I have only 9 apps installed and I keep getting the 'low on space' message. I can't even update my current apps without getting this message. Any suggestions.
Another question I have is how can I install the Google Talk app? Thanks

well how much space do those apps take? are you putting them on sd? sdext? internal memory? you can use cmtd if you want more room for apps in iternal, you can partition sd card to put apps in ext3 or ext4 if you'd like. you can move them to the fat32 partition but they would be much slower
as for gtalk, just google search "googletalk.apk download" push it with adb or use a file explorer to download it to your phone

thanks for the .apk now i just need to figure out how to partition th sd card
ps. i decided to try out CM5, so far it is a lot faster than the rom i had originally flashed. will keep an eye on memory issues.

you have amonra recovery right? back up exerything from sd card to pc, boot to recovery choose partition sd, choose 512mb and no swap, the rest fat32 (this would be my preference but do as you please) wait until finnished, change ext2 to ext3... wait (you can stop here but I prefer ext4)
now put what you want back on sdcard. I beleieve your rom has the ability to automaticly move apps to ext, check in settings... if not that you may have to enable it via terminal

thank you for the quick tutorial, with cm5 i now have 40.9mb of phone storage(after installing facebook) and 1.77gb on external card. i dont see installing many other apps as this will be a backup phone to my current Galaxy Tab P6800, plus i also have a Galaxy S phone to use as back up as well.

[Q] Using ROM MANAGER to partition sd

i'am on 2.2.1 stock rooted though....now i believe i made the mistake of moving apps to SD BEFORE partitioning so now i have like a TON of apps on my SDcard and like 20mbs of internal storage LEFT but then i partitioned my SDcard -____- lol a FAIL ...so should i delete all of my 171+ apps and THEN Repartition ?
You could just use a partition manipulation app rather than repartitioning. I recently did this using gparted on my linux workstation. Not sure of any free windows apps that do the same. If you are not running linux, you can always use a bootable USB img to make the changes.
parted (gnu.org/software/parted/)
gparted frontend (gparted.sourceforge.net)
Here are some tools to make life easier when dealing with bootable USB images and windows.
linuxliveusb.com
unetbootin.sourceforge.net
hmmm alright ill give it a shot thanks i've got windows though not Linux
If you don't have partition magic or another app installed to change partitions around, just use either linuxliveusb.com or unetbootin.sourceforge.net to create a bootable usb key that will let you resize your partitions. They don't install anything or make any changes to your hard disks.
question though bro if you go into the ROOT of a partitioned SDCARD how does it look? like is there a SPARE folder for the apps? if possible a screenshot?
I'm too new to the forums to post real links, but below is a screenshot of gparted showing my nexus one. I opened gparted and went to view and checking "Device Information"
For my current partition layout, which is just 1 big partition, I see everything that I have saved to the SD card. My apps get installed on /sdcard/.android_secure

What distribution are you booting? There should be a menu with gparted listed. You could at least go to a console/terminal/xterm whatever and type in gparted.
Both tools for creating a usb stick should offer a gparted distro.
well when i go into terminal and type in gparted i get this.....UNLESS im doing it wrong...
Which distro are you running? You should install the gpared distro on your usb stick or at least systemrescuecd. Both of those are guaranteed to have gparted. I'm not sure about the others.

where can i find those ??
If you go to the links, they will tell you how to do it. It's not a complicated process.
Unetbootin gparted.sourceforge.net/liveusb.php
Download Unetbootin to help you to create this Live USB flash drive. Just run the program on MS windows, then you can follow the GUI to create the live. You will need the GParted live iso file in this method. PS. The boot menu created by Unetbootin is not exactly the same boot menu as the one created in choice 1. Therefore it's recommended to use the choice 1.

I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DEAD SDCRADS PHONES LAPTOPS DESKTOPS AND ANYTHING ELSE
requirements
-windows computer
-phone with swiftdroid or any rom that supports inti.d boot scripts
-recovery 5.0.2.3
1. backup all sdcard stuff to computer.
2. wipe all data from the sdcard. after that use this to remove all partitions from sdcard( if you do not have any other partitions on sdcard skip to the end bellow the last picture)
http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm
the pics will look may look different cus im using a older version
mine looks like this

to remove all the other partitions
when all is done click apply at the top lefthand corner. at the end after it refreshes make sure there is only one partition left . the FAT32 partition.
so now the card has no data put it in the phone and boot into recovery(5.0.2.3). there go to advance>partition sdcard>EXT size 2M(2M if you dont want a ext partition but if you want then the size is up to you )>swap size 256m
power down the phone and put back data into the sdcard. now enjoy swap
well this is my first thread so hope it helps!!

custom rom??
I use this method more than 2 or 3 month, thats nothing new. Mur4ik Swiftdroid roms use this method, automatically find&use SD card's swap partition.
Before that, i made a video for my 2.1 Ultimate rom, how to partition SD card under windows to use swap&ext partition. (I use swapper for swap and joe's autoapp2SD in my ROM) Sometimes it not possible because compatibility problems between win&card readers but newer CWM recoveries able to partition cards.
yeah like i said androidboss did not know how to do this so i made this. others may also find is useful so why not make it public ??

