Is there a file in the android system that, sort of like an autoexec.bat, lists what to do on startup? For example forcing the system into recovery or download on power on?
I flashed the latest Vibrant firmware and did so with the option to repartition, which Im now finding out was not the right way to flash this one.
Long story short, it didnt contain the dbdata directory information and now, I am unable to boot and unable to get to download. I still have ADB access, it just isnt responding to ADB reboot download, it just comes right back up booting into recovery to flash the last stage of odin before it starts up.
Is there a way to force the phone back into download mode or force it to stop rebooting into recovery?
Pull battery out and USB to use the hardware buttons to manually get into download mode?
P.S. wrong forum
Aren't there some apps that can do that? I do it manually but like you said its not working for you, p.s im downloading that firmware

Manual buttons arent seemingly working, so far ive tried every conceivable combination of vol up down and power, even if all I do is plug the phone in Im back in recovery before the battery turns green.
(ps. I know, but I had a billion percent better chance not getting a mouthbreather response, despite the definite chance of flame posts lol)

Have you successfully gotten into Download mode with hardware buttons before? Or are you one of those vibrants with "locked download?"
I have a feeling mines locked, Ive never used the buttons to successfully get into download mode, just adb reboot download
EDIT: Tried the posts suggestions, problem is second I plug in the USB and the battery pops up it goes right to recovery. Even if im holding the buttons before hand.

x_x don't know what to tell you then. With locked hardware, you have to be really careful because if something goes wrong you cant manually get back in there. Do you have Clockwork Recovery? try restoring to a previous nandroid backup.

I was working with that a bit, but it just kept getting to datadata and being unable to wipe or flash to it due to the odin botch. I tried wiping it clean and it just wouldnt let me do that to reflash.
So now im stuck at the samsung recovery screen without the ability to get into clockwork or flash lol
This smells like 130 bucks for a new phone I think... brick number two >.>

I didnt! But when I was formatting and it failed to reapply the nandroid completely cause of the section it couldnt mount, now when I hit reinstall packages it just reboots. Same with shell, it just yells at me and tells me to die in a fire.
if you didnt figure this out, the way to fix it is to first flash WITH ODIN the original JVD firmware and check repartition, then flash the new one IN ODIN without the repartition box checked.
first update includes the dbdata that the phone is looking for.
Yeah, I figured it out now, but Odin is seriously the devil if your phone doesnt have the hardware buttons enabled.
Now heres a question, if I can still get into stock recovery... is there a way to like, you know, recover using the stock system? lol
BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS that Tmo is letting me warranty out my phone for free, shipping me a new one, and gave me a loner while I wait.
TMo for the win.

lol looks like you and I are in the same boat man. Hardware lock FTMFL. I have never been able to get into download mode, or recovery mode with the hardware keys, only with adb reboot recovery/download and terminal emulator app with SU privs. I wish there was a jumper we could reset to unlock it haha that'd be the s*# son. Good old pentium 133 in the palm of the hands, but no . Atleast they are taking care of the people who don't do things properly.
I did the same thing and ended up with the same problem, but i was able to get in into download mode. When i would plug it in it would try to boot into recovery after the battery screen i would use the keys to make it boot to download mode instead of recovery, it was a *****, but i got it, though idk if there is another way for people with locked down phones.
I was trying to flash my phone will juz got screwed when rebooting after changing font. But nothing I tried works, as I can't get into either recovery mode or download mode. I can't get my phone to start up, and the 3 bottons boot up thing doesnt seem to work.
Can anyone give me any help to boot up my I9000?

