How big is chance of brick when installing Custom rom - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I've flashed the cm9 custom rom beta 9 and 10 now. And I began to wonder, how big is the chance that you actually brick your phone while flashing? And if you do, is there a way to fix it?
Because I see people saying they flash roms every day. But is I have seen people saying they bricked they're phone while flashing. Or did they get it bricked because they did something wrong?
I'd like to know more about the risks of flashing roms, I wouldn't like (hard) bricking my ace

If you don't try to flash ROMs from another phone and flash using the instructions you'll be fine

Try to replace your kernel with speedmod k3-3 then factory reset your phone. I was having the same problem and now is gone.
Why dont you go back to GB and start over from beginning.
Lol because i just broke my computer's hard drive. Anyway how do i go back to gb? If i want to?

select any pre-rooted Gb (me, KJ1), n simply flash it thru PC Odin.

paranoidandroid question

Hi all, i was wondering why i can't just use mobile odin to flash PA on my gnote.
I actually have CM9 RC installed. In the official Thread the guide says "DO NOT
WIPE WITH STOCK SAMSUNG ROM OR CUSTOM ROMS LIKE CM9"...so here is my question, whats the need of Mobile odin? i thought i was a fastest way to flash roms without do the same process all the times...
Im' new to this world, please be kind guys:silly:

You can't flash another ROM from any ICS-based ROM. Some Samsung ICS kernels cause a so called brick bug, which causes your device to brick (read: it won't boot anymore) because Samsung ****ed something up with the internal memory. If you do a full wipe while on a stock or aosp ROM, you risk bricking your device.
The fastest way (it's not really fast tho) to flash other ROM's at this moment is to revert back to a gingerbread rom, root it, get CWM (clockworkmod recovery) and flash your ROM from recovery or odin, whatever you like.
You're now on a ICS based rom (CM9), which means if you attemt to flash another rom now and you need to do a full wipe, chances are you'll end up with a bricked phone.
Try the "revert back to Gingerbread" method to be sure you will not brick your device. There are plenty of tutorials around here to help you along with this method.

So if i understood the issue at the moment its just caused by samsung right? I mean if they are going TO fix this software bug we Will have the chance TO flash directly from mobile odin?

No, it needs to be flashed with cwm. You'll get an unsigned zip error if you try with mobile odin and flash will fail. Follow instructions on all roms and you won't have any problems.

Super Bricked My Galaxy Note (Binary Count =0)

I super bricked (no download mode or recovery mode) my Galaxy Note while restoring from CWM backup last night, I had LP8 installed, binary count is 0.
I have already sent it to the Samsung Service Center, question is: what should I expect??
FYI : My motherboard had been replaced 2 times already earlier due to emmc bug.

What on earth are you doing to consistently brick it? If you're under warranty then you should be ok - given that the emmc is a known issue which they're aware of..
On a side note, I'd suggest not being so flash happy and a little more reading before you mess around..
Good luck..

I was tryin to get navigation bar like that in Nexus, had created a backup if smthin went wrong, I haven't flashed any custom ROM, and ya its under warranty, and I have decided I'll be buying only Nexus series from now on
Good thing you have warranty, but still bricking it 3 times now, I wouldn't want my device on the service center it's inconvenient and really not worth wasting my time, I'd rather be very careful flashing than going to the service center for repairs. But anyways that's my opinion. It's your device and you can do whatever you want with it
Please have a look here, before you transform your note into a brick... for the 4th time

No I didn't do it on purpose, I had followed steps for flashing ParanoidAndroid ROM, I flashed a stock GB ROM as asked, but in both attempts I got my phone soft bricked, is there any guide you can suggest for a fool-proof way of flashing without bricking??

Than I guess I'll have to stick with the stock ROM and wait for next Nexus to be launched, I had GSII previously and flashed ROMs without any worry, and fyi I did follow every instructions, I'm not a noob

There is a safe way to flash, this is why a lot of people do it successfully...
My thoughts are that you followed instruction to a degree.. If you're on a Stock GB there's no fear of Brickbug at all...
I am wondering if you flashed Abyss in ICS - or did not reboot recovery after installing Abyss....
Which steps did you follow and which ROM, I've flashed PA without issue after downgrading to GB via PC ODIN, Rooting with SpeedMod and then flashing PA..

I don't think Galaxy Nexus is coming to India ever. You should probably get it imported or ask some relative to get it for you.

You did not follow the steps.
Stock ICS kernel had the bug that will brick your phone.
Always instal a safe kennel, reboot into recovery and then wipe, then instal new ROM

Restoring in cwm under ics kernel triggers brick bug. This has been documented since the bug was found and is all outlined in the stickies all over the forum. I'm sorry but I have no sympathy for someone bricking for a third time, there's just no excuse for this short sightedness.

You can flash cm 10 from ics. Did it a thousand times. But if you want to be sure you can flash first cm9 than cm10.

Never flash from stock ics kernel, make sure you have a safe kernel before doing anything.
