HELP / HELP !!
This is due to broken EFS
If you have EFS backup, restore it.
Otherwise Reflash GB ROM, someone reported it worked by flashing GB ROM with wipe cache and data.

Thanks, Ketan,
I don't have EFs backup,,,
But when I read some other articles, it says the lost of EFS will have some symptoms , ie: IMEI gone (I can check my IMEI by "*#06#"), no signal (I am OK to make/receive the call)... etc, it seems I may not have EFS issue ??
Also, I did try to downgrade to V4.0.3 when I encountered the issue on V4.0.4, everything is fine
At first I thought there is something wrong with the V4.0.4 ROM (my first upgrade was from Kies directly), so I manually download the ROM (actually I've compared the ROM from Kies and the one I downloaded, they are identical),,,anyway, I used Odin to upgrade again, and the problem comes up again..
that is to say, with V4.0.3, the phone has no any issues, with V4.0.4, the only issue is the annoying H/W info box shown on the 7 main screens....
Any more ideas or detail instruction would be very much appreciated ...
As i said its just broken efs, where still you dont lose imei. But you can try this
Downgrade to lower version where there is no issue, take efs backup.
Then update to newer version and restore backup when issue appear back.

am getting annoyed by another problem. The WiFi switches off automatically and gets connected when i touch the screen..
This is annoying me as all the updates happen while the display is off and it is getting those using 3G and not the WiFi...
Is it just me ?
I did not install any app after the upgrade form 4.0.3 to 4.0.4
Just go to.setting - wifi -advance - keep wifi on during sleep - Change to 'always.'
Then wifi.wont.auto off.

cool.. almost forgot that .. How the Heck did it change to Never.. does the update change the settings ??
One more thing .. now my Apex launcher restarts everytime .. i remember there was a place where we can change the no.of apps running in the background .. Can you tell me where this is ?
You mean
Setting -development -restrict number of background process?

Hello, Ketan,
I followed your suggestion to downgrade to V4.0.3, of course, it is problem free menaing no annoying box shown on main screen
Then I root to install HC-Ktool and backup efs
and then unroot and upgrade to V4.0.4 again, the annoying box come up ...
Then I root again to run HC-Ktool and restore EFS, and restart
without luck ,,, the annoying box is still there,.,,, any thoughts ?

I read some other user's experience on S2 too. But sorry nothing found that works 100%,
It not happens to everyone, so may be it should have relation with previous ROM(even on OTA update it can happen). May be just try to downgrade to GB ROM, root it , wipe cache, data, delvic cache, and use Mobile odin to update 4.0.4. Thouh this is just speculation on basis of clean install. I dont have review that this will work.

I used PC Odlin to flash the PDA only, the ROM was official ROM from http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-N7000.
note that I upgraded the version through Kies firstly, previously I was on V4.0.3 official rom (rooted) - without this issue
the issue was appeared after the official (kies) 4.0.4 upgrade
I tried to downgrade to V4.0.3 (obtain the ROM from the link said above), the problem gone ...
then I upgrade to V4.0.4 again (as mentioned in my last note, EFS is not a matter here) - problem back again
during several trials, I aslo tried to reset the phone, (try on double wipe as well al reset to syatem default from system setting menu) and redo all those steps, but still unlucky .. None of any actions can help ...
btw : I read other articals saying to refresh kernal and double wipe ,,, no help as well ...
it drives me crazy ...

I had talk with samsung service centre guy(who is really noob, and owner sending his device to me to root ), he said he had email regarding this. I am planning to go to SSC to read mail what exactly he got information, really here in my town very small service centre. he couldn't even find out what set of instruction exactly there on mail
Lets see if anything special. This is likely ROM bug, b'coz some one who have updated from OTA, also get this.

Hi guys,
My phone has been working great until today. for some reason now when I install a new app, if it is forced close or if I reboot the phone, I lose all the setting for the apps. It only happens to new apps, the one installed before today are (so far) keeping the settings.
Has this ever happened to anyone? Please help. I know some of you might suggest a factory reset, but unless somebody had this problem and reset helped with it, I will hold off on that because if it ends up not working I will be left with all my apps losing their settings all the time.
I am on I9000T on stock Froyo 2.2.1 if that can help.
Anyone? Please I really need help on this one. This has to have happened to somebody here?
Problem with the firmware.!!
I think that there must be a problem with the Firmware .. Try updating your phone via kies or Flashing Gingerbread using ODIN..

