So I want to get a replacement for my HTC Desire HD.
But I am unsure what to get, the HTC x one is tempting cause I like sense, but I like the design better on the LG.
So anyone here tried both and will help me choose? Maybe even a third phone

Well the 4X design is pretty sexy.. and it's got root now so you could flash sense on it
I can tell you that this is by far the best smartphone ive ever had it's amazingly fast, battery life is awesome , and display is better than One X. I sold my One X for this.

sure sounds good, its also a tad cheaper than the one x
In case I go for a used is there anything to look out for?

I could argue with someone who prefer HTC One X, but I doubt I can win the heart of SGS3 chooser, except they're price sensitive.
Also more phone with quad-core and less price will come up, so LG better gathering more ammo to gain more attention.

battery life is awesome ?? yes in standby only but if you play games, surf the internet, it's terrible!
If u don't play games, battery is nice then. Remember, it's quad core with Tegra 3, dedicated 4 games
Sold my HTCOne x and got my one x.

Well you got root on the 4X but you have locked bootloader. So for now there is nothing to flash.
So if you like to flash another rom the one x is definitively the better choice. They are getting CM10 like the S3, even I'm getting CM10 on my old galaxy S so I'm not convinced yet to upgrade to this

Oh, the phone gets HOT after awhile idk why!! And lg just wouldn't release the unlocked bootloader so yea rooting is inposible for now!

Rooting IS possible.
i just compared mine to HTC OneX 2 days ago, since a family member got that. and really, it is pretty much the same just with the sense4 menu's and different camera features (speed of rolling snapshot) but quality and design, o4x feels better to hold in your hand.
my only dislike
screen activation when power button is pressed (see other threads if you want to know how widespread issue is or is not)
i'm quite happy with it. and its still affordable compared to htc's product in the same cpu range.
we had root'ing some weeks ago, and i personally contributed with a bootstrap ClockWorkMod edition, so we can utilize backups for now. custom roms with custom kernels seems a little far away. only custom roms using existing kernel is possible.

xactly by point, but it exists even after many, many reinstalls. but i survive, its quick enough as long as its within a few mins.
Well you got me convinced, I dont see why I should throw another 100euro after the one x, when their nearly identical in their specs.
I was kinda disappointed in htc support and updates, so I guess I dont expect much of LG either, but it seems ot me they released at least 3 smaller updates since release and hopefully jelly bean will come soon enough

Guys I am seriously considering this phone, but I am seeing some similarities (of the bad kind) between this and the g2x.
Now Im not talking meltdown, but this is an lg phone and from tha same optimus family.
I was with the g2x from day one and am fully versed on the bs lg pulled with us on that phone.
Are there any current owners who had the g2x and are starting to see trends for this?
Also is any one using this on at&t?
Would really like some honest opinions comparing the two( i dont mean spec wise because yeah hd screen quad core etc of course its hardware wise better)
IM picking up an lg hd nitro as a backup phone ( yes its true im a phone junkie and my habbit seems to be getting worse...) because I switch phones...a lot..and tired of going with out a phone for a week or so.
Any ways, I did try to search for similar threads but came up with nothing.
Lg claimed this screen was the shizzle of all phones....opinions? (yes I know there is a phone screen thread but may as well include this who knows maybe someone else was wondering the same)
How has lg been with this phone support wise, releasing drivers(i know I know stupid question and right now youre asking if im trolling you), I see there are some issues with root.
ANyways thanks guys.
No issues with root, we have root already.
Now we are working on cracking/bypassing the bootloader lock so we can flash ROMs.
LG Optimus 4X was the first phone as far as I know to be shown with CM10 running. We also have one of the Virtuous Devs with one of these now who will be helping with CM10, so I'm really excited about the ROMs this phone will see.
In terms of support we have already had 2 or 3 three updates since launch, but tbh, I'm not too worried as once we get the bootloader/recovery sorted I'll be loading CM10 onto my phone, which already seems to be better supported than my Sensation ever was with them.
I own a g2x, I know all its ills. But still decided for o4x. I don't regret. It looks good. Hardware matches feature to feature with s3 and ones with better pricing at least a couple of hundred dollars less. LG hardware is more robust than HTC and Samsung as per my experience. Also not to forget O2x/g2x got very strong developers. They are already warming up for o4x.

