The O4X is quite durable. - LG Optimus 4X HD

I dropped mine onto a concrete floor today from ~1m height. A little scratch on the corner, that's all. Has anyone of you already been throwing it around? Also, how's your screen? Mine already has a few scratches, as i've been wearing it in the pocket without a case - thougt the Gorilla Glass could take it, but apparently i'm wrong. But it's not that bad.

I give all my phones a protective cover on the screen. Also my old iPhones (3G/4) and my Lumia 800 with Gorilla Glas gets scratches after time. So I replace the screen cover every half year and the phones display stays free of scratches.

Totally agree, always have a screen protector on, even if they say the screen is bomb proof I would still apply one!

I dropped mine when I was getting out of the car the other day (fell onto pink concrete because our driveway is weird) =__=;; and again when I was eating at a food court (forgot my head phones were in, got up to get some utensils)... I think there was a review out that said when the cover is disconnected, it turns off the phone but maybe I heard it wrong because it was fine and on when I picked it up. No scratches, no external injuries found :3
Sturdy. Majestic. Running. Cowering in fear.

Get an screen protector n casing, less than 10 bucks.

I bought TPU Case and Nillkin Crystal Screen Protector, my 4X will be full safe

I let my O4X fall down from approx. 1m onto a stone floor. After buying a new phone, it looked as new.

Is the screen made of butter? It's been in one pocket, and sat face up on a pillow over night. Just found a scratch.. You guys know what this feels like. Thought making a week until the bumper arrived would be a cake walk.

Waiting for screen protector, my Nex5 still wears the original screen procector with the "Nexus 5" logo... :crying:
i feel the pain, in about a week i have small scratches ( a few of them), they're not noticable unless you take your time viewing it at a certain angle and what not.
it's small, but it urks me (gonna get over it)
Although i have no plans to apply a screen protector and will just be gettng a case.

one pocket + one grain of sand = at least 1 scratch on any phone, not just the nexus 5.
At least you didnt drop it the first day like some people that shattered their screens.
Not sure how you guys are getting scratches so easily. Mines in and out of my pocket all day. I've dropped it (Spigen slim armor case) and have had absolutely no issues. Maybe 2' drop, but still.

This is it really, sand/grit are the only things that will routinely scratch the gorilla glass used in these phones.
It's bad luck, but when it was in your pocket it must have had a rub against some. Could have happened to any phone you put in there.
darn, I wanted to leave my phone naked
Only used mine 5-10 minutes before putting screen protector on.
About 150+ hours here so far. Outside and in, in my car, on my dresser, on my desk, on my coffee table, on my work desk, in my work desk drawer, in and out of pocket. Cat even knocked it off my coffee table a couple times.
No scratches. 100% Naked.
Do you have a cat?

I feel your pain man. I've had my phone and week and I got a nice 1 inch scratch in the top corner. I've been babying it waiting for the LG quickcover (i like the front cover cases) but of course now im thinking f*ck it i'll just go naked.
I wish google would just shut up and take my money.
I'm out and about all day long and my hands get dirty. I know the smallest particle of sand swiped across my screen will scratch it. That's why I ordered a TPU case and a screen protector before my Nexus 5 even arrived.
I have a desk jockey friend who likes his phones naked... Until he put really small scratches on his Note.
Sorry broseph, I know the feels. This is why I make sure to have a screen protector on hand before taking the phone out of the box. A lot of people will tell you "it's fine to run without a screen protector, Gorilla Glass 3 is very scratch resistant". These people don't realize that there are things out there with a hardness greater than Gorilla Glass. Sand for example. All it takes is one well placed grain of sand with the right hardness level to ruin your day.
There isn't much with a hardness factor greater than Gorilla Glass 3 (crystal sapphire) but sand and a few other things do have the exact same rating of hardness (7) which can still cause scratching.
Man I must just be lucky. In the year I used my N4 without a screen protector I didn't get a single scratch on the screen.
I'm expecting exactly the same from my N5.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Sadly on any phone, even with gorilla glass 3, scratches can occur. All it takes is one small fine diamond-like hardness particle in your pocket to come in contact with your screen. Remember, even pure glass is scratch resistant, but a diamond will tear it right up.

