After updating to 2.2, I found that I can no longer update or load certain apps from the Android market on my AT&T Captivate. It appears that the phone is seen by the market as an AT&T phone and that certain apps will not download.
I read in a post that using Market Access to change the code to Verizon would do the trick but am not able to figure how to do that.
I also installed Market enabler but that does not work, or I have done something wrong.
I have tried setting the phone to download from unknown sources and now the new Amazon Appstore works but has done nothing for the Android market.
Any suggestions would be appreciated
Is there any way to trigger the update to the latest Android Market APK ?
It updated itself automatically a few days ago while I was running on KG3, but I flashed JVR yesterday and since then, it doesn't seem to want to update...
Nope. But you can download the newest market apk yourself. Just google for it.
knowledge is Power. Guard it well.
Manually update it! Just search for the latest market Apk on Google and after downloading it just install it! Btw I had the link saved somewhere if I find it ill provide you with it!

Dont update the latest android market is buggy & too slow last 2 days it shows all the apps which have update but cant download any, gives error connection times out..............try again, my data connection has no speed problems.
exactly..for first few days the new app was fast but soon like said above it became a total waste.now uninstalled updates and using old 2.3.6 market version.
Me too reverting back to 2.3.6 for now.
How do I revert back to 2.3.6?
When trying to install 2.3.6.apk it says "there is a problem parsing the package"
Edit
I uninstalled update then restarted the phone & it finally reverted back to older 2.3.6 and it works fine now.
Hi there, i bought a Nexus S to replace the Xperia X10, and i notice that i can not update the market, i am stuck at 2.3.6.
i went to apps managemet and uninstalled the "updates" and clear the data for the market app but it doesn't work, it keep downloading the 2.3 version instead of the 3.1 version.
In the X10 the market updates correctly so it is not a country related problem.
any ideas???
Download the apk yourself and install it

I wish I could keep the old market. The new one is slow, laggy, having strange bug of it wanting to attach itself to another Gmail I have, and I have no need for books or movies.
If I pull the new out and install old, the new one updates all by itself. I don't know he it's possible to keep the market from updating itself.
Look under /system/app for MarketUpdater.apk and either delete it or change the permissions to 000.
Then go to manage applications and uninstall market update.
Your market will now stay the same

As far as the market goes.....
Make sure you have the MarketUpdater.apk in /system/app. Also clear try clearing data for the market under settings-->applications-->manage applications
And for the software updates....
What version do you have? Because not all models and carriers are at the same software build number.
i haven't rooted the phone, and it is stock.
i am the only one with this problem???
my phone is factory unlocked and it is a i9020a phone.
Its not a "problem". The update isn't instantly pushed to all phones right away. It gets pushed in stages or something to that effect.

Download it, put on SD card and install

yes i undesrtand that, but there is a previus version i think is the 3.1.3, and i can't get that version too, and it's released months ago, the strange thing is that i can update to the green version 2.3.1 from the grey one (i don't remenber the version but it's one of the first market available).
3.1.3 was never released to our nexus s
Hi,
I had thesame problem as you are experiencing now. Tried the downloaded version but uninstalled it.
Since this morning i have the official market app.
This is how i got it, maybe it has nothing to do with it but its worth a try.
- go to settings and enable location via.Wifi and cellular
- go to app management and remove cache, app data and the market updates you might have
- in the launcher open market app, accept terms and let it load to home screen
- push home button
- lock your phone for about 15minutes
You should have the new market now. I tried this twice and both times it worked then i disabled the location setting and it didnt work.
Hope this helps you.

@p.pavljasevic, your method confirmed working, I just did mine and got 3.1.5 now.
I stop trying long time ago thinking it might've been not pushed to the phone yet, I just tried it and it worked.

So when I first received my phone, it had one of the new Play Store updates already installed (Metro UI). I had a couple of problems activating the phone, so I ended up doing factory reset. For some reason, that downgraded the Play Store version to build 4.9.13 but I don't understand why. Anyway, an easy way to update it (if there's an update available), it to simply open up the Play Store, go to Settings, then scroll down all the way to the Build Version. You simply tap the version number, and if there's an update available it downloads it and installs it. Otherwise, you just get a message that says it's up to date.
Well, my phone keeps saying that it's up to date, although my 1st gen Moto X has been upated to version 5.0.31. Does anyone know why my 2nd gen Moto X won't update the Play Store verion? I have already tire clearing cache and data, but that does nothing. I know I can manually download the apk, but I'm just curious as to why it won't update automatically especially since it already had the new version when I first received it.
Thanks
Mine is doing this too
There is a thread here with the latest apk. If that helps you.

I know I can just download the apk. Mainly wondering why it reverted to an old version when it was shipped with the new one, and why it keeps saying that it's up to date.
A while back i rooted my Samsung s 3 mini (GT-l18190N) and now i'm trying to unroot it and update the firmware (or android version, idk how you call it). I got the device unrooted, however in device status it says that its "Custom" and when i try to update the android using OTA, it says "Your device have been modified, Software updates are not available". I downloaded Kies and it says that i have the latest version. My androin version currently is 4.1.2.
I also did a factory reset which didn't seem to help.
I'm trying to get snapchat on the phone (as far as i know snapchat doesn't work on rooted phones), i got downloaded snapchat from play store and it works, but it seems to be an older version, i have no "Memories" on it, and the gui is old aswell. I need a snapchat version that has memories. Also some apps on play store say that the device is not supported or something like that.