Before this, you could try and do a factory reset and see if the problem persists! If it does, then reflash with Odin! Good Luck!
Thanks for replying guys. I have a question: if it is a file system problem, will a firmware update or factory reset help?
Also, I have had this firmware for almost a year now, why would have I a problem with it now, I am not rooted and I have attempted (yet) anything with flashing.
If ur phone has a file-system error Reflashing or factory resetting ur phone will help 4 sure as the files will be cleaned up and installed again..u phone may have dis problem due to any virus... u need to root ur phone 1st then flash gb

I have also had this problem come up on my phone. The phone just crashed on a Sat night and on reboot the software looked like I had taken it out the box brand new. Lucky I had Titanium Backup and restored everything.
Only thing then is that the vast majority of apps don't remember settings and on a start of the app it's in 'first time' mode.
Did a ROM flash using ODIN and default ROM (search this forum for instructions and software if you need it) and this fixed it properly - 12 hours in and no issues.
Credits to Titanium Backup here - like insurance you only know if it's any good when you actually need it.

Introduction
Welcome to the Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Help Thread. The purpose of this thread is to gather all relevant information into one area, avoiding clutter of the Q&A section.
This thread was started by @azzledazzle, and kept alive by the good grace of @ThaiDai. It has now been reworked to reflect the current status of the device, with a FAQ completely redone from scratch.
I did add noob friendly again to the title, with the following statement in consideration:
Asking questions without first reading the this post and the FAQ will get you shunned and/or ignored.
Before posting for assistance, you are asked to first read the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) below, and do Search of the forum using the XDA search feature. As far as I am concerned, there are no stupid questions. However, with this statement in mind, XDA is a development community that requires you attempt to search and find your answer before posting.
NO BEST ROM OR KERNEL QUESTIONS IN THIS THREAD.
WARNING:
The Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 can be hardware bricked by various things you might do, because most devices have a faulty chip (called eMMC) inside. This leads to the possibility to kill your device with some commands used in the recovery mechanisms. As such, it is imperative that you act with the utmost care before flashing any custom ROMs or attempting to obtain Root Access.
To ensure you do not destroy your expensive device, please follow the warnings in the sticky threads, read the introductions of each Custom ROM, and follow these general guidelines:
Never do a factory reset on stock ICS ROM (4.0.4) (Click here for more information).
Never use the cwm.zip, i.e., called temporary recovery which still is shared on some websites (Click here for more information).
Always use safe kernels for recovery activities (Click here for more information).

FAQ: SIM Unlocking and Device Tools
Q: Is there an all-in-one thread with tools for our device?
Yes and no. There is a great toolbox thread Found Here, but many parts of it are outdated.
Q: I installed custom ROM firmware, and now I have a "Yellow Triangle". Can I remove it?
A: Yes. There are two options: (1) use Triangle Away by @Chainfire (free on XDA) if you are able to boot into a ROM; or (2) Use the USB Jig Method (LINK)
Q: My device is SIM Locked, or became locked after flashing a new ROM firmware.
A: Download Galaxy S Unlock from the Play Store
Q: What is my EFS and should I back it up?
A: The EFS stores your IMEI and other information. It is crucial to back it up, as it is extremely difficult to recover if lost during a custom ROM flash. Backup your EFS (using kTool)