[Q] Cracked screen

I have the flexible glass screen protector from verizon on my 64g ballistic nylon with no case. Today while getting out of my car (a lowered vw golf) my phone fell off my lap on the the ground probably like only 2 feet from lap to the driveway. Screen completely shattered..... i thought gorilla glass 3 was supposed to be strong? Anyone else crack their screen yet? I know i get one free replacement but still i don't feel like the screen should have cracked this easily.
It's all about the angle in my experience. I've dropped phones and thought they were broke for sure only to see no damage and another time no biggie and I had a broken screen. Usually hits a corner just right. Sorry for your loss. On the a new one..
Its glass. Drop it at the right angle and it breaks.
Am i the only one who has cracked mine though? Has any one else dropped theirs yet? Crack or no crack upon dropping? just curious

My floors have ceramic tile flooring and I've dropped my old phone and my Turbo a few times on them. Face down too. No damage at all occured yet except maybe a scratch in the sides or backing. Screen is perfect though. Dunno what to tell you, sucks that it happened though.
Its a matter of luck. And as far as I can tell we are all pretty lucky to have a free replacement.

You aren't alone. I broke mine drunkenly Friday night, the night after release. Took it into the store Saturday night and got a replacement in the mail on Tuesday. The one time replacement is nice, but had to use it in less than 48 hours. They said I was the first one and they hadn't actually been trained on it yet. So they learned that night lol
It's a huge slab of ultra thin glass, drop it and it will break. It is scratch resistant (gorilla glass) but not shatter-proof, and screen protectors do basically nothing to protect from drops. A fall onto concrete is more likely to break it as well due to variations and protrusions on the surface. If you place our phone face down on a perfectly flat surface you'll notice that the top edge of the phone curves ever so slightly up from the screen, this helps protect it from drops on a flat surface because the force is distributed to those corners instead of directly to the glass. Concrete will usually have sharp protrusions or pebbles or rocks that cause the force to be localized in spots in direct contact with the glass, causing the cracks.
At least you get a free one-time screen replacement (one of the things I like about our phone and is awesome of Moto to do it)
Yup. 3 days in and it fell off the couch and into the hardwood floor. Cracked. Slightly irritated because my Maxx made this same fall a million times. I did not have a case on the turbo. Replacement phone is on the way along with lifeproof case
My screen was scratched within the first few weeks. As thin as a strand of hair, yet extremely infuriating nonetheless. So much for Gorilla Glass.

You beat me - I had mine a week. Dropped on a hard floor at work on Friday less than 1 week after I got it. After a few expletives, I phoned Verizon - had to tell them about the one time replacement, but she happily checked into it and I had my new phone on Monday (they say we get a like new refurb - I wonder if I got yours!
I dropped mine from a few feet. The next day it started power cycling over and over, probably 2 hours into this the phone was so hot I couldn't touch it. After that the screen quit working, still seems to function though, 16 days into having this phone so I just missed the hassle free trade in from verizon. Looks like I get to play the waiting game on Motorola, and oh yeah that department is only open Mon-Thurs.
It's all about the angle of the drop. Mythbusters tested it; see: Prince Ruperts Drop. You can drop the glass and it's completely fine, but when you introduce a large force over a small area(say dropping the phone on the corner or in this case cutting the tail end), it shatters. Otterbox commuter cases have saved my previous phone time and time again(At least 10-15 drops) because it absorbs the impact so much less force is transferred to the glass.

