Well, I see lot's of questions about rooting. Here's a small guide on how to do that.
1. Download the attachment to this post. (upd_1.zip)
2. Put the file on the root of your SD-card. (Not in a folder/directory, but on the top layer.)
3. Power down your phone.
4. Enter recovery mode by holding Home+Power-buttons at the same time.
5. Use the volume key's to scroll through the menu. Select 'Apply update from sd-card'(Could be something else, but looks like this.) Use the home button to aplly function.
6. Use 'Select zip from sd card' to find upd_1.zip on your SD-card.
7. When it asks you if you wanna apply the update, select yes. Use the home button to confirm.
8. Wait for it to finish, then reboot. Your phone is now rooted.
P.S. I'm sorry, but I'm not able to make screenshots/pictures. But, it ain't that hard.
EDIT: If this doesn't work, try Doomlords way. All credits to him off course.DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit
For gingerbread frimware you can also root withDoomlord's Easy Rooting Toolkit.
You can grab it from here:

Tried it, and it didn't work... Don't know why it didn't. Got similar problems as using super one click. It almost looks like the exploit that it uses was closed by samsung. The upd_1.zip is one of the procedures that seems to be working all the time...
But, thanks anyway!
EDIT: The zip does NOT work on the XXKPI stock ROM. This does!!! Thanks!
Some doubts related to rooting !
1. I rooted my current firmware, and now planning to change the firmware (Stock ROMs only), so I should have to repeat the Process again, isn't it? (ie, applying Upd_1.zip file)
2. Does the Custom ROMs comes pre-rooted (CyanogenMod, Vanilla ROM, other ROMs etc) or should have to do the rooting process manually ?
3. Is rooting helpful to move apps like Official Facebook, Twitter, FriendCaster, Yahoo Messenger etc. to SD card? PS:- I'm not using widgets anyway.
Thank you!

You don't need to root your mini to install custom ROMs... as they comes pre-rooted
You can start with emanoN ROM... its still the best choice for me...

Try this link :

Hi all,
Seems like ICS will be delayed and instead of waiting for it, I've decided to install custom ROM. But before doing so, I would like a few comments from XDA SIFUs...
1.Am currently on:
Baseband ver: N7000DXKL2
Kernel ver: 2.6.35.7-N7000DXLA1
Does that means I'm now on LA1 ROM?
2.If so, i understood that it's not directly rootable, thus needed to be downgraded. Referring to Dr Ketan's information, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997, i would like to downgrade to:
N7000DXKL3 ------ -------2011 December-------- N7000OLBKL2
Will that be...KL3 or KL2?
3.Once downgraded using Odin, will it increase the flash counter?
4.After downgraded, can I just use Zergrush exploit method to root my phone?
5.Which custom ROM is recommended?
Thanks in advance...
Regards,

1.You hav not mentioned build version, basically that is your ROM
2.You have showned is KL3, but i recommend this to downgrade
N7000XXKL3 ------ 2.3.6 2011 December-------- N7000ODDKL1 --------------------India
3. this stock ROM, which won't raise counter
4.yes, n if you downgrade to above said ROM (which i hav recommend), select ' I have kernel KL1' N follow procedure from thread 'How to Root..."
5.Sorry here, I never tried any custom ROM

Hi ketan,
I received my SGN yesterday and right away the phone updated itself to LB2 (India).
I felt the need to root immediately to shift my apps from my older custom romed galaxy ace to SGN.
I read up your guide and rooted through odin (PC) which rooted my kernel down to the KJ1 version. After the customary reboot everything seemed ok - it showed superuser+CWM in app list. Then the pixellated screen began appearing after the screen off. I could only come out of it by removing battery.
On searching these forums i found some posts on pixellated screen caused by certain custom kernels in SGN. I thought that may be the kernel was being incompatiable with my SGN hardware . Then i downloaded the latest stock rom (LC1 - open europe) and tried flashing the new rom using CWM - but surprisingly the CWM prompted for the CSC file only in the firmware folder. It didnt ask for code and modem files. Still i went ahead with the installation and the CWM installed the new rom with apparently no problems - still the kernel is showing KJ1 after this and again the pixxelation problem is still there.
Iam no expert but i think the kernel KJ1 is the problem
(my baseband version is XXLB2)
Present status
Android version 2.3.6
Kernel Version 2.6.35.7 - ....KJ1 -CL627135
Build number GB.XXLC1
Can i retain my root and upgrade my kernel and get rid of this pixxelation problem ?
Is there an good way to do this ?

