hi
i m not able to install paranoid (any version) on my galaxy note... but rest of the custom roms are working fine...
everytime i install paranoid rom, it gets struck at the boot samsung logo and i cant even access to cwm recovery..
then the only option left for me is to revert back to stock 2.3.6 via odin and then root
is there any developer or expert who can rectify the problem so that i may be able to install paranoid on my note

Can you provide more info, what kernel and rom are you using to flash PA?
Hi
I tried it from ics (crash v8.1, liquid black 3.2, criskelorom v9, fusion Tom 2.5, rocket Tom v10) ........ no result
I tried it from the gb 2.3.6 (stock).... no result
I used clockworkmod recovery... abyss kernel
Everytime the same problem hung on the boot logo... and no access to clockworkmod recovery....

Go back to gingerbread, root and install clockworkmod, put the pa ROM & gapps zip on your sdcard then go into recovery (cwm) factory wipe data 2-3 times, flash ROM then gapps next wipe cache 2-3 times, finally reboot and wait.

Do I need to install abyss kernel to format and wipe or the native 5.0.2.7 recovery is enough.. and is it safe to wipe cache, format factory reset in stock 2.3.6 by cwm recovery 5.0.2.7
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
It's safe to wipe using a gingerbread kernel in recovery which is exactly what abyss is, a gingerbread kernel. No need to use abyss if you're already on a gingerbread stock ROM.

i cant access recovery but can still access download mode....
even i cant understand where is the problem why paranoid is not working on my note.....confused
can i try installing paranoid without installing gapps..... will that work or not?
when you were on GB stock without rooting did you boot into recovery and wipe data, cache ?
( vol up + home + power ) buttons in combination together take you into recovery. you have to keep pressing till N7000 logo shows up, then u let go and then recovery appears
If you already know and done it then im sorry to repeat.
what method you followed to root GB ?

stock and all other custom roms are working
only problem when i try to install any damn version of paranoid
you must keep gapps ics ready for flashing with PA v0.4a,
keep both zip files on sd card
get into recovery, wipe as told before
install zip from sd card ( remember the name and keep looking till you find it ) choose zip file,, flash it,
then same thing with gapps , flash
do the wipes again
then reboot phone ( first boot takes time so be patient )
you can use the present recovery or flash abyss kernel - --go to advanced -- reboot recovery ...etc etc ( same proceedure)
if this doesnt work ill tell you a method using CM9 safe kernel tar ( give me some time)

So there's three questions here.
1) What improvements are there in CM9 over the Samsung ICS ROM that really make it stand out and make flashing CM9 worthwhile? What happens to all my apps and are there any killer bugs?
2) How would I go about installing CM9 considering the brick problem with the Samsung ICS ROM?
EDIT:
Some extra information. My Note is an unlocked version purchased from Amazon UK and I have already rooted my device, prior to which I flashed the official ICS ROM using PC Odin.

Samsung ICS and CM9 are two completely different ROMs, CM9 is the pure android experience, No junk, No bloatware, Super fast you really should try it.
However, if you use CM9 you will lose all the S-Pen features and it will become just a normal stylus, You will also lose the S Memo app(s) but there are some alternatives. To install it, Just flash a GB rom via ODIN, Flash abyss kernel and then flash CM9 (you will need to wipe on abyss kernel)
Pretty simple really I have a nandroid of paranoid android and a nandroid of rocketROM, so i can simply flash GB or ICS via ODIN and restore my nandroid, So i can constantly switch between the 2 as im undecided which one i like the most
Losing S-Pen features isn't a big problem as long as it still works as a stylus. My biggest thing is my widgets and apps. Particularly SPlanner. Does CM9 come with a decent calander along with a widget for said calender?
For installation, do I flash the GB ROM with mobile ODIN or PC Odin? And how do I install a kernel?
Sorry I'm new to the whole custom ROM world
Im not sure if the stock calendar will suit your needs but no harm in trying Theres a ton of calendar apps & widgets in the play store so you'll be fine.
As for installation, You can either use Mobile ODIN or PC ODIN, I always use PC ODIN cause i've always used it.
So after you have flashed GB in ODIN, Reboot the phone, Put all the stuff on the SD, then reboot in to download mode
as for kernels, Download this one https://dl.dropbox.com/u/69014495/GingerBread-speedmod-kernel-n7000-k2-12-Odin.tar
Flash it in ODIN (PDA) Then put this one on your SD card along with your CM ROM https://dl.dropbox.com/u/69014495/AbyssNotekernel42RedTouchOriginalLogo.zip and flash it in CWM recovery, reboot recovery (under advanced menu in CWM)
Now find the ROM and flash it Job done !
So step 1) Flash GB with Odin.
step 2) Flash new kernal
step 3)... I'm lost
1) Flash GB
2) Flash Kernel
3) Boot into recovery
4) Flash abyss kernel ( not necessary as there is no brickbug on GB, But it states to use it on the OP of Paranoid Android (CM ROM) )
5) Reboot recovery
6) Wipe and factory reset, Wipe cache + Dalvik cache
7) Flash your CM based ROM
8) Jump for joy
9) Report back saying it worked
All your softwares which are part of Samsung rom will be lost, like S-Memo or the SNote, Splanner, TW launcher etc.
The CM9 roms have their own calendar installed and which also does the work that its supposed to do. With CM9 roms you get lot of options for modification and also as per your liking.
To install - you need to go back to GB roms first. Use the following link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535025
1. The above link will give you prerooted GB Rom and will also ensure your binary count does not increase. Use PC Odin to flash
2. Download your choice of CM 9 rom like the Original CM9 or Asylum or the Paranoid Android and keep it in your phone's root drive.
3. Download Abyss 4.2 kernel and flash using the Mobile Odin. Reboot to Kernel once installed.
4. Install your selected CM9 variant from your internal storage.
The above steps will help you get CM9. My favourite is Asylum and PA. Asylum for further speed enhancement over CM9 and PA for its Tablet mode.
Hope this helps.
+1 to paranoid android, The hybrid tablet/phone mode is awesome, and it looks really good on the note, Lots of customisation to change DPI too !
Thanks to kailashnj for linking a prerooted GB rom That should save you some time !