FAQ: Hardware and Connectivity Issues
Q: I am getting poor reception and/or data timeouts; can anything be done?
A: you can try flashing a different modem (baseband) from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25890442
Q: I am getting NO reception, help!
A: MARKER - bad IMEI or wrong network
Q: I am getting cellular reception but my data doesn't work, how can I fix this?
A: MARKER - bad APN
Q: I am getting poor battery life, and/or my screen flickers; what can I do?
A: there are two possible scenarios:
(1) You have kernel wake locks caused by a "rogue app", which can be addressed in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31352080
(2) If your battery is over a year old, it probably needs to be replaced. This is especially evident if your screen flickers when the battery is low, and/or the battery itself is actually bulging. Many people are satisfied with the Anker brand batteries sold on Amazon.com.
Q: Why is my phone NOT CHARGING properly, and why does wiggling the cable make it charge?
A: There are two potential problems:
(1) You need to clean your USB socket. Please look at this thread for more information: MARKER
(2) You need to replace your DC-In board. Please look at this thread for more information: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45319225
Q: Oh no! I BROKE MY SCREEN! What can I do?
Please view this thread for more information: MARKER
Q: I keep running out of storage, even though I have erased everything - what can I do?
A: often things are lurking around, such as in LOST+FOUND. Install DiskUsage and determine where all the space is being used.

1. Reviews will be inside the ROMs thread, some ROMs have video reviews in the OP, so that would be a good place to check, see what the users have to say.
2. What do you mean by OTA update ? Do you mean official Samsung OTA, Or has Criskelo tweaked the OTA to update his ROM versions? Anyway, You shouldnt use stock OTA's on Custom ROMs, If Criskelo has tweaked the OTA to update his ROMs then it should work, Thats something only he will know.
3. Stock OTA's *can* remove root, Just simply re-root if that is the case (tip: SuperUser has an OTA survival mode - Experimental)
4. Pop up play app - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1686165&highlight=pop+up+play

It *Can* be done, But it has mixed reviews, Theres a lot of risk involved and ODIN is not official for Mac, Only Modified.
For mac users, Heimdall seems to be the safest way. So i would suggest to learn and use that (or get a windows PC ) to avoid the risk of bricking your Note

Actually when I installed criskelo ROM v9 the initial set up wanted me to opt for OTA update. I was surprised for this didn't happen for v7 , v8 so i wanted to know whats the fuss. Some at the criskelo development thread made it crystal clear that stock ROM will not get OTA update.
Thank you
This question has probably been asked a thousand times in this section, but it would be good to have 1 Correct answer on this.
Since the Note has the eMMC Brick Bug on the Stock ICS kernel, how does one Successfully flash a Custom ROM using CWM without a chance of Superbricking the device?
And also some clarification an why you should flash Abyss 4.2 lernel before performing a full wipe.

To flash a Custom ROM (and avoid BrickBug) you must first flash a safe kernel, You can do this either in CWM or ODIN, People recommend Abyss kernel because it is / was popular and known to be safe, However most kernels now are safe, But make sure you check before hand.
I always use speedmod or any Kernel derived from Speedmod.
If you have CWM already, Download a Safe Kernel (CWM Version) place it on your SD card and reboot to CWM Recovery and install it.
If you prefer ODIN, Download the Kernel (ODIN Version) Open up ODIN, Find the Kernel in PDA section, Connect phone in Download Mode and hit start.
You can also use Mobile ODIN too.
Hope this helps
Inspire to Note noob
Ok...I used to switch roms on a daily basis on the Inspire/Desire platform. Now I've had my Note GT-N7000 for months now and I've REALLY been itching to get the latest ICS since I'm still on stock 2.3.6. My CSC is KK2 (TPA) from 1saleaday.com. I live in the US...not Panama...so I'm thinking that there's a fat chance of me getting the ICS update OTA. Is that a fair assumption? If not...I can possibly wait for another week or so. I've been checking Kies on a daily basis...no update for me. Is there a noob friendly guide that can show me step by step how to get the latest stock ICS by rooting? I've read Dr. Ketan's post...kinda confusing. I don't want to lay a brick. Is there a way I can install the stock Germany rom and change my CSC to Germany or something and be able to receive the update on Kies to make sure I don't foul it up? I'm pretty afraid that I'm going to forget...and accidentally restore to factory settings or something when JB comes out and have a brick.
It's possible to use the German version, since they have android 4.0.4 already, you may need to flash a different radio too, It depends if you want to stay stock or not.
If you download the required odin firmware along with odin itself, then place the file in PDA section, if the firmware comes in 3 files then add them to their respective sections, such as phone, pda, csc.
You may be able to get csc from a firmware for your region and replace the German one with it.
Then put phone in download mode, connect to pc and hit start.
I'd also advise you to flash a safe kernel straight after the firmware to make full wipes safe.
If you flash speedmod kernel you will be rooted with Cwm and safe from brick bug, then the choice is yours whether to stay stock or move onto something custom

