you will need root for this to work
what type of file system's permission you want to set
type this command in terminal "mount -o remount,rw /partition mount point
partition mount point:-
sdcard:- /mnt/sdcard
system:- /system
userdata:- /data
cache:- /cache
to make read-only change rw to ro in the commans

Lol sdcards are always mounted as r/w why would anyone want it to be r/o?
J.Paul already answered.

sdcards permission can be changed but their files permission cannot be changed and I had written about sdcard

Music Apk

This one can be installed to replace.
http://development.piratemedia.tv/2010-06-06-music-mod-v1-6-mdpi-hdpi/
How to...
Copy the apk to your sdcard. Now for some commands.
Code:
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
rm /system/app/Music.apk
rm /system/app/Music.odex
cp /sdcard/Music.apk /system/app/
chmod 644 /system/app/Music.apk
reboot
That should give you the new music.apk. I had to reboot for the apk to take. Let me know if anyone finds anything else.

looks nice but I *think* it requires root. Also read something about being pushed through AVD so it could be that instead.
It does require root. But well worth it imo

another easy way to do this is to download the sdx app remover
http://roc-city.com/android/SdxAppRemoval-1.5.apk
it creates a folder on your sdcard called sdx, put the file into /sdcard/sdx/backup/app
the app will be listed, just check it and click restore app and it will install it under /system/app

Couldnt install any. Parsing error using File Expert. Noobish so I could be doing something wrong.
mounted system/apps to RW
Copied apk into directory. Modified permissions on APK file
rebooted.
Apps not installed
Trying installing from File Expert and get the parsing error.
Am I doing something wrong?
i just threw together a quick KJ3 build with as many apps as seemed logical, and the only things that would even show up on a gingerbread rom were maps<br>
market (couldnt setup account though because of gmail)<br>
plus. (no account setup)<br>
live wallpapers (most if not all)<br>
videos.<br>earth. <br>
browser<div>music</div><div>google search box (showed on desktop but Force close constantly)<br>
<br>
<br>
no <br>
phone<br>
contacts.<br>
camera/email<br>
gmail (no account setup either)<br>
launcher<br>
bluethooth<br>
video editor<br>
everything else...<br>
<br>
they just wont work, at least yet...</div>
The only thing I have got to work was new gplus

Dude check this one out, but remember to unmount the system in CWM .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1317542
ICS keyboard installation...
- download this file
- put on sdcard
- use root explorer to move .apk to /system/app, dont forget to click the "Mount -
R/W" button at the top right corner while in /system/app folder
- long press on apk once moved, select set permissions check the top box under
"read" and the top box under "write" leave the others how they were.
- reboot and tada!
Didn't work Mr. Bean.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
u probably didnt set the permissions correctly, all of the boxes should be checked BESIDES the last box under the "WRITE" colum. None of the special permission boxes should be checked.
I'm assuming you have to at least rename the apk file, before moving it to system app... correct me if i'm wrong
no you dont have to rename anything.
Didn't work

*shrug* works for me.
post a pic of your permissions?
what rom are you on?

Its because your emmc is mounted to mnt\emmc. Just use ics binder from playstore and unmount the original point. Rescan the library and it will be fine.

Problam with ext4+swap SDE

Hi I'm using SDE with Alfs CM7 8a kernel.
But swap partition is not mounted with every boot and I should enable it manually with typing "swapon -a" in terminal.
I've also flashed Pilu's "swapenabler.zip" but it doesn't work too.
Is there any way to enable it automatically wih every boot?
Again I have problem with ext4 partition I've installed Link2sd on my phone and installed it's ext4 mount script but as you can see in the screenshot below it is not mounted with every boot.
But how to fix that?

Thanks bro.
But I'm looking for a real solution, not third party apps.
I'm looking for a way to mount ext4 and swap partition at every boot on SDE with Alfs CM7 8a.
Clear?

Duh! That is a solution.. Else you can edit the init scripts yourself (what the swapper app does) and mount your partitions.

They could be related.. Try swapper first and see if your ext4 partition automagically mounts..