I have had LG OP2x which had many problems.
I had exactly same worries as you have now when I thought about buying this phone.
But this phone runs flawlessly and I haven't noticed any of the problems that was on the 2x.
The 2x started to lag and freeze about 60 hours of uptime, while this phone have reached 200 hours of uptime without any complains.
The only thing I wish was better in this phone is the camera and in my opinion the picture quality from the 2x's camera was better.
It is a great phone
Best regards

My only concern on similarity between O2X and O4X is they both use Tegra.
Powerful chip, but it seems difficult to develop, lack of support from maker and handset vendor itself.
I hope it will be much easier now for Tegra3.

Ok so here is my longish answer to your question
1. I always loved Android but the early phones like the Galaxy S and the Mytouch were laggy and buggy.
2. When the G2x came out it was a step forward. But it was buggy as hell. It was superb when it worked but it didn't work that often. The Weapon ROM fixed things but it still had issues.
3. The Galaxy SII was the first stable, reliable Android that I remember.
4. The Galaxy Nexus was the first phone that could rival the smoothness of the Iphone. Finally, Android did it. There could be no more criticism of Android being slow and buggy or laggy. Jelly Bean made it even better.
5. Then the Galaxy S3 and HTC One X upped the ante even more. These phones are the top two phones in the world.
6. So, I got a LG 4x HD the other day because I got a good deal. So because of everything I typed above I was a little worried that LG would make another buggy phone. Well there is nothing to worry about. This phone is smooth. Very smooth. It rivals the Galaxy S3 and the One X in every way. It is not laggy, it hasn't slowed up or rebooted on me once and I have been using nonstop for four days.
But it is now also my favorite phone ever. I just like the way it looks better than Galaxy S3, Xperia S and the HTC One X. I like the physical buttons at the bottom too and the full size sim card slot, removable battery and Micro SD card slot. I have used all the top phones and this is just as good, ask me what is better between the LG 4X HD and the Galaxy S3 and I would say you are splitting hairs, they are pretty equal. Maybe the Galaxy S3 is a little more polished but the difference is negligable. The screens are close but I choose the 4x's screen by a tad. It really is a beautiful screen. I can't think of a single complaint I have about the LG 4x HD. It is a pleasure to use and I can't stop playing with it.
I can't wait til T-Mobile does their refarming in the US so I can use it on 3g/4g too. Wifi is fine for now though.
My score for the LG 4X is a 10 out of 10. It isn't hyperbole either. I put the Apex Launcher on it, switched things to my liking and now I am in love with this phone.

I owned an O2x before this. I guess ain't those kind that would notice any small bugs but the O2x was kinda buggy without custom Rom. Hey guys, and girls,
I am due to pick up my 4X in a couple of days and I was wondering is there anything I need to check on the phone before leaving the shop.
My One X, which will still be my main phone, had a few issues when released. We had a checklist of things to check just to make sure the handset was in top order before we left the shop. Is there anything like that I should be wary of. I don't want to get home and sudden find out that x or y is a common fault with the handset and a quick check in store before I left could have saved me a headache.
Cheers.
EDIT: I know this is a question and has grounds to have been posted in the Q&A section. I thought since it was more a general question I would post it here. But if the mods wish to move it over to Q&A that is cool

I don't know about any problems with the device that could be checked in store (actually I don't know about any problems it could have)
The only thing that you could possibly check is that if you press the border and the center of the back (and also the place where your fingers will be) slightly it should not feel like there is a little gap between the back and the phone (not a big issue but I nearly went mad about this with my 2X)

Well I personally think LG makes great phones besides their bad software but actually with their 4X they made a pretty decent job out of the box. And they 4X is a great phone. And since LG has so much a bad reputation. Their phones are way cheaper. The LG 4X is better then the One X and in par with the S3 screen wise I would say the one x has the best then just barely a difference the lg 4x then the s3 outside in sunlight I would say 4x one x and s3.

