Hello Gang,
I am highly knowledgable on several Samsung devices, but zilch on the Ace 5830. My sister just got an Ace, and she's bumping into the "Low Memory" error. Then I noticed that the Carrier has installed all sorts of bloatware branded by them which....she never uses. Now, I am interested in a stock-like ROM that keeps Samsung's Apps, no wacky bootscreen, and not many tweakware (just to be sure some young curious fellow messes with the phone). Gingerbread is fine, this is not at all for an advanced user.
Thanks
Paul
Well. If you want no tweaks and bloatware.
The best is stock ddkq8.
Rooted, and with the cf-root kernel.
For low internal memory.
Do this:
1. Backup SD Card.
2. Reboot to cwm recovery. Here's how to partition using cwm:
Reboot to CWM Recovery
Go to advanced
Select Partition Sd Card
Select in MB, how much you want to partition on sd card. 1024 mb is quite enough.
Select 0m for the next screen.
After it's done, Reboot
Now download S2e or apps2sd and move apps to sd-ext partition.
To Root and install cwm, use my guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797986
Cheers,
M567.

Just like what nathan said, stock lite might be the rom you're looking for. It's lighter and more efficient than the original stock rom. All of the useless bloatware included in the stock rom is not present in stock lite rom.

Sorry about the multiple posts . The page didn't redirect me to the thread after submitting my post so I assumed that I need to submit it again. I'll immediately delete my multiple posts.
Or you might want to use Adrenaline rom XWKT7...it's light too and super fast......dta2sd is also pre applied, so there's no need to do extra steps...fyi, there are users who complained that stocklite is not as fast as adrenaline...but that's a user review...nothing personal...

I Have Rooted my Note with Odin and are on kernel KK5.. Im thinking of install a new kernel and getting a custom rom for improve the speed, battery and hopefully no lag after reading different topics here, its pretty hard too choose? anyone know for sure whats the best out?
Look at them all, read the responses, then pick one. There is no such thing as "best".
Agreed!
Its what best suits your needs. CF-Root may be considered as the most stable and close to stock as possible with just Root.
That may be what you want to start with.
The best ones are: of your considering and best choice to fit your device
yes there is not a best rom (never ask about which is the best rom)
there are different roms
some uses some devices/cpu drivers/controllers/governors some not, some are lighter some are more heavy
some looks quite similar to stock and some others are completely different
some boost speed others boost battery usage
i think that for make a good choice 1st element is to see who made the rom: there are some devs who have been tweacking/writing roms for years on older devices and have a strong strong reputation
2nd element very important is to check the comments of the people who tried it on the threads: read 1st page of the post and then go to last page and read the 10/20 last replies
usually for noobs like you and me the best is to go for a well tested rom without 2 many problems
i wouldnt dare to install cyanogenmod 9 so far....
anyway if i were you i would try the rocket rom vers 20 and then upgrade to rocket rom 21
this rom has a long development and its quite reliable
being .21 version many bugs have been amended and the dev is very active and nice.
2 go for reliable rom as beginner is the most intelligent choice!
hope to have been helpful

I recommend him to install cyanogenmod 9 for an adventurous/risky feeling !!! lol
Hi, my name is g4ndr1k and I'm a flash addict.
I've tried almost every ROM and now I am on DarkyROM. Hopefully it would be my last before ICS.
My other favorites are Cassie's, CheckROM, KingDroid and Romow.
For giving a precise answer (of course, only IMHO):
CheckRom v5 with either CF Root oder SpeedMod Kernel.
But, in general: use what suits your needs best. How? take a look at every ROM.
Honestly as of now the custom ROM's dont really stand out that much compared to the stock ones, on a day to day basis with a blind test no one can tell the difference.
I was looking for smoothness, stability and the minimum lag without changing a lot in UI, stock LA4 deodexed with fm 2.0 kernel was my best choice after trying several roms, I'm satisfied with what i have before the ICS comes out.

if you already rooted and installed CWM recovery, then no need to flash using Odin.
just copy Zip (ROM) to SD card and reboot in CWM recovery then flash.

Im actually starting too wonder if id used Odin.. This is the package i used: DooMLoRD_v3_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su
but anyway, i dont think i have CWM recovery installed, i have downloaded Rom Manager, but when i push the Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. I can only choose between a few samsung choices like SII but no Galaxy Note?
Currently on rocket 21 but id highly recommend checkROM v5. Seems the most stable with superb performance and battery. Flash abyss kernel 3.5 and overclock and undervolt to 1600. Guarantee you'll love it. With checkrom you can install missing Samsung apps from kitchen and a variety of mods to suit your needs. Would recommend ics keyboard if you use fingers to type or swype if you use the pen a lot.