Hello there, hope you are having a nice day
hope this is not a wrong place to ask..
i have got two questions.
1)I'm actually on stock ICS 4.0.4 rooted and im planning to venture into custom ROM world to be precise the CM9 ones, please guide or point me through.
(Why CM9 you may ask it is related with Question 2.)
2)I'm having idea of connecting a USB Webcam into my note, this feature will be very very useful in my work. Please guide me on this..
( i have done a lot of googling, the nearest i can get was this https://bitbucket.org/neuralassembly/simplewebcam/overview, being a super noob myself im actually lost on this. But im not giving up.

1, To flash a CM9 Based ROM you will need to revert back to GB - So grab a stock GB firmware (links on FAQ section, 2nd post) Flash it via Odin, then flash a kernel (abyss / Speedmod) do full wipe, then flash the CM9 ROM in recovery.
2. Im not sure how that would work, I did recall someone else trying to do this (maybe it was you?) as the webcam would require some sort of power supply and i dont think the phone is capable of that. Anyway, Cant you just use the FFC instead ? I know its not perfect but its better than carrying an already big phone around with a big webcam attached to it lol. (people will think your a Martian from another planet)
I hope I may post my question concerning bricked or not here. If not, please be nice to me
I was on ICS LQ2, Goatrip Custom ROM with Goku Kernel. Yesterday I tried to flash GB before flashing a different custom ROM (didn't come that far).
I tried to flash the KK9 Stock GB ROM from the Stock Thread here (one file .tar.md5, Repartition _un_ticked). Flash stopped at several percent flashing factoryfs and nothing happend anymore. I pulled battery and tried again, no success. Now battery ran out and the Note is not charging as the only thing it say is "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue...". I cannot enter recovery, nor download modus as battery is low (download should work with charged battery). I am buying an external charging station later the day to revive the battery.
Is there a chance I bricked the device or is it just a bad flash (why?) which can be solved with a new flash? What do you say? I thought I cannot brick it with Odin, just by doing a factory reset in recovery with an unsafe kernel?
Your welcome to ask any question you like here This is why i created it.
You can brick with ODIN, you run the risk of damage by making any modifications, Usually getting stuck on Factoryfs is not a good sign - but we cannot confirm you have a brick until your battery is charged.
When you get the battery, report back and let me know if you can get into Download mode, If you can, We can fix this
You shouldnt have encountered any issues with a GB firmware, Did you have the Firmware in the correct section of ODIN ? along with NO pit, NO repartition ?
Well I should have put it into the right section in Odin, as it was not my first time I used Odin and normally I check at least twice that everything is alright. I am absolute sure about NO pit and NO repartition. BTW: this goatrip custom ROM used a pit as I flashed it previously. Does this maybe cause the trouble?
I already downloaded a pre-rooted GB from here, three parts this time and I will give it a try this evening. My hopes for download mode are good, as pressing Vol-Down resultings in the "can't download, bat low" message, but I will see later.
Thanks for your help, I hope I will get it running again.
Well the phone IS responding to download mode so that is good news. However using pit files with out repartitioning is not something you want to make a habit of.
Theres a chance that could have caused some issues, If you do use pit files you should tick the re-partition box, But also be sure that you are using the correct pit files, i.e 16gb / 32gb
You should be ok to flash a full stock GB firmware, 9 out of 10 times it fixes everything So make sure to report back and let us know
Good luck :good:
This thread is for the support of CM10 JB release by CyanogenMod.
This is NOT an official CyanogenMod thread, and isn't officially supported by CyanogenMod or Teamhacksung.
This thread is designed to help keep the dev thread clean and clear for the dev's to do their magic. So please feel free to ask any questions about the ROM.
The main CyanogenMod CM10 nightlies ROM thread is HERE.
Give the ROM thread and this one a good read before you post, you may find the answer is already available. Keep in mind that each device may behave slightly different, so a good solution for one user, can't be useless for another.
People have found different ways to successfully install, and it works for them, but their method may not work for everyone. So it is highly suggested to follow the method recommended by the developers.
This is copied directly from the dev OP:
Installation
- First time flashing CM10 to your Captivate (or coming from another ROM)?
Root your device and install ClockworkMod Recovery.
Reboot into Recovery using 3-button-combo
Do a Nandroid backup!
WIPE (wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition)
Install the ROM from internal sdcard using ClockworkMod Recovery
Optionally install the Google Addon
- Upgrading from CM7/CM9?
Do a Nandroid Backup!

