Whats the closest ROM to ICS thats runs on GB? - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I love the UI and operating system of 4.0.1 but my problem is the fact that the Camera, Youtube HQ and other different things dont work. So what Im wondering is are there any ROMs based on Gingerbread that look and feel like ICS?
Thanks in advance,
Jelly Bean

An ICS themed GB rom is what you are looking for
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium

Yup.
Just use a cm7 and put the ics theme by achep.
Or, you can also use stock roms, with some ics theme flashable packages..

The development Section is full of ICS theme ROMs.
Y U NO "SEARCH"??

Check development sections. Closed.

its very easy dude..
u can open rom.zip
go to /system/app
remove touchwiz.apk or some apk like that
and in that folder add and launcher u want to use
You can try ICS AOSP / AOKP / MIUI ROMs under Development thread. its totally based on i9220 Chinese leaked ROM(KERNEL). Here u ll get complete taste of ICS.

Here at XDA. Google is your friend.

BOOMED from my BOMBASTIC NOTE :-D
I actually would prefer a ginger asop too atm...
Imilka was it i think who said had made one...
But he couldnt find it anymore...
Maybee we should ask him again...
Instead of building on unstable releases
And trying to make those stable, i would like to use
Like cm7, aosp ginger or miui ginger which will be more than stable
And enough kernel supported for full functionality...
Yes, imilka had it built, but I fear it might be lost now after his HD crash.
Still, I have this overwhelming feeling that the ICS is just around the corner now. It could be only a matter of days before it drops, and then we'll have the proper bugless AOSP to play with.

True...
I am no developer but i think devs like we have here would not need more than 1 day to make a bugfree aosp gingerbread...
And i do still prefer gingerbread in a few points atm...
But the devs know what they are doing...
Their meal their decision...
Since the ICS update for note has been delayed to april/may According to sammobile i more and more see the need for an AOSP/AOKP Gingerbread release...

ICS Stunner, again pure android i suppose, with a few more tweaks..
TeamRocket if you want touchwiz and all those S apps!

I tried imilka's ROM (v06) as I want AOSP, but after a few days I decided to go back to stock until it is based on a genuine GT-N7000 image. Just a slight bit too flaky for me.

I am on ICS Stunner v4.3 now. Better than imilka's AOSP. Highly recommended!
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
The best rom for me is ICS Stunner 4.3. I noticed a few problems while using double twist but other than that its amazing and not battery consumer. I can last 16-18 hours with moderate whatsapp use and surfing
+1 for Stunner.
There's 3 types of roms:
A) Stock Rom (aka OEM's ROM) - the rom that's shipped with the device.
B) Custom Rom (ie/ "in between roms") - these are like VillianROMs, they're OEM based roms but altered by a 3rd-party developer (eg xda) for the *better*
C) AOSP Rom (ie/ based on Google's Source Code) - examples are AOSP, AOKP, CyanogenMod, MIUI.
For any new device, you always get access to A-type roms first, then B-type, then C-typer...understood?
For me, C > B > A in-terms of overall experience (as long as they offer you the features you want and are stable).
And in terms of C-type roms; MIUI > CM9 = AOKP > AOSP.
...other important points, use your favourite launcher with any rom, have all primary apps inverted (white -> black background), use a dark theme and replace the cyan detailing with a crimson one*.
So what's the best (imho) right now: neobuddy's ICS-Stunner v4.3
It's nearly 100% perfect. The only problems is a little stability issues (rare), no Super-optimized kernel (one that clocks higher while saving battery), and no support for the S-Pen.
Otherwise: maxicet's MidNote v3.1
It's not as fluid as ICS Stunner, doesn't have the AOKP options, but its decent daily driver and the S Pen works.
*Not the best example, but this red theme would save you lots of battery life, especially on a AMOLED screen:

Yes.
There already is one or two beta's. I'd advise against those at this stage. The CMT will likely support the AT&T version. They will also (officially)support the international version but that would be in 6 months time from now. (Just like they did on the i9000).

It's already available, he just hasn't posted it on xda. PM him if you want a copy or just wait a couple hours for his OpeningPost to change. Its normally just updating the system/apps to the latest with a little bug fixes and going back to ext4 (which should make things even smoother).

Take a look at Imilka's CM9 ROM in the dev section. Running it right now and it is awesome.
the s pen apps for ICS such as quill and super note are good alternatives to s pen?
Im thinking about upgrading to ics

As much as I love CM9 and AOKP from my Captivate days, at this moment in time, I cannot recommend them over "regular" ICS Roms.
Performance from my most recent test is still behind ICS not to mention missing features like MHL.
I currently prefer this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1365587
As soon as CM9/AOKP gets there, then I am of course moving to those as I expect them to be just as good as they were on my Captivate

I prefer the paranoid android rom. It's the best thing that I have ever run on my note.
if you like the stock Gingerbread launcher then stock ICS for the note is great for you.
ofcoarse you can put different launchers i had Apex on the UK ICS release and it was very awsome but.. not as smooth as how Apex runs on CM9
And if you use the SPen functionality which i really..as hard as i want i cant really see my self in using theres an app that functions very much the same as SMemo..
is just called memo just check the Themes and Apps section.
it is pen sensitive is amazing..as good as the SMemo so really..no more missing that extra 1% functionality
also another reason why cm9 is that much better is that...
4.0.4 as oppose to Samsungs 4.0.3
i cant recommend enough..
but make sure if you're coming to either one stock or custom i recommend
for stock UK ICS
and custom CM9
make sure to follow the instructions for installing CM9 ..as you need to revert to a rootable GB rom (2.3.5) and root from there and install CM9 from there..
so read read and..after that read more the install instructions
OP, I don't think you've given us a shred of info about what would make a good ROM for you.

