.odex files - should I remove them ? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have a quick question: should I remove an .odex file after uninstalling its application ?
For example, I recently uninstalled Aurora.apk via Titanium Backup, should I remove Aurora.odex file as well ?
Regards,
michael.

Yes, once the application .apk is removed, you can remove it's .odex files too. They are of no use without it's .apk file.

Where can i find the .odex file in the file managers?

i removed an app and was trying to install an updated one, but its not letting me to install. so if i remove the odex file from the system, it'll let me to install it>

user apps wont have a .odex file. if its a system app and you are running an odexed rom then you will find those files in system/app

Can i remove all .odex file in system/app

What's API when you deodexed? .odex should be gone after deodexing. Try deodexing again, Set API=10 before deodex both apps & fm

Hello everyone!!
So i got myself a WiFi Xoom and rooted it. By mistake uninstalled the stock browser with titanium backup and now its gone from the system. Can any of you please provide me with a flashable file so i can flash it via recovery and restore app?
I tried getting the apk from one of the system dumps on the developer section but when i try to install it i get the message "App not Installed".
did you move the apk to system/app and give it correct permissions rw/r/r?

I tried to copy the apk to the system/app folder using ES file exlorer but it does not let me, and i dont know how to set the correct permissions.
Use RootExplorer, it does all mentioned stuff
Put the apk into this file. Put it in the system/app folder and flash in recovery.

Thanks!!!!! this worked very well. Thanks to all that replied.
I've Lost My Browser
EDITED:::Nvmd, replaced browser.apk with the ones from system dump, as mentioned in OP, and that resolved my issue of not being able to use the stock browser.

[Q] Restore stock camera

Anyway to restore the stock camera App ?
I have moved the Camera APP from "/system/app" to sdcard and then to my pc.I changed the icon to ICS Camera icon and now when i try to install it says to replace it,i click yes and after the process finish says "app not installed".
I have the APK and the .odex file of the f***** camera, just need a way to install it.
if you picked it up from /system/app then you need to restore it in /system/app itself
backup your current working camera apk and odex [as you have]..
move modified files to /system/app and change permissions to rw-r--r-- as others then only it will work.. if it doesn't reocognise in first attempt after permissions then reboot and see if it works...
if it doesn't simply means modifications don't work --> restore

Put the Camera.apk to /system using any root file manager and then set the permission to rw-r-r. Reboot. Here is the link,
Stock Camera App
If that doesn't work, just backup the data and then reflash the stock rom using odin. Hope I Helped

[Q] How to install themes?

My Galaxy Note is running Classic Rom V6 ICS and I just downloaded a .zip theme pack. How do I go about?
Usually you run the pack and it installs, if it's third party, you need to extract and place into the system file.

I tried exploring the zip file and for every type of theme, there is an app folder and a framework folder filled with .apks. Does that mean I can run
the apks in any order for a chosen theme?
No. usually there are 2 folders
apps = you hve to place these apks in system/apps folder a d change permission to rw-r--r--
framework = place the *-res.apk in system/framework folder and change permission as above.
but. make sure if you replace any file, you keep a backup of that so that it something does not work, you can revert back

First of all WRONG SECTION, this is GTS5830 Q&A Thread
If you want to move an app to system partition and your rom is odex you need to move both files .apk+odex, but if you only move .apk it could work too without odex file, try moving only .apk, if it doesn't work move odex file too and don't forget to set the correct permissions

Need Conservations.apk and odex

Hello everyone!
Recently I rooted my phone and begun to tweak it. So I decided to integrate all updated system app to system partition . After that the camera wasnt working so I restored a nandroid backup. Everything was good until I tried to open the SMS app. It crashed imidiately. I wiped its data, cache and dalvik but it didn't work. Then using root explorer I navigated to priv - apps and see if was anything wrong with the permisions. Everything was ok so i decided to delete the odex File and reboot. But after the reboot the SMS app was missing although the APK was still there. I am on stock kitkat locked bootloader. Any help please?
Delete .odex files without deodex? You need to deodex first, also some apps need libs... You need to extract it from apk and copy to "system/lib"