Just tried it, works like a charm
Im quite a newbie in this, how exactly does swap and ext porticions work and what do they do ?
the memory card you are using is in a fat32 format so by partition it to let say a ext3 file type you can store apps on it(if im not wrong the phone's memory is also ext3) swap works as addition external ram used to run apps
Where can I find recovery 5.0.2.3?

I'm running CM9 Android 4.0.3
http://mikegapinski.androidus.pl/android-4-0-ice-cream-sandwich-aosp/
I've done everything like the tutorial says, but I had older clockwork recovery 2.5 I guess something like that, and I've done the same thing in recovery selected advance>partition sdcard> EXT3 and selected 2gb then selected 256MB Swap, but when I run the OS and enter free in terminal it says swap 0.
What could have caused the problem?
Thanks in advance!

look in root explorer (or any root file manager), in folder etc/init.d
if there isnt script called 07swapon, the swap wont active. and afaik, mike's ics doesnt have this script. u must add it manually.
Yes take 1 from any rom
How can I open *.img files so I can get the 07swapon file?
Can you give me the download link for swapon file?

any other hint i really want to save this card.

Do you have access to a SD Card data reader? It might help to remove your phone from the equation. Also, Linux has far better support for file systems than windows. I have formatted drives that Windows couldn't see, using Linux. Do you have access to a unix box?

[Q] CM10 External SD Card Not Showing

Hi, I updated my phone with the CM10 nightlies and all is working great so far! I'm still getting used to of the new way of mounting the storage partitions, as now the phone uses primarily the internal storage card, which is better for me.
The problem is, that on some apps I'm having trouble using my SD card.
When I navigate to /storage, most apps don't show up anything (neither sdcard0 nor scard1), but navigating to /sdcard does take me to /storage/sdcard0. This happens even if the app has root access.
Is there any way to change this, or create a link(like /sdcard -> /storage/sdcard0 to /extsdcard -> /storage/sdcard1)
This is what I see on Titanium Backup:

I've tried changing permissions to Read Write and Execute for all three groups to Storage but still got no luck. System doesn't allow me to change permissions to sdcard1 directly.
Apollo and Titanium still can't access the external sd. Any other ideas?

This seems to have done it for me. I enabled full read permissions and only owner write, I left execute as is (all checked) and now Titanium can write and read to my external sd, so no more storage woes for me!
Thanks!

It might be that those apps are looking for the external sd in the wrong (old) symlinks. See if the following will help you

FINALLY A SOLUTION!
I recalled reading a RC's post that skipping CM7 could cause issues. Actually, he mentions it in the CM10 launch thread, first post.
So I re-installed a stock ROM, installed CM7 wiped data/cache, installed CM10 wiped dalvik, fixed permissions and now it all runs great!
Let's hope it lasts! If it doesn't all try your idea Aragorn.
Thanks a bunch
if you go to the settings > general settings > advanced > access mode and change it to root access mode it will let you go into your external sd card without having to edit in shortcuts hope it works for everyone :victory:

50.5 GB free of 53.6 GB

I have TWRP recovery and went to Format my phone through TWRP.
After formatting it says in Windows Explorer 50.5 GB free of 53.6 GB.
When I click into the phone in Explorer there are not files and nothing shows up. Is this normal for internal Storage for the phone after a clean wipe?

OP: Did you format it f2fs or ext4? There's approx a ~5 G difference. F2fs leaves less than ext4.. (well, it's faster too for writes, so .. I think well worth it).
It's ok to show that way if you have data on f2fs [emoji4]

Man that Daft Punk logo is epic!
If you're feeling bold you can do some trial and error and allocate your own partition space. But by default you are not going to get all 64gb of the 64gb advertised. Disk space is quite a finicky thing where some storage devices are made better than others. Mine for instance with all my stuff installed with FreedomOS i have 57GB on my phone usable. I don't really do pictures though and hardly have many apps. Its just how technology is. I wouldnt really suggest any manual allocations to specific partitions because you could choke the phone causing either a boot-loop issue or a full bricking of your device. If you need more space you can hop down to best buy and purchase a smartphone external hard drive. Believe it or not phones can actually recognize flash drives and send files to them independently.
i have just formatted my storage in twrp and changed it to EXT4 and to me also its showing 50GB free of 53.6
Seem like some space are reserved for driver image drive which are usually shown up during connecting a PC.
This happened to me when I was changing filesystem (f2fs -> ext4 , and/or ext4 -> f2fs). I would connect my phone to my pc and it would show completely empty storage with around 50gigs free and without any of the usual android system folders. I ignored it and simply went ahead with rom installation from twrp and there were no problems.
Yes, it is normal after you switch /data filesystem
