Hi all!
Already a week from now I'm trying to find out why my SGS is waking up at nights. Battery drains too fast for sleeping time - 5-10%.
I've already switched off Google sync, uninstalled Gtalk and Google Search with TB. Also uninstalled Maps. Wi-fi, mobile data, Bluetooth, GPS, Google's Location Service are also switched off. "Use only 2G networks" is checked in mobile network settings. I don't have any updating widgets such as weather etc. Alarms are off. I don't know what else can I do...
Maybe it's all because I'm in roaming all the time? I hope it's not.
I'm on Cyanogenmod 9 RC2 with stock kernel and XXJW4 modem. A little bit earlier I've been on a nightly cm9 and Devil kernel - the same issue.
Here are screenshots of battery use:

Dump from BBS:
View attachment BetterBatteryStats-2012-08-11_104212876.txt
And um... I don't know why BBS shows that battery drain was 92%, it's really about 7%. NetworkStats is always #1 partial wakelock.
So I tried almost everything to force my phone sleep all the night but it didn't work. Someone help me to find out the solution!
P.S. I'm new to xda so I can't post yet in this thread. So I'll post it here.
Hey
have you tried a factory reset??
that should solve this problem..

No, didn't try yet. When I just installed cm9 RC2, I installed BBS only to monitor battery usage, especially by NetworkStats wakelock. It was ok, so I installed rest of necessary apps. And then, next night damn networkstats showed up again. And now I've uninstalled almost all apps which can be the reason, but nothing helped.
Btw, I'll try to do a factory reset and reinstall all apps that I have now in the phone. I have nothing to lose...
If wiping doesnt help
If wiping doesnt help you could try another ROM like slim ICS or you could upgrade to cm10 Hellybean ROM is pretty stable and if you enable IDLEv2 it seems to do pretty well for battery life
Nope, nothing helped. Did a wipe, installed some apps (bbs, tb and x-plore) and monitored battery for 4 hours. NetworkStats is #1.
Then I've uninstalled all apps (even bbs) and monitored battery for whole night. Same problem... Then installed bbs to find out which wakelock is it. Aaaand... it's... networkstats again...
So I'll try to install different roms.
Let us know what happens
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium
So, I tried different kernels (semaphore, devil) with this rom but problem remained. Tried CM10 with stock kernel and at first sight this wakelock has gone (it lasts about 2-3s as it should be). I'll test this rom for a few days more.
If your using cm10 I recommend hellybean it is a lot more stable and includes datadata partition which cm10 doesn't have

Thanks for information! But what about flashing another roms after hellybean? Does this datadata partition change anything about installing another rom via cwm? Or it's absolutely the same as other JB roms?
I don't know if it changes anything but if your worried try slim bean and use the app SD speed increase setting it to 2048 it seems to compensate for no datadata and is still very stable

The other option is to flash a DevilKernel which has datadata enabled.
Yes but then I have issues upgrading to a new slim bean and I figured he wouldn't want that

From the BBS screen I see that your phone drains 1%/h (10 hours and 10% battery down) - is it bad result? Because I don't get the point of the discussion...:-/

The point is to get rid of this wakelock. During search I found only 2 or 3 users who have this wakelock issue. And nobody knows certain solution.
Installed SlimICS. Battery usage is great but I really didn't like this rom because of little bugs and flaws. So I decided not to install SlimBean as it won't be more flawless than SlimICS.
Also, I've tried flashing HellyBean and didn't success. Flashed step by step after instructions, but after installation it stucks on bootscreen. Reflashing doesn't help.
I'll try now one good rom based on the latest cm10 alpha.

btw, problem is solved by flashing CM10 based rom. My phone probably is allergic to any CM9 rom

Hi. Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I have a similar problem. Only difference is I'm running CM10 (nightly 20121125), and my phone is awake "more" overnight...
Have attached snapshot to show what I mean.
I don't have any rogue apps (as far as I'm aware of)... All accounts and apps are set to "manual" to fetch data/refresh (I forget the correct word! LOL)
After reading another post, I've downloaded and running betterbatterystats. Hopefully that'll shed some light too...
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Huge Ups to Tim for CM7!
Ok did some testing to Gb MIUI. Here are some issues. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT try to log into your Google account through setup, IT WILL NOT WORK! Not with data or wifi. You need to sign in through settings, accounts and sync. Second is the capacitive backlights will not come on unless you tap the brightness toggle. They stay on till the screen is off, then same deal. There is an app on the market to do this automatically, its called Soft Buttons Light. Thirdly same issues as CM7 Usb Icon stays on, and external sd mounts to emmc. So no swap sd! Other than those minor issues the Rom runs smooth and things seem to be working.

Broken LED lights is FW related, I will decompile this later, Lewa shares the same issue.
LED light issue should be solved (thx Tim!) and speed and battery tweaks have been applied, everything should for real work so I'm going to go ahead and call this finished until CM7 gets updates (If ever)

Yep, It's currently fatally broken in this build in services.
Bump, replaced with a port of MIUI Life V5 from the Galaxy Ace folks, this can be used as a Daily Driver and does include the native MIUI Camera that can take HD photos as well as CM7s for compatibility reasons; It's also worth noting even though MIUI v3 is older It has the most customization options so things in the status bar like brightness slider must be set to 'manual' in system settings to enable it
Also the Google keyboard from 4.2 Is also on the market from Google

It is a huge problem until you know what you are doing. For some launchers and some apps killing is not recommended. Cause sometimes killing launchers will make you restart!
That's why in launcher settings u keep in memory or ignore in task killer. This will stop it. But from time tto time a refresh of your launcher is needed.

what governor are you using in cm10? im using smartass but sometimes i find it laggy. sometimes when opening apps a not responding window will appear and i have to choose between stop and wait.
bigbear, i noticed that many users cant get to work int2ext on cm10. i for one is one of them. made so many flashes. i dont know whats the problem but im sure i followed the instructions correctly. but i tried another script and i got it working. instead of using int2ext4, i use d2ext and everything is working. thanks for your roms!

