Hi,
Which of the custom ROM do you find better than stock ROM, based on your own experience. What I'm missing by using stock ROM ? you think

I guess the answer is, it depends like everything else. Custom ROMs come in a great variety, AOSP, AOKP, TW, hybrid ones like Paranoid. Just flash and try
Personally I like TW. I tried Criskelo and Kingdroid, also tried paranoid(non TW). I liked Kingdroid the best. It has the newer version of TW(as opposed to the stock ROM), somewhat better battery life, more fluid IMHO, better performance overall.
ROMs are more like, to each their own. Try it, you have nothing to lose. I tried a few over a weekend, and settled on one that I dont change often because of lack of time.
I agree..
I agree, too.
Just one more suggestion as this could help you determine faster if the rom does what you need/want:
Root your phone and use a backup software (titanium or backup root, for example), saves you time
If you do this already nevermind
But to answer your question directly: most of the roms focus on smothness and stability, others implement whole new features (in paranoid rom you can choose for every app if you want the tablet or phone version) or make it easier to tweak your system (liquidsmooth would be my example for this). Also, there are several JellyBean ROMs which only miss a few features so you are always up to date and don't have to wait for Samsung's infamous touchwiz-"magic" to be applied...
And it actually teaches you a thing or two about Android and the development for it (at least it did for me )
Hope I could help

Hi People
I am new to the world of custom rom. I just rooted my phone and i am looking into proceeding with installing ICS through a custom rom.
After some research i have narrowed it dow to two choices.
Paranoid Android vs. KingDroid NoteMania
Paranoid Android is fascinating but after correspondence with a member from here he has told me that:
"in russian forums many peoples have *mmc* issues with "paranoid android" latest version, so choice is obvious for me: Kingdroid note mania is better, just because it's safer."

Is that true?
About KingDroid now i have nothing to report or ask. It looks perfect, except for the fact that it doesn't have tablet mode which i really want to get the feel of.
Now some general questions.
I have heard that custom roms have minor but frustrating glitches in various things.
I was wondering what i should expect...?
Anything other noteworthy that i might need in order to make an informed decision?
Ps. Right now i have a problem with my Note. It breaks off deep sleep spontaneously as if awakening from a bad dream.
Will a custom Rom fix that? Will it bring me other nightmares?
What is your experience with these two roms?
Thank you in advance people.

I suggest you go throughout the respective post in the development section. For PA, it is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1662802
Start at posts after June 27, then you skip problems of previous versions.
I went through almost everything and it appears there are hardly any issues. I personally do not have any, except that I have not yet figured out how to change the sort order for my movies in the Gallery app; it appears it always sorts by file date or so. Anyway, off topic and not really a bug I guess.
PA is quite unique in the sense that you can have phone mode and tablet mode apps simultaneously. I like that. On ICS, I was very disappointed about the email app. In PA, this is simply great.
To install PA, you go back to GB or any other safe kernel, hence there is no emmc issue as someone suggested to you. PA itself uses a safe kernel of CM9, so no issues here either.
About Kingdroid, no idea. I will stick with PA as it fits my needs.
I suggest that's exactly what you should do: try for yourself to see does it fit. It's like with shoes. Asking someone else whether they fit is pointless...

If I helped you I'd appreciate your THANKS!
Just try all the roms out here.
Only after you have tested a few roms can you tell which one suits your needs.
I've tried almost all of them here in xda: Rocket Rom, Kingdroid, Asylum, AOKP, ParanoidAndroid, Ganbarou, Cassie's, AllianceRom, LiquidSmooth, Criskelo, Chrack. Although CM9/AOSP/AOKP roms have a million possibilities of customization i found that tw based roms suit my needs better. After many flashes i'm currently on AllianceRom which i think it's the best for me, smooth, customizable, stable.
I have narrowed down to exactly these two ROMS. PA or KD. I wish someone did feature comparison

Well before i used to use DarkyRom (for NOTE is alliance ). Gnex was with paranoid android.
But for me know for the first time one question crossed my mind. Do I really need to avoid TW for example and the benefits I have and love from use of S-PEN.
So I am now looking for a good Stock rooted ROM. not AOSP or AOKP anymore.
I am loosing too much with them. And I need NOTE mostly for business so my choice is obvious.

Clear answers to clear questions.. It only depends on your own likes.. Try both and see..
PA its as safe as any other safe rom as it uses cm9 kernels (well known to be safe) Also Kindroid its safe because they use a safe kernels in aroma installer...
And Kindroid DOES have tablet mode just it does not support any kind of touchwiz ui they use apex launcher (aosp looks like launcher) for this mode

I just rooted a friend's phone and was wondering what would you recommend me. He doesn't know how to change ROMs so I am looking for something rock stable, close to stock, nothing fancy, just something that works without any problems.
It depends on what type of experience you want. Are you looking to alleviate some of the issues that plagued the stock ROM with its poor I/O response time? What is your reason for replacing stock if you want something similar to stock?
CM7 or CM10 are both good ROMs; CM7 significantly improves the performance over stock, it has the same UI as Eclair/Froyo/Gingerbread and it had extra (useful) features.
CM10 is out of alpha now (I think) and provides the latest Android experience, similar to what you would get on a new phone. ICS/JB was a significant redesign over the ROM that was stock for SGS.
I'm not satisfied with CM ROMs, I ran them on both my HTC Desire and Nexus S and they didn't feel smooth. I want something stock with basic root settings.
The reason he wanted a custom ROM was because his phone was heating much and rebooted.
I would say Slim ICS with the setup on my sig.. first ICS rom ive been using after GB and just loving it, VERY stable and smooth, Only downside that pop ups on my mindd right now is you cant record 720p video if you want more RAM with the bigmem patch enabled.. BUT thats only IF you want it enabled