How do I do step 6?
Okay, Once you have flashed your kernel, It should inject root + CWM on to the phone, So boot into recovery (volume UP + home + power) then select wipe data / factory reset, After that is done, wipe cache partition, then after that, go to advanced and select clear dalvik cache.
then on to step 7

no, the abyss kernel is to be flashed in recovery, Well the one i linked you to is anyway. You might not need it, as the speedmod GB kernel is just the same, The brickbug doesnt affect GB users

Flash stock GingerBread rom from PC odin and root it . Else you can flash pre rooted GB roms like Checkrom, rocketrom etc etc etc from the whichever ICS rom you are currenntly on .This is how I flash Gingerbread rom from EMMC bug infected ICS rom , flash abyss kernel 3.9 and the reboot recovery into abyss kernel 3.9 and then wipe data , cache and dalvik cache and then flash CheckRom Revo HD V6 and reboot your phone.
Once your phone is successfully running GB rom with proper root and clockworkmod recovery , go to clockworkmod recovery and wipe data , cache , dalvik cache and flash paranoid android directly ( dont flash abyss kernel or any other kernel , GB rom with CF root kernel or whichever kernel the pre-rooted GB roms like checkrom and rocketrom come with ) , and finally after flashing wipe data , cache and dalvik cache . You will boot paranoid android properly .
I dont want you to brick your phone , so explained the whole process from gingerbread rom installation

Thanx Friend,
I have flashed b4 from stock ICS kernal to Anidroid ROM, but now that is not the real problem, now i am on stock GB Rom, which i have installed via Odin, Kindly check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1783625 this thread which i have just started, i hope you will understand my problem by looking to this thread, also as i am on GB kernal right now, without rooted, so still i dont need to afraid of EMMC brick bug (I assume it is problem with stock ICS kernals.).
And I had screwed my galaxy bote and had hard bricked my phone , it was gone mate , my phone had almost seem its last days , but i did save it and gave it a new life . Well here is what happened ( again in detail ) - I was KingDroid V2 rom , even when i knew all the ics roms at that time had emmc brick bug , I was fool enough to do a data wipe :crying: , and **** !!!! my phone did boot any rom , i was not even able to flash any rom , not even stock unrooted samsung roms via pc odin . I couldnt even get my phone into recovery mode !!!!!! The only thing that was working on my phone was the download mode !! Thank god !!!!:fingers-crossed: . I tried to re-partition using the original 16GB pit file( as i have 16GB Galaxy note N7000 ) but it was in vain. And then I read some post in XDA developers which mentioned how to RE-ARRANGE the partition.
[ Well I think you don't know what happens when you do a data wipe with emmc bug infected kernel ???? Right ? well here goes an explaination fro that , (i love explaining things to others :cyclops In simple words when you do a data wipe on an EMMC bug infected kernel a part of your internal SD card gets infected , I mean it becomes non-functional , it doesn't respond to read /write commands issued over that sector of internal SD ]
so out of my 16GB internal memory , memory sectors from 1049MB to 2200MB had got corrupted( found it by trial and error method ) , i couldn't use them anymore , so using the adb from the android platform tools , I edited the partitions and shifted the partition corresponding to 1049 MB to 2200MB, and then flashed abyss note kernel and then checkrom revo HD :fingers-crossed: . Viola my phone booted , I had got over the hard brick , but my internal storage had reduced to 10 Gb instead of 11 Gb due to unresponsive sectors in internal memory !!!
Next i did a reset of the flash counter and removed the yellow triangle and flashed the stock gingerbread rom (Indian version , where I am from ) via pc odin and it got stucj at FactoryFS stage , as expected !!!! . Next I handed it to Samsung service center and just told them that i was trying to update to ICS via kies and it got stuck . After few days they replaced my phone's motherboard for free :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
My friend i think your prob started while flashing paranoid rom u said that after flashing rom u made a full wipe... so i think u lost your root... just an idea
İf u can find a prerooted gb rom or u can root your gb rom u can flash paranoid rom

