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=I9003+XXKPE+bootloop
EDIT: just saw you also posted in the other thread
Follow the guide under my signature. That should help, Also please avoid making new topics that doesn't relate to the [DEV] section.
sorry for the late reply..
i follow exactly your guide while flashing my galaxy sl from step 1 to step 18.
i dint factory reset before i flash but factory reset after i flashed.
after that, i flash it again for CWM "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15681160&postcount=1"
it works great within 7 or 8 hours after i flashed... but after tat it started to force restart on its own every few minutes ...

if you are sure you did it all right, since rest of us dont have that problem it might be hardware.
I faced this problem and Service Center said that my memory chip was damaged. Should you come to Service Center for checking...
hi guys,
i have been following this thread for the past few weeks since i bought a second hand galaxy sl..i never thought that i will be encountering this kinds of problems with samsung..anyway to cut the long story short, ever since i bought this i was having a problem with a kernel panic mode error...then updated it into a GB 2.3.5 then later encountered an auto restart error and a boot loop error...after several tries of flashing different kinds of firmware none of those has solved the problem...i later came to think that the problem came from a faulty motherboard...i was helpless and i had no choice but to just bite my nails since my phone no longer has any warranty and replacing the motherboard is so expensive...then yesterday when i was going through with different forums about android..i found out that galaxy ace users are facing the same problems as well...then finally i found a solution to stop this unwanted restarts to occur...i downloaded the app LoadMonitor and WIFI Keep Alive.
For LoadMonitor you must make sure that these settings are applied.
-Add Notification
-Auto start
-Set the update interval to your preferred interval
-Wake lock
For WIFI Keep Alive
-Set your WiFi Policy to "Always On"
- Under "Advanced Options"
- Select "Enable Workaround 2"
- Enable Debug Logs
The downside for installing this apps is a increased battery consumption..so far from what i have observed I can use the phone for 6 hours straight without getting any auto-restart problems. Hopefully this will be a permanent solution while I save up to buy an iPhone..I will never buy any samsung phone again.

[Q] Please help LG P970 cannot read SD and Camera force closes!

Hello everybody........Great website by the way very helpful all the time.If anybody can please help me it will truly be appreciated...Thanks in advance!Long story short.....My GF was taking a video with her LG P970 and then it stopped because the SD had just reached its limit so the camera just forced closed. After that I noticed the phone became laggy(More than it already is btw)then there was a message in the notifications bar "Removed SD card"although it was still in the phone. The phone then started to freeze so I took out the battery and turned it on again but still the phone kept saying "Removed SD card"and when I tried the camera it would never open just a black screen would pop up and nothing......Just force close....(Good grief)..........So heres what ive tried.1.Factory Data Reset from privacy menu in settings.2.Tried other SD cards (5 other ones by the way).3.LG support mobile tool updating.4.Smartflash program to reset the phone to stock.5.Tried a bunch of different DRIVERS to see if it could find the SD on the computer.6.Ive also tried downloading a camera app from market but they all just FC's.ETC,ETC,ETC.So there you have it after all that still no SD CARD found and the camera app still crashing.I would give up and say that its a HARDWARE problem but Ive had something like this happen before with my Nexus One and somebody flashed some camera thing on it and it worked again. Her P970 is not rooted or anything like that btw. Thanks again
Well, I think it's time for LG's repairservice.
If you haved played with the rom her a method to go back to an unrooted stock ROM, due you mentioned Smarttool, and this isn't a program for consumer purpose from LG. Aniway it may help:
Flash tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18946763&postcount=1
and Here the stock firmwares: http://lg-phone-firmware.com/index.php?id_mod=1
Regards.
Thank you very much for the response.......Ive tried both of the links but unfortunantly theyre dead links.......Also I forgot to mention that I am new to Root/Flash techniques so not so good.Using the Smartflash tool has been the only thing ive ever used............But I have a question?Do you think ROOTING and maybe putting a different Rom may solve the problem?Maybe CyanogenMod idk? Thanks in advance......And would you have a good link to view "ROOTING FOR DUMMIES"because I wouldnt know the first thing to do with a ROM.Thanks
Link updated!
I definitely don’t recommend to play with rooted roms with devices with hardware problems.
What I have linked is a tool to bring the device to stock conditions and so bring it to the service without trouble. You have said you have used Smartflashtool, this may have flashed some unofficial stuff which erase your guarantee claims.
Be aware that you do this things on your own risk!
nothing to do?

someone really solved this problem? Is frustrating 'cause i can not use my card at all, my camera don't work and some days it freezes 20 times, I must to take out the battery and it freezes again after 2 minutes.. I tried flashing it, restore factory settings, not installing nothing, updating os, but it's getting worst. I am out of warranty.. I think I will crash it with a hammer.