Optionally install the Google Addon
Note: Nandroids of CM7, CM9 and CM10 are incompatible due to partition layout changes. Please be on the correct version before restoring Nandroids.
Reporting Bugs
You are allowed to report bugs only at the SGSCM10 bug tracker. Before reporting a bug, please make sure you are running as stock as possible. This means no custom kernel, no custom framework modification, etc. If you are using any of the above modifications, please flash the rom again to get rid of the modifications before reporting.
REPORT BUGS HERE: http://code.google.com/p/sgscm10/issues/list
Please check the list of issues before creating new issues.
Grab a logcat right after the problem has occurred. (Please include at least a few pages of the log, not just the last few lines, unless you know what you're doing.)
If it is a random reboot, grab /proc/last_kmsg. (Do not bother getting a logcat unless you can get it just before the reboot. A logcat after a reboot is useless)
Remember to provide as much info as possible. The more info you provide, the more likely that the bug will be solved.

I also want to thank to pawitp who created the original CM10 nightlies post, and kangi26, who created the unnoficial Q&A page for CM9, where I took the idea to make this thread and this first post.
Since setting up my cap with CyanogenMod 10, I've noticed my phone app is hiding. I cant open it. It exists under Settings > Apps and also in titanium backup but not in the app drawer or behind the phone shortcut. Tried to do a search and found nothing. I remember this happened a long time ago and I believe I remedied it by flashing a new ROM. Is there another way to fix this?

I think a lot will depend on which Rom you came from first off. But for the most part, a re-flash will be in order
Full wipe (3 times preferably) and re-flash ROM .

Phone stuck on splash screen
I upgraded CM 9 to CM 10, which was successful. However, Nandroid restore failed (MD5 sum mismatch), and after the phone continues to be stuck on the splash screen. I'm able to get into download mode. What should I do now? I'm hesitant to do anything without guidance as I've hardbricked my phone before. If I should flash from stock, which stock ROM should I use, and is it with or without bootloader? Thanks!

Just flash a cm10 kernel and install a ROM from the recovery. It's completely pointless to go back to stock here.

I tried flashing the Devil kernel with Heimdall, but it failed and I get this now:

How do I proceed? Many thanks.
U could use a different usb port (because Heimdall drivers r installed on the one u already used) and get into download mode and try and flash the kernel through Odin.
Friendly fyi, a Nandroid backup can only be restored on the base where u made the backup. So if u made the backup on CM9 then u can only restore it there. and not on CM10, etc.

Astro File Manager Pro Crashes
I installed cm-10.1-20130416-EXPERIMENTAL-captivatemtd-M3 on my Samsung Caprivate i897. So far, everything except Astro File Manager Pro seem to be working okay.
Astro File Manager Pro launches okay, but as soon as I browse to a screen which should display any files or folders, the info flashes on the screen instantaneously, and the software crashes. It displays an "Opps!" screen, asking me to email data to the developer. I have emailed the info, and sent a separate email to them requesting help.
Has anyone else been experiencing this problem? Do yo have any suggestions on how to fix it?
Thanks,
Re file manager problem. Looks like latest version Astro is FCing fir some users.
Try Either use TiBU, or go into settings, apps, and clear all the data for Astro file manager. Reboot. See if that fixes it. If not, uninstall and then reinstall via Google Play.
If still no work, try the native file manager or X-plore app.