The 4x is *not *better than the one x or the s3 - please stop the fanboy nonsense. I know because I have both of them and the 4x. and the galaxy nexus, which is the best of the lot.
On the positive, the 4x is very fast. Faster than the one x and the s3 in many operations. Where it falls down is that the software is sometimes flaky, particularly the camera software, which is awful. As is the stock email client. But the rest is actually pretty good and I love the form factor.
Lets not forget that the one x was flaky when it was released too so hopefully lg will fix things very quickly.
I have always loved the look of LG phones. The Prada to me is one of the nicest looking phones and UI's of all time. Just a shame about the Prada name on it.
And I gave never really owned a LG before, the 5 days I had an Optimus P350 does not count as it was just a temporary phone that I gave away after.
As what phone is 'better'. There is no such thing. There is only a better phone for you. What I demand out of a phone and what the person beside me demands are two different things. My good lady for example is still rocking the P350 stock. While it is perfect for her it would drive me up the wall. She won't even let me root it lol

Newest software update fixed the camera issues pretty much. And think about it. The 4X is like a 100 bucks cheaper then the one x and even more cheaper then the S3 and u get a great phone. And removan\ble Battery and memory unlike u do with the HTC ONE X and i had all 3 phone s the S3 the ONE X and the 4X i kept the 4X i mean i was able to sell the S3 for 650 Euro for the 64gb version i Paid 1 Euro on contract lol the ONE X i was able to sell for 400 Euro Paid One Euro. I wouldnt had get that for the LG 4X, so no brainer to sell them and keep a great phone. Didnt like the ONE X the non removable battery is bad. The battery is bad it sucks and not being able to swap it is just bad. Android isnt Apple so what the hell i got rid of it so fast. The 4X has 2100 baTTERY LIKE THE S3 has. and removable if u wanna pop in a different one. And since there is root now on the 4X u can use that LG app that allows to select the 5 core that is made to save battery if not used instead using 4 in idle it is i think a 400 mhz 5 core i get great battery life out of it. On paar with the s3 and even some. The ONE X so bad Battery life just bad.

I hate to make another good bye thread, but I think its time for me to upgrade. Our dev community is all but dead (besides for the CM10 JB Rom), and I think I just need a new phone.
Is it a good time to get a new phone? Im looking for a top of the line high end phone on AT&T. I was looking at the One X+ but the Tegra 3 chip seems like its a little old. Im also not a big fan of the LG Optimus. Im really liking the Droid DNA but the fact that there is 16gb non expendable storage and the off contract price is $600 (it comes unlocked so it works on AT&T) is kind of a deal breaker.
Should I Wait for CES and hope that more Snapdragon 4 Pro, 1080p phones will come? Or should I just get the One X+?
I would just buy a Nexus 4. I just did. It isn't here yet, but it is going to be aweeesome.
As soon as Google gets more, I'm buying a nexus 4 also! I'm still going to keep this phone as a backup/tethering device (I need LTE speeds to tether).

I guess I can overlook those things because I hate the bull **** of skins like sense and touch wiz. Also too, I can't stand the service providers bastardizing the software with their bloat.
But to better answer your question, CES always has new stuff rolling out, but it's really up to what you want. This ain't like the iPhone where there's only one phone a year to look forward to. There's always a new phone coming out with Android on it. Look at how fast the one X+ came out after the one X.... If there's not a phone right now that makes you want to run out and buy it, wait till that one comes around... Or until your current phone breaks!

I ain't going to lie, I would rather have a phone with more storage or an sd, a removable battery, and lte, but I just don't trust carrier phones anymore so I bought a nexus 4 and I am patiently waiting for it to get here, but figured the sacrifices would be worth it to not have to deal with the hurdles modern phones have just to delete unwanted bloatware, and have wifi tethering with no bs monthly charge.
I really love the one X plus, but I am a bit afraid of it. Afraid it's this year's vivid, a filler phone with locked down hardware and piss poor support. Honestly with my impatience over the nexus 4, I played with all the carrier phones and the answer is a no brainer. Galaxy s3!
Galaxy S3 is as close to a no compromise phone as it gets. Sure its only been dual core, but it's a bad ass dual core, and it's got 2 gigs of ram, and it just got its jelly bean update, and development is off the chain, hell its practically the flagship for the cm team! Accessories are on the level of apple products.. In fact by all means it's the anti iphone.
It looks good, and if you can't deal with TouchWiz, you have most likely an overwhelming amount of options.
Only downsides to it is if your a screen perfectionist you'll probably hate the pentile 4.8 inch 720p AMOLED screen. I personally think it's gorgeous and I can't even tell the difference between pentile and non pentile anyway and I prefer amoled anyway for better brightness, deeper blacks, and better battery life.
My other gripe with it is the dated button layout. I do like physical buttons over the nexuses virtual buttons as the virtual buttons sacrifice screen real estate, but I prefer the new layout as menu is just useless after ics.

