telephony.lteOnCdmaDevice = 0
ro.mot.phonemode.vzwglobalphone = 1
ro.telephony.default_network = 3
ro.telephony.gsm-routes-us-smsc = 0
You should now be able to access Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> More -> Mobile networks and set up the appropriate APNs for your carrier, if the phone does not already have them.
If you're never intending to use the phone on Verizon, you can get rid of the "this SIM is from an unknown source" error by opening terminal emulator and running:
su
cd /system/app
mv VzwPhoneService.apk VzwPhoneService.bak
You may as well do the same with VzwController.apk VzwDeviceSetup.apk VzwEntitlementService.apk and vzwapnpermission.apk

Depending on which ROM you choose, this stuff may still be there as it's required for CDMA functionality.
If you get a "this SIM is from an unknown source" error. You need to remove those files.

According to others they work. I've not tried it personally.
I think Olegfusion has found some more tweaks. He told me them on IRC but I forgot to write them down >.<

ro.telephony.default_network=3

Like many, I have CM installed on the Touchpad, with that frakking wifi problem plaguing me.
I don't mind redoing my connection every time I take the tablet; however where is the wifi settings "kept" in the file system? I need to delete the profile in order to redo the connection.
Can someone help? There are so many bazillion posts mentioning wifi that nothing of value can be found.
you can see the wifi settings in settings>wireless and networks>wifi settings and you can make your touchpad forget the connection settings by holding on the name of the connection and hitting forget on the pop up. after that you connect to your connection as if for the first time.

Yep I tried doing that, and I have Force Close problems on the Wi-Fi menu, when the device does not connect. It's as if internally, there is a loop of something happening.
I thought somewhere in the filesystem bowels, there is a way to delete it "directly" without going via the UI. Thanks for trying to help, I appreciate it
Anyone knows if there is such a file somewhere?
i had this problem two days ago. i changed the channel of my router to 2 and restarted my touchpad into webos and back into android and made my touchpad to forget the network and reconnected it and i don't know what happened but that worked. wish i could be of more help to you, hope you get it working sooner so you could enjoy the android goodness.
don't where where it lives on the filesystem, but this app does it: market.android.com/details?id=com.brilliapps.wifiandmorefixer

HOW DO I CLEAR OUT *ALL* MY WIFI SETTINGS AND START FRESH?
If you find that your wifi is "strobing" on and off, or you wish to completely wipe out all wifi settings, you can do this in one of three ways:
THE "RIGHT" WAY (USING ADB):
adb shell rm -rf /data/misc/wifi && reboot
(this will remove the settings and then force a reboot)
THE "I-DON'T HAVE ADB INSTALLED" WAY:
From the Terminal app.
# rm -rf /data/misc/wifi && reboot
(similar command as above. The # is a prompt-- don't type that part. If you see a $ prompt instead, type "su" (no quotes) and it should become a #)

true. I'm with ya, just throwing it out there. ADB would be the preferred method but for those that are not familiar with ADB, then an app would be easier, although i don't know if that app is doing the same thing as the ADB approach. if it is then win-win. if not, and problems still exsist, then ADB is an alternative approach.

As always I'm here to insist that data is data, here is a tethering mod for the Tmobile S6.
About:
What this does: It bypasses the provisioning check, switches your apn to ipv4, (required for tethering) and changes your tethering APN to the normal data APN.
What it does not do: It will not hide your browser headers from t-mobile, if they detect that you are using a desktop browser, you will see it deduct from your tethering balance. Use a User Agent Spoofer to work around this.
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Prerequisites:
You should have a computer with adb, and your phone should be rooted and have busybox installed.
Click to expand...

Installation instructions:
Manual via adb:
Download the attached apk, and open a command prompt in the location you have saved it to.
Installing the new Tethering Provision apk:
Code:
adb push TetheringProvision.apk /sdcard/
adb shell
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
cp /sdcard/TetheringProvision.apk /system/app/TetheringProvision/
chmod 644 /system/app/TetheringProvision/TetheringProvision.apk
(The following command only needs to be run if you are on a stock odexed rom.)
Code:
rm -R /system/app/TetheringProvision/arm64
After installation you MUST reboot for the new tethering provision apk to be seen.
Setting proper APN settings, (you will need busybox for this part):
Code:
adb shell
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
sed -i 's/pcweb.tmobile/fast.t-mobile/' /system/csc/customer.xml
sed -i 's/ipv6/ipv4/' /system/csc/customer.xml
Once you have configured the above, you MUST reset apn settings (Settings > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > More > Reset to default )

Sounds like the ipv6 -> ipv4 change on the APNs didn't stick.
Look at your apns, can you see if they are set to ipv4 or ipv6?

Also, what is the output of:

This is my first time using dos since the very first time (and only time) I used it about 2 years ago. I did mess up on the command prompt for customer.xml and typed fast instead of fast but I went to the xml and ficed the typo. Is it possible that tmobile needs to be t-mobile? If so, how do I go back and fix that.
Thanks for getting back to me tonight. Tethering is a HUGE priority for me so I appreciate the help.

I added an APN for tethering based on the other thread in QnA so I'm not sure why it isn't showing. I'm tethered now with wifi router whoever. But it's slow so I'm hoping native can be better.

Everything seems to be good to go. I think I confused myself trying to work through this is the middle of the night
Thanks for this. Do we still use the T-Mobile hotspot app? And my wifi calling seems to be broken after this. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Step 1: Getting the signal.
First, you need to edit your build.prop and add the lines:
Code:
ro.telephony.default_network=3
ro.ril.def.preferred.network=3
ro.telephony.default_network1=3
ro.ril.def.preferred.network1=3
Then you must reboot.
Sometimes, you may get the network signal already. But you still need to do the next steps. You also need root.
Open Terminal (Download Material Terminal) and type line by line:
Code:
su
settings put global preferred_network_mode 3
settings put global preferred_network_mode1 3
stop ril-daemon
start ril-daemon
Check whether you get the network after this. If you don't make sure you did the steps properly.
Step 2: Making the setting stick
This method requires use of /sbin/.core/img/.core/service.d so it requires Magisk, obviously.
1. Go to /sbin/.core/img/.core/service.d directory
2. Create a file with the name "99ril"
3. Put the following lines in the file:
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
sleep 240
settings put global preferred_network_mode 3
settings put global preferred_network_mode1 3
stop ril-daemon
start ril-daemon
4. Save it and change the permission of the file to 755.
5. Reboot. You should get network signal after few minutes (approximately 4).
6. Done
Feel free to give your feedback below and also press 'Thanks' if it helped.

I have an L720, (KK, 4.4.2 - stock NAE/Mdc modem), that I finally got unlocked, works with Tmob sim but for some reason its not picking up the Metropcs sim card. Even Tmob shop said its unlocked and would work. Do you think these settings changes would get it going on Metro? Not my primary device so I can tinker with it, and try whatever... Any suggestions wd be appreciated.

This tutorial was originally posted by me in here. Thought I would share it to the wider public:
Step 1: Getting the signal.
First, you need to edit your build.prop and add the lines:
Code:
ro.telephony.default_network=3
ro.ril.def.preferred.network=3
ro.telephony.default_network1=3
ro.ril.def.preferred.network1=3

Sometimes, you may get the network signal already. But still you need to do the next steps. You need root.
Open Terminal (Download Material Terminal) and type line by line:
Code:
su
settings put global preferred_network_mode 3
settings put global preferred_network_mode1 3
stop ril-daemon
start ril-daemon
You will get the network after this.
Step 2: Making the setting stick
Method 1 (Not guaranteed to work always):
If you are using an Oreo ROM, this is the detailed procedure and for the users of other ROMs, you may visit similar settings within your ROM:
1. Go to Settings>Network&Internet>Mobile Network>Advanced. Don't do any thing more.
2. Go back to Terminal and enter the same thing as before.
DONE!
You may want to save this code as Favourite Command in Material Terminal options so that you could use it in one tap if network goes away anytime in future. You need to follow the exact steps else settings won't stick after reboot.
Your settings will reset again if you visit the same settings menu(Mobile Network settings) as I told in the steps above. So avoid going into that.
Method 2 (Guranteed to work always):
This method requires use of /magisk/.core/service.d so it requires Magisk, obviously.
1. Go to /magisk/.core/service.d directory
2. Create a file with the name "99ril"
3. Put the following lines in the file:
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
sleep 20
settings put global preferred_network_mode 3
settings put global preferred_network_mode1 3
stop ril-daemon
start ril-daemon
4. Save it and change the permission of the file to 755.
5. Reboot. You will get network signal after a minute.
6. Done

Thanks. Just to confirm, I'm using an Indian Telecom Operator (Airtel) SIM here in the US. On my previous Custom ROM installs, the phone usually picks up either AT&T or T-Mobile HSPA/3G.
Also, this Sprint phone was unlocked both domestic and international.
Your method would still work? Please let me know.

As long as it is a GSM sim, it will work. Just make sure you follow the steps properly. Also click "Thanks" button if it helped you.
Still no change.
Also, once codes are entered on Terminal Emulator app, is it supposed to do something? After entering the codes, it goes to the next line for me to either enter 'exit' or manually close the app.
One other thing, I found that my Baseband is on NG5 (4.4.2 )and Bootloader is at PL1 (5.0.1). I know it was a requirement on the first page to have the both Baseband and Bootloader over 5.0 but unable to do so. Tried to Odin OD2 both Baseband and Bootloader, did not work. tried with PL1 Modem only and still doesn't stick.

Enter *#*#4636#*#* in dial pad. Then go to Phone Information when the menu shows up. Then from there choose "GSM only" in Set Preferred Network Type. Then go back and again go to this menu. Does the setting change back to same as before or it stays as "GSM only"?

Excellent write-up! Worked perfectly on my 720T, running PACman 5.1.1 with MK5 modem.
Thank you so much for this. My network worked within 1 min. I am using [JDCTeam] Optimized LineageOS 15.1 Version 6.
The steps are also very nicely written for a noob like me. For the permissions (755) it would be Owner check mark for r, w and x; Group check mark for r and x; Public is r and x. Rest is all uncheck.
Here is a list of the networks
Code:
// NETWORK_MODE_* See ril.h RIL_REQUEST_SET_PREFERRED_NETWORK_TYPE
int NETWORK_MODE_WCDMA_PREF = 0; // GSM/WCDMA (WCDMA preferred)
int NETWORK_MODE_GSM_ONLY = 1; // GSM only
int NETWORK_MODE_WCDMA_ONLY = 2; // WCDMA only
int NETWORK_MODE_GSM_UMTS = 3; // GSM/WCDMA (auto mode, according to PRL)**
int NETWORK_MODE_CDMA = 4; // CDMA and EvDo (auto mode, according to PRL)**
int NETWORK_MODE_CDMA_NO_EVDO = 5; // CDMA only
int NETWORK_MODE_EVDO_NO_CDMA = 6; // EvDo only
int NETWORK_MODE_GLOBAL = 7; // GSM/WCDMA, CDMA, and EvDo (auto mode, according to PRL)**
int NETWORK_MODE_LTE_CDMA_EVDO = 8; // LTE, CDMA and EvDo
int NETWORK_MODE_LTE_GSM_WCDMA = 9; // LTE, GSM/WCDMA
int NETWORK_MODE_LTE_CDMA_EVDO_GSM_WCDMA = 10; // LTE, CDMA, EvDo, GSM/WCDMA

this helped to get 2g-3g working, but LTE does not work. Under phone info from the dial pad the only way to get connection to work is by choosing preferred network type that Is GSM, but LTE will not work. If I switch to LTE under mobile network settings it automatically switches to sprint attempted connections that will not work. Anyway to get LTE with GSM?
I am using l720t s4 with lineage 16 JDCteam custom rom.

these instructions only work if you have that "band"/signal and it is "consistently stable" in your location. For example, if you are in a mall and underground nothing is going to help you until you get out from underground and can catch constant signal. This solution is more for people that have constant signal availabe but the radio is not "sticking" to the preferred band.
Hi guys,
This is a simple guide for changing the 4g icons to LTE or the way around
Requirements:
* ADB, you can download it here
* Bootloader: I don' t know if this guide works with bootloader locked, I tried with the unlocked one
Make sure that your device can be recognized by PC
FOR SHOWING LTE INSTEAD OF 4G:
Code:
[CENTER]adb shell
settings put system hw_show_lte "mcccodeofcountry;260"[/CENTER]
FOR SHOWING 4G INSTEAD OF LTE:
Code:
[CENTER]adb shell
settings put system hw_show_lte "260"[/CENTER]
Best Regards !
Works in Android 9 Stock?
Pls give me an example, what i have to put here?
"mcccodeofcountry;260"

You can edit hw_default.xml on cust for that, you can show 4.5G if you want it to.
But doesn't means that is true.
You can e in 4G zone but no LTE.
Example my icon shows 4Glte because is on 4G network with LTE.
Huawe have a prop written wrong, i fixed and stars to show like this.
I can't remember for sure but i think is this
persist.volte_enabled_by_hw=1
.

Hi, I don't know if this information is still useful for you.
I have a P20 pro running on EMUI 8.1 and the device no longer displays "LTE+" anymore after I changed my device model from L04(Canada) to L09(Europe).
This method works for me.
For the Mobile Country Code(MCC) you can find it in this link. Open the link then try to find your country.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_country_code
For example, I'm in Canada and my Mobile Country Code(MCC) is 302.
So, I will input something like this in my terminal
settings put system hw_show_lte "302;260"
then reboot the device.
Some findings:
1. After I changed MCC to 302, the device doesn't display "LTE+" anymore.
2. I tried 310(US) and my device displays "4G+" icon, not “LTE” or "LTE+"(Maybe every country is different).

I have to put the quotes? You have put a number after your MCC, what is it?

Yes, you have to put the quotes. I don't know what 260 means. I just follow the instruction form DarkJoker360.
settings put system hw_show_lte "mcccodeofcountry;260" This is the DarkJoker360's original command.
settings put system hw_show_lte "302;260" Then I changed mcccodeofcountry to the actual number
Hi guys,
nedd your support, unfortunately to enable tethering with my carrier (italian coopvoce) I have to set the APN type as "default,supl,dun".
But when I try to set the "dun" type, while saving the APN, I get this error "the carrier is not allowing to create dun APN".
I've also aked for support to the carrier and they are confirming that there's no constraint about setting dun and dun is required to enable tethering . I've tried with other phones wht my SIM and I can create APN with dun ...
So I'm lost.
I've have a second SIM (italian TIM business) and tethering seems to work fine.
Any suggestion ?
I had the same problem with Ho.mobile, solved with this guide:
https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xper...te-to-Android-7-0-Xperia-Z5/td-p/1208290#gref
Basically you need to open a shell via ADB on the phone (a PC is required...) and give this command:
Code:
settings put global tether_dun_required 0
from now on you don't need 'dun' in the APN type in order to enable tethering...
Hope this helps
/M
