Modifying cm7 mms.apk - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am trying to modify the message bubble colors in the cm7 mms to look more like the stock samsung messaging.
I tried doing this by editing the image files in gimp by changing the image mode to rgb, changing the color, the reverting back to indexed mode. Only problem is when i run the newly modifed app i get a smaller message bubble than intended. Could this be a problem with my export settings? I've also tried changing the compression levels.
anyone tried this before?
see screenshots:

image for me (msgs which we send ) is greyed out in cm7. could you please work on it to add our own images as we can in cm9 unofficial

FC on apps after MM

So i have been messing with alot of themeing and all the sudden came across a wierd issue. If I use metamorph and flash my theme.zip it only updates the res/drawable-mdpi files. It replaces all of the stock ones with different ones of the same name and size. Everything boots up okay but when I try to open ceartin programs the FC immedaialty, most prgrams actually. Or if I try to go to any menus is will cause a FC! Does anyone know why?

[DISCUSS] General Questions/Problems with Theming

There seems to be a lot of things that are new when it comes to theming the Nexus S and Gingerbread in general.
A lot of us have run into various problems.
The purpose of this thread is to discuss the problems we're facing and to ask general questions regarding theming.
Issues:
1. [SOLVED] I can't flash anything unless it is the full ROM. I tried jabbawalkee's base zip but no luck.
Solution: Post 12. Thanks to ogdobber.
2. If I make a nand of a themed ROM and try to restore it, I get a bootloop. Unthemed ROM works fine.
Temporary Solution: Don't use ROM Manager to restore your themed Nandroids. Go to recovery and restore the Nand and don't reboot.
Flash the pertinent ROM again without wiping anything, then reboot. Flash the theme again.
3. How to get out of a bootloop? I've been doing the battery pull and volume up + power button does not work during a bootloop.
Solution: adb reboot recovery
4. [SOLVED] Nexus S loses signal after reboot.
After unlocking the bootloader, I used paul's Superboot to get root and used ROM manager to flash the latest CWM. All is well except every-time I reboot, I lose the signal (it shows emergency calls only) and I have to search for available networks in Mobile network settings.
Solution:
In the dialpad enter *#*#4636#*#*
Select phone information
Scroll down to preferred networks
Select "WCDMA only"
Click on Update
You need to re-enter the SMSC Carrier number. For WIND Mobile Canada, SMSC is 16135009000
Android requires you to enter this info in Hex.
Hex = 07916131059000F0
For Mobilicity Canada Hex = 07916174080001F6
In the dialpad enter *#*#4636#*#*
Select phone information
Scroll down to SMSC field, enter 07916131059000F0 and done. Then reboot.
Theming Guide:
Master™ started a guide where we could post useful stuff like the transparent notification bar & anything else in a simple Nexus S (or gingerbread guide...)

In regard to #1, you're right about that. The mount line is incorrect, I believe it needs to be changed to ext4 instead of mtd but I haven't gotten the line just right yet. I contacted PaulOBrien and Koush for assistance but didn't have much luck getting it right.
In terms of #4, I actually didn't have that same issue with his Superboot...but perhaps I overlooked it.
Hopefully we can get a theme zip base to work from. I'm hoping one of the ROM devs can jump in and maybe push us in the right direction. I'm not a code type of guy so I let the coders do the update script stuff . In the meantime, we'll just have to use the full ROM.
Thanks for this thread sonny!
On the Galaxy S I can find the data and wifi icons for the notification bar no problem, but I can't seem to find them anywhere for the Nexus S (along with a couple of others). Sorry if the answer is obvious, but I'm stuck. Could someone please point me in the right direction?

this is a solution to problem 1.
in the META-INF\com\google\android needs to have updater-script and update-binary
the updater-script needs the following line
Code:
run_program("/sbin/busybox", "mount", "/system");
attached is a meta-inf. use it in place of your current one for flashing themes
Thanks ogdobber.
Hi,
I'm a newb to theming. Can anyone point me to the right direction to change my stock news widget to transparent?
Thanks in advance

start with the 2 links below, you basically need to change the transparency level on the widget_background in the drawable(hdpi) folder. but it is not that easy because it is a .9 png (unless you go 100%)

Here is a thread by rori that he themes a bunch of stuff to transparent smoke http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731625
I can't for the life of me try to figure out how to make an object in photoshop have a transparent background. I make the background transparent, add the object (eg: a number) and everything looks great. Then once I flatten the image the transparency disappears. What I don't get is up until I flatten it, the whole background is transparent. I'm completely baffled, can anyone offer an idiot some help?

