Can GParted damage your microSD card? - Galaxy Ace S5830i General

Hi,
2 weeks ago I bought a new Transcend 32GB class 4 microSDcard because the 2GB card that was delivered with my GT-S5830i gave the message "possibly damaged" and after formatting it, the message came back after a few days.
After taking backups I resized my new 32GB with GParted:
the current fat32 partition 1GB less and creating an extra 1GB ext3 partition to use in the future for custom roms.
Everything went well for a couple of days, then I got suddenly the notification that my card was unavailable.
I have a microSD card adapter, so I put the 32GB card in it, but the card was not recognized by my Windows laptop.
(The original 2GB card is recognized by my Windows laptop.)
Conclusion: I can throw away my new card?
I guess this problem is not caused by using GParted? Maybe GParted can corrupt it, but than at least I would be able to mount the SDcard and format it and start over again?

If you somehow get the card(s) detected in windows, or if you buy a new card; try MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition (Free for windows) to created partitions. It works like a charm for me and many others. Hope this helps you. Cheers and Hit Thanks if I Helped You

some days ago i had similar problem, my microsd was not recognized.
i put the card into my laptop, and formatted using gparted (i use linux).
everything work fine now

I keep getting damaged SD card error on my phone

On my computer it's fine. I just want to listen to my music. Damaged or not.
What causes Damaged SD cards?
Try to reformat it and see if it works. There are several things that can cause a card to go bad.
I have and just spent countless hours getting music on the card and I downloaded an .apk when I got error (Installed and worked fine) then just got error.
How to safe me from these from happening again?
All my apps are gone due to app2sd bummer

Just do what you always prolly do. Just make sure to unmount before you disconnect. Sometimes the cards can just go bad. Just make sure to get a name brand card and get a class 6 (you don't have to). It was prolly just a fluke.
Sandisk 8gb class 2 I do unmount error for past 3 months. Know I can't get back my apps2sd to rework after I did a format.
How did you format it? In the phone from UI? If so then it erased your ext partition.
Look in HERE for good guide on how to check what partitions do you have and to format and repartition.
Good luck
If your running swapper, you need to turn it off before mounting. Thats the main cause if its not actually damaged.
I had that happen to me when I tried using Apps 2 SD 2. It said it corrupted my SD, and when ever I tried to unmount from the PC, it would freeze up. I just backed it up, deleted all my partitions, reformated and made new ones. What ever A2SD you're using, make sure you follow tuts correctly.
If you use AppsToSD to partition your card and you get an error saying that your SD card is corrupted or damaged, ignore it. Take out the card, format the Fat32 partition on your PC (a full format, not quick erase). When it's done, both the Fat32 and ext2 partitions will be there. I have experienced that problem several times.
Also, you can do adb to get the files off the ext2 partition before you use the phone to remove the partition and re-format the card.
Well guess what all I did was turn off my phone overnight and charge it. This morning turned back on got the same good message after spending 5 hours putting music onto my card. So this time I am doing a full format of the card and just using fat32 nothing more no apps2sd I think that may be my problem. Cause when using it I don't get the option to safe remove the sd card in SD card settings.
My 2-yr old 8gig Sandisk Class 2 SDHC suddenly went kaput and won't be detected by my Topaz.
This sd card has been previously fat32-formatted and worked for 2 yrs.
Lately, before flashing a cooked ROM, I ran the mtty1.42 if that matters
Now, my phone won't even detect another sdhc (4gig Sandisk, Class 6) which is working fine on my wife's Raphael and/or my PC.
The error message the defunct 8gig SD card gives when connected via card reader to my XP sp2 machine is:
Exception Processing Message c0000013
Parameters 75b6bf7c 4 75b6bf7 c 75b6bf7c
[Cancel] [Try Again] [Continue]
You can't format something that is undetected, right? Any clue, please? Thanks.

