Humm... Everything I've read regarding the Note 2 expectations (from reputable websites), says the Note 2 will have a slightly larger BUT NARROWER screen (viewed in portrait mode).... A similar asthetic / screen ratio to the Galaxy S3.... Not sure about anyone else, but I hate that "qHD" aspect ratio... It just makes the portrait view too small IMO... Personally, I'm perfectly happy with the Note as it is
Sent from my SGH-T879 using xda premium
Here's my thought on the matter...I could care less that the N2 is being announce at the end of the month. I knew that before I bought my N1 and that is perfectly fine with me.
Samsung hoodwinked me once with the GS3 and the lack of UMS. I'm going to wait this one out and see where the dust falls with the N2. If the N2 supports UMS then I'll most likely upgrade when possible BUT I have a sneaky suspicion that it will end up being more like the GS3 and not support UMS.

USB Mass Storage, the Note doesn't have either. There is mods to get around it, but the standard is MTP (Media Transfer Protocol).
I thought the workaround for that was to select "USB debugging"? I haven't tried it, but it seems to work on the GS3?
Sent from my SGH-T879 using xda premium
No. Are you just assuming? I have had both phones and you need an app to enable ums, or have it cooked in like flapjaxxx roms.

Sorry but you do not know what your are talking about. Please stop.
The Note DOES have UMS. It is there, no mods required. It come from the factory that way and the phone has MTP too.
Heck I even did a write up on how to simplify the process of it down to a click.

No, you cannot use "USB debugging" on the Note if you want to use the (built-in by default) UMS feature. It will tell you to turn it off.
I would have never bought the Note had it been missing UMS. Just say no to MTP!
Sorry for the oversight..... I never use mass storage mode..... I have a Samsung USB dongle that I use just for plugging USB "thumb" drives into my Note..... Kies is just way too slow, so in that respect I can see where just copying straight from PC to Note would be much faster in mass storage device mode.... I just seldom use it and use my adapter instead (old habit from my GS2-days)

A few things have me lost with what you're saying. I don't know what the dongle is that you're talking about~how that works, and the GS2. Do you mean the Galaxy S II? If so, that has UMS also - no MTP.
Also UMS is used in almost anything with a USB plug/port. TV's, Car Stereo, PC's, DVD Players, Game Consoles. I also use my devices on these too.
Rosedog....
The "dongle" I'm referring to is a micro-USB-to-female-USB adapter. It lets you plug things like those tiny USB drives directly into your phone, so the phone will read the data and play (or copy) it directly to the phone. I call it USB hosting capability, while I've seen others refer to it as USB-OTG (USB-On The Go). The Galaxy S2 (GS2), Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and Galaxy Note all have the USB hosting capability so they can read USB drives just like a PC can.... I use that feature almost exclusively, and rarely, if ever, plug my Note directly into a PC

And IMO offline storage is more useful, especially on a Wifi-only device, but also for anyone else with a limited data plan on their phone or data connection capable tablet. Also, pretty sure a $9 16GB USB stick is more cost effective than pretty much any 16GB cloud storage option.

There is actually a thread over in the Themes and Apps section that the developer made. He is really open to input. I like the app, as I don't have to root to use a flash drive with videos saved on it.

Well, isn't that a kick in the teeth, because I just rooted last night simply to use USB OTG. At first I kind of felt "meh" over the read only factor, but then I got to thinking, am I really going to need to transfer from tablet to external media? I'd much rather transfer from external media to tablet, do what I need to do with watching whatever content I may have, then simply delete it off the tablet... no reason to transfer it back when it's the same darn file. Some people may have uses for having a 2 way setup, but I'm sure this will fit the bill for a lot of people. I do find it a considerable bummer that ext* file systems aren't supported, but meh.
Thank you thank you thank you!

i dont understand the bickering of cloud data. it is nice but i have 20 hours of plane flights coming up. cloud data will not be a very good solution for me compared to plugging a hard drive into my tablet.
Being a non-root user, this is great news for me. I always used splashtop to watch my videos directly from my computer, though it gave me no trouble, I would much rather have the movie with me.
Can't wait till the developer puts it back up.
What is the name of the app? Can anyone share the APK?
Downloaded Nexus Media Importer yesterday. It works as needed on my GNex, Nexus 7 and Xoom. No root necessary. Amazing! I'd pay for this app in a heartbeat! Sorry have no place to upload it.

I got my dongle today and registered my Galaxy Note 2 with it. The issue I have is that the phone says it's connected to the dongle and my TV says it's connecting but after a short time my phone says that all Allshare Cast connections are going to end and then it turns off and the TV goes back to the registration screen.
Anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it?

You don't need to disable Root.
Usually mine takes a couple of those dud connections before a solid one is established. If it takes more I press the button at the back of the Allshare Cast Dongle to reset it and then it seems to work fine.
I'm able to establish a connection for two seconds before the phone says 'Connection failed. Connected device is not HDCP compatible'. Do you guys get that as well?
Is everyone that is having issues with the Allshare devise rooted? If so as I was having the same issue, I purchased Triangle Away from the market and after I ran that like 3 time in a row my devise and my rooted phone works like a charm.

I'm thinking about getting one of these before my Samsung 50% off coupon expires. Just have a few questions. I used the Triangle Away after I rooted, before flashing a ROM, so it should work okay, right?
Also, I was planning on using it to stream Netflix, can I hold a Wi-Fi connection and use this at the same time? I know miracast uses Wi-Fi and won't let you connect to Wi-Fi while streaming, but I don't know how similar allshare is. Netflix works fine over MHL, but Hulu does block MHL connection. Anyone have any issues with apps not allowing the content to be sent over allshare? I tried to search, but can only find info about set up, not the Wi-Fi or Netflix specifically.

