It's like this. I money to buy a badass gaming computer, but instead I bought a PS3, Sony Bravia HX75 3D TV and some games. Seeing how nice PC games look maxed out and generally how laggy games are in the PS3, I regret buying it but it's far too late to do anything about that.
I thought "hey, PS3 games are optimized for it and will run smoothly and hassle free." Bull****. Most games I played lag and freeze. GTA IV lags worse than on my old craptop and I even tried logging out of PSN.
What to do? Is there the slightest comfort in this?
EDIT: I have the slim 320gb version and I play using discs and have turned off the image correction features on the tv to reduce input lag. The TV is 200hz in normal mode and 400hz in 3D mode.

If I had to guess I'd say it might have something to do with the fact that Blu-ray discs only play at 72hz.
I have never run into anything like that on my PS3 (the original 80gb fat model with PS2 compatibility).
I have had both, fat(sold) and slim(currently using), and the console freezes about one a month(due to scratchy disk, never happened with downloaded games)...

Is there something wrong with my PS3 or some setting I have changed? I've seen lots of people playing their slims using discs and playing on 40 to 50 inchers with 100hz+ and it plays fine? Or maybe they play from the drive?
What if I jailbreak the damned thing and make a full disc backup?

You can't. If your firmware is up to date (which it must be to log onto PSN) then you are unable to use GeoHotz unlock. Sony patched the vulnerability.

Ok, well fine then. How come almost all games lag so much? I mean, all it was ever designed to do was playing games, not rendering 3580x2600 3D movies while having Spotify and YouTube running. Surely, the cell processor and the 7900gt (or whatever GPU the PS3 runs) should be fine to play the games with the decent graphics?
Or are lazy developers to blame? I read the PS3 was harder to code for than the disgrace otherwise known as xBox 360?
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk 2
The PS3's ram is split up into like 6 cores (if I recall correctly) which is what makes it harder to code for.
As far as the lag I can't say exactly what it is. Are there any scratches on your discs? Is any game running properly? If every single game isn't working it might just be your PS3 having a defect.
Mine doesn't lag so its an isolated problem with your setup. Just chiming in to let you know that isn't normal for PS3.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I have a slim and fat ps3, when I use them allot they will freeze maybe every month or every other. But I don't lag, I have FAST internet. And I've never had lag playing offline.
As for the PS3 being harder to dev for, that's true, initially. But we are past the point of that really mattering now. The devs have had the console long enought to know what to do with it.
All my discs are only weeks old and therefore scratchless. Is there any comfort in the PS3 since I did have money for a PC?
Maybe there's some bad setting?

GTA IV - randomly all the time
Skyrim - same as GTA
I'm away from home and can't look through my games collection but this mainly goes for all games that feature a big open world and got a ton of stuff you can do. Linear games lag sometimes too but not as much.

Try deleting all game data from the hard drive and trying again.
This might explain why Skyrim lags.

Eh... I wouldn't say that. It's a good investment. You get a top of the line gaming PC and in two years you can't run the newest games well at all. These consoles came out SIX years ago. That is your money's worth, and I've had zero problems. I'll say it once again, you have an isolated problem. The problems you're getting aren't normal. They wouldn't release games that lag terribly because it's not like you can upgrade the hardware in the PS3.

Let's not turn this into a fanboy flame war. The OP can't do anything about his purchases now, so your comment adds nothing to the table. The PS3 has far extensive media playing capabilities and the online is free. The only plus I've seen for Xbox is that it "has a better online gaming community" which is completely opinionated.
You say the problem is isolated. What have you narrowed it down to? I guess I slightly overrated the lag issue. It lags though and more so than I find normal. Is there any possibility this could be anything else than a hardware fsult?
How does input lag show? When I'm home again, I'll hook it up to my brand new Acer monitor (100hz) and see how it plays. Somehow I suspect that this is some form of input lag.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk 2
It's an isolated issue as in it's isolated to your PS3. It's not something normal or even something that is a well known issue. I've never had it once in almost 5 years.
Try to troubleshoot it if you want but I recommend just saving yourself the stress and swapping it out for another PS3 from wherever you bought it from. If they won't work with you call Sony and find out what they can do for you.

I got out of gaming after my first PS died on me years ago. Soooo... I believe its time for me to get a gaming system. Any thoughts on which one people prefer. Microsoft did research and found the controllers to be more comfortable and fitting to natural finger techniques.
Also, the game engines show up a lot better.
Yeah, you pay for the online experience, but it's worth it. As a result of your payment, they invest a lot more in the online experience and content.
Plus, what games does PS3 have going for it? GT5 is about it, and even then, the Forza series competes nicely.
I personally won't bother with a PS3 until they fix the controllers and Sony isn't such a douchebag company.