Yea that happens my 1yr 8Gb class 6 dies a while ago but that was from my using it for readyboost and eboostr(unrelated). Now i got this 4gb class 2 thats pretty fast If you had swapper then i think the card could be damaged, try formatting that sd card in recovery mode.
there is a way to reformat the card if its not physically damaged but it seems like yours is. I dont rmr the commands to do it in gparted, butits possible

Need help with class 10 32GB MicroSD

So I got myself a class 10 MicroSD from newegg from the company called Patriot (reviews for all their products say its a good company)
NewEgg page with item
In any case I figured 99$ isnt too bad. So I got the memory card today and sure enough computer has no issues reading it.Speeds are great and no bad reads or writes
So Im trying to set it up with ext3 etc and nothing seems to be working. So in any case I reformatted everything to fat32 on my PC and the phone isn't even detecting the memory card.
I was under the impression 32GB microsd should be ok. I hope this isnt a compatibility issue. Anyone else have thoughts in this?
Tried partition magic, default disk management application on xp also tried MiniTool Partition Wizard and no luck. At this point I just want the phone to detect the memory card to I can format it from the phone and then do the ext3 either from CW or Amon
Anyone? Is changing the drive letter on a computer going to change anything?
I heard that FAT32 does not support 32GB partition very well.. also some card readers have problem with reading a 32GB shdc card.
Try to make a 10GB Fat32 partition on your SD card and leave remaining space free, see if your phone can use it.

Thanks ill give it a try but no point in a 32gig card if cant use most of it on the phone. Dont need most of the card as ext3 lol
Working fine here. I used Acronis True Image to clone the card the first go around, but didn't like how it setup the card. Then used Acronis Disk Director to reconfigure a 31gb FAT & 1gb ext3. You can use Amon_RA Recovery to setup the card too. I did do that too, but I already have Disk Director to give me the gui view of what's going on.
Cannot get EXT3 partition to work on Desire
I'm also having issues getting the ext3 partition of the Kingston 32GB micro sdhc card to work with my desire.
I used GParted to create a large fat32 partition and also created a 1GB ext3 partition, but when i reboot the handset i get an error meesage on the desire telling me that the sd card is damaged and that i need to format. When i go back into GParted the FAT32 partition looks healthy but ext3 partition comes up as unallocated.
This method has worked fine with an 2 and 8GB micro sd but it seems to have issues when using the 32GB.
I've also tried using rom manager to create a 512MB ext3 partition but that just causes the phone to sit on on the boot up screen.
If anyone is experiencing the same/similar problem, please let me know how you tackled it.
Try to use Amon_RA's recovery and reformat your SD card with it.
Gparted seems to be the best tool to use.
Hi,
Same problem with a Patriot MicroSD 32GB Class10.
Attempt to partition MicroSD with :
-Gparted
-Minitool Partition Wizard Home
-CWM (HD2)
Partitions are always destroyed or strange modified so Android can't read FAT32 partition.
No problems with a Sandisk 32GB Class 2.
Ok i worked out what this issue was.
Unfortunantly i've purchased a counterfeit Kingston MicroSD.
Kingston confirmed that it was a fake after i send them pics so that explains everything.
Thanks for the feedback guys.
The reviews seem mixed on the Patriot
I like sdformatter--thorough job--make sure settings are as recommended

[Q] Upgrading from 16GB microsd to 32GB card help

I'm currently using the stock 16GB card that came with my Telus Milestone. I just ordered a 32GB class 10 card to replace it. I'm using EXT2 on CM7, so I've got a Fat32 partition and an EXT2 partition.
What's the best way to get all my data on all partitions over seamlessly and easily? Can Norton GHOST or Acronis access the cards and do a clone from 1 to the other, as if they were regular harddrives? (using USB card readers)
Any advice would be appreciated!

Yeh norton ghost worked fine for my 8gb with fat32 and ext2 partitions to a new 16gb card.....
Ghost didn't work for me. It simply wouldn't see either card, using a multitude of card readers.
I ended up partitioning the card manually using Minitool partition wizard. I needed a FAT32 partition and EXT2 partition. I then created a nandroid backup of the phone which included the ext2 partition and copied everything from the old card's fat32 over to the new card manually on my windows machine with robocopy. Popped the new card into the phone and immediately restored the nandroid backup before the phone could boot.
Worked like a charm, though annoying. I really wish Ghost would have worked!
And I'm an idiot: partition wizard has an option to do exactly what ghost does: copy the entire disc, and resize whatever partitions you needed.
I just did that on a second card and it was a lot easier than the first time around...not that the first time was difficult