I was gonna bring it back to Bell for repair, but I was juz wondering if my phone was rooted would void the warrenty?
not as far as i know
they just don't like it SIM unlocked
they don't care much about rooting as it's considered a "software app"
If you bricked your phone, I think you have lost your warranty.
so do you think Bell would help me get the phone repaired if I go and find them?
I need help, my phone is stuck on the LG screen at boot, when I reboot to attempt getting into CWM i get the screen that says "are you sure you want to do a factory reset...." When I do so and factory wipe it goes back to the LG boot screen and doesn't go into Clockwork Recovery. Tried many times but no luck. I also tried connecting it to my pc and getting the LGNPST program but it doesn't see or recognize my phone as there is no way for me to connect it to USB Mass Storage.
Could I have really bricked my phone? I have screwed it up before but always able to get into CWM and turn on USB Mass storage, now I cant even do that. Any Help Please!!!
OOPS sorry i somehow posted this twice!!!
Would help if you posted what you've done to the phone. Since you only said what the problem is not what you did to it.
Hey thanks for replying. Ok here it is. I downloaded Rom Manager from the market that I bought previously for an HTC i had and from there somehow flashed a ROM and the rest is history. Stuck on LG
I downloaded ROM Manger since I got rid of it awhile ago since it didn't work and I have no idea how you could of flashed a rom through it since it'll just say you have to have clockworkmod on your phone unless you picked a different model like the esteem which is this phone but different model which would probably mess up the phone. But after you flashed the rom did anything else happen? Like did the phone work or just reboot and stay at Lg logo?
You know it was late last night and you just reminded me that I did use the Esteem ROM, and after that all it did was rebooted and stayed at the LG Screen, And whenever I try to get into recovery all it does is verify if i want to reset to factory and wipe data, then back to LG. I cant get any of my computers to recognize it on either XP or Win7...Im sorry I didnt say that my phone was rooted and running GingerVOlt1.3 with bk over clock kernel as well
Hmm try the Irc channel see if the people there have answers. http://webchat.freenode.net/ Channel: #lgrevolution
thanks i did that last night but im not sure how to actually use the IRC i tried clicking on several names and ask for help but no one responded. I appreciate your time though.

Beamer,
Thanks for your help. Unfortunately this does not work either. I have tried holding the power button and volume down button several times all it does is take me to the factory wipe screen and after confirming just reboots back to the LG screen and stays there. I dont know what else to try. I have tried on my new Win7 X64 laptop and also on an XP desktop that always works but non of them will "see" my phone as a storage device or anything. Any suggestions???

Alright, emergency mode is:
1) Pull battery
2) Put battery back in
3) Press and hold volume up
4) Press and hold power button while continuing to hold the volume up button
5) Hold through splash screen
6) Should now be in download mode

Mt,
Want to say thanks for all the work you've done and continue to do with the Revo. Its the only saving grace we have. Maybe you could help me out with this. I am stuck on the LGNPST when I put my phone in Download mode, LGNPST see's it as an "unknown" and only allows me to do a Phonebook Programing under the Emergency Tab, but when I choose the only Bin File and Only *csv. file it displays as error and stops. Im not sure as to what it wants me to do or what its trying to do. In the past I was able to just flash the VS910Ztot and be all done but now I cant even get that option. Do you have any Idea what I need to do??? Please any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hey I had a similar issue with this and the download mode and everything except I was able to get into recovery but it would reboot to fast to restore a full nand backup and I couldn't get the .dll to work either what I ended up doing and it fixed it was booting into recovery going into backups and restore then advanced restore and had enough time in recovery to restore just the boot so I did that next thing I knew the phone rebooted automagically like it had been doing but this time it went past the lg and into the gingervolt boot animation then I got a black screen so I manually booted into recovery did the same steps except this time I was able to advanced restore the system and it rebooted again when it booted up I had a black screen so I boot back into recovery and was finally able to restore a full back up never got an auto reboot so I booted up and the phone worked fine.

Try plugging it in to a computer. A lot of us are finding better results when you do. You may end up having to do more. But just being connected to a computer has helped in the past. Quick fix before you start trying adb

Err ..... it won't boot.
Does ADB work at this stage? Assuming you are rooted with CWM recovery, try
Code:
adb reboot recovery
Then from recovery, power it off completely. If fastboot is the problem, this should workaround it for you.

Known issue about the bootloader. Have to be connected to a computer via USB to be able to boot into recovery. if you have a working system partition you can use a script or other apps that will boot you into recovery.
Also the bootloader will freeze if you try to boot into it via the buttons if you are connected to a power outlet via USB

Not neccessarily true. I use an app called Quick boot. I can boot into recovery from it with Ease. Lets me set up Widgets/icon for recovery and I have one for reboot. No need for me to hook up to pc. Anywhere at anytime I can boot into recovery on my Nexus 7. I can also set one up for bootloader. If someone gets stuck on bootloader screen, the hardware button press for reboot works to get out of there.
They have a free version of the app and it works perfectly. Check it out. No need to run to a pc everytime you want to flash a rom or something. Battery is nothing to worry about. As long as you have 50%(really even less than that), you good to flash, wipe, or what ever.