Hmm..Still,PS3 for me!!!
I have Forza 3 and Gran Turismo 5 and GT5 crushes Forza.
PS3 games that are worth it for me would be:
Uncharted 1 & 2
Infamous
Killzone 2 and 3 is coming soon
Resistance 2 and 3 is coming soon too
I also prefer the PS3 controllers, they feel more comfortable in the hand during long periods of playing time.
Definitely PS3! especially if you're into racing games, GT5 is hands down the BEST racing game I have ever played.

Can you play with the keyboard dock instead of the touch screen?
Finished the story line in less than 2 days
after story finished in every mission messages are repeated every 5 seconds and upon completing a mission one ends up in kind of a "message loop" (messages pop up over and over again and no way out)...
this looks great. Can the demo be replayed or is it a one time play through?

So you are saying there is essentially zero replay value??
I thoroughly enjoyed the game. While it was quite short (~6 hours for me), there are loads of side missions, which I am now accessing thanks to the automatic resume point prior to finishing the game.
The graphics are pretty nice, but it unfortunately plays too slowly on Medium or High settings in certain areas. Other areas, even High is fine... I prefer consistently high frame rate, though, so I just do Low everywhere. When Tegra 3 comes out, putting this game at High will be a dream. The fog makes High look absolutely gorgeous.
All in all, I like it. While $15 is a healthy chunk of change for a cell phone / tablet game, this truly reeks of console quality because of its depth.
I love this game, completely worth the $15
playing the game on high with a OC at 1.4ghz and running very smooth
Must say the game play and animation is somewhat arcade like and has a 2nd generation feel, so nothing to rave about imo, price tag pretty steep as well. Graphics looks pretty good but no way near pc quality, all in all not bad for a tablet game.

For me, I got the xbox because most of my friends have one. Both the consoles are very similar in graphics and everything so you should buy the console that the majority of your friends have. If your not looking for a console for the social part of it, then you should get a ps3 because you don't have to pay to play online.

It comes down to if you like first person shooter or adventure orientated games
Depends what you want it for. If it's just for games then the xbox 360 is cheaper so you can get some games with it when you get it. If you want it for more than games then the PS3 is better, especially if you want to watch bluray films.
There's not much between them. The exclusive PS3 releases do look better than the exclusive xbox 360 releases, but it's got better hardware so they should.
If you can afford it, I'd say get both with the view of selling one of them a couple of months later. Have a play and see which you prefer.
Incidentally, if you have a particular liking for getting trash-talked and teabagged by little kids then definitely get the xbox 360.
On thing you need keep in mind with Xbox360 if you want play online you need to pay for Xbox live as far as I know this is not the case with pc and ps3.

I got similar specs, also an i7 ( 2670QM ) Nvidia Geforce GT 540M 1GB, 8GB ram, 128GB SSD.
But mine is an Asus K53SV-SX838V I had an Dell ( Studio 1558 ) before but for me no Dell any more I think the build quality is not good and mine Dell broke after 1 year and 11 months.
Both consoles are good for me. I would say ps3 has better exclusives but owning both they both rock.

You could probably zoom through it in a few hours, but it took me quite a while to finish. There's a points system where the fancier your style, the more points and credits you earn. The credits are used in an in-game store to buy upgrades and unlock more weapons and skills. You can easily spend an extra few hours just grinding for credits. If you ace the game with the maximum score on every stage, you can get an extra war asset in Mass Effect 3. I started out with a pirated copy, then I bought it when it dropped to 99 cents, but I think it's 7 dollars normally. You can use the default tap-to-aim system, or for a bigger challenge you can switch to free aiming. The graphics are Perry impressive for a phone game, and you'll want about 250MB free for the extra download.

I've been experiencing significant issues while running this game, to the point of being unplayable. After a little digging, this is an issue across several Samsung tablets, all using the Exynos 5 Octa. I can confirm this isn't a high DPI issue either, because the game ran just fine on my Note Pro 8.4 with a Snapdragon 800 Processor.
Sigh... they put out a flagship product and put their buggy processor in it. I don't know if this has skewed my perception of the tablet, but I also seem to be noticing unexpected lag in other apps as well-- including the XDA Premium app.