[Q] 64gb microSDXC card can be opened on PC but phone says damaged SD card

I was able to format the card to Fat32. The computer on windows xp can open the card, able to drag & drop files, however, when I insert to galaxy note, phone says damaged SD card. When I go to settings, there's only one option: Mount SD card. When I clicked on it, says Preparing Card, then says Damaged SD card. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Android version: 4.0.3
Kernel version 3.0.8
solved finally!
OMG! It was driving me mad. I installed Minitool Partition (freeware) and formatted microSDXC 64gb to Fat32, I could see it on my PC but the galaxy note says Blank. Rebooted phone, still the same. Went back to Minitool Partition and formatted sd card to NTFS. Reinserted to galaxy note, still says blank sd. Went back to Minitool again and reformatted back to Fat32, run checkdisk, reinserted card to galaxy note and voila!! The awesome phone is finally seeing it! Patience is a virtue indeed...lol

good to know that checkdisk work
The most reliable way is to format the memory card on the Note itself.

Wasn't able to do that. No option to format on Pa. I used a tool which could be found in the sandisk topic. For me this was the only way to get it working.

Format on Phone
After waiting 50 days for my card to arrive i found that formating it in my Pc as NTFS woud make, when inserted in my G-Note (chilean N7000 with ICS 4.03 kernel 3.0.15) say it was nonworking filesystem and selecting the error message in the notification area give me the option to format in FAT32, now it works flawlessly and i'm very happy with the card, a 64GB sandisk class 6 i got from ebay at 64$ (us dollars) free shipping.

64gb sdcard in bionic possible?

Droid bionic has a max 32 gb external sdcard limitation. is this a hardware or software limitation?
thinking if it was software, could I create 2 partitions on 64gb card and mount extra partition in vold.fstab as usb1 or sdcard-ext2 or something?
thanks.

I do not know if this helps or not but my Samsung Precedent is supposed to have a 16gb SDcard limitation but I have a 32gb card in it and it reads it as such. AlI I can say is stick the card in and see what happens. Once I get my Bionic up and running I plan on moving the card to from phone to phone. Good Luck and hope it works.
I've been using a 64 GB card (SanDisk Extreme SDXC) with no problems.

Is the OS JellyBean?
is the card formatted exfat or fat32?
Is it class 6 or class 10?
thanks.
Note: reason I'm asking is I have been reading problems with class 10 micros SD drawing too much power and exfat not being recognized with usb thumb drives and I wasn't sure if that carried over to the Micro sd card(for those with a y cable, an OTG cable, and powered hub)
Software problem only, reformat the card as fat32, your phone will ask to do this, and it will work fine.
Been using my sandisk 64gb card for a year without issue in my Droid 3 and now on my Bionic.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk
I broke down and bought a sandisk 64gb micro sdxc
picked up a sandisk 64gb sdxc class 10 from best buy for $35 yesterday.\
It would not read in my bionic because it is formatted exfat file system. Android no like. ext2 or fat32 is preferred if your a windows user def fat32.. problem with formatting anything that large using windows is you need utils found here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773735
that diddn't work for me so I used easeus partition manager to delete partition on card and create a primary (not extended) partition that was unformatted. I then used the fat32format.exe from the link above to format the card all of which was done in windows xp
working now.
I'm sure there are some things here that are not neccessary but this is what worked for me after a few failed attempts.
do not copy files form your old card until you put a couple files on the new card and test it. you will just end up wasting your time when it doesn't work and you have to reformat it again or repartition it again and copy..... again. I copied 29g to the card like 3 times. lol.
my entire music collection will be with me at all times now!
64gb MicroSDXC is 30$ on Amazon (US).
I got one and it is working flawlessly in my bionic. I was running CM11 at the time, but have jumped a couple of ROMs since then.
I copied all files off of my old card to PC (using the card slot), formatted the new card IN MY PHONE, then copied the files on to the new cardPure success. No errors or anything.
Just my experience though! Bionic isn't supposed to handle 64gb cards, but mine did just fine.
64 megabyte SD card
I also purchased a 64 megabyte SD for my bionic and it works great.
