Hi everyone, I'm having a big problem with the micro-sd card... Some time ago, notifications stating that the card was incorrectly removed started appearing, usually after reboot it was ok for some time, then it would happen again. I tried formatting the card, running chkdsk and even replaced it twice, but the problem has got worse: now the card is completely unrecognized, neither in settings (it acts as if no card were inside the slot) nor in hboot (doesn't even try to look for PG32IMG, though I find that when I boot to the bootloader with the card in, there's a small delay between when the menu appears and when it becomes responsive) nor in the recovery (E: can't mount /sdcard). I'm able to install roms through the recovery by moving the file to /data and then mounting /data as /sdcard (fastboot might work as well), but I can't do anything else that requires sdcard (eg. camera, downloading files, receiving files via bluetooth and so on). At present I have Nik_Project_X v4.1, Clockworkmod recovery version 5.0.72 (if I remember well) and Revolutionary HBOOT.
Any suggestions? Thanks
Did you try different ROMs? Do other SD-cards work?
Like all good things that come to an end, even SD cards die...
There is no expected life time, so they can die.
Don't think it has anything to do with your phone or ROM, i suggest getting yourself a new one
Yes, I changed rom twice and, as i said, tried at least 3 different sd cards
So if your phone doesn't recognize any SD-cards it seems like your sd-port in the phone is shot... If u can regain warranty, you can send it to htc and if not, good luck finding sb else...
I notice same problem after upgrade to 4.0.4. For me solution is - smaller card and less files in it - 16GB got unusable, half empty 8GB works
That happened to me, it kept saying that the SD card was damaged. So I got it repaired by HTC and it works fine after

I still have that problem with 8-16gb sd cards, only work with 4gb card but that is too small for me, what can i do for that problem?
Even half empty 8gb cards don't work for me
Hi all, my incredible s was working fine till today afternoon when i got a 32gb memory card, and when i first inserted it into my phone it recognized it fine and everything. after unmounting it and reinserting my old 8gb card back in so i can transfer the files over, the memory card started acting weirdly and kept unmounting itself and the phone says "sd card safe to remove" some of the times. the 32gb card failed completely. my warranty is over as well. running latest version of cyanvivox, but that had never caused any sd card problems for me. rebooting did not solve anything either, any help can be given?
I would recommend copying all your files from one card to the next on a computer than turning your phone off, insert the card and boot it up. Should work fine.

had the same problem for monthes. I had gone through all the efforts to fix it like you.
finally I found a clue.
On the back cover, there are two pairs of pins which supposed to connected to
the terminals on the phone, which are not connected well. so I bent the springs
up a little bit and made connection well. (be very careful not break the springs).
then SD card show up right away. It's being working for days and no more
problem.
hope it helps everyone.

What's up guys. Anyone else have an issue with their Nexus not recognizing your SD card after the Froyo update? I have a 16 GB class 2 Sandisk. The phone recognizes the phone in recovery without any issue. I tried formatting the card and also reflashing Froyo, but I still get nothing. Any ideas? Thanks!
Same issue here. Stock card that came with the N1, have never had an issue...now it keeps telling me it's safe to remove, and when I go into SD settings and mount, it just goes back to that notification over and over. Probably about to restore to cyan 5.0.6 for now...
I took my card out. Using my SD card reader, backed up files, formatted, SD card in phone, connect to computer. And it worked. Then loaded my files back on. Btw I also have a 16gb card

Yeah...try just popping the card out the phone and then reinsert.
It seems like i'm still having this issue. I decided to stick with CM 5.8 until they officially released 2.2. It doesn't matter if I install the official update or a rom based on 2.2, my phone still refuses to recognize my card. I've searched all over the net and i've yet to run into anyone else with this issue. It sees the card fine in recovery and when using CM 5.8. I've wiped the phone, formatted the card and i'm not sure what else to try.
Same problem here, also a 16Gb SDCard
works 100% in 2.1, but refuses to work with Froyo.
Any workarounds, or is this a bug in the current Froyo builds?
Suggestion is to copy the contents of your to your computer, then format, and try again

