I really liked the idea of using the Nexus 7 as a Satnav in the car, as the screen makes everything much easier to read than on my Galaxy Nexus. I know that you are able to use Google Navigation on the Nexus 7 if you tether to a 3G device (or MiFi) or as long as you setup your trip before leaving while you have WiFi. It just seemed a little limiting though (but yes, I did only pay £199 for the deice so i am not complaining).
I decided to purchase Co-Pilot from Play Store (I tried a bunch, and I just liked the way Co-Pilot looks / feels / works - to me it seems the closest to my trusty Garmin Satnav (which I recenly sold) ). I have used it quite a bit on my Galaxy Nexus and it works great, so I ran it on my Nexus 7 and it works just as great and looks amazing with the 7 inch screen.
What I like -
- Volume of the voice prompts is fine (much louder than Galaxy Nexus)
- Navigation algorithms seem to be on par with Garmin / Google
- Traffic rerouting is pretty good
- Alternative routes and detours are possible
- Rerouting (when I take a wrong turn or think I know better than the Satnav) is quick
- Maps are up to date and graphics are clear
- auto rotates very nicely
What I don't like -
- Nothing so far
I decided against getting a dash / windscreen mount for the Nexus 7, as I found by luck that the Nexus 7, in its case, fits perfectly on the center console in my car, at exactly the right angle for me to not get glare / reflection. The only issue with this location is it is right under the cup holder in the car, so if I have a REALLY cold drink, or leaky coffee cup in there, it could drip condensation onto the Nexus 7.
I've included some shots of the Nexus 7 doing it's navigation thing in the car this morning.

Interesting.
So from your screenshots, I assume this is without an active data connection (WiFi via tether or hotspot)? And the navigation is responsive using the GPS alone?
Doesn't Google Maps allow you cache map regions locally? Are the benefits over that the convenience of not having to or not being limited by it?
should work fine... Other than the fact if you put too much trust in CoPilot, you'll end up in Egypt but you were wanting to go to London.
If you go read their forums, you'll see folks complaining every day about really odd routing, old maps, etc.

Correct. Co-pilot does not need an internet connection, as all mapes are stored locally on device and navigation is calculated on device. If you use the Traffic Updates option in Co-pilot, then you need an active data connection to get traffic updates.
Google maps lets you download some maps to the device, but those can only be used in Google Maps and are not used by Google Navigation. Apparently, Google Navigation downloads all the stuff it needs when you setup the trip, and only needs data connection if you go off course, or need to reroute.

Hi,
I have been using BAF GPS Toggle for a few weeks now and it works great.
I am also using the HTC Touch Pro (see signature) which has VGA
Resolution: 480x640
Colours: 65536
The button/icon is small and the Today space is about half the space of other Today plugins/features. Thus I need my stylus to turn it on or off. The fonts are however regular size and thus cut off halfway by the size of the plugin. This means I am sometimes guessing... is that 1 satelite or 7... I'm sorry, I don't have the ability to do a screenshot as I am travelling. I suspect the issue could be solved if the (status) icon is larger for this kind of screen size. (guessing)
(Note I believe the HTC Touch HD has XVGA and its GPS performance could certainly use this plugin as I understand from their owners)
Performance:
Great! (I am using original ROM and Radio, see signature) It picks up satelites almost immediately and this overcomes the slow searching and fixing that other programs use. I've used a few GPS programs to test them out. Both regular car GPS software like Tom Tom and my favourite Route66 as well as off-road software like GPS Tuner... It works great with all and I would advice this clean (low memory) software to any HTC Touch Pro user... (even with the small sized Today plugin as it is)
www.baf.cc developed this and says he has no time to update a fix soon. Is there another way for us (HTC Touch Pro users) to fix this ourselves?
Anyone has a fix/suggestion?
Thanks,
How to adjust today screen to fit GPS Toggle program? (or reverse)
Hi there,
(note: After install, first use gives error 21 and won't activate. After it will work as it should, HTC Touch Pro)
Listen, Robert Ferris created a great little tool. I really use it all the time. However, as you can see in my screenshot it does not go well with VGA visually. It is really difficult to open and start with a stylus as the space is very limited and often I open an adjoining program/function....
As Robert seems to be busy I think it is up to us to make the necessarey adjustments. If I want to do that,... Where do I need to make adjustments, how can I change the today line to fit the text? Where are the images, so I can increase their sizes? And would that do it?
Not only would it make a solution, but it would be fun to learn to do this myself as well.