same question here
i have just moved from galaxy s2 to note,,,n im not aware of notes development pls sugesst a god day to day stable rom
The Indian version
Currently I am using the Indian version from a weak ago and its perfect
didn't face any issues with it
the battery is lasting for me with normal usage(Include gaming, surfing the internet, using the cam etc" by 14Hrs a day
I highly recommend this Rom based on my experience
I think you have two options.
1. If you are in any custom ROM (for eg. RocketROM) , then go back to stock & as others have chosen Upgrade Via Kies, you can too. You will be loaded into ICS Version of your country (if it has been released ).
2. If you think stock ROMs are not good for you, you can go ahead and choose amongst the huge sea of new custom ROMs available under development thread. But beware of what you flash. Nowadays, the brick bug for ICS is the demon which even the worst droid addicts fear.
Let me know if you want any more support! xD Good Luck!
I don't know if you've heard, but official Samsung ICS ROMS and kernels along with those based on them can brick your device.
I recommend you something based on CM9, like ParanoidAndroid. It's awesome and safe.
I find Alba's the best Samsung based ICS Rom out there.
It's speedy, stable, good battery and most importantly, S Pen functionality.
Cheers!

Alba
i have tested most of them with the golden method
after i have installed a prerooted gb rom...through odin...
so when ever i am i do the above first and then what you see below..
and i think it is as safe as it gets...
Four steps to installing any rom for galaxy note
1. Flash gb kernel ( i use abyss 3.9 )
2. Reboot to recovery
3. Data, cache and dalvike cache wipe
4. Flash your rom.
This is the universal instructions for any ics rom installation.
No brick and maintain root.
now to the point ... alba is suppose to be safe because it's on Franco kernel
and not CF... etc...
i find it very good..... i had a little battery drain but after i installed juice
and used Titanium to "STOP" all the bloadware its easily the best in battery so far ... (end up a day with quite some talking ,radio , internet and have 35 to 40% to spare)
so far...i am very happy with my set up.
kingdroid 2.1 w/ franco kernel
Asylum is the best in my opinion.

Hi Harris. I am using Liquid Smooth v2 ROM on my N7000. It's pretty fast, not sure about battery yet since I have used it for only a day. No S-Memo, but I found an app that IMHO is better than S-Memo, called "Lecture Notes".. very handy, and your S-pen works perfectly on it. You can also disable finger, so your finger does not interfere with your writing.
Only issue is this Liquid Smooth makes every thing black, including your Gmail and Google Play... it's good to save battery on N7000 Amoled screen, but not very pretty. Browser appearance is unaffected (white website stays white...)
Another issue, my Kindle app doesn't work here.. still dunno the cause. Can download books, but always crash when opening the book.
Cheers!
What is this question?
As you can see, you are asking a question that is not possible to reply. Everybody has his own needs and reasons for using such or such features of a custom rom... So, the best is the one you test yourself and are happy with.
Just think about what you really need and read the features of the custom rom. As simple as that. When two or three match your needs. Then try them and select for yourself.
E.g. if you need s-pen, for the moment you should not go CM9 because it is not there (yet or never).
E.g. look at the screenshots. Do you like them? Well, choose.
i agree

I agree 100%.
For me it's ics alba right now.. the one i am going to stay for a while...
i couldn't go to a rom without integrated FM radio or pen for example..
as for instructions...
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/43609376/Steps for a Rooted GB/Steps .txt
use this... i have tested it many times in 3-4 notes... it's as safe as it gets...
inside the dropbox folder i include a Self extract rar with everything we need..
it's about 530 mb but it's the one folder you will need to go into ANY ROM
you only have to choose the custom rom of your choice after you are done with the folder..

An update to this. Now there is Liquid Smooth v2.1, the theme color is back to stock Android so it's pretty again. Most importantly, it is now very much smoother and faster than v2. Give it a try! I like it very much.

hello everyone. first post as you can see. i m not new to the android world, but i m not into modding, so after the buggy stock rom bugged to death, i installed a early CM7 for the SGM. it was maybe 6 months ago.
right now it pretty much ruined. the cache or some inner app folder started to build up, and i tried all kind of things to free up space, till 2 hours ago when i did something and now i cant install any new apps, and having only 13 MB left is not good. i want to start over, but this time i want to do it my way.
what is my way? well, tell me my taste sucks, but i think all of the GO EX apps are awesome, so i'd like to flash a new rom, if possible using just the CWM, that will have the GO: Launcher, SMS, Dialer, Contacts, Calander and Keyboard. the full monty. i dont want wallpaper manager, or google voice (doesnt work in israel), or "Car Home" (what ever that is :| ). for mediaplayer i use playerpro. i want it to have all of those as the basic package, and also opera mobile.
so, the questions (after all the demands lol) are:
1. is there a very basic, flashable from CWM, ROM, that can do the job i need?
2. if the answer for 1 is no, how hard is it to take a basic rom and mod it to suit my needs?
3. since i learned to live with my buggy CM7 and pretty much not using many apps, i can also just install some good rom (using CWM) and let that be. but is there one good rom out there? it seems that in the development forum its all about beta rom's witch S voice and ICS or something like that.