I'll start that tomorrow then.
The main thing people don't do is after you flash the int2ext is wipe the sd-extra in mounts and storage as instructed. This causes most users to muck it up.
I wouldn't use d2ext as it wasn't designed for any cm rom. Its known to cause serious fc's.

Hi, first thing I want to to say thanks to all the developers of custom rom for salsa!
second, i would suggest to write the tutorial in this way:
Triple wipe x2
Flash the rom
Flash the INT2EXT4
Turn back and select "mounts and storage" category,Select "format /sd-ext"
Turn back and select "advance" category, Select "reboot recovery" (maybe isn't useful)
Flash the GAPPS
Click to collapse
the noobs will appreciate it
third, i got the boot loop problem using INT2EXT4 (both formatting and not formatting sd-ext). using INT2EXT instead, i got first boot in 10 minutes and everything works fine. fabolous rom, thank you guys!
So folks, its a little bit too late, i know, but i made a flashable zip of stock kernel from the China FW. It contains all the necessary modules, etc.. It contains all the necessary files that the tab falls to sleep after l2_hsic going crazy. This solve the unnecessarily high battery drain since Android 4.0.4 aka ICS was published by samsung. Is intended for those who have no desire to a custom kernel.
But notice this kernel is not overclockable, should work with any firmware and this requires root to flash the kernel.
PS: But this kernel is only for the 3G versions (GT-P7500/7501), why only the 3G models are equipped with the high battery drain.
What do I need?
- The kernel
- Root ->look here
-> Do you have ICS on it, point ranges 2 and 3
-> You still have Honeycomb on it, start from step 1
- a custom recovery -> for example here
- wherewithal basic knowledge -> Look at the forum or ask at Aunt Google.

- Of course only interesting if you are already using TWRP or CMW.

Flash through CWM / TWRP
You place the zip on the internal memory or external SD card.
- To boot into recovery, hold volume down when you restart
- Go to "install zip from sd card", depending on the type of recovery (CWM)
-> Or just install (in TWRP)
- look for the folder where you have placed the zip
- And flashes this now by clicking on yes in CMW or slide to the right with TWRP.
- Then reboot and kernel you got it.

From here. Choose your device folder and flash the tar via Odin with pda on your pc. If you are having a wifi device, the zip must be extracted before you flash it via odin. But i think you have a 3G device. Otherwise you dont be here in this thread.
Wow i forgot how much long the galaxy tab could hold on. I was on A1 and Yoda's kernel and was kinda used of charging my tablet every 2-3 days. But man, im glad i flashed stock, this is so smooth no need to overclock and it lasts way longer on my device. I doubled my battery life and it stays on for days almost weeks with daily use. Sad to say to developpers but stock is really amazing on ICS.
I really recommend giving stock kernel a second chance. Im blown away, thanks for posting this!

You do know that the wakelock issue is already fixed right? Now in almost every JB ROM(except for those no longer updates ones) no more l2_hsic wakelock. For ICS custom ROMs, use A1 kernel.

So what happened (and keeps happening):
Phone randomly boots whether I am on 3G or WiFi. Also, it boots when the phone is challenged to open a webpage, load an image or an app wants a bit more processing power. When it boots after the crash the battery hits 0! So it gets stuck in a boot loop because it thinks there is no battery juice left. The only way to successfully boot is to plug in the charger. So, I am royally screwed if when this happens outside.
I am currently running Slimkat 8.12.1 and I tried Maclaw's Carbon (20141119 release)...same problem! Is the battery dying one me? (My S3 Mini is 1 year old) If so, I will immediately buy one if this is gonna solve the problem. Because my phone right now is pretty much useless and super unstable.
PS: I also have super steep battery drain issue. I wake the phone to check an email and browse for a bit...and BLAM! it hits the bottom! see:

I have this phone for about 15 months and i'm on Slimkat (by Android-Andi) for 6 months with no problem with the battery until now. I suggest to replace your battery to fix the random reboots. After that a new clean install of the Slimkat (or the rom of your choice) can help. Now if you want to see what drains your battery install the BetterBatteryStats or the Wakelock Detector. The Greenify helps also after. I hope that all these can help you.

If it is not an app causing this, then if you are rooted, you will require a custom kernel compiled with the appropriate patch to fix. My own SkyHigh kernel has this fix, but will (currently) randomly reboot during call. Haven't yet the time or opportunity until end of this week to fix that though
thanks for reply

Yes, I have an idea, so hopefully something fixed not long after I return home end of this week. Stay tuned to my thread for any development update.

Pester?
I'd not use that word if you are not sure of your work. I feel sorry for your choice of words.
Don't need your fix please. Will reach to someone more generous.
Feel better from jet-lag. :good:

The dev already clearly stated he may have found a solution (which is great!) and he will get to it as soon as he gets back home. What more do you want
You are very ungrateful indeed...so yes, please do go somewhere else :victory:

Install Wakelock Detector to find out what's causing the battery drain.
It is very strange that your doesn't sleep. I test my device N920C if it sleeps. I charged my phone yesterday evening at 19:00 and let it untouched until today at almost 12:00! To my surprise the phone has lost only 4% (96%)!
Tapatalked with my Note 5
I have turn them all but it does not help