I think I have this too - with a workaround
hi,
On my Nexus one I am running Froyo OTA.
I noticed that when I turn on my phone the SD card is not fully recognized. All the icons of my apps appear blank for all SD moved apps. I tried switching cards and reformatting and everything but it always happens.
I found one workaround which usually works:
1. When turned on and apps not recognized, run ASTRO files manager
2. Even though card is not fully recognized you can access all files on the SD from ASTRO. Now run the SD Card Tool from the menu.
3. After the scan is finished showing usage of directories on SD, I close the ASTRO which twice hitting the back key and when I return to the home screen all apps are re-enabled and icons are updated. From here on everything works.
Hope this is the same issue you are having and this helps you to solve it.
Perhaps Gingerbread will make this obsolete
Gil
What you're describing is a function of Froyo's Apps2SD together with either custom launcher (LauncherPro, ADW, and such), or long loading time after reset. It's a known and much discussed issue, help files for both custom launchers suggest force-closing the launcher a couple of minutes after reset.
It doesn't have anything to do with SD card not being recognized.
There is no such thing as "partially recognized" SD card, it's either working or it doesn't, and when it doesn't - no files can be seen on it at all.
Does anyone know why Android would see the sd card as damaged and the card be fine?
Like I turnoff usb storage and then it will not use the card but if I reboot into recovery I can mount it and copy files fine as well as put it in a card reader and it is fine there too?
Any ideas on how to fix this without a complete format?
Happened to me too once. Everything looked fine even in recovery. My pc could recognize files when I mounted and everything. But in phone it said damaged SD card.
I copied all files to pc, reformatted and all is well...
since there is no damage to the card there has to be another way to do it though. That is what I am saying.

Not sure how much your card worth for you but if I where you I would take the 5 minute and remove the card backup and format it...
Flash can easily get corrupted it usually happen when you move the card from one device to another without proper stopping and even for no reason at all!
Can you explain me why you think the card is good if the hardware tell otherwise ???
The first time I rebooted my Nexus One it told me the card was unreadable and offered to format it. Since there's no way (I can see?) to remove the card without removing the battery, I rebooted the phone, put it in my laptop, ran a filesystem check, no problems. Put it back in the phone and booted, haven't seen the problem since.

Because my computer has no problems with card at all. Data can be moved around and read just fine. Just the phone thinks there is a problem. I am guess that something is telling android there is a problem when no other device sees it. That is why I believe the card is fine.
Same problem here, let me know if you've found a solution
i've had that same problem. just fully formatted it..16GB card.
Hi everyone,
I am having a severe problem with my external micro sd card and I am looking for a solution. I will try to give as much info as possible here.
Last night I connected my captivate to my pc using USB mass storage. I forgot to disconnect the phone from pc and also forgot to press STOP usb mass storage on my captivate and turned my pc off. By the time I realized, it was too late. So, i disconnected the usb cable from pc. After a few seconds, the captivate's notification showed "media scanner running" as always and started scanning my internal and external SD card.
Just when it said "scanning completed", the phone became unresponsive and went straight to the splash screen. It did not completely reboot the phone but just went straight to the splash screen and turned on again. After turning on, it again started to scan the sd card as usual and the same thing happened again. It started happening again and again in cycles. So i took the battery out and restarted 3 4 times but everytime the phone started and scanned the sd cards (which it normally does) it kept going back to splash screen.
I was running mosaic 3 diet 2.3.3 rom at that time and decided to quickly flash again. So i flashed back to AT&T stock using 1-click ODIN. and everything seemed to be ok. I then, again flashed custom 2.3.3 rom using the CORRECT procedure but it started happening again. So i went back to stock using odin and everything was OK. SD card worked fine. I tried to flash custom rom couple more times with and without the sd card inserted but the issue doesnt go away. I also tried flashing 2.2 rogers STOCK but the problem is still there.
I then took my micro sd card out and that seemed to solve the problem (for custom roms). The phone started working normally again using custom rom but as soon as I inserted the sd card, it wud go back to the splash screen and do a mini restart again.
The only rom that didnt give me any problems with sd card was AT&T's 1-click odin to stock 2.1. no errors or splash screen restarts with STOCK rom.
i also tried different micro sd card but no luck. I tried formatting both internal and external sd cards too. nothing helped.
I hope i provided enough info. Please help
Thanks
can someone please help?
Have you tried mounting it in a card reader and running an fs check on it?