Hello right here,
Got an big issue on my GT-P1000 :crying:, hope i'll find help and answers around .
First of all, i'm french, so please apologize my english if it's not as good as i'd like to (and feel free to correct me if necessary, it'll help !)
So, i bought a few years ago a GT-P1000.
Trying to change the rom, the official one was too slow .
First of all, rooting, yet some problems : all the processes i followed told me it was OK, and when i ran Root Checker, it told me the opposite (not root access). After a few tries, i thought Root Checker was the probleme, so news step : CWM installation.
Nickel, all good.
Last step : download and install Cyanogen Mod 10.2 (Android 4.3) following this tuto : computechips (can post a link )
And the result is : the tab won't boot any more. I restored it, and same thing, stays sticked on the "samsung" welcome screen, no more movements.
I still can go to the Recovery Mode, but there are messages telling that no drive can be mounted :
Code:
E: unknown volume for path [/system]
E: Unable process volume ! skipping ..
Checking /data..
E: unknown volume for path [/data]
E: unknown volume for path [/data]
E: Unable process volume ! skipping ..
Checking /cache..
E: unknown volume for path [/cache]

Done !
And so on ..
Any idea on this issue ?
Thx !
Oliv.

Install the SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_x86.exe
The Odin3 v1.7 is the Windows Software Flasher for all Samsung Devices.
There will be a number of different Folders each with a different "modem.bin" File in them. Unless you have a very specific version of the P1000 that requires such a unique modem.bin File (i.e. You have a CDMA Phablet). You should just use the standard JPZ (GSM) modem.bin version.
So after you have installed the USB Driver(s)
On your Phablet press the Volume Button DOWN + the Power Button till you see this Screen
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

}
Then start Odin3 v1.7 and connect your Phablet to your Computer
Pit -> gt-p1000_mr.pit
PDA -> GB_Stock_Safe_v5.tar
Phone -> modem.bin**
This should drop you back to v2.3.3. Gingerbread again.
Word of advice stick to only CM10 Builds! ALL CM10.1, AND CM10.2 BUILDS CONTAIN MASSIVE BUGS IN THEM, that kill off either the (Front) Camera, or the Bluetooth Radio Stack, or in most cases BOTH! Pretty much all of the CM10 Mods I've tried DO NOT have these problems and both the (Front) Camera, and Bluetooth are working.
**VERY IMPORTANT DO NOT FORGET TO ADD THIS FILE OR YOU WILL TRULLY SOFT-BRICK YOUR PHABLET!
If you do this I'm not sure if you can get back to the Download mode anymore or not. I think that I was able to on occasion though. in this case though just assume that you'll need the Heimdall One-Click Unbrick though.

It shouldn't matter, I think latter versions of Odin3 have more options in them that may confuse newer users, (i.e. Bootloaders) besides its not like you have to use the latest version to do this.
Needless to say you do NOT want to go f***ing round with the Bootloaders unless you have a way to recover. You can do almost anything you like to your Phablet. just DO NOT play with the Bootloader otherwise your "Soft-Brick" will instantly turn into a "Hard-Brick", and then you can go and find a JTAG Programer on Fleabay!
So your better off just sticking to Odin3 v1.7 for now.
Thx !

My advice is to just stick to the lastest CM10 Release 20130203
for now as this ROM if not, working @ 100%! then most certainly @ 99.9% as far as both the Camera and Bluetooth are concerned!
At this point we're better off waiting for KitKat ROMs then updated Jelly Baean Ones. AFAIK (And, TBH I'm just as new to this "Game"!), these Problems have been around as long as CM10.1, and CM10.2. i.e. for almost a whole Year now!
So I for One am not, holding my breath that this will be fixed soon-ish, at least not for CM's 10 .1 & .2...

I had a very hard time trying to flash something newer on my TAB, but finally I managed to have CM11 up and running. The latest nightlies now seem quite stable. I have created user profiles for my kids so as they cannot simply download any app and the device, uncluttered by games, is pretty fast now. It feels like a new tablet!

I'm very interested in this solution. Would you mind making me a little how-to, with the good links to DL all it needs ?
Every time i try, there's a corrupted file, or a missing (404) file on the list ...

Olivier.

