Anyone else is having really fast battery drain? Especially connected to wifi,i sat with wifi on for 1-1.5hrs and it fell from 100 to 50 easily, really disappointed,i dont like using custom roms, but maybe there is other solutions to it? Or i just have to deal with it,tnx

I was having the same problem and for the very same reason I downgraded to GB from ICS.
But now I am back again on ICS with SpeedMod Kernel K3-13 and I have absolutely no regret.
I hated ICS for its pathetic battery life but now thats a thing of the past.
You too can try it.
On 4.0.3 i got wakelocks when plugging or unplugging while the phone was in sleep.
Since 4.0.4 i have great battery life and no unusual kernel wakelocks anymore
Just try 4.0.4
Battery life is far better than in 4.0.3

Flash it thru PC Odin (the ODIN file) or the zip file thru stock recovery.

Hello all,
I'm currently running perception 10 and I'm wondering if the included kernel (Firebird) offer better battery performance compare to speedmod (hardcore)
I tought that speedmod was offering better battery performance... but i seem to get better with firebird!
What's your opinion?

Speedmod would offer better battery becoz of all the battery tweaks in CWM recovery. And many ppl have found it to be better. But whatever Kernel you use, make sure to Recalibrate and wipe battery stats for the best battery life
Thanks man,
I wasn't sure if recalibrating was required after a Kernel Flash... But I was doubting about it, as my battery meter was acting weird today. (went from 75% to 47% in 1 hour... without using the phone lol!)
I've found that Speedmod gives me the best battery life out of any kernel I've flashed (after enabling the tweaks in CWM).
+1 for speedmod

hello -
i'm considering flashing my captivate and i'm trying to learn as much as possible before doing so.
The one thing I'm confused about, do I update the kernel before I flash the ROM or afterwards? I would like to get the speedmod kernel, but just not sure which ROM to use just yet. Could someone enlighten me? Thanks.

When u flash a ROM it comes with a kernel too. So first load the ROM of ur choice, and then flash the kernel of ur choice.
1. ROM first
2. boot up the phone
3. Kernel next
4. boot up the phone
5. now do all ur stuff
Do NOT flash a new kernel without booting up ur phone atleast once after flashing any ROM.
Are there any good custom kernels that work on ICS (touchwiz) roms? I tried the lp6 rooted kernel but it was too battery inefficient imo. Franco.kernel didn't work and i had to do a nandroid restore. And SpeedyMod is GB only for sure. I'm running tmt 1.1 ROM at the moment and would like a good kernel to go with it...any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
Dafuq kernel is totally custom.

I don't think he was trying to be mean. Dafuq is the only custom ICS kernel for touchWiz roms currently. More info here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1617981

Thanks. Initial search didn't show any results so i assumed the obvious lol my bad.
I'm trying to flash abyssnote 4.2 custom redpill kernel to my note. It has been "install from sd card complete" state for about 30minutes now and numbers keep running under the screen (65000 at the moment). Is this normal?
I have Cassie's xtraliterom + lp6 modem + abyssnote 4.2 custom kernel in my Note and i'm trying to flash in Stunner ICS. But i have this problem going on with abyss 4.2 kernel installation.
I'm using this installation guide:
http://team-passion.com/index.php/roms/galaxy-note/13-ics-stunner-for-galaxy-note-gt-n7000
Edit:
It went back to CWMR when i pressed back button. I flashed speedmod kernel back and now i'm breathing again. I don't know what went wrong.
Is there any difference between XXLPY & XXLQ2 ?
Is XXLQ2 better than XXLPY ?

They have the eMMc brick bug if you wipe data or factory reset...unless you use a custom kernel like franco or speedmod.
I have found myself getting more wakelocks with LQ2 , multipdp is taking up way more juice.
Changed the radio to a newer one and made no difference.
Only thing I have noticed is that I don't get pixel salad / garbled screen in LQ2 which I did in LPY now and then. Seems more stable to me.

Generally yes, after initial disappointment with LPY, i find the LQ2 with Franco kernel quite satisfactory (no revelations though), so I'm not going back to GB,
or you may want to wait for Samsung to release brick-free update - reportedly they're working on it (ETA unknown),
or wait for stable release of CM9, which should provide the best Android-experience ever
Thanks a lot !