If you need a full stock rom you must flash through odin.Flashing through CWM will keep the kernel the same so you have the problem continuing.Flash the rom using PC odin and the problem will be solved

Hello,
Just a bit of background - have had my galaxy I-9000 for 1-2 years now, had been running dramatically slow, so upgraded it to 2.3.6 (GINGERBREAD.XWJW6) & it runs a lot faster. Unfortunately, it has many more "optus apps" which I detest.
I'm looking to "reboot" the phone - which from reading some threads means "rooting" the phone. My questions relating to this are:
1. If I 'root' the phone, will my contacts/messages be retained, or is it a complete wipe of the phone
2. How exactly do I 'root' the phone? Is there a thread that shows you (I've seen threads, but they are technical, & I become confused when they start mentioning roms etc)
Furthermore, as far as I've read, after you 'root' your phone, you have to install a ROM, for example "SLIM ICS" (what's ICS stand for?)
I've also read, but I'm not sure that because the firmware I've upgraded to is relatively new - that 'rooting' is not yet available? Is this also true?
Thanks for your help =)
1. Rooting doesn't wipe anything. Maybe cache or/and dalvik cache uf you flash with cwm.
2. Look for cf-root kernel thread.
There is a step-by-step guide and the needed rooted kernels.
You will need, Odin, the kernel.tar file and the phones Downloadmode (volume down + home + power)

Hello again,
Well my phone seems to have shat itself? It comes up with the "black screen of death," but I have been able to get to the downloadable screen.
I wanted to know how to recover it, I am no tech wizard, but this is the stuff I have:
- ODIN v1.85
Please tell me what else I need, I'm guessing a ROM?
I will be forever grateful, thanks
if you have the download mode, you have to flash properly the GB JVU, then to flash the CF root for JVU to become root and have access to CWM. then you can upgread to ICS

here the link for jvu
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/xxjvu/
good luck
Thank you!
I'm following it step by step (downloading the XJVU 200meg file at the moment)
I will let you know about my progress
you need the three files, for phone, pda and csc. And you also need the pit file, and the cf_root file.
So an update!!!
Black screen of death, diverted!!! (phew)
Flashed to 2.3.6 XXJVU
Rooted it as well
Now looking for a ROM to put in...
Now because I'm on 2.3.6, does that mean I can only get the "SURFACE" ROM? What's the advantage of changing ROMS anyway?
Cheers

If you want to flash slim just go to slim website, and follow the instructions, take your time, and make sure you read and follow the instructions, any problems then post on the slim thread, I will keep an eye out for you
I'm glad for you thiolus. Cm9 or slim are good. I'm on cna by franzy and i think it's a very good rom on ics
Another update guys!
Well I flashed it, then rooted it (see now I'm using proper lingo =P) XXJVU
Then finally put on CM7 which makes everything faster, for now I think it is okay, although I think I will update it later as I want more whizzbang!
Another problem I encountered was getting all the contacts, kies saved as SPD file which wasn't recognised - had to save it as VCR/vcard file, then merge all of it together into one file - I learned how to use DOS too!
So literally 8 hours later (slept at 430 am, now its 730 =P) this is it for now, thanks everyone for helping so much

flash a rooting kernel, either CF Root JW6 or semaphore GB from My Android Collections
Hi,
Few days back I updated my phone from 2.3.3 to 2.6.6 using kies.
Then I flashed cf - root kernel using odin and after that i flashed semaphore 2.7.4 kernel for voodoo sound.
Until before that I have never used odin or flashed anything. And my firmware is official update through kies.ONlY my kernel is non stock.
My phones warranty period is Over.So leaving footprints of previous root and all are not so much of a concern. But I need to complete remove the root and flash back to stock kernel.
Is there any way to do it without flashing a ROM.Flashing kernels are okay.
I want to unroot because rooted phone is not of any use to me and also since I am a noob I dont want any viruses or aps accessing the root and doing undesired stuff(like messing imei and all that)
what i mean is i dont want anything to access my root(like nothing would access the root of a phone out of box)
Kindly help me with something that does not need to flash a ROM(if possible). I really get panicked at these thing.
PS: I guess doing uninstall root from that SuperSU app wont remove the root actually.
also please guide me to the "easiest"( i am a noob) yet "effective" way to backup the imei of my phone.(i9000 gt gingerbread)
You probably mean 2.3.6 not 2.6.6 but i'm not sure is it possible to completely remove root without flashing stock rom again. Otherwise you can just disable root access in super user app
---------- Post added at 09:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:46 PM ----------
Oh now i remember! You can download z4root app and there's an option to remove root but i don't know does it work

1) you can Flash back your original stock kernel, same version as your Rom, using Odin from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881
2) you can use unrooting apps from the market or this tool from your computer http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1761556 or this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1770816 many more found at my signature Collections for android

I got a problem with this rom I dont know if it is something eybee1970 write in it so i can't go to another rom but its frustrating.
I want to go to de paraniodandrod rom but everytime i want to flash, after a full wipe of all, it gives me the error status 7.
It has something to do with version check i think.
How can i fix this because i dont want to be stuck on this rom..

Yes, even reroot it..
I've done some searching and its either the zip file is corrupt. Or other with this problem have reported that updating cwm to the newest available and then flash fixes this problem.
ie flash another kernel. Bear in mind you'll have to keep a copy of the phills jb to ree flash if it doesn't work cos rocket Rom probably won't load without it.
Hope this helps

Yeah your right their but I'm guessing if you flash another kernel reboot into recovery and flash a new Rom it will work. Other people with this problem with error 7 report changing cwm /kernel and it flashed.
Edit. I wonder if lots of other people will experience this issue now cos i haven't even though about flashing another Rom yet from rocket Rom JB lol

i guess i have read a few more threads with the same issue. on JB .. then tried to install CM9 or Black CNA and it dint work.. then OP moved to stock rom and then flashed the rom
