Hi,
is MTP suppose to be faster for transfer of file to my micro sd card than when I mount my phone as usb mass storage?
I tried to transfer a 350mb file using MTP and it took about 25s while using usb mass storage it took about 1min 10s.
I also notice that for usb mass storage, the transfer speed is about 5MB/s which is half of my micro sd card rated speed.
I am currently using Criskelo v11.2 with speedmod k3-13. Thank you

Yes while using MTP you will feel the difference it is far superior than Mass storage mode. Read/Writes Faster

sahil, i wanted to ask about a problem im having, when i connect to pc and want to transfer big files theres a message on my Note saying synchronising . It goes on endlessly. It kind of freezes the phone and if I want to transfer a file the pc says N7000 is busy. I think this is in MTP. I can delete / transfer small files but not big winzip rom files from sd card !
what should i do ?

yes , i was trying that
In any case int/ext mass storage mode should be fast, if you start time from copy command to finish paste. Basically mtp initiation is slow.Though difference varies with number of files as well size of files.
Mtp - android handles input output, while mass.storage - works from block level. u can access just like partition of os.
MTP i think still not wotks with Linux.

Your external sd are mounted in the internal...
So it should be /mnt/sdcard/_ExternalSD
So just check in folder _ExternalSD on your sdcard

on the phone this is corect
but if i connect to pc , then i turn on usb storage @ phone
first the phone says " sd card safe to remove"
then notting happens , I turn on usb storage again and then I see only the internal @ the phone , tryed many thing , always I only see the internal , because the phone always seems to safly remote the sdcard first ....
puth the wired thing is wen i conect the phone on pc I can see two cardreaders
first one , the internal memory of the phone
second most be the sd card , but because the phone "safe remove" it first , I cant access it ....
really wierd
I have the same issue here, davjan.
I hope LG will fix this in a next firmware update.
(that they'll find a way to treat both SD-cards in the same manner).
It is the normal behavior to safely unmount the external SD. It does that to provide the computer with 2 different mass storage devices.
Do you happen to have a linux computer nearby?
You could view in dmesg how the SDcards are viewed.
Anyone found a solution to this problem? Why some people are able to see both cards and some others not?

I have the same problem as well. When I turn on the USB storage the pc is "seeing" only the internal sd card. The pc (under my computer) shows 2 different hard drives. When I turn on the USB storage only one of them "turns on" with 5.5GB. There is a file within the internal sd card called External sd card but not sure if this is the "way" to add stuff into the external sd card... anyone?
sd card
you must format sd card in your phone before use. settings-->sd card-->format external sd card. Its solved my problem too.

that's not true - it's working for me with WGSpoelstra's GB Edition 6.6.0 !
maybe u have to remove all the phone drivers on your pc and install the lg united mobile driver...
omg its about not using any non standard usb mass storage drivers. dont you get it?
I have the same problem with CM7. Can't connect to PC and don't have internal SD Card. Please give me solution. Thanks
Something goes wrong when the phone mounts the internal SD card. It is possible to modify the vold file in /system/etc to get it to function, but I couldn´t. I think your local Linux shark could.
I bought an external SD card to solve the problem. When you are using an external SD card, your PC i able to recognize both the internal and the external.

I may be a bit thick but am a little confused about how the storage is shown on the NOTE
If I look in setting storage it says .......
Total storage 14,28 GB
Available space 10.34 GB
(where is this phone or card?)
Then.....
USB Storage
total 11.07 GB
Available 8.73 GB
(I have nothing in the USB port as far as I know - just a 16G SD card in)
Then.....
System Storage 1.59 GB
(assume this is on the phone itself?)
Also when I link the phone to the computer it only shows .... a phone .... a SD Card and that is all?
While I am on this linking to the computer cant find an option to "Unmount" the phone either on the computer or the phone - feel a bit worried just pulling the plug out? memory sticks like you to unmount them or you may lose data????? Dont want to wipe the phone?
If anyone, more expert than me, can help explain some of there things I would be grateful
Hope there is someone out there that understands storage on the NOTE
Thanks
Pete

USB storage is the internal storage space AKA 16gb but 2gb for system storage and 1for OS so you have 11gb. your micro sd should be the 14gb davon 10gb are free. on connect with a PC you should see a N7000 under devices (C:/, D:/) in it should have Card(micro SD) and Phone(internal storage).
just unplug the cable. If something happens then blame Zeus and the Olymp God's. ;-)

Connection to a pc is manual on Note. Unplug usb cable. Menu -> settings -> wireless -> usb. Tap connect with pc (or whatever the only choice is) then plug in usb cable. Next touch connect @ green android and then ok (if it pops up). Disconnect by tapping disconnect under orange android.

