google maps and phone lock - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello again
I was using google map.to check my posotion while driving and i find it pretty retarded that the phone still locks and screen switches off as usual.
I mean when u are using this app for direction it should prevent the phone from going to sleep mode
Any advice on how to have this feature?

If you use navigation then it won't auto off.

On iphone , anytime you open the map app it never lets ur phone goes to sleep, regardless of if you're using navigation or not.
I moved from iphone last week and I thought I would ask if this was possible on Android. Whats the harm in that ?
Thanks for nothing

My screen never turns off during Google Nav. Is your phone plugged in during this time?
When on battery the screen will dim to conserve battery life, and when plugged in its always on. At least for me, on any rom I have ever used.

yeah navigator is equivalent of car app. In android google maps is not, which is why different funct.

Don't listen to trolls we are crowded here of those.. Yeah in navigation it won't turn off
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium

In other words, if your using Google Maps it will turn the screen off after the user's preset display settings. If you use Google Navigation the screen will stay on.
Hope that helps a bit.

Well, doixanh made the ROM.
ALL he's doing is putting his name on the lockscreen which you'll only ever see for less than 3 seconds every time you use your phone.
Whats the point?
If your really that bad for it then use v01.
Its just one tiny thing in small writing in the corner saying that someone made that specific rom.
You obviously don't / didn't know what I meant by my earlier post.

Man... 1st post in the wrong section with bad grammar?
Simple solution:
1) Fine a nice flat brick (or stone) wall somewhere near where you live
2) Carefully hold your phone in your hand, then throw it as hard as you can against the wall
If done correctly, your phone will now be unlocked! If done incorrectly, simply try again until it works.
Take care and thanks for registering on XDA!

Its the standard preloaded on the phone right?
You could try to enter the incorrect password 5+ times.
Then there would be a 'forgot password' menu on the bottom.
It will ask for your gmail and password and then the phone password will be removed.
It worked for the pattern unlock though, dont know it'll work on the password unlock.
You could try it.

[POLL] How many feel having galax ace I Unlucky.

Yes,I very much feel having galaxy ace i,bcos galaxy Y has much better rom development than ace.Infact roms are ported from Y,though its a cheaper device than ace
Ace dosent have CM7 or CM10 stable but HTC explorer cheaper than ace has it.
Explorer can play HD games,temple runner 2 etc..Without cf3d.
Day by day its tooo booring to use ace,i wont get a new phone for almost 6years.Their are no good roms in here.I dont know who cursed ace nothing is happening Hoq many feel the same....
Sell your phone and buy the Y. If all your gonna do is moan and cry then get lost? Nobody has time for idiots like you.

Just use it, they are just phones. I won't change it" Now I hate this phone and probably I can't change my phone for about 4 years

The Ace-i (Or CooperVe) May be a piece of crap, but I'm glad to have it. What's the point in having a perfect phone? I prefer to have this crap phone and tweak it, improve and modify it. That's what it's all about. (To me.)
What is the point of creating a thread just to tell how bad Ace I is? Man, you know something? I'm glad to have Ace I. For example, if I had bought a S2, I would have downloaded Jb for it and I would be done. Now, I have a phone that I feel I can make it better. Everyday, we see this phone evolving bit by bit, making part of it or not. If I had a S2, I wouldn't know how to port, decompile, and many other things that Ace I allow us to do. See this big community that have Ace I, having bought it wrong or not, testing, theming, participating, being developers. I don't think Ace I is bad. We have better characteristics than Y. All that we lack is support from broadcom. Listen, if we get broadcom support, you'll see the best development that is out there.
Regards, mathm2013.

What about the idea of forming groups to give XDA members a heads-up on release?

Not sure if this is a good idea but you guy's can let me know.
1) Given that we have no idea when this phone will release and even if Google announces a date we would still not know exactly what time.
2) And the fact we may have a short window (15 minutes or so) for purchasing the phone before it goes out of stock.
Would you guy's like to join up in groups (say 5 people or so per group) exchange cell #'s through PM's and when the phone launches the first person in a group who notices texts the other members to give them a heads-up?
I would hate after waiting all this time to miss the launch by 15-30 minutes and get stuck waiting weeks for a restock.
I wrote a python application similar to this one of the Nexus 4 release:
pastebin.com/Ep1JSUTy
It will notify me if something seems to be available.