Do you think there is some very good stock apps that its not worth to change rom? Or is for example Cyanogenmod 11 so much better that I should flash it right away?
Stock rom is 4.1.2.
cm rom not good.
i use slim rom very good

I tried lot of roms...stock or not. I can say that any new rom 4.4.X that you can find in xda is better than stock. Slim, Omni and others are very fast, smooth and battery friendly, with lot of customization. With these roms installed, N7000 looks like other new devices as performance, really.
Maybe you'll miss S-Note, but GNote is very good too...it's almost the same. Float Note is like Quick Memo...and there are many google or free apps even better than Samsung's one. You will able to get s-pen shortcuts too.
Keep trying...
I've searched and I've seen other posts with no responses. So whats your favorite custom ROM and why? I've tried a few but I can't seem to put my finger on the one I like the best and wanted to see what other people were enjoying about different ROMs. Sorry if this post isn't allowed.
Yes this kind of post isnt allowed
We cant say which rom is bad or good or favorite....
Everyone has their own taste nd preference..
All roms there are stable... you should try all the roms...
Nd btw if u are not satisfied with any of the rom....
Just go back to stock!
favourite mostly stable rom = STOCK SAMSUNG.
its actually depend on you. you as the user. you use the phone. you choose. i always end up with stock since all the function i want work on stock.
I think all Samsung based roms suck, because Samsung managed to make the Android experience worse than stock in every way except the camera.
The only N7 based rom which is stable and mostly works is the Nemesis rom with the Nemesis kernel additionally flashed.
Install greenified, forced doze and xposed to give it reasonable battery life.
i did try many ROMS
but evetually i still go back to stock for 99.9% stability and everything "JUST WORKS"
custom rom is good. dont get me wrong, love it especially when it comes to features.
but for me eventually my requirement is stability.. so sometimes i just play around with a custom ROM for like 1-2 weeks then go back to stock
only flash the ROMS that i felt is worth trying

I have to agree with Edan.
Stock is my choice as Samsung have taken all features into consideration.
There are other ways I prefer to customize such as having lauchers.
Hello. I just bought my brand new Oneplus 3T. I came from the LG G4. I always used custom roms on my android phones. Unfortunately I have a job now and I don't have much time to play/test all these roms around here.
I'm not asking "the best rom" or "which is better" sort of things.
I just need an opinion for what should I begin with?
I would prefer some stock based rom.
As about the kernel I heard a lot about Franco's kernel but I saw that there is Boeffla kernel too.
Don't get me wrong, I just need something to start from because as I mentioned above I don't have much time to test and choose which is best for me.
Thank you!
I have tested many ROM's and I always come to the same conclusion. Stock is better. I recommend you to use stock OOS, root it and mod it as you wish. It's a powerful OS, without much bloatware (which can anyways be easily removed) and it offers a decent amount of customization. Of course, it's not as customizable as RR, but RR is also unstable and doesn't offer the same camera quality. In fact, most ROMs have a crappy camera. Except PA, apparently, which, of course, has other problems, like idle battery drain. You'll find something that won't make you happy in every rom you try. That was, at least, my experience. I have come to the conclusion that OOS does its job well.

This is exactly what I want. I don't want a LineageOS based rom or something like this.
I want a STOCK based rom.
But I don't know with which rom should I start because I saw that there are a few.
Hmm, I'd say freedomOS. It's a very stable ROM, "daily driver" material. It gives you the option to kinda debloat it when you flash the ROM
If you are looking for maximum battery with average use then go for RR with EX Kernel.
Yeah Freedom OS is kind to install because you don't have to do the usual stuff manually, but I've personnaly not noticed anything you can't get on stock OOS.
I'd advice to stay stock, and if later you still want to try some new things there will be plenty of mod material here
If you want something else...try Phoenix AEX ROM..
Really different experience...( EAS based )
Hi, when you are new with this phone I personally would recommend OxygenOpen Beta.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/how-to/coming-update-oos-based-7-1-t3564240
This Rom has everything you want, for me absolut stable and has all features you need for normal use. Worth to have a look.
I always had custom Roms on my earlier phones, but this stock Rom is the best I have ever seen. I have unlocked bootloader and rootet phone but since I have my phone (since May) I flashed this Rom and there is no reason for me to change it:angel:

Don't feel like you need to flash a custom ROM, just because you "always have". Try the stock OOS for a bit, you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Stock OOS is very impressive. Very little bloat, really close to stock Android, nice customization options, and it just works. It's a big departure from the manufacturer "skins" applied by LG, Samsung, etc. which often (in my opinion) make too many changes, with little added value.
Although, I would suggest unlocking the bootloader now (instead of waiting) even if you do intend to try out the stock ROM for a while. Sinceit is a bit annoying having your data wiped (by unlocking the bootloader - it can't be avoided) and having to setup everything again, if you do decide to install a custom ROM, kernels, etc.
Stick to OOS. It's the best, really. Sultanxda's lineage is amazing for starters.
And Franco kernel on OOS is also "legendary"
Nevertheless, it's upto you to try and tell yourself what rom/kernel suits your needs.
Cheers!
That's the mistake you use custom roms. I always have stock rom on my every device
Stock open beta 10 with custom kernel(optional to remove dm verity flag) + magisk + safety net pass + adway + google assistant + dark mode.... thats it !