LPY worked ok, only battery consumption was much higher than on GB, and I could not find any way to make it behave. LQ2 -on my device - seems to have it solved (battery current usage in standby mode - with data off - below 10mA)
My Note is my daily driver and with LPY runs very good but battety life very poor after flash LQ2 my device runs more smooth and also battery life is better
Hi! everyone, I wonder when I update my Note to stock ics 4.0.3 or 4.0.4 it always not good for use, battery drain so fast and device strong heated on the top bottom camera. I try for a few stock rom still have same problem .
I want to ask witch ics stock that I can use for stable for Note or solution?
Cm9 is very stable

Yes I agree, i think something when wrong while flashing. I had a similar issue although not as bad, but because i had no idea what to do I reflashed and it worked for me. Just like windows(if all else fails reinstall and evey thing is as good as new )
As the tittle says, I'm currently running Kingdroid V7.0 which seems to use a lot of battery life.
Now this isn't that much of a problem until now since I'm leaving on a business trip so the main focus for the device is long battery life.
Which ROM would suit me the best in this situation? The stock rom or a custom rom? It needs to be stable and reliable.
I am on stock 4.0.4 and it seems much better, you can also use GB rom during your trip.

I run Stock 4.0.4 with SpeedMod Kernel and I am very pleased with the battery life of this setup..
pair those with k3-13 kernel for 4.0.4,
or speedmod k2-12 for gb and you have even better kickass battery life. I think, could be wrong but gb has longest.
modem is device dependant, but you can change that as well to save battery life.
search development for k2 and modems, k3 is in original.
note : warrantee and root on those, and loss of kies updatability.
note2: with changing roms, prior root and backup efs, dr ketan thread in general o toolbox has good infor for that.
note3: deepsleep is a possible issue on all android, and most of the time cause of battery life issues. It might be wise to use better battery stats and cpu spy for analyzing that. enought theeads on that

Thanks all I will flash the stock rom then. Currently I have the Notecore v9 kernel, how much will this affect my battery life and is the speedmod kernel that much better? I'm a total noob at this kernel stuff, I barely understand the meaning of it so it's all a bit confusing.
And can I flash a kernel by holding power button, home button and volume up method?
Because with the Kingdroid version you had this setup which lets you choose between kernels that's how I got the notecore kernel I think

So the rom itself isn't whats causing the heavy battery drain but it's all about what kernel you use?
EDIT: If I wish to flash a stock rom does it matter what country I pick? Because I actually live in Belgium so closest would be The Netherlands and they are currently on 4.0.3. If I remember correctly I flashed from GB to ICS with Open Germany, does this matter much?

Volume up + home + power will take you to cwm recovery and you can flash custom kernels using it, but it should be in cwm format not in odin .tar (you will have option to download in both formats in kernel threads). Flashing different kernels sometimes helps in improving battery life.

All blame cannot be put on kernel either but changing kernel helps sometimes and it is always recommended to flash your region specific stock firmware only to avoid problems and complications.

About the region, I think I had CSC lux so which means Luxembourg when I bought it. Which would be weird since I bought it in Belgium. Would it matter that much if I flash stock Open Germany?
thats not true, battery drain can be caused by many things, kernel or rom or aplications.
which is why its good to keep an eye out for those.
edit: or unclean installations.
edit2: single or combination of above.

seen some pretty good reviews recently on notecore, cant compare thrm myself but you can definately test which one is better on your device, rom, modem combo
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Most drain comes from the modem, the kernel (the cpu governor along other things), and rogue apps (usually ad-supported apps).
Of course some roms have issues with the system UI and such.
So the #1 tip to get better battery, find the modem that's best suitable for your country, also use wifi instead of 3g if you can, but if you're out of wifi coverage, turn wifi off or it will drain even more.
I would drop the latest SpeedMod kernel onto your ROM. Very good battery life on all ICS TW ROMs.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
My suggestion for you is cleanote ROM with notecore kernel. The best combination. I get around solid 2 days with nominal usage.
For me i had best results concerining battery consumption with the latest CM9 nightlies and now the CM9 official.
Getting 2 Days out of it with normal eMail-reading a bit surfing the web, quite normal usage.
Would the stock rom in combination with the speedmod kernel give the best results? Can't go back to GB cause I need an application from work which requires me to be on ICS.

It depends upon how you use your device and how many battery hungry apps you have.
The only way to truly know the best combination for you is to do the research on the forums and test the combinations yourself.
For me, the best combination is Rocket ROM, with a lot of stock apps removed, and the NoteCore overclocked kernel (as it is optimally undervolted).