I had to return my first one on the first day. Not because of broken glass but the frame around the grass had a spur on it that cut my hand every time I tried to use the volume keys. I went directly to a store to get it replaced. They tried to tell me I had to do it over the phone and have a refurbished unit sent to me. I argued with them and said, I have only had the phone for one day and I paid full price for the phone. There is no way you are going to give me someones phone that they returned. I paid for a new phone and that's what I am going to get and for the price I paid, it better be without any scratches out of the box.
But the phone just coming out, they shouldn't have a lot of refurbished phones, so odds are I would have gotten a new unit. I just didn't want to wait for it to ship to me.
I shattered my first Droid. Was racing my 12 year old grandson and it flew out of my pocket and hit the road. Still have it with a cracked screen. It's my trophy for winning the race when he said I was too old and slow.
To be fair, the newer tempered glass screen protectors protect EXTREMELY well from drops. I work for Best Buy in a large city. I sell anywhere from 15-30 phones a day (and see hundreds of them) and have only actually seen one phone shattered through a Zagg Glass (out of at least a thousand examples) and the one that broke was dropped from a 2nd store balcony.

Glass protector peeling off from the top left corner. Is it common?

Hey guys and gals, I have my 5X for a little over a month now and since the day I got it, I installed a tempered glass screen protector on it. At first there were no bubbles/spots, but now I'm starting to notice a little bubble (like it's peeling off) at the top left corner, near the front camera. Was casually talking with a friend about how much we enjoy our 5Xs when he said that his screen protector was coming off from the top left corner as well. He showed me his 5X, with a pretty big "bubble" under the screen protector with the size of a fingertip, again at the top left corner. So I was thinking is it just ours protectors that bad (mine is unbranded chinese for $1 and his is a branded $10-15 one) or just the 5X is unnoticeable uneven and its common to have the screen protector peeling off after months of usage?
P.S. Comming from a Xperia M2, I applied a cheap $1 glass protector 2 years ago and it still as good as new.

Yep. I just removed my screen protector for that reason. It looked ugly. Will go protector less for a while, Try to break the psychological barrier. With Gorilla Glass 3 and above there is no point really for them anyway.
Do you have a case on it? I would guess maybe something else bumped it? I haven't had any problems. Either way they are so cheap, just replace it.
I had a screen protector on it, but I didn't like how it felt, so I've only been using a case now.
Never had this issue with IntelliGlass tempered glass on my 5x.

Tempered glass for me too. Top right corner has very slight peel back. My guess is the screen rolls off very slightly at the corners. Barely more noticeable than a fingerprint smudge so I've let it be. The rest of it is flawless so I'll leave well enough alone.
I agree with going protector-less. On my N4 before this and on my N5x, I only had a regular bumper case. I never had anything beyond a superficial tiny scratch on the N4 towards the end of it's life with me, which was three years. If you're not carrying it somewhere with keys or similar, you'll be fine. If I have to carry it in a bag where something can scratch it, I put it in a lens pouch that I got with my sunglasses.

Its not only for scratch protection but break protection. In theory the tempered glass breaks before the actually display's glass. Kind of like a crumple zone in cars which absorb the force. I've seen videos of people peeling the protector off and it's fine underneath. However, I'm sure with enough force you could possible break both but I haven't seen videos of that.

I think it only makes the device heavier.

I dunno. The only time I broke a screen was on the N4 when hiking and climbing over something so that I bend the phone in my back pocket. Or the N5 when i stumbled down the stairs and landed on my ass, nearly breaking the phone in half (again in my back pocket).
There's no reason for protectors, screen is fine as is.
Also, my biggest issue with screen protectors is that they get more oily and more fingerprint smudge than the screen does (depends on manufacturer though... my OnePlus One for example was more oily than screen protectors.)

So in your case, keeping your phone in the back pocket is the issue. LOL. I take having to wipe my screen a little more often (Which I don't think I'm really doing) than having to deal with a cracked display.

How does you S7 edge looks like now after not using any case?