By the way, I am leaving China for Australia and am not sure how often and how quick I will have access to internet. So if I don't reply immediately you know why.
Thanks for your advice!
Does anyone know of a GPS toggle app for WM, that is not a Today Screen item like this one, but a simple executable file?
I would like to know this as well.
try spacer
use this to stop activating other plugins
Simple blank plugin to allow spacing other plugins on the Today Screen

This is my first post, so sorry if I haven't put this in the right place!
I've been trying to get hold of the Tracker program from Sony Ericsson for my X1. I've found it on their website at www.sonyericsson.com/fun under the software link, but not for the X1. I've emailed Sony Ericsson asking whether it will ever be released and have been told in the usual manner that basically "No."!
So on to my point. Do any mightily clever people feel like giving this one a go? I really wanted to use it to take a look at my running route and analyse my progress, but it doesn't work!
Thanks in advance.
use GWatch, it's free and it's a stopwatch as well. you can also upload the gps coordinates from it onto google maps to show your route
http://www.ageye.de/index.php?s=gwatch/about
SportyPal seem to be WM's way of Symbian's Tracker
Thanks guys I'll give them a go. Sony Ericsson's Tracker has a really nice interface, but I guess as long as the other two do the same thing I'll be happy!
I use trackypro ...

I'm useing Sprtypal, mostly for cycling, some running and rollerbladeing. It is easy of use and nice clean design. Except tracking there is analyzeing. I did this workout minutes ago:

I have been using sportypal for some time now, it is really excellent stuff, that can help you with your running or cycling, especially when you are withoit a gps device.
I use the 'on the road' panel & GPS Cycle Computer >> http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-gps-cycle-computer-v3.html GCC is a little awkward as you have to create the maps via Google Earth, but the author has good instructions on how to do it.
I have G-Watch too, but haven't used it for anythign other than a countdown timer and a stop watch.
is the g watch free of charge??? or just trial version???

G-Watch is a freebie.
G-Alarm isn't
I have tried the cycle computer, but I couldn't get him running on my xperia, sometimes it turn on only with showing half of the screen, sometimes doesn't even run properly .
For now the sportypal is fine for me. ,

i use sportypal, too. i have a lot of trouble recording tracks properly on my X1 (r3a-spb mobile shell3). a lot of GPS errors, half recorded tracks. the support is eager to help..but until now the results are far from satisfying..maybe it is a individual problem of my setup. i don't have any hassle running other GPS apps like tomtom, etc.
clueless..
i installed the new version of sportypal..now it works as expected. great app.
a better battery life would be great...gps consumes a lot of power.
On the newest version 1.0.6 it has its own screen management program, that is saving on the power on the screen->and this gives some better batery life.
This is a quick guide to show you how you can launch Google's Car home app and navigation instead of HTC's horizontally challenged car panel. While its simple enough to setup car home is not available on the market place for the DHD.
First install Google's car home app
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17102005/com.google.android.carhome-1.apk
Open car panel from you apps or launch it from your HTC Locations Widget

Now choose Google's Car home
Enjoy
What launcher are you using? I quite like your homescreen and notification bar.
I presume DHD=Desire HD. I've got a Desire running 2.2 w/ Sense and I can't find/don't seem to have this My Locations/Car Panel app/widget.
-also, noticed you're from NZ, goodonya.
Very nice tip!!!
Now I can switch to another gps software on the panel and it can be in landscape!!!
I'm running Revolution HD by Mike1986 with Vistagamer's theme Desolution and couldn't be happier, Girlfriend wasn't so impressed with the background though
Edit: Yes DHD = Desire HD
And I found out a guy who posted the last version of CarHome, v2.2.1.4
http://www.mediafire.com/?8fkv48e9lpvx8d8
I already install it and it works fine
thanx for this !
very nice