Good time to buy a new phone?
I know you posted this awhile ago, but, if you were to get a new phone this week, you'd literally be getting a new phone the week the main CM10 ROM issue for Holiday (AT&T in-call microphone) is solved.
So, no, if you're thinking of getting a new phone this week, I'd wait. We're going to have a ton of roms pouring in over the next few weeks.
Want to kill the lag? Put wcx's stock rom on, and leave it be! Seriously, any mods will just add lag, deal with sense 3.6 and put that rom on and you'll be happier. Trust me it's worked for me

I bought a optimus. Best phone ever. No bull****. Fast. Fast. Fast. Can have up to 80 gig storage. Most powerful quad core. Most powerful GPU. Most ram (2gigs). Fast. But I still play with this phone still Cuz I really like it.

Not a bad choice, it's the same phone as the nexus 4 but with lte, and an sd slot, and of course LGs customized version of ics instead of raw android 4.2. I considered one but am worried about development on it

Hi guys
I hope you won't kill me, but I am a samsung boy. I had a Galaxy II and I was real pleased about it, until it got stolen. So it's time to pick a new phone. I have already read that the bootloader will be unlocked with the jelly bean update. Sadly I fear this might be only a rumour. So this leaves me with some questions.
Will the bootloader be unlocked?
Does this phone really contain lots of bugs?
Is this phone worth buying
Should I got to a Galaxy S3 or another phone
Thanks a lot
I loved my S2, fantastic phone!I upgraded to this phone, more on the fact it looks similar and I didnt like the look of the S3, its a good phone, but its a bit old hat now really, things change so quickly!
Neither do I. But I am curious if there might be other inspiring phones out there. Anyway.. the new upgrade of the SII is sadly enough just an embarrassment. Besides I was wondering if there were any other interesting phones arriving shortly. But I don't know about a lot about the bootloader, but I want my phone unlocked and bug free. I was kinda a flash-addict, and I do like this LG phone, The design, pricing and its hardware ofcourse. Still this phone hasn't received much love, so what should I do?
with my new CustoNexus port-rom, this model has suddenly gotten my interest back. So, i think its a good buy for the low cost you can find it for now comparing to a OneX when it was cheapest.
nexus4 or Optimus g is the only better alternative, comparing to SIII.

True But in this case, I don't want to limit my choice based only upon money. I do feel like getting the SIII, still the S4 might be just around the corner. If I buy this phone, I will have to used it for over a year and hopefully even more. Still I really need a smartphone and I want it to be excellent.
Your port is certainly a good solution to the dreadful UI made by LG. (I saw your rom already and it made me smile)
Still the future of this phone is quite unsure, so .. updates, bugs, .. bootloader, so tell me what should I do?
PS: I heard the display was great, can anyone confirm that?
Odp: [Q] [4HD]Good buy or bad buy
^ SGS3, lolnope, don't buy that piece of plastic! Buy 4X, it'll have JB and get unlocked soon (official CM10.1 is sure), or buy G... don't buy the phone with 1080p, it is just the waste of cash. HTC One X would be a good choice too, but if u want to play with custom roms without losing warranty, just choose O4X
@edit yes, it's the best screen after LG OG! And jelly bean update will solve most problems which exist now
@edit2 human's eye can't even see differences between 720 and 1080p (in phones, on tv u can see it ofc)
@edit3(lol) SGS2 is good phone imho, design is better than "three's", but i hate physical home menu in Samsung's phones.

I am quite unhandy and to be honest. .. I always whine about, NO NO MOVIE 1080p but honestly you can barely see the difference and I am sure this would be the case on a smartphone.
Reason if you can convince me, I'll sign your petition

The only unsure thing in future is if LG will upgrade it to JB 4.2 or further. But it runs good even on ICS, and as Dexter said, only "better" system availible atm is the Snapdragon S4 Pro in Optimus G or Nexus 4.
The display is really great. I haven't done direct comparison to a SIII, but the 4X doesn't have burn-in thanks to IPS instead of AMOLED.
The bootloader unlock was confirmed by LG's Developers to a few users here. So it's still not official, but with LG nothing is official - you just get used to that after a while

The feel of the phone overall i think.. it really feels well build, like it feels solid.. i have had a samsung s2 and a s3 and they cant keep up with this phone ln the way it feels..

But one x feels, and definetly is more solid built. And with one of many brilliant custom roms, could be the most reasonable choice at the moment. (One x+ is highly overpriced in my opinion)

i believe something got lost in translation
anyways GNII is 5.5" , just in case "it is small" was misread.
I am also thinking of selling my galaxy note and buy 4x HD ... big size of gnote is annoying and besides, 4x has tegra 3 which I believe is better than snapdragon quad ... The battery life with tegra 3 is awesome.