I downloaded Abyss Kernel 4.2, i put on sd card, entered CWM recovery mode and installed Abyss Kernel 4.2. After that my phone does not want to boot. I was using stock 4.0.3 ICS rom... Any help?
Thanks!

ICS won't boot on GB kernel, go to cwm recovery and flash some safe ICS custom kernel, if you are not able to go to recovery then use pc odin.

Flashing stock ICS is not recommended, you may have to wipe after flash, better to flash stock or pre-rooted GB rom. You will loose you data, try flashing custom ICS kernel first , it will not wipe your data.
Do you have the cwm recovery from Abyss kernel? if so then volume rocker will not work, it's touch recovery, try again.

Use your finger to navigate, its a touch CWM and just flash notecore or speedmod.
Agree with the post above me try to flash safe kernel first using pc odin if you are able to go to download mode. Then after flashing it wipe cache and dalvik.
Any update? Are you able to resolve the issue?

Yea, i solved it. Just flashed notecore kernel with pcodin and everything is fine. Once again thanks to everyone!!!
Hi all,
I know similar questions have been asked literally hundred times, but as a complete noob to roms, I want to make sure that I get a full set of instructions and then I won't brick my phone. I want to upgrade my note to this JB Rom by cronosmachine. I'm on stock ICS 4.0.4. Never rooted or did modding to the phone. No kernel change (which I know nothing about), nothing.
I'm not sure how much info you guys will need but here are the basics:
Baseband version: N7000XXLRB
Kernel version: 3.0. 15-1115729
[email protected] #3
SMP PREEMPT Thu Sep 20 00:40:29 KST 2012
Build number: IMM76D.ZSLPN
I know that I have to first root my phone to get CWM? My guess is to follow method 1 on [24sept12]How to Root/Unroot Samsung Galaxy Note + CWM?
And then from there I don't know what to do in order to get the ROM onto my phone.
And is there anything else I need to be aware of?
Appreciate any kind of help.
yes first root usin 1a method using philz kernel.
Once done, you will have root and cwm and is a safe kernel.
Download the zip file of the rom you want to flash and place it on internal or external sd card.
boot into recovery now (vol up +power+home)
go to mounts and storage
format/system
format/data
format/cache
go to advanced
wipe dalvik cache
go back
install zip.
point to the rom you downloaded.. and wait for it to install. that's all. see your phone booting into jb.
hope that was clear enough

On Phils' post where I can download the rooted kernel, I don't see XXLRB (my baseband version), but I do see a ZSLPN (my build number). Is the ZSLPN the one i'm supposed to download?

Yes, bas band refers to the modem, Build Number is rom.

Thanks SpyderTracks.
One more question before I pull the trigger, can all this be done with the "internal" SD card? Or does it have to be an external SD?
stock recovery doesnot allow installation from internal SD. so external is required. but you can use PC odin to install it, but it will leave a yellow triangle and increase the counter. later you can use triangle away app to reset it, Final call is yours.,
So after I installed philz's root and safe kernel, I went into recovery to wipe data cache system, went also wiped dalvik. Then I went to the main menu, chose install zip, tried to select choose zip from sdcard, but it keeps giving me this error: E:Can't mount /sdcard/
Nevermind, I managed to install from internal SD. But I'm not liking the ROM that much, so I plan on flashing CM10 Nightly to try it out.
On the CM10 thread, it says that I shouldn't be on a ROM based on stock. What I want to do is to flash CM9. But in order to do that, I'm not sure if I'm already on a safe kernel (after rooting using dr.ketan's 1a method (Phil's)).
what rom are you on now?