Hi!
I am planning not to use any protective case/covers etc. accessories for my phone. Is it bad idea? Will Samsung S7 edge look like crap soon or it is scratch resistant and will keep nice look even after few months?
How does your phone looks like now after not using any protective covers? Could you post pictures and aprox time of usage?
Thank you, deff_ins
2 months - no protection , I'm carrying it in a pocket without other things like money or keys . No scratches at all , only fingerprints all over
Im a diehard screenprotector and case guy. Since I had been having so many problems finding a curved protector that sticks, and the ones that dont cover the edge looked like crap, I decided 2 months ago to go without a protector. I have a case that shows the edges well, and covers the frame nice.
After two months I finally have a 1/2 inch scratch on the face...nothing too bad and I will live with it...not sure how it happened but the glass has held up pretty well considering I am not a desk guy and am always using and doing things with my phone outside.
Overall Im surprised the glass has done well. That being said, and now that I have a scratch, I will be looking to get a protector again.

Well, good luck with living dangerously. I have my S7 Edge with the LED cover now for 8 months. During that time I dropped it 3 times. The first time the screen and digitizer were broken. The display replacement cost me Euro 260. 10 days after the repair, it dropped out of my pocket again. Invariably, it always lands on the screen because the LED cover flips open when it falls. Display glass cracked but digitizer still intact. After the first accident I had ordered a tampered glass screen protector from Hongkong. It arrived only 2,5 months later. When I finally got it and tried to fit it, half the display was unresponsive. When I tried to remove the glass protector the phone slipped out of my hand and dropped on the tiled kitchen floor. Guess what happened. Part of the display AND the glass protector shattered. The lucky part is, the upper right corner of the display which was cracked before got shattered. The display is still useable. I actally got used to the broken display. My hope is that in the new year the price for a new display might come down a bit. As I'm not planning to buy another expensive phone anytime soon, a second display replacement is probably the cheapest option.
Bottomline: Yes the S7E is a bloody fragile phone! Depending on the individual clumsiness, it is virtually impossible to assume that you will never drop it over an extended period. If you want to have solid protection you have to go for these hideous army style covers but they make the phone look like a monsterous thing. I like covers with functionality like the LED or S View covers but they only protect the edges and backside of the phone.
The Bottomline of the bottomline: Maybe I shouldn't have bought such an expensive and fragile phone in the first place. End of story. Cheers LJ
Back near camera cracked on mine even though I've never dropped it, had to put a skin on it to hide the crack. Also it has a mark on the main screen, suspect coinage in my pocket done that
Never used a case, I've had mine since two weeks after the release. I always carry it in my pocket with my keys and other stuff. Dropped it only once, no scratches cracks or any other damage.
Been using Carol Blue for 2 months. I slapped a dbrand skin on the back the 1st week so I can use it naked and not worry about back glass scratches.
At office and work, I go naked. Out and about, I put on spigen rugged case. Very easy to put on and off and slim enough and plenty protection.
The front screen now has few minor scratches on it. No idea how that happened. I'm very careful with my phone.
I just put armorsuit screen protector on it and it works PERFECT. loving the phone and how it feels in the hand. Amazing. I now have dbrand skin on back and screen protector on the front. Totally protected from scratches when going with no case at home and office.
i never ever used a case in my life. it hides the beautiful lines of the device
Take it from someone who has been through the process of having the screen replaced - use protection!
I dropped it on its face, from toilet height (yes, I was on the bog after a long night shift!) and before turning it over I just knew it was bad. You hear 30 seconds of cracking noises as they tear through the display glass slowly whilst you contemplate your stupidity at the 'oh s**t' moment you just found yourself in.
Cost me £50 in excess as I was insured luckily, however with no insurance you're looking at £200 ball park.
I actually had the LED case on at the time. That did naff all in protecting the screen. Flip cases really should have some sort of auto close feature! Might have been enough to save the screen if so!
I always thought about going without anything, but I love the led case to much. I don't know how so many people have broken theirs while also using this case, I've dropped it more times than I can count. Even especially since I typically keep the phone on my lap when driving, so I tend to open the door, stand up, and find it on the asphalt ground.
I still even have the square sticker on the back of my phone. No scratches, no breaks, perfect.
Update : just wanted to update my previous post with this new information. I ordered and received the ArmorSuit screen protector for my S7 Edge. I have never used a wet screen protector before and I have never found an edge screen protector that sticks or works either in the dry form or the tempered glass.
I watched the video on installation. it took me about 10 minutes to put it on. I let it air dry for another 15 minutes then using a hair dryer on low setting I got the sides to easily adhere to the screen. Left it overnight, put on my I-Blason edge case. I have never been so happy as I have with this screen protector on it looks amazing. Edges stick perfectly.
I'm glad to have my screen protected again and the case on ..I just don't think it's worth taking the chance with such an expensive device. I lived on the edge for a few months with nothing on it, but I'm glad I have something back on it now.