Me too. Though I'm old school and still like to type commands rather than point and click. I'll be looking at Quick Boot but still go to PowerShell (which I always have open) and type adb reboot.:silly:
All the various apps that offer rebooting options will work as they are still executing the same terminal commands that you would've had to type in in order to reboot it.
The issue is that you would still require a working system partition in order to boot into recovery (stock/twrp/cwm) without any USB connection. Incase of a soft brick, you will need to connect to a computer in order to get into recovery so i would suggest people make sure they have one nearby when they're flashing stuff.
I just went through this. I boinked my setup and it was bootlooping. I couldn't get into CWM.
Just press and hold Power+VolDwn+VolUp until you get into the stock bootloader. Now plug in your USB to to a PC.
Stay in the bootloader. Mine actually kinda froze but it will unfreeze after a while. Don't select anything. Just stay there.
Now you can use Fastboot commands to reboot into CWM. ADB only works when the phone is on.
I think the command is "fastboot reboot recovery".
This will put you in CWM. You can also take this opportunity to reflash your recovery here too. I reflashed mine just to be on the safe side before rebooting it.

Well I decided to call Google about the boot loader recovery not working as it should. I was hoping this call would help them to work on another update but they say that's the way its supposed to work. Here's the email Instructions:
1. Power down your device
2. Press and hold both volume keys and the power button to enter
Bootloader mode
3. Press the volume keys to cycle to the Recovery mode option
4. Press the power button to select Recovery mode
5. From the Recovery mode screen, press and hold the Power button then
press the Volume up button.
6. Use the volume buttons to select wipe data/factory reset.
7. Select Yes -- delete all user data.
8. The factory data reset process will now start. Once its finished,
select 'Reboot system now.'
The only option we have in the new recovery is to wipe data. Maybe for those having problems accessing twrp or cwm will be able to a access it with step 5. I don't know haven't rooted yet. So I decided to ask about nvflash and they said they're not going to release any nvflash tools or files.
um, yup. thats how stock bootloader and stock recovery work. lol
whats the issue? if your not even rooted, you wouldn't even know if you have an issue or not with the new bootloader.
Are you saying that you can't flash a different recovery? Or that when you do you still get the same stock recovery? I'm not quite sure what the issue is here, because that is exactly how the stock bootloader, and recovery are supposed to work.
Are you making sure to unlock fastboot before trying to flash recovery. I don't recall seeing or hearing anyone say anything about not being able to get to clockwork mod once its installed.

No. I saw people posting they couldn't get go cwm and could only see the red exclamation point. And I was just saying maybe after choosing recovery then holding volume up and power it would then go to cWm or twrp. I was hoping for someone to try it who is still on 3.41 Recovery. A lot of people downgraded back to 3.39 or whatever version it was

I can confirm that to get in to the stock recovery you hold down 'power' and then tap 'vol up'.
At present I am running the latest CWM touch recovery. This boots straight into it from the bootloader without any extra button presses.
My personal preference to go into CWM is from either QuickBoot or ROM Manager.

When I first flashed TWRP onto my Nexus 7 after that official 4.1.2 OTA update, I wasn't able to boot into it. I then flashed it again via fastboot, and then booted the TWRP image that was on my computer, and then TWRP loaded.
I believe TWRP does work normally now as well (I can boot into it and reboot into it).

going to recovery from bootloader works fine after 3.41.....wat r u talkin abt? (i m stock rooted+twrp)
oh yea...u hav 2 remove that recovery stock.p file thingy first.
There are plenty of people that are having issues with recovery on 3.41 bootloader.... Its confirmed some have it some don't.
The issue is that with 3.41 bootloader on some Nexus 7 Devices a custom recovery is unbootable no matter how you try, every time it will try to load recovery and fail at a black screen then reboot into the OS. It does not matter how you try from ADB reboot to recovery or from bootloader with USB attached or not.

In your system folder there's a file called 'recovery-from-boot.p'
Go into a file manager with w/r access and rename it ' recovery-from-boot.p.bak'
When the system boots it reads that file and resets the recovery to stock, by changing the name you remove the problem.

When the system boots it reads that file and resets the recovery to stock, by changing the name you remove the problem.

No problem, a click on the 'Thanks' button for me and my colleagues on this thread would really make our day.
I hope you get sorted mate, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night until I got custom recovery working properly on any of my devices!