I'm on this rom, it's a tw based rom based on the leaked jb ls7?
I am not sure what kernel it has. boot into recovery and check what you see.. If it's philz the you can just flash the cm10 on it. else. install philz xxls7

I'm not sure either, I booted into recovery, went into Philz Settings > about, and got CWM base 6.0.1.5, and PhilZ Touch 3.00 (n7000).
And what you're saying is that if I'm on Philz xxls7 kernel, I can go right to flashing CM10, without worrying the "do not flash on stock based ICS fw" (even though I'm on jb)?
Yes.. you are on philz kernel and you can directly install CM10

Thanks for the information. But I want to know what makes my case an exception from
- Make sure to run CM9 or an AOSP-based ROM : FLASHING FROM STOCK ICS OR ROMS BASED ON STOCK ICS WILL RESULT IN A BRICK! - You're warned!

.
I'm on a JB rom but it's based on stock, isn't that essentially the same as based on stock ICS?
the warning was when the safe ics kernels were not in effect.

Thanks for the quick reply!! When I get home, I'll try this out!
So what I need to do is
put the zip files onto my SD,
reboot into recovery,
install the rom,
install google apps,
wipe data,
factory reset,
reboot into cm10
I don't need to wipe system/cache/dalvik??
once in recovery
mounts & storage
format/system & data & cache
then install rom & gapps

Thanks a lot for guiding me through this, everything worked out perfectly!
great. now enjoy the cm10..:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
How come even after I performed format system cache data dalvik, some of the settings are still left on the phone? e.g. previously saved wireless networks, wallpapers... How can I completely start from scratch?
So, this is what happened. I first upgraded to the latest official JB 4.1.2 XXLSA firmware. I noticed that it still wasn't as fast as I'd like, and wanted to try a custom ROM instead. I read through the guides in here and get that I have to downgrade to a GB ROM first in order for me not to hardbrick my phone. So, I download "N7000XBKK4 ------ 2.3.6 2011 November------- N7000OXXKK5--------------------- Nordic countries" from that list over stock ROM's in the Q&A root guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997 . I follow the flashing guide to the letter, puts my phone in download mode, runs the flash via Odin, the phone restarts, and everything goes south. Basically this happens: When I start my phone it get's to the point in the GB initial startup where I'm to touch the Android to start, but then all it does is throw messages at me about this service and that service having stopped responding, untill the phone reboots. So now I have reflashed back to the JB ROM.
So basically, what am I doing wrong, and what can I do to make a proper downgrade so I can get rooted, install CWM and get down and get it on with some custom ROM's?
Thx in advance!
Same happened with me. I flashed GB and was getting force close messages. But not a big problem. Just flash GB rom again. And after flashing just delete all user data from recovery and reboot. U wont get those messages any more.

You always need to WIPE data / factory reset after downgrading from JB .. GB is safe to go ahead.. if you choose ICS then first flash a safe kernel and then do wipe
It seems to me that KK5 is non wipe, which explains why you got those messages. The rest is detailed in nokiamodeln91's message BTW, JB is still not official for our Notes. What you installed was a leak with a safe kernel (if it was Philz).

Exactly.
I had this issue too when downgrading to GB. Wipe Cache and Dalvik and you should be ok from then on.
Wow. A lot of replies in just a single day. You guys are awesome
Now you say that the KK5 is non-wipe. Are there any GB-roms which are wipe, so to speak? Or do I have to do the flash to GB, enter recovery, wipe cache partition and do wipe/factory reset, then reboot into a now working phone, set up for root with USB and so forth, root and install CWM, copy the custom ROM to my SD-card (gonna go for ParanoidAndroid) as well as Google services if I want those, and then install them via CWM/Mobile Odin?

GB LC1 is wipe. But if you want PA (which is an excellent choice) just flash a CM10 kernel in your recovery (if your recovery is safe, like GB for example). Then follow Utacka's instructions for the installation.
But if I want CWM I should do root and install CWM there? And then flash the custom ROM from CWM?

The CM10 kernel comes with its own recovery where you can flash from. If you have root issues, just flash CWM-SuperSU-v0.99.zip. In any case don't flash from stock ICS with CMW.zip: if you are on ICS and not rooted flash the relevant Philz kernel (which is safe and will give you root and CWM) then the CM10 kernel.
Edit: what ROM do you have now?
I use the 4.1.2 XXLSA ROM
Btw, anyone knows where I can download the Google Services Framework so I can install it alongside Paranoid Android? I have been led to believe it's not included as per default
Thx for all the replies!!
If you have downloaded the xxlsa rom then it's inside the rom zip file. Path system/app/GoogleServicesFramework
