Wi-fi always on? - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi, i'm new here and didn't found nothing to fix my problem.
I'm trying to use my wifi always on, i already set the wifi-policy on always but it still disconnects when my screen turns off so i'cant get notifications like mail, whatsapp, steam, etc.
i already tried with the different "wi-fi lockers" in the market but nothing.
my previous phone (galaxy 5) didn't have this problem so i think the router it's not the problem.
also, i'm using this baseband "S5830CVJKL4" and obviously in a 5830m (same as c and i)
thanks.

the wi-fi option in spare parts it's the same of settings>wi-fi>advanced, doesn't work.

Is your mobile data/roaming turned on ?
Sent from my GT-S5830i using xda app-developers app

Are you using a battery saver (juice defender, for example)? If so, make sure you don't let it control your wifi.

i'm not using battery savers and my mobile data is turned off.
i'll try with a different baseband today, not sure if that have something to do with the wifi.

Weird, i use advanced wifi locker for another tablet that i got that problem and fixes it, though, i noticed that works in some roms and in others don't.
Anyways maybe is because the rom? i use the stock galaxy one and i don't need to use 3rd party to get the wifi on always.

well, aparently IT IS my router, tested in a friend's home with his wifi and didn't have this problem.
weird, the problem it's only when my screen is off, i guess i'll call my internet provider tomorrow, thanks guys.

Losing data connection (NOT wifi but HSPDA, EDGE...)

This is about all the data connection through the MOBILE provider, so not WIFI.
It is after x time when the phone is on. Maybe it is GPS related.
But bottomnline: the icon with the H or the E(dge) is there and it is even flashing for data, however every app stats there is no connection to the network.
After a reboot all is fine.
Other persons are also experiencing this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=675786&highlight=huuub
I am using cyanogens latest with one of pershoots latest, but other kernels show the same behaviour.
My guess is that everyone has this problem? Is this a bug somewhere?
This happensto mine as well. I just switch in and out of flight mode to fix it.

This is a carrier issue. Not the Rom. trust me.

Oh, ok, I should trust you. If you hadn't told me to trust you, I wouldn't have, but now that you did tell me, I do.
I think it's a software issue, as do many other people. Never had this problem with tmobile on any other phone.
Oh, I almost forgot: trust me.
Does anyone here notice it seems to get lost after leaving a wifi connection? Like this bug?

I've experienced this more frequently on Cyanogen roms vs. Modaco's.
really a bug ?
ok guys, I am completely in a stock 2.1 rom .. no mods whatsoever and not rooted as well .. to get this problem, use wi-fi for a while(5mins example) and then disable it .. then use ur gprs/edge and see if it works.. the small E logo will show and the upstream arrow will glow white but downstream arrow will stay dark gray.. both should glow white when accessing the net but it doesn't after using wi fi .. this is really pissing me off having to restart my phone everytime this happens and I use both wi fi and gprs for everyday use .. can someone check to see if this problem is persistent ? thanks ..
Juicedefender is the cause
Ok, I figured out what was causing these problems. And I found out that after uninstaling Juicedefender my Cell connection returns. Anyway Juicedefender didn't seem to do so much for me anyway. (on the contrary I believe)
Can anybody confirm?

Galaxy Tab keeps rebooting when turning on wifi

Anyone out there with this issue? I have multiple wifi network profiles on my Tab for Home (2) and at Work (1). Out of these 3 profiles , 1 profile from home (wpa) and the other from work (802.1x EAP) will reboot the GT each time i turn on the wifi. The only way to stop this from happening is to remove these profiles. Not very productive but thats the only way to get rid of the booting. Anyone facing this issue ?

It just happened to me too. Got the Android panic screen.
Mine just reboots wo any panic icon
Re-flash with the latest firmware.
Dear zyborg, i am a complete noob in this area coming from the WM platform. Can u point me to the link on how to flash a GT rom? B4 i take the step to do that , i would like to try hard resetting first...which will totally remove the rooting and not just the privacy - return to factory default? Is there such a thing like that for android devices? TQ in advance
Reflashed at Samsung centre. Issue stil there.

Take it back as it sounds defective..
I have the same problem. Did you get it solved or is it a hardware error?
I couldnt prove it to Samsung when i was at the sevice centre because the reboot didnt hapen at their wifi router. I came to a conclusion that the problem only arises on certain profiles and certain wifi routers. Compatibility issues? So far my dlink router and corporate router, cisco is giving me this issue. I had another 7 inch tablet, CSL and i never faced such issues with the same settings

I found out that the reboot does not occur when i only have one wlan profile configured.
So i think it is an softwarebug. Do you agree?
Thanks!
Yes. I agree. Looks like its only u and me for the time being. Btw my rom is dxjj1. What is yours?