What image is it? And by flatten it, do you mean you are making it an indexed image?

Its a number for a Beautiful widgets clock skin. By flatten it I mean in photoshop CS5 when you make an image with multiple layers (the layers get created automatically when I try to add anything, in this case text) in order to save it as anything but a .psd you have to flatten it (IE force all of the layers into one).

Exactly, I'm trying to save it as a png but in order to do that I have to flatten the image which causes the transparency of the background to disappear.

will somebody please insert a image in the dialer

i can post my rom apk to get the exact dialer apk.
im just asking to see if any one can simply insert an image in the background for the dialer, and able to change it thru ninja morph.
an image for the dialer, and for the settings where rom control is, "about phone" display, sounds, etc.
i had this flashable mod earlier but it was for ics and no longer works for jb 4.1 and 4.2.
and i could easily change images thru ninja morph.

[GUIDE] Change the dpi on your S5

Change the dpi on your Galaxy S5!
Requirements: Root, Supersu, and a nandroid or build.prop backup to go back to in case you mess up.
I tried this out on the Stock S5 Rom and the Extreme Debloat 2.1.2 Rom
1. download build.prop editor from the play store.
2. Click on the '+' at the bottom, click predefined properties, then find ro.sf.lcd_density then put in the desired dpi value.
3. 480 is stock for the S5, 422 is what you see when you use a rom-slot When you make the change, approve it with Supersu. Make sure it happens.
4*. If you're being safe and using a rom slot to try this out, you have to shutdown the device, let it vibrate, then take out the battery because the shutdown sequence freezes. After that pop it back in and turn on your phone. If you're on the stock slot, just reboot
5. If you're new dpi number works, your phone will boot properly, if it doesnt you will get a 'device memory damaged' alert and even if you click 'reset device' it will continue to do this whenever you turn on your phone forcing you to restore the build.prop or nandroid with a backup.
Apparently, my method overwrites the hidden ro.sf.lcd_density that doesnt appear when you search build.prop with a new and visible one! Hopefully I've discovered something that will contribute to this board. Enjoy!
To fix the small camera problem, you can use xposed framework module app settings and change the dpi back to 480. Im having difficulty fixing it for the phone dialer. Hopefully somebody can find the solution.
Please post working dpi's below.
Confirmed working dpis: 480, 422, 420

You would change SystemUI, that changes the notification bar/panel as well though among other things and makes having your dpi lower pretty much pointless in my opinion.

Is there any way to change the background image?

I get so far as to finding the location(s) of the two files it is using:
(/data/app/com.google.android.projection.gearhead-1/base.apk/res/drawable-land-night-nodpi-v8)
(/data/app/com.google.android.projection.gearhead-1/base.apk/res/drawable-land-nodpi-v4)
They are both 2560x1440 images named vn_bg_overview.png
I have tried to edit the base.apk and change the files to a new image, but of course putting it all back together and it doesn't work. Maybe cause I am not signing it, or whatever other reason - this is beyond me.
Maybe someone here can help?
Currently trying to change it thanks for giving the exact location of images.
Can we see what is the original image to understand what we try to change? Perhaps others may interest. Thanks.
Sent from my SM-T700 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I tried to change
- \res\drawable-nodpi-v4\bg_overview.png
- \res\drawable-night-nodpi-v8\bg_overview.png
each 800x400 px. - I guess this is for car headunit.
I unzipped replaced and zipped again, but I have in mind that there is some special way to zip back... (Was long time ago when I did try this before).
Other way I tried was to replace image using "APK Editor" on phone, but after reinstalling updated apk AA wouldn´t come up.