You could do what was started with card reader, and if that doesn't help you could format the sd card after everything is copied from it. If you don't have reader you could probably do adb to dump with phone off. I think it is pull/external.sd (not shore someone should correct me on command soon). To format it is control panel, hardware, and device managment. Then find external sd and format it. You should format with FAT32.( To mount external sd for that I think you could also do from cwm recovery.)...(if need help with any of that just pm me)

It may be different on android, but on my last phone it was highly advised not to format when using the phone as a card reader. I bought a cheap USB model at Newegg for ~$5 that handles more card types than you can shake a baby at. Its proven to be well worth the cash.

Have you tried running the USB mass storage on your device again? I know Ubuntu 10.10 has a cool appliction for formatting and things like that. Ive used it before to fix something, boot it off of a disc too.
Heres some links
Ubuntu cd setup page- http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download
How to format something using Ubuntu- http://www.ehow.com/how_4929061_format-hard-drive-ubuntu.html
I would guess that the MicroSD is a FAT32...
I can and I have formatted the sd card several times. Both internal and external sd cards give me this problem.
I was able to mount usb storage once the phone started and while it was scanning my sd cards (which it usually does), i VERY QUICKLY went into settings, connected my usb to pc and mounted the sd card. The phone kept restarting(or going back to splash screen and starting again) while it was mounted. I also noticed that once it was mounted the sd card was completely accessible. i.e, i could delete/copy/transfer etc carry out all functions normally.
I formatted the sd cards using FAT32 (both internal and external too) but it didnt help.
However, after trying many times I was able to run my phone with the MOSAIC DIET III 2.3.3 rom and it has been working since then. But it doesnt work on any other rom right now, specially on Serendipity VII
The phone is working properly as it used to for now but I am afraid it will happen again when I flash another rom or go back to stock.
Any other suggestions?
Honestly, my suggestion if its under warranty us to flash back as close to stock as possible(wipe all caches, master clear, orbital nuke, etc) then take it to att, or purposefully brick it and tell them kies fubared it.

You did remember to remove your external sd card and sim when you did this, right?
I have been flashing since I've got the phone (november 2010) and I have done it numerous times. But I never took out my sim and/or external sd card while flashing any rom or while going back to stock. Never had a problem either. Maybe once or twice I did remove it but only when the intructions for a particular rom specifically asked to do so, otherwise no.
So, no I actually didnt remove the sim and sd card when I flashed back to stock.
Does it matter?
Yes, it can corrupt the sim/sdcard. it's more based on unluck of the draw. I did the flash to gb bootloaders with my sim/external in. I guess I got lucky

While not normally, Anything that is writting this type of stuff to your phone runs the chance of messing up any is in in the phone. I have had my extrenal sd wiped a few times when flashing
Hi, I bought one here:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007KFXIDE/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01
Then I found that from time to time my binoic (official .905 rom) cannot recognize it. Either some folders disappears, or the whole card cannot be found. Trying to unmount the card from settings>storage doesn't work. I have to physically pull it out and plug it in again to make it work. Also, some files physically lost forever.
Is this a known issue? I'm wondering is this an Android issue or this card itself has defects.
Thanks.
Did you format it when you first put it in phone?
Ok, this is the trouble: I bought a 32gb Samsung card for my D3, i noticed then, that apps couldn't placed on the ACTUAL sd card, but only on the (oh so genially) internal soldered 16gb sd card, contained in the phone... i then made the trick that let phone mounting the external card as the internal and vice versa, following this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21032236
It worked really well, but now, everytime i plug the phone into the pc USB, as a memory drive, it reboots... some time i manage to connect successfully, but often it reboots, after a couple of seconds... sometimes i managed to select "charge only" mode, and it didn't rebooted, so it's not an hardware problem (i think).... I noticed that if i unmount the external sdcard (the 16gb one, therefore) it doesnt't reboots...
I modified even the init.rc situated in the root, swapping every "sdcard" voice with "sdcard-ext" and vice versa, but maybe there are some other files to change... any idea?
Thanks in advance to you all!!

Yep, and i am on Minimoto (yes, i forgot to say this, sorry)
I have an update too, sometimes when i connect the phone, after manually unmounting the external sdcard (that is actually the internally soldered 16gb , just to be clear memory) i can see both memories from pc... i would like anyway to just plug the phone ad browse files from pc, and i think that the secrets is somewhere in a system file... it's a nice science experiment too
