Hi Guys,
I'm a newbie for kindle fire.
I tried to download some apps from Amazone from out of US.
It doesn't allow me to do so. give me error that "US credit card is required".
obviously, I do not have US credit card.
is there any other way to use Amazone from out of US?
is Amazone only for US?
thanks in adv.
Is not possible. I'm in Ecuador and when I was in the US I could use all benefits from my prime account but here I can't even download apps. My billing address is in the US and I have tried using vpn's Proxys but nothing works. The best solution is to download a third party market

I'm currently outside the US and I was able to download free apps. You probably tried doing it from the KFHD and it won't allow it because it can tell where you are from your IP.
What you need to do is fire up your browser and get on a proxy that will allow cookies. Get on amazon's app store and get what you want. Then, from your kindle, do a sync with amazon (it's on the pulldown menu) and the apps you ordered should appear in your apps library and you can then download.
You won't be able to stream videos, though.
Hi folks,
Hope in passing this in the right section.....
I have a z3 compact running stock lollipop. I've read that I should be able to access BBC iplayer when I'm abroad if I use vpn software.
I've tried a few, cyberghost and touchvpn, but when I set it use a UK based server iplayer fails to allow access to content.
Am I correct in thinking that using such software should work wherever I am add long as the location for the server is set to UK?
Any suggestions welcomed.
Thanks,
John

Try using Orbot
Has anyone tried using NetGuard or another firewall to prevent Amazon services from phoning home?
I have 5.3.1.0 on my Fire, so no root. But fortunately NetGuard doesn't need root.
I'm trying to find exactly which packages to block and allow to make sure Amazon can't update my OS, and preferably also block ads, while allowing the Play Store.
The problem I have been running into is that NetGuard lumps some services/apps together, so if I try to enable, for example, Android Contact Storage, it also enabled all of the Amazon contact related options, including all the social media connectors.
I haven't found a combination that allows me to login to Google but prevents system updates.
Has anyone successfully done this? I'd love some tips or maybe even an export of your NetGuard config.

This approach has proven unreliable on various Amazon device going all the way back to 2nd gen Tate:
- you can't block the relevant OTA services without root
- blocking by IP is only a temporary fix as Amazon rotates addresses
Despite claims to the contrary no local 'firewall' can be 100% effective without root access.

Thank you for the info. Just to be 100% sure, are you aware that NetGuard functions as a local VPN service, rather than using iptables? When connected to a VPN, the device should be sending all traffic that way. Whether it does or not, I can't actually say.

Yes, I was aware but good to ask the question. A VPN *should* capture all traffic. Whether it does on FireOS is the $64K question. To my knowledge there are no widespread reports of VPN effectiveness blocking Amazon OTA updates, but that could simply reflect the limited number of attempts. Until recently VPNs were rather difficult to understand/implement for most non-technical users.
I live in China so in order for me access play store I must use a VPN. Play store however, has disabled me from accessing and downloading updates via VPN.
I can activate (after each time I upgrade the system) play store by not being in China or setting up a VPN on a router and then connect my phone to the router. Either way is a bit annoying.
A third way is to use NAT mode when using VPN apps, but this usually means I have to create my own VPN apps (or modifying a third party VPN app I guess, I don't know how tho). This is the method I am using now. The downside is the VPN will consume more battery.
Then when I need to download updates or a new app, I must first navigate to a specific page, tap update or install, and then switch off the VPN for play store to start downloading and then quickly switch on the VPN before the download fails. This is quite annoying too. Or in my new NAT mode VPN, I need to switch the VPN to NAT mode before going to the play store or youtube.
Is there a way via some root trick that I can just disable play store from knowing I am using a VPN?
I am on Android-10 and play store 18, some older devices don't have this problem, btw.
Stupid question. Is the free VPN from Google now available on the Pixel 7 or is that coming out later?
From my understanding it will only be available (free) on the Pixel 7 & 7 pro but it isn't on the phone yet. It will be downloaded during the Pixel Feature drop (aka software update) that will come in December.

Think carefully before enabling this. Google already knows a lot about you. Do you really want them to know *EVERYTHING*? IMO, you use VPN's in order to AVOID the likes of google tracking you.
I would recommend using a separate VPN. Google earns money by using your data for advertising; this is why VPN apps that block ads are banned from the Play Store. Using a Google VPN just means that they get exclusive access to your data, and will continue to use it for their own profits. It's also worth noting that Google has been more than cooperative with governments seeking information and data on subscribers. If you intend to use a VPN for security and anonymity, I don't think Google is the right solution.
I personally use NordVPN with the app directly from their website.
I think they said it will be available to all 7/7P users from December, for a few years.
Google VPN comes to 7/7 Pro in December per Google:
