As stated in the title, this thread is for people going on vacation/traveling to places. Post your quires about a city or country here. Need some recommendations of places to visit, post here.
I'll start, since I'm going to New York, Philadelphia New Jersey and Boston next month, I need some recommendations of some places to go. I will be going with my family, so any places that are family friendly will be welcome.

I think it's got something to do with taking time off work and then travelling to places where you don't normally live. Rumour has it people crowd into public transport and onto planes, and then arrive at even more crowded places to spend a week or two crowding into 'tourist attractions' and queuing to see things.
And they pay a lot of money to do this.

You forgot to mention how most of them go to places that have lots of neon and alcohol, and they spend their time looking for native food establishments that serve the food they eat when they're not vacationing.

Strange isn't it? When i drank i could usually find a pub/restaurant/shop within a mile or two of where i lived. Never had to jump on a plane to find alcohol. Or food for that matter!
Apparently some people go for the 'sun'. Funny thing is, i've noticed that the sun often comes to me, wherever i am at the time. They'll kick themselves when they find that out!
Also, i hate the sun. Travel Agents should sell 'Rain Breaks'. Perhaps a week or two to the Amazon during monsoon season. Now that i could get on board with!

I usually just go to Joliet & Chicago IL to see my cousins. Besides that, the last vacation I was on was going with my roommate and her friend to Shenandoah Valley for Xmas a few years ago. If you have never been on a snowboard, and you get high just before, you're gonna have a bad time.

Hi, I'm mostly active in the htc rezound forums but I just want some perspective from someone who knows about my situation.
Here's what happened.. I was traveling home from a town an hour out. My wife, infant son, and I were all in the car. I saw cars ahead pulled over and people outside theirs cars, so instinctively I attempt to slow down.. Big mistake.. The road was all black ice and I instantly began to spin sideways. I was only able to slightly correct the car and still ended up going off the side of the road at 70mph (going the speed limit) . We flipped about 2 3/4 times landing on the passenger side.
Everyone was ok, baby was still asleep
Anyways, I am only insured with liability.
My car was paid off, but now I'm stuck without a car, no way to get to and from anywhere. I don't know anyone in my area besides Co workers and I need a car.
Is there any thing I can do to squeeze some very needed money out of this situation? I will probably get about 300 for the totaled out car. I feel so wronged like I was jipped out of my car and almost lost my life and/or family
Anyone who has had something like this happen (icy roads) I need some advice please. There was nothing I could do, there was no salt on the road, multiple accidents occurred before they finally shut down the highway a few miles back.
Any feedback is appreciated

Yes and yes, made an insurance claim.. I'm waiting on a call from the agent now. I told them about the ambulance ride we received and that they checked out all three of us at the hospital.

Just seeing if anyone else has been in this situation.. Not looking for insurance fraud or advice on suing the city. Just maybe if there's any other type of claim I can file... Like I said I just feel wronged because the roads should have been maintained.. The last time there was precipitation was about 5 hours before the accident.. It just seems like there should have been some type of warning or precautions or something :/

Well, my sister got hit by a Oakland city bus. She is ok now, it knocked her off her bike, bad cut on her elbow, and a dislocated shoulder. It was clear it was the bus drivers fault. Witnesses and everything. Despite all this the lawyer says it's still going to take at least a year for her to see any money, probably longer. The moral of the story, getting money from a city is no easy or short process.

I doubt you're going to get any kind of money since you only have liability and black ice probably falls under an act of nature or some such. I don't see how the city would be on the hook for anything.
I don't think the city is liable to pay anything, though maybe you can squeeze out some more money from the insurance company.
If you have a lawyer friend, have him read all the clauses, terms, conditions etc of the insurance agreement and see if there is any scope.
Insurance companies only pay the depreciated value of your car. You need to check up whether the depreciated value of your car is what they are paying you.
Having your insurance claim fully accepted is rare. Best of luck.

There is probably nothing you can do and no additional money you can get. Having liability only is a dangerous game imo, full coverage can save your butt.
Hind sight is 20/20. Considering you have a family with a very small child, you should have had planned better for this. Liability only is for those who know if their car is wrecked, it isn't worth fixing and have money available for another car if something happens.
I have always carried full coverage on paid off cars since I hit a deer when I was 17.
Best bet is to buy another car. If you have really bad credit, best chance is probably drive time

I recently got $300 for designing 2 websites, and as the title states, what should I buy with it? Obviously it's what I want(hehe I knew someone was going to say that) but I would love to hear you guys' opinions. It has to be something non-phone related as I am in my crucial years of high school plus if I get a phone I will become addicted to it. Oh and I have a flip phone:laugh:
I already have a laptop w/Windows 8+Hackintosh dual booting and with good specs so not really in need of a laptop or desktop(Already have a family PC that I built and it plays today's.games at medium-high @1080p).

I don't know about your situation and if you're going to college and if financial aid/parents/etc will cover your costs - but that $300 will be eaten up very quickly and it's fantastic to be able to start saving before you get there if you're not getting "all expenses paid and more".
Of course, it's always nice to treat yourself! You said no phones, but what about something cheap like a Nexus One ? Buy that, save the rest. You will find a smartphone VERY useful for college, especially if you will be moving out and doubly so if you're going to be in a new area. Learn to use it now and be ready!

Thanks, but I have a Tablet that I share with my brother(stays with him most of the time anyways) and I do have experience with smartphones. I had an iPhone 3GS and a Galaxy S2 and I did do quite a lot of flashing with the latter.

Have you tried going to a citizens advice agency? (Not sure of the american equivalent) they will be able to give you advice better to your local situation. Also they may be able to help you write up your c.v (resumae?) to the best it can be so you can apply for other jobs.
Have you thought about trying for a flat share to save on the cost of rent?
Also shopping at dollar stores should help you push the cost of food/living down. Planning your meals ahead will also help, buying cheap and in bulk where possible ect.
As far as getting another job is concerned once you have made up a great c.v (resumae) print off a load of them, (use a library printer if you don't have your own) and put them into every job/shop that you see to help spread your availability about
the thing to remember is that you are still young, especially from an american point of view (under 21) and things will always be tough trying to make it in a new area/city on a low income job. But things will get easier, you will start to learn where is the cheapest to buy your food/house goods and the more you put your c.v (resumae) out the more likely you are to get hired by other places
Keep your chin up pal, its achieveable, the nice house and the great food. It just takes time and a lot of effort

a flat share in the uk is where 2 people would move into the same accommodation in order to pay less rent individually, as it's split 2 ways. people usually advertise that they are looking for flat-mates in local newspapers ect. Like this

If you look around, you can find a room in Brooklyn for $400. Kind of hard, but hey can be found.
Also, look around on Craigslist for small gigs that can get you some more cash.

Dude. Bay Ridge, Brooklyn Heights, and Park Slope are just a few of the great, nice neighborhoods in Brooklyn. Seriously, visit any one of them and you'll see what I'm talking about. Walk on Shore Road in Bay Ridge and you'll see what I mean.

I got one more semester at kingsborough. Lol. Hopefully go to city college after that.
Don't understand why anyone from SI would crap on other boroughs, since they live in the worst piece of land in the north east. Even Jersey isn't that bad, though it is at close second.