So let me get this staight
USB is not Universal Serial Bus -- but internal memory?
Then from the USB comes the 2G for the system and 1G for android?
So where has the 16G Micro-SD memory card on this list (paid good money for that!!! ) - can see it if I link the phone to computer but not on this list?
Is that what it calls total storage or does it TOTAL everything?
Thought android was easier than Microsoft's rubbish operating systems ??

Yes USB is your internal flash storage that comes with the Note, 2GB from them assigned to apps only, some for system files and the rest is for you..
The SD card I believe is what is showing as 14GB under total storage, and total here refers to total external sd card only not every storage you have
Total storage 14,28 GB
Available space 10.34 GB
This is the external microSD card you put in. If you use Myfiles you see this in external_SD folder.
USB Storage
total 11.07 GB
Available 8.73 GB
This is part of the 16GB storage comes with the phone. Your internal sd card. If you use a program like ES explore you see it in sdcard folder.
System Storage 1.59 GB
This is part of the 16GB storage comes with the phone. Your download apk is in this storage unless you move it to the internal SD using Manage Applications program come with the Notes. Not all program can be move to internal sd card.

It depends from app to app. some app are coded that way that they cannot be moved from phone to usb like banking app and few other apps. some games are automatically downloaded to your usb memory and some apps can be moved as well.
please specify which app you are not able to move and i'll check that.
did you find any solution? because I am unable to move too. the button says move to usb storage. but usb storage is not there.

Sorry sorry it says move to sd card. But there's no sd card inserted. There should be a dedicated button to move to the 16 gb storage.
The 16gb in built storage is referred to as sd card.

So are you saying when first installing the app it's saying no storage space or when you're transferring it to sd card there's not enough space? Two different things.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
when I want to transfer the app then it says no space. I have 8 gb free in storage and around 1 gb internal memory free
What rom are you on? If on jb, try transferring the app to sd using application manager, see if that works. If it still complains it's because you have residual odex files left over from previous uninstall or other expired data files and there are threads on how to remove them.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I have stock jb rom 4.1.2
I am trying using application manager, the app2sd also diverts to the default app manager.
In the application manager, what's the status of the move to sd card button? Is it greyed out or click able? If is greyed out, you will need to use root and TB to move then to sd card.
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda premium
it's clickable, I can click it but it gives error
I am having the same problem.
I did a fresh factory reset (STOCK JB 4.1.2) and format USB Storage because my Note was becoming unreasonably slow. Needless to say, it's lightning fast now, but as I begin installing apps and internal memory starts decreasing, I want to move apps to the internal SD card (USB Storage) which currently has 11gb free. When trying to move I get "Unable to move app. Not enough storage space". How is this possible?
I do NOT want to use an external SD Card, as the phone starts getting slow whenever anything is downloading to it. Even when updating apps it starts getting stupidly slow to do ANYTHING! Rooting is also NOT an option.
I'm incluing some images to give a better perspective.
I am currently using CM 10...when i connect my phone to my pc, it shows up my sd card but doesnot detect the internal storage...however, i restored to stock to check this and the internal memory showed up in the pc...i need help because i want to transfer files to internal memory but i dont want to remove CM 10
The Only Internal Memory is 90MB So Not big
Internal memory is /emmc so try looking for a way to mount that

You can use a program called "Android commander" It can push and pull files form your root directory, so be careful with what you do.
As far as i know, twrp gives you the option of mounting seperate partitions. Don't know about cwm. So if you don't wanna download another program, you can do that. And ofcourse there's always 'adb push'.
Cwm too gives you the option to mount internal/external storage. You have to go in 'mount and storage' then select the last option (I don't remember how it's called) and then you select to mount internal storage and you plug your USB cable.