I was on almost-stock GB for a long time and never really used S Memo.
For me, the S-Pen is a great tool for illustration, but to take quick notes I still much prefer to type everything instead.
As such, CM9 and any of its derivatives for me (currently Paranoid Android).
Have to agree, tried all kinds of roms gb and ics, stock to modded, but the best thing I have come across is paranoid android.

Paranoid Android will always top the chart for me
I love the smoothness in Tablet mode! While accessing Citrix from Tablet mode, everything seems to be in place and perfect zoom! Whilst on phone mode I struggle to read my applications..
+1 for Paranoid Android!
I'm currently running KingDroid. This has the new Touchwiz 5.0/SIII look, which in my opinion is much better looking than the old.
The KingDroid also got all of the S Memo/ S Planner apps.

Galaxy Ace ROMS

I've Samsung Galaxy Ace......running on Android 2.3.4.
and I'm wanting to update it to Android 4.0.4.
I beg all the developers to reply to this thread as soon as possible......

First of all this isnt the right placeto post this. Go and post it in ace forums. That is all i have to say
Sent from Hell!!
1.) there will never be an Official update to 404 or 411
2.) unofficial CM9 and CM10 are on its way, but are still extremely unstable and/or buggy. so if you NEED (and i mean really need, not playing around) your phone i do not recommend those to you. if you dont really need your phone (business, etc) and want to have the latest 411 rom, you are free to try them, but beware of some bugs (cam/video, video/youtube, sometimes random reboots and no mobile internet,.....)
Go to SGA Android Development section and look for it.There are a lot of roms which are ICS themed...

for now its better if you stick to cm7 based roms... these are stable and almost bug free.. however if you choose cm9 or cm10 you'll have to face daily troubles.. i've tried almost 10 cm9/cm10 based roms but switched back to cm7 as cm9/cm10 are very buggy + unstable !!
press thanks if i helped !!!
Keep calm and wait because our fellow developers are working for us totally free spending their spare time. Not even Samsung, that we've paied, is working to bring us a brand new version of Android. I hope like you to run a CM 9/10/whatever fully working rom as soon as possible but annoying them will not make things going faster.

[Q] GB, ICS, or JB?

I just got a Galaxy S and am surprised to see so many JB roms available.
I would probably switch over to this phone from my Xperia S, just to use Voodoo Sound
My question is, is JB roms currently stable enough compared to ICS or GB?
Please provide feedback only if you've tried all three versions before :silly:

Dear,
I am developing only the FlymeOS for i9000 at now ; soon i will developing a Custom Rom with 4.0.4 base...
You can really forget JB Roms , the one good JB for i9000 is only 4.1.2 ; you can forget JB 4.2.1 and 4.2.2
They are quite fast at beginning , but you will notice how lazy they are going to be ..
I highly recommend ICS roms , because they are really fast and they haven't bugs.
There are some apps that are only avalible for Android 4.0+ (like Nova Launcher) , and so I really can't see that ICS is outdated.
Thats why i only develop and port roms for ICS on i9000 device.

Yup, agreed here. Don't get us (or at least me) wrong, 4.2.2 is fantastic. But ICS is rock stable in just about eery aspect and 4.1.2 is pretty damn good as well if you still want to consider Jelly Bean.
Although @UnlimitedRom, you have to admit Google Now is pretty neat
A lot of JB apks can be pushed manually or installed normally on ICS roms anyway.. Just that ICs roms in general are less customiseable than JB roms.
By the way, FlymeOS is looking goooood

Yeah, when google released 4.2 I don't really see the point of it except for some nicer animations or not so important functions.
I was shocked at the sheer number of JB roms for this phone at first because on my previous experiences, JB don't work really well on single core phones
I'd give JB a try first and if it's really bad I would try out the rom of yours, it looks great

Hey, you never know, rumours are flaoting around that 5.0 is going to be optimised for devices with a 1Ghz processor and 512MB of rom( (one or the other or both). So you never know, 5.0 might really bring the S back to life
But yeah, 4.0.4 is a really good base for the I9000. Smooth, stable but not too taxing for the processor at all (not to mention some pretty good battery life, daaaaaaamn)

Yeah, agreed. The JB roms optimised for gaming work decently- although that's HEAVILY optimised and debloated to give as quick an experience as possible. But it's an OS optimised mostly for dual cores and above. There are very few single-core devices- if at all- that run 4.1 officially, and for pretty damn good reason. Only one I can think of is the Nexus S (Nexus version of the Galaxy S, bearing in mind), and even then 4.2 was dropped for that device. So while its still possible to have Jelly Bean fully functional, at the end of the day...