as per your query: Fastest one available is RocketRom v12 based on Samsung TW ROM XXLRT ICS 4.04
I've been looking for the fastest rom mostly in terms of gaming, but also for UI--how long it takes for a window to close, the dialer to come up, etc.
I've tried most of the new jb leaks and a few older ics roms.
The single FASTEST rom I've seen so far is CM10 with the latest hydracore oc kernel and bloat apps stripped away. No, it is not ics, but is faster than any ics rom.
There are some things I don't like about it, mostly with the way it looks, but in terms of pure speed--nothing I've seen so far matches it. It is lightning fast.
The new jb leaks are very nice--they look better than any other roms I've seen, but no way are they as fast as CM10. Not even close.
If you willing to try JB.
Paranoid Android 2.5.0(not 2.5.1) + Hydracore 7.1 kernel +Nova Launcher is blazing fast, I mean like Note2 kind of smooth.
So far only 1 bug I know of, the volume with earphones are quite low(they fixed this in 2.5.1 but induce A LOT of bugs and memory leak came back.
The headphone output is lower than normal but not SUPER low. totally acceptable.
I'm willing try any. The paranoid android and cm10 both say i must flash from a cm9 or aosp rom and not a stock ics due to bricking. Im running the latest xlsa again, is that a aosp rom and im safe to flash?
Matt
gaming performance wont be as good and smooth on AOSP/CM10/Paranoid based ROM compared to Samsung ROM

That isn't true at least not for me and I've tried both, repeatedly. NFS most wanted and Dark Knight both have visible slowdowns on jb leaks but not on cm10.
Op - just try both and compare.

root and efs backup first! save on multiple locations, of the phone especially. Especially if you are going to try different csc roms then your phone.
for best result, backup data like pictures (to external sd) and contacts (to gmail),not apps or app data. When rooted(will void warrantee), flash if on stock rom speedmod kernel (you need safe kernel for wiping) with mobile odin. Take out sim/external sd card, and format all in mounts in recovery mode (except efs), ignore error messages, factory wipe, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache(in advanced)
After this your pc odin install will be fresh and without stuff lingering that could cause all kind of issues. Just lije bot recovering your apps/app data. That could cause issues as well.
all at own risk.

Hey guys and gals,
Noob here, only installed 1 or 2 ROM's in the past, but I would now like a hand deciding on a suitable ROM for my needs on my Galaxy Tab P1000 (UK/European)
I would like a ROM that is nice and responsive, has good battery life and is fairly customisable, and I guess most come already rooted? I would prefer it to be ICS or JB too I have looked about and seen a few CM10 ones, some MIUI ones and various others but I am lost for choice, I have no idea what ones are best.
I want everything to work (all wireless connections, camera etc...) don't mind things like auto brightness or similar as that isn't major. The main reason for wanting to change from the stock gingerbread is because I find it unresponsive and boring.
Sorry if this is in the wrong section, thought Q&A was my best bet.
Thanks,
Cam.
Actually your best bet is to try them out yourself. All criteria are subjective.

Hey again,
Quick question,
For the MIUI v4 ICS ROM, which I like the look of alot, it needs a "restock" and install Overcome or a CM9 guide to be followed. (ROM link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1613842 )
However, do I still need to do this as I haven't already installed any custom ROM? If I do can you give me a feint idea how I can approach it? Or can I just wipe cache/data etc.. and install the ROM?
Sorry if I am being a pain, not had to do any of this before.
Thanks,
Cam.
Many has your problem.
The thing is, newer ( well, post April 2012) ROM use new MTD layout, which need you to come from stock, or from same layout.
If your custom ROM were GB, no issue. They are stock BML partition, which the new rom can convert upon install.
If it were cm9 or 10, watch the mtd layout. The installer isn't made to convert older mtd to new mtd, so need restock.

Think I have got it, can someone please confirm my steps to make sure I am doing it right?
1. Flash latest CWM recovery using Odin
2. Make Nandroid backup using CWM
3. Flash GB-stock-safe, then flash Overcome kernel 4.0.0.tar using Odin for both (do I do these separately or is there a way to flash them together?)
4. Place MIUI v4 ROM and GApps etc.. on Tab's SD card.
5. Boot into recovery, wipe cache, wipe data and flash ROM.
6. Flash GApps and patch's etc...
7. Reboot into ROM
If it doesn't reboot into MIUI I need to reflash the ROM as the first flash converted my Tab to MTD? Is that correct?
Hopefully I have got it,
Thanks in advance,
Cam
Actually, am I right in saying CWM isn't fully supported on P1000? What recovery should I use?
Sorry for all the questions again,
Cam.
Cwm is contained in kernel.
If you are willing to forgo backup, must start with GB stock safe v5
Then overcome kernel.
By then you have a cwm recovery.

Got it all installed/flashed last night. Went all ok and I worked out that the kernel included overcome cwm after reading a guide from the link in your Sig.
I suppose its good that I love the ROM too
Thanks for the help, appreciate it.