Hi Olivier,
I do not volunteer to write a how-to. In fact, I cannot remember how I did it. I myself had LOTS of such difficulties, errors, missing files, there were even several hours while I thought I had bricked the device which was responding to anything... It took me nearly three days flashing, cursing and flashing, cursing and flashing and cursing.
But what I have found is that you need to go step by step, flashing one ROM after another until you find one which comes with a recovery compatible with CM... I vaguely remember that a key step was flashing the "Overcome ROM", which then let me great step further.
Sorry.
You have to flash CM 7, then CM9, and finally CM 10 or 11. Your choice. Just make sure you have the right recovery installed and CWM version. I would skip the gapps til the last version you flash. Follow the directions for each CM version on xda.

This is how i flash CM11..
Go to download mode
1) Restock using Overcome method..(via Odin) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1881981
-just the stock safe with my support modem..which is JPZ modem..no need to flash the Overcome Rom
-let it boot
Go to download mode again
2) Flash the Overcome Kernel..for root access and custom recovery..(via Odin)
-let it boot
(Step 1 and 2 is not necessary if you already using custom rom..but i like to do a clean flash..and if you still using the official firmware..step 1 and 2 is necessary..)
Go to Recovery
Do a clean wipe..(data,partition,dalvik,cache ect)
3) Flash CM10.2 for Kernel 3.0.x...(via custom recovery) Any CM10.2 With Kernel 3.0.X
-3x flash (first for CMW recovery..second for partition layout..third for CM10.2 Rom)
-let it boot
Go to Recovery
Do a clean wipe..(data,partition,dalvik,cache ect)
4) Flash the CM11..
5) Flash gapps..
6) Reboot
done..my p1 is running CM11..
and i did it without any problem..no crash or anything..
and i'm using storm31 CM1120131203..
with a few bug like front camera ect.(newer build already fix some of the bug)
or you can always go to the CM11 thread and read the OP for their instruction..
but always remember..
CREATE BACKUP
READ THE OP..and maybe a few comment first before you try to flash any rom..
just to make sure what are you going to experience..
i even read the whole thread before i start to flash any rom..
with that being said..
DO AT YOUR OWN RISK.. and Good Luck..:good:

Many, many flashes ago I lost my efs files, I know very noob move... I have read that this is most likely the cause, but I can't find much on the problem, my phone is otherwise usable but I feel like it lags and that's the only thing I might think is the culprit.
Whenever I flash Cyonagenmod LP rom, it runs smooth as butter, but for every TW based rom it lags like a MF...
Is there anyway of getting out of this mode, or since I lost my EFS folder, I'm now F*&×?
If u lost efs and didn't back up in twrp ur done.. Sorry

Thanks for answering guys, now which functionalities would be lost without the EFS?? Also what I don't get is why when I'm on LP bases Rom there are no issues...
As far as warranty is concerned, I'm not worried I have Jump coming up in a few months so I'll be moving on anyways.
Have you Odin'd to stock ank or anj + Factory reset?
Yes, I just did... I was on LP and Odin to stock, the message started coming up, then I rooted and flashed firekatv11x and still... I have had this issue since the first time I flashed a custom rom...
Yeah the same happened to me it shows factory mode on wifi is turning off ....efs folder empty but imei is showing up network is working too and etc... I've tried restore the efs with twrp but still empty even thou its says successfully restored .... in stock recover show failed to mount efs.... I've tried efs pro with samsung tools just to get out of factory mode but no success .... it is actually not a big deal its just lagging sooo much now when i type something i feel like throwing the phone through the window everything is lagging and so slow.... is there actually a solution to fix this or buying a new phone its perhaps the best thing to do I'm tired of this stuck for 4 days .....

From what I was told in the past. When u first root phone u should do a twrp of efs only. Save to a location that u won't touch. Next you should download a efs back up tool and make a back up and save it to pc just in case. Then flash away and you should not have to do a efs back up in twrp again.

Hi Mate, i have same problem. IN addition, s health freezes, fingerprint not working, lagging when typing, video freezing, wifi memory loss ( have to enter pass key after every reboot).
I guess the only solution now is to avoid stuck rom since LP based roms works flawlessly. Till official LP is out..

Yeah as far as I'm concerned we all have the same problem
You cant lose your efs just flashing roms.
Something else form the story is missing. Your efs just doesn't erase unless you accidentally deleted the folder...or you were trying to unlock and you did not back up your original efs first.
But no, trust me it doesn't work that way. You specifically have to back up the EFS for reasons. The only way to get the efs back is to use a similar efs. Which is not exactly a good idea.