No one wants to convince you into it. First of all this thread shouldn't exist. Hope at least the mods look in the Optimus 4X section.

Seriously, it's time for me to renew my phone - i9000 galaxy S
After browsing the web, moaning versus N4 unavailability - and no sd-card, no battery access - i'm really considering O4X.
Form factor, instead on GSIII
Price, compared the HTC One X+
Performances
Now the major drawback for me (seems i just discover there is a locked bootloader...)
- CM10.1 support
But God, for 350€, i'm sure this phone rocks.
Hi,
I am looking forward to buying a new phone (Android). For my currently owned HTC IncS, I am quite satisfied the way custom ROM have turned up. Well, that would remain one of the major criteria for my new phone as well.
Currently I have Samsung Galaxy SIII in mind but I also need advice on which phones are likely to be 'alive' in terms of development around new Android releases, etc.
Note: I searched for other similar topics but none touch on this area
I'm waiting for the butterfly. Expected launch in India is this month.....
Dead cookies leave no trails...
Htc m7 is going to be quite good

IT depends on what you are interested, screen, nfc, lte...
IDK if samsung has already published the new lte versione of s3 with 2gb ram...
Samsung's end phone has s-amoled display, you'll have to adapt yourself because the difference in colour is huge from out phone ( in worse or better it's personal)
Personally I would like to buy the nexus 4 (best quality/price, but soo much difficult to obtain). time by time I've appreciated android aosp over sense ...
M7 should be a great choose but it's too soon to talk about it...

Well the note 2 is a great device as long as size isn't an issue...

If you could wait for HTC M7, it's gonna be new flagship phone of HTC. But if you want to buy a phone right now, I suggest Samsung Note 2. One of my friends has that one and it is wonderful. Smooth, fast and graphically outstanding phone.
Just tried out the Nexus 4 yesterday... Holy sh*t!! What an awesome piece of joy!
M7 will probably rock also I'm not sure about Sense 5 though....
SG S IV is coming – with the new ROMs keeping us going for a bit longer on Inc S, this might also be a contender for potential upgraders.
I would consider another thing when buying a new phone: HOW u get s-off'ed or rooted...
I would prefer to root using a bug and "not" voiding warranty, rather than ask asus or htc to unlock my phone and say goodbye to warranty...
I was using Incredible S too until last month when I finally got the Nexus 4. For this price, nothing much can beat Nexus 4 at this moment. The only complain I have is I wish the screen can be bigger......
I played with the HTC Butterfly last week in Taiwan during a business trip. Wasn't very impressed......
I would think in terms of development, SGIII would be a safe choice, although I think Nexus phones are the best in terms of the amount of active and future development since they are the first to get OS updates. The only thing that stops me from getting one is the lack of a removable battery and Microsd storage, which are things I don't want to go without. If those things are important to you, I'd probably go for the SGIII. Just my 2 cents anyway
Xperia Z especially if you are up to serious customisation since Sony is being very very kind to devs now.

I'm waiting for the HTC M7
but I have been eye-ing off the Nexus 4,
Thanks for so many suggestions.. really appreciate..
so the final list (so far) I can see is Xperia Z, SGIII/IV, NoteII..
From my past experiences, Sony's phones are terrible!

Nexus 4 all the way if you can manage to get it for 300$ anyhow !! Nothing really beats this phone in any aspect at this price tag !! If I have unlimited data plan + Dropbox acc then it's ok for the lack of storage. So basically no cons at all
And about the all glass design get some cover and you will be ok.
Nexus 4 = amazing display + amazing camera + amazing hardware + updates + amazing design + premium feel (not cheap plastic s**t ) and a lot of ram ... and many more
What can you hope for more in a smartphone??

The way the phones are built for example - I don't like the look of the phones or the way the buttons are set out.
The software and overlay I also don't like.
There's more than just this ^ however when I test the flagship models of Samsung, HTC, Sony and LG, I just don't get the same feel from the Sony and LG as the HTC and Samsung.
But like I said, I just haven't had good experiences with sonys. Saying this though, i haven't used the new Sony phones so they may have stepped up!

thanks a lot.. my friend has recently purchased a SONY phone which included Bravia engine and it was smooth like anything..
even the screen look and feel was amazing..