I wish I took a picture of the device I just returned. Dropped it and it fell on a rock. Ugly circular crack and a first the phone still functioned but after about a week my screen just went haywire and would only turn on after multiple power on and offs.
It was all bad lol

Incredibly easy to scratch?

So I got a oneplus 3t 2 days ago and took it to college for a day. I was blown away by the whole experience. The speed, camera quality, charging speeds and overall feel to the device really surprised me. After my first day with it, I got home and realized about 10 micro scratches along the bottom of the glass at the curve. I was taken aback because I never have scratches on my phones after over a year of having them and this had a bunch after a day.
My pockets were completely empty (no dust at bottom or anything). Since the scratches were at the top of where it would be in my pocket, I figured maybe a stud on my pants scratched it as I pulled it in or out. Checked my pants and no studs on the pair I was wearing. The phone was in my hands or pocket the entire day. How in the hell did it get scratches from touching soft cloth and flesh all day? Like what the hell, did they make their glass out of the ****tiest glass in the world?
If you don't use a protector, you will get scratches. Sorry!
Strange though, my tempered glass is still flawless, not a scratch on it. If I'd go naked I'm sure I get million scratches within the day.
Why did you go naked? Phone comes with a pre applied screen protector

I agree the screen is VERY soft. I have a few hairline scratches on mine, and that was after day one of taking the plastic protector off (like a dummy).
Mine has dents and scratches all over the phone, lol
Here's a sample video from youtube
Its really a gorilla glass and the back camera is sapphire, its not easy to scratch according to the video
Jerry rig everything did his scratch test and it scratched like any phone at a level 6. But in a pocket you can have anything microscopic. Sand is the number one thing found in pockets and is a killer to any phone even gorilla glass 4 that the 3T has. https://www.youtube.com/shared?ci=24t5yhGvvRs
https://www.youtube.com/shared?ci=j39qdOHHWpk
Mine has a hairline scratch too after 14 days of taking care...
Anyone else who took good care and never layed it facedown on table etc. and it scratched?
I've been using my 3T for a couple of weeks now without a screen protector and the screen is still flawless. I usually keep it in a neoprene pouch when not in use though. I really hate plastic screen protectors, and all of the current offering of glass protectors are too flawed in my opinion.

A plastic screen protector. Sorry not gonna buy a nice phone to have a plastic feel to it.
I have the phone since 28th November and I got no scratch. Have it with me without a case or glass
If you look closely under a lamp you will find scratches, sir.
If not, your eyesight is bad

A Nice phone with a plastic screen protector is better than a nice phone with scratch!

Gorilla Glass 4 actually sacrificed some scratch resistance when compared with Gorilla Glass 3 in order to increase shatter resistance. So if you're coming from GG3 you may notice that.

True lol, and plastic screen protector is very easy to replace and its cheap compare to the CGG4 of oneplus 3T which is expensive due to replacement of the whole screen.
Btw there's no official oneplus physical service centers that will handle it
Many people in my country fall for that stupid mistake
Better micro scratches than original plastic protector that attracts smudges as hell and ruins visual experience in general.
My OP3T is naked from day 1 for more than 2 months now and don't see any scratches. Maybe just because I don't give a damn looking at it closely or with a microscope
everydevice every glass can be scratched at certain level of tourcher if you dont like scratch use the protector always
Has any one thought how many scratches our cars have?? and we dont even care
Is this a phone or what? I use it naked. No scratches or anything. Still... I use it.
Do you just say that because scratches aren't affecting you from using the phone or did you check under some light?