Well hopefully someone with talent will step up with fix.
As of right now no issue running Allshare on ATT stock rooted with Triangle Away count clear.
On customs like Scotts CleanRom its a no go.
N7105 International port for att its a no go as well , Triangle Away cant be used to remove count while on that rom.
brick brick brick will occur if you do.
Anyway I flashed back to stock recovery , cleared count , synced with Allshare on first try , Cranked up Directv app and have movie blasting on a Sammy 50'' plasma
Allshare is great but severely crippled with count check in.
Installed and used triangle away and it works. Its pretty badass actually.

Allshare dongle is overpriced. Chromecast is multi platform and thus can be used with all your tablets/smartphones and computers.
I don't want this to turn into a flamewar thread. I like my N3 very much. It has certain deficiencies that work on my N1.
Specifically, On my N1, I am able to mount the SD card as a USB drive that is recognized by my PC and my laptop. I have been unable to figure out how to do that on my N3. It is recognized, but shows up as "Card" and "Phone". QuickBooks 2013 requires a drive letter to backup to. On the N1, I tap menu-->settings-->Wireless-->USB Utilities-->Connect storage to PC. Connect N1 to PC then touch Connect. That isn't possible on the N3, that I can find.
My SM-N900A is rooted so the drivers must be properly installed on my PC. There isn't any menu options like above on the N3. If anyone knows how, PLEASE post.
If I can't make this function work, this device will be unrooted and returned to the seller tomorrow.
The N3 has a great screen and very good battery life compared SIDE-BY-SIDE to my still active N1. But it seems that Samsung has dumbed down this device's capabilities as the device numbers progress. There are things my N1 will do that my N3 will not. That combined with the locked bootloader makes it impossible at this time for me to turn this device into the productive work machine that my N1 currently is.
Samsung's constant renaming of the internal and external memory is driving me nuts as well. Individual apps don't know where to backup to. EVERYTHING winds up in storage/emulated 0. The app devs have not been able to keep up with these constant changes so backing up data is useless.
Thank you for any help. My thanks also to designgears and chainfire for the ability to root this device. Maybe I'll see you for the N4.

Why open your sentence about not wanting to start a flamewar when you know that's exactly what will happen.
Anyhow, reading through your post, it seems like you have issues that 99% of the people buying a Note 3 won't care about or even notice. They are issues very specific to you.
So, keep your N1 if that makes you happy while other people will enjoy their N3's.

When I go to back it up I get a gooey interface vs. the old style drive selection. I'm not sure if that's a 2014 feature or not, I've always used the Intuit data backup. You just select your note 3 and then the card or phone...and backup from there. Not sure what's happening with yours.

I just found this on another forum about the drive letter. It's not the Note 3, but I'm sure it's the same thing for us as well.
The problem is that the SGIII (as with most Android 4 devices) does not connect as a USB Mass Storage device (Google dropped support for USBMS in Android 4). It connects as an MTP device instead and Windows does not see MTP devices as a mass storage devices, so as indicated by worwig, you don't get a device to connect to. That is why I've had to use resort to using webdav.

Can you just get a stick mount program. I know its 3rd party but the OG note is 16 gb while thr N3 is 32. You could allocate the extra space and still have the same space as the N1. I have the N1 also and can appreciate your thoughts but with the N1 becoming more dated everyday I think it would be at least worth considering more options before writing it off completely. Either way good luck with your decision!

I was unable to duplicate your results. I neglected to say my PC is Win7 Pro. I was able to find a work around. I am able to backup QB to my Documents folder on my PC and then move that backup to the card on my N3. Not as smooth as direct, but very do-able. That's my biggest problem solved. Thank you!
Things are looking up!

Cool. Can I ask why you backup to your phone? There may be a better solution out there for you.

I own a dental office. I do full image backups daily and that is a lot of data to send to the cloud. Very expensive and rather inconvenient. I carry my last 3 QB backups from my home laptop on my phone because it is always with me 24/7. Phone theft is non-existant in my small rural town. This method seems to work well for me and avoids an unnecessary $200 monthly cloud storage expense. Also allows me to backup even if I don't have cloud access.

Just a thought about the drive letter issue. Have you tried simply remaining "phone" and "card" to letters like"E" or "F" on your PC? I know you now have a work around, just wondering if you tried that

Why not use Dropbox to store them for free? Surely your backups aren't that huge? I'm an IT guy for many doctor offices and dental offices as well. A free Dropbox account is plenty big to hold the latest 3 backups. Also intuit data protect isn't that expensive if you want to look at that option. There are a ton of other options you can have that can be free or very low cost to you. If you need help or want some advice feel free to PM me.

In the meantime, would a USB flash drive suffice?

I'm curious as to why this wouldn't be the prefered solution? I keep one on my key chain for just these kinds of purposes.
I want the music played directly from my phone to my car via USB. My car does support USB with iOS, but not android. Even though I have the iPhone (my brother's though), I want to use the Note 3 ..
So I wonder if there is a way to turn my phone into a flash drive (temporarily) so that the car recognizes it.
I tried the app named USBSharer, but that doesn't seem to work at all. It actually ruined my phone that the computer did not recognized the phone, and I had to flash a new rom.
Thanks in advance,
+1

if youre rooted, you can use SG USB Mass Storage Enabler <-----Play Store Link
Looking at the reviews... It's not compatible nor does it work with the Note 3