I searched "okay google everywhere" from the main search bar, went back to home, went to the search settings, and the options were there.
I'm sorry for not believing you lol but that's incredibly weird. Glad to have it though. Now my LG G Watch needs to arrive =P
Fer cryinoutloud it actually worked! Finally I can stop the cryin' and start a-talkin'!
Now if only someone would create a hack that lets us go back to using Hey Google instead.

You're very much welcome. I'm glad I could help despite the flack I'm getting and will continue to get as long as this thread is still open.

"Shakes head and rolls eyes" at what? I created this thread to help you guys who still haven't figured out how to force "OK Google Everywhere".
The least you could of did was thank me or skip over this thread. I don't need your negativity!

At what you said was a thread that would get closed. You admitted that it was a pointless thread and yet you didn't care.
There is already a thread for hot word detection.

I KNOW THIS THREAD WILL GET CLOSED BUT I CREATED IT TO BRING AWARENESS CAUSE I KNOW MOST WON'T REVISIT THE OTHER THREAD.
Type in " OK Google Everywhere" in the search app and then go to settings and you will now see the option.

Reading and UNDERSTANDING is key buddy. I said "I created this thread because most won't revisit the other thread".
I guarantee some people are going to glance at my thread because its human nature to be curious. Just like you glanced at my thread. Obviously I didn't create this thread for you. Thanks though.

As more and more people start getting access to this I'm sure Google will eventually give us an option to use other hotwords.

Normally I'd agree with your point, but here I think this thread has value - if perhaps for only a limited time. I've been reading the other thread religiously, but it -- like many threads lately, has become (understandably) heavily involved with operation on "L". It also branches off on many (valid) tangents on the subject - which is absolutely the point of the thread. However, easily lost in all that is this one simple tip that seems to resolve the one key, basic problem for those of us on KK who have the update & who are otherwise fully compliant and increasingly frustrated -- this gets it to work. So, for the sake of clarity & simplicity, I feel this is a perfectly reasonable & extremely valuable topic for the week or two... or three in which some number of us will be endlessly checking to see if we've finally had the feature flipped on. At the very least, the clarity of the thread title alerts members that some of us may actually need to "Force" it to work.
In other cases I'm not nearly so keen on breaking down subjects to such a granular level.

Go take a nap NaterTots, you're apparently grumpy. Despite what he wrote in the first post, this is a very helpful thread. The other thread didn't even have this solution, and goes about installing various APKs to get it working. In this case, you type 3 words into the app and it now works. Hugely nice.

That I kinda doubt. There was great flexibility in 4.4, but an early update (either KK or Search, can't recall which) cut us back to just OK Google. I suppose they wanted to limit chances of accidental triggers. With hotword everywhere I'd think they have even more of an incentive to keep this limitation in place. Ah well, it's no big deal but I can't help felling just a bit goofy reciting that script. :silly:
Nope no dice :crying:

You're right. My apologies.
I just wish my local government knew that certain rules were meant to be broken. ;-p

I did this on both my n5 and n4 earlier today(this morn), and only audio history and manage audio history shows up, not the other options. funny thing is, I did my coworkers phone as well, and all the options showed up for his phone

Are all devices on US English? Though hotword had been working on UK English for me I lose the new "Everywhere" feature if I switch away from US.

mine are. but its not country centered, and even read it'll work on 9 languages so far. but for me, the trick didn't work. probably because google didn't enable my account yet.

Lousy 'trick' will only work on after the device is actually enabled. As to country-centred that's why I expected it to still work on UK English. I had only changed to US English out of frustration as I was waiting & waiting for the feature to kick in. I'm not actually in the UK, but I do prefer her speaking voice.
This kind of messed up my voice search. It recognized "ok google" to open up the search but nothing else. I had to delete Search data to get it working properly again. =\