Yeah well I thought the same maybe I didn't something I didn't realize but all I did was flashing a rom right after flashing all my carrier bloatwares changed to bloatwares from another carrier I thought it isnt a big deal csc code will do but not after many tries to get my csc code back still didn't work so I thought maybe because rogers (the carrier my phone is within) didn't had lollipop realesed back then its maybe that after couple days I realized the rom is slow lagging too much still didn't know about the problem… so I went back to stock trying again the csc code and then I realized something is wrong in recovery showed failed to mount efs so I did little research tried wipe out everything includes internal storage with twrp before that restoring my back up I did before I flashed the rom the weird ing is I can restore everything expect system data chaches and even after restoring efs the folder is empty… I thouth first my efs was corupted but in that case I would have blank imei no access to making calls or so but everything is working its just laggy wifi after reboot turns off guves this pop up notification about factory mode on and the empty efs folder with thaf failed to mount efs in stock recovery notice
I just lost the EFS and have no idea how, it had to be while flashing, I came from LG and HTC, never never had issues with flashing roms... i never had to back up EFS, as a matter of fact, i had no idea what it was before this whole problem... so I thought it would be the same process, just flash away....
In the beginning everything was all good, but then I flashed the unofficial LP rom, played around with it for a while... I couldn't deal with the heating problems, so decided to go back TW and that's when everything went haywire.
As soon as LP got picked up by CM I went to that, because the lag on TW is horrible I couldn't deal... now just this week I was like well let me try TW for better battery life...
But I'm about to go back to LP, I can't even watch a video without constant lag, can't go through a sentence without lag... horrible and the only thing I can think off that's causing it, is the freaking Factory Mode!!
Sorry for the long as post, but I see that many ppl are on the same boat... there has to be a way to fix it.
Ps. I'm on Firekat v11x so I know it's not the rom that causes the lag.

Unfortunately I have tried out almost everything expect the adb shell over writing of mmcblk0p3 or 1 not sure now which one is it but 4 some resone I was unable to get it run… so I might keep trying make it work and if that wont fix it I think its worthless to try anything else… because whatevery you try I think I already tried it but still a little help would be great
Flash back to a stockish rom and exchange with Samsung.
Or
Odin to stock + Factory reset and exchange with Samsung.
Ok Ill take my post back...this happened with my Sprint S2 coming from CM9 and going back to stock android. With the Sprint S2 there was the eeprom issue with the bug inside the Exynos processor (been a while) and it messes up the efs and eeprom and now it's dead. TW performance varies, however I have gotten over stock android since I occasionally get my hands on a nexus device to run. since I have had my Note 2 I just stick with TW roms. It's just lately in my line of work I get a lot of people who mess up their efs trying to unlock or fix imei problems. Pleas forgive my rashness.
No EFS Folder
Hi
I had the same issue with my note 3. You just lose wifi. That was the only noticeable thing which wouldnt work. But my note 3 used to work on some AOSP roms (Wifi too).. Try loading an AOSP rom and see if that helps with the wifi.
There are online postsdetailing the steps to repair this (for Note 3) . Never worked for me, but a lot of people replied it worked for them. I also saw an online repair service which would fix that for 60 bucks

I have lost EFS just by flashing. It can happen when going from AOSP to TW if you don't get a good clean wipe, or if either of the ROMs was not compiled correctly, or if you get a bad download.
Has anyone tried using Kies. When this happened on my Note 2 there was an "emergency recovery" feture in Kies that allowed you to restore the stock firmware. If you can't do it in Kies youself I believe the Samsung rep at Best Buy should be able to Emergency recover your device. It basically flashes it back to the stock software that came on it when it was built.

Fixed my Note 2 no problem. I had to re-root it and do some ODIN flashing to get it back to the firmware I wanted but it fixed the phone.
Also just curious, in TWRP it defaults to making a backup of your EFS when you backup your ROM, Is there a reason why you would have unchecked that box. You should ALWAYS keep a backup of the stock ROM or a minimal the EFS from it.