Hello Can you update links?
I wanted to share this universal bluetooth keyboard with stand I found..
When I had my N7, I liked the available keyboard "dock" accessories that were available for it. Sure, it was 3rd party and nothing like the attachment of the Asus tabs, but it worked nicely--and wasn't combined with a thick leather case.
I wanted to go thin TPU case, and I am using a Tucano iPad bag to store it in.
I was looking for a N10 and keyboard with a stand. I found the Minisuit Universal Bluetooth Keyboard (available from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1389517282&pf_rd_i=507846 and eBay).
It works very nicely with the N10. The N10 is slightly longer, but fits in to the stand perfectly. I can use this my lap or in bed. Here are some pics of it with the N10--excuse any dog in the background or screen reflections--she decided it was the perfect time to play.
It fits perfectly in the iPad pocket, and the N10 fits perfectly in the accessory pocket of the Tucano BMTIP bag. The charger and cables fit perfectly in the smaller pocket. I'm pleased with the combination.

What are the key functions like? Does everything work as expected, despite it being designed for iOS? Are there certain keys that simply don't translate to Android?
Good question.
It has three modes you can choose from: Apple, Android and Windows.
All "standard" alpha/numeric/symbol keys work as expected.
At the top, you have the following keys, from left to right:
IM ON PUB AOKP BTW:
HOME - Works
POWER - Works
SETTINGS - Works
EMAIL - Works, goes to default e-mail (or lets you choose)
BACK - Works
SEARCH - Launches Google Now
BROWSER - DOES NOT SEEM TO WORK
REWIND - Does not work in Youtube WILL TEST MUSIC PLAYER
PLAY/PAUSE - Works in Youtube WILL TEST MUSIC PLAYER
FAST FORWARD - Does not work in Youtube WILL TEST MUSIC PLAYER
MUTE - DOES NOT SEEM TO WORK, I have Beats installed if that matters
VOLUME DOWN - Works
VOLUME UP - Works
Arrow Keys have FN buttons PAGE UP, PAGE DOWN, HOME AND END. All work, but note that in browser HOME and END bring you to the very top and very bottom of the screen, respectively. Have not tested the function in a document editor.
Final thoughts: The keys type nicely and straight (don't tilt). Like any small keyboard it takes some getting used to, especially if you're not used to chiclet style keys.
The top feels nice, aluminum...wrapped in a plastic bottom. Decent build quality. Works well with a TPU case. Feels like you can tilt the front up if you hit hard enough, but honestly you would have to push much harder on the screen than you should. So, unlesss you're really pissed off when you type, it should be fine.
How much does battery last on this product?
Seems to have fairly good reviews & a good discount right now
Minisuit claims 82 hours of straight usage. I have yet to recharge it after 20-30 hours worth of straight usage, so so far so good.
Sounds cool! Did you manage to make the "Browser" button to work as well ?
Thanks a lot
No, I have not. However, I have been on AOSP and AOKP with AOSP browser and never had the chance to test on a stock ROM with Chrome.
Smeech thanks for the heads up ,thorough review and pics.:good:
“Does Porsche offer Android Auto™?”Yes, Porsche announced a new version of its infotainment system PCM 6.0 standard on 2022 Porsche 911, Cayenne, Taycan, and Panamera models. It brings a new design with wireless Android Auto, revised user interface, Music integration, and an upgraded Track Precision app.

Wireless Android AutoThe core advantage of the PCM infotainment update is wireless Android Auto. Staying connected and having handsfree is important behind the wheel. There are no plans to update PCM 6.0 on Porsche 718, Cayman and Boxster. AA wireless Android Auto adapter provides wireless connection on Porches vehicles with existing PCM 6.0, but only wired Android Auto and for all Porsche model with no Android Auto in car but with CarPlay-compatible models.
Revised User InterfaceSay "Hey Porsche" actives the system easier to access several functions. These include news, climate control, the operating manual and in-car music streaming. The navigation system can now quickly update routes and tell the driver how much traffic are experiencing on certain roads to help reduce commute times.
Integration of MusicMusic integration allows drivers to access their Apple music, Spotify songs and podcast even without their phone in the car, as long as previous signed in Music account.
Track Precision AppThe app offers a unique range of functions and can now run through Apple CarPlay. It can record lap time using GPS data, look at speed, lateral acceleration, and braking force to help driving through data analysis.

This is an alpha release at best. I do see strong potential if they can improve the user experience and basic functionality promised.

Widely known that the knock off chinese origin adapters are poor quality.
If the OEM unit doesn't have the required features, best talk with the dealer or replace with a genuine Android auto device.