As i have baught my tab at Amazon, i have the possibility to change it on warranty for a new one. Maybe i will do this on next weekend.
I will keep you informed about my encounters.
Thanks lulatsch99. Would really like to know the outcome from yr side. Tomorrow i am getting a help from samsung tech guy to meet me at my office to test out his tab. Will try to simulate the same profiles to see if his machine boots too.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
Hi,
today i got my brand new exange tab from Amazon. I tested it without installing any Apps.
The same reboot problem appeared. As soon as i had configured more than 1 wlan profile, the tab rebooted after switching off and on wlan. The same happens when i activate and deactivate the Offline modus.
This even happened when i had one profile for real and one dummy profile configured. After the reboot the wireless lan connection works fine until switching off and on wlan.
Both profiles i configured with wpa2 psk.
Now i really think this is a software/driver bug. Most of the tab users seam to have only one wlan profile, otherwise more people would have this problem.
Oh, i also contacted the german Samsung support. They never heard of this problem.
Please let me now if you got better results with or from the tech guy.
The tech guy from Samsung couldnt make it. Next schedule is next week. I am not too hopeful now since ur scenarrio proved its not hw related. Maybe Samsung in Germany and Malaysia should talk to each other. Thats provided the log down our issues in the database. Will update you once i get to test their units. I also tested that this problem will exist if one profile is on wpa while the other is on 802.x

I have the same issue. The tab also reboot eventhough I have only 1 wifi profile configured. I try "factory default" several times but issue still exist even no any app installed at all.
my version is also P1000DXJJ1.
After phone consult with local Samsung call center, they have never seen this problem.

Either Samsung is trying to cover up till the next major update or not enough ppl is having this problem to make it a major issue. May I know which country you are from ? I am from Malaysia. If we at the same location, then maybe we can go there together and make a point.
Ii finally met up with the Samsung tech guy today. Same issue with his TAB. So I guess its a bug with the software. He will feedback to Samsung and I guess all we can do is wait till the next official ROM to see if they have solved it. I will try the DXJK5 ROM later this week to see if the problem appears there.

[Q] wifi keeps switching on and off

Hey all,
since a couple of days I have a problem with my wifi, it keeps switching on and off (I can see the checkbox activating and deactivating, every couple of seconds, at the moment it is unchecked and says "error")
as I said, the wifi worked before
I am running cyanogen 7 (http://android.doshaska.net/cm7) on Milestone
- But I have also tried MIUI, with the same problem
does issue sound familiar to anyone?
Maybe it is an app which force turns my wifi on/off, is there any way to check which one it is (as far as I know I don't have an of them, eg juice defender, tasker installed)
Many thanks
Have you tried other WiFi networks? Because the same error being reproduced across two different ROMs seems a little unlikely.
Well, the problem is that my wifi doesn't stay on long enough (just a couple of seconds) to scan/connect to any network.

So it isn't a problem connecting to a network, it's a problem of the wifi not even being able to turn on?
Well "technically" it does turn on, but it switches off immediately

wow, i just logged in to search for this issue myself. I have that same issue across multiple roms also. The one that did work was the Telus Lite Eclair. I liked that one, but of course I wanted to check out others. Each one was the same as you describe. Wifi scans, disconnects, scans, in a loop.
I have done searches on google for wifi disconnect loop android, and seen some stuff about kernals and stuff that is over my head at the moment. If some one has an idea on how to get it working that would be great.
I wipe before any install, I've went back to stock and it works, everytime I went to the Telus Lite one it also always worked. I dont know if theres a clue there or not?
Im on an Telus milestone in Canada, on Telus network if that makes a difference.
And since I think this is my first real post, Thanks for the work guys.
Not sure if this would work, but this is the first result that popped up: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/koush/75782-wifi-disconnect-loop-cm6-final.html
EDIT: People are saying that Hidden SSIDs and MAC filtering can cause problems when trying to connect to the WiFi network. Try forgetting the network, making the network visible(protected if you wish) and reboot the phone and try again.
ok, time for a stupid question...
where do I find suitable kernels?
I can't find anything about this (roms and kernel tweaking is a is pretty well documented though)

As far as I know, you won't be able to change the kernel on the Milestone at all, due to the locked bootloader.

[Q] need help for connection problem

hi there, i just bought my galaxy note 1 month ago, and there is a problem with the packet da ta, sometimes i cant connect to the internet and the packet data symbol just suddenly dissapear, i have try to on off my packet data from settings but nothing happens, still cant connect, so i need to restart my phone by turning it off and turning it on so the packet data or internet connection can run smoothly again, please can someone help me with this probelem, is this the provider error or my note?
not sure if it'll help you in any way, as your problem may be completely different, but check your APN settings - few stock ROMs ago, my Note used to change APN name by itself (don't remember now, but sth like "_android" was added to the name from time to time), and I had to manually correct it each time. Then after one of the upgrades the problem disappeared, still don't know what was the reason...

[Q] Xperia T disconnects from Wi-Fi automatically.

My Xperia T disconnects from Wi-fi automatically. One minute it is connected and running fine but suddenly it disconnects and shows out of range. Strangely this happens only on stock or stock based rom. Wi-Fi runs fine when running CM10.1. So i guess its not hardware issue. I would use CM10.1 but its so unreliable. I missed several important calls due to sudden reboot in CM10.1 and in stock I cant use my Wi-Fi properly. It disconnects automatically. I have tried every wifi setting combination but none of them work. I am frustrated because of this. I have treid every firmware from from ICS to latest .145. But nothing is helping. Is there some kind of wifi power saver that i can disable or maybe i can update wifi driver in my xperia T. I am in desperate need of solution. Please help me. :crying:
Tough one... have you gone into Settings, then Power Management? There is "extended standby mode" option on my phone that seems like it would turn the wifi off while the phone is idling.
Also, is this on any wifi connection? Or mainly your home wifi? It would be worth having a look at the website of your router's manufacturer to see if there is a new firmware available for your wireless router.
I would like to suggest trying stock firmwares from other regions but I don't know how safe that is. Is your phone an LT30a? LT30p?
Right now I'm using LT30p_9.1_A.1.141_PL on my LT30a (Bell) and wifi is quite solid.
