I have had my TP dual booted since February and have used CWM the whole time until a few weeks ago. I read posts and saw Rev's video touting the benefits of TWRP so I decided to try it. I installed GooManager and flashed it through that along with the 0814 CM nightly, that's where my problems started.
I had issues with the Wi-Fi signal staying gray and was no longer able to open Google apps. Also, I was not impressed with TWRP. It did what it was supposed to but I preferred CWM. I am aware that the issues I had was related to dirty flashing the ROM and an issue with my gapps install, so I am not blaming TWRP for that but I want TWRP gone anyway but it won't leave. The issues I was having did go away with a clean install of the ROM and gapps.
I used fastboot to reinstall CWM and then went through and uninstalled GooManager and deleted all the TWRP files I could find, except 1. When I explore the boot folder I found the ulmage.TWRP and I read somewhere that I need to delete it. Only problem is, it "can't be deleted", so says ES. If I plug into my computer will it let me delete it that way or is it there to stay? I would prefer to not screw something up by deleting a file that shouldn't be deleted. I can boot into CWM from Moboot and its fully functional but when I reboot to recovery I go to TWRP.
Any suggestions?

You can also delete the uimage by going to webos and deleting it using Internalz pro.
Make a backup, just in case.
All you have to do is give ES root permissions to delete the TWRP image

This won't directly work, because ES doesn't know that /boot is a nonstandard partition. It has permission to remove but the partition is readonly, thus you must remount it read/write first. The easiest way I think to do that is:
mount -o rw,remount /boot
on a root terminal (local, adb, novaterm, or xterm in webOS). Then delete the file from internalz/es/root explorer or just rm command.

I mentioned ES because the OP mentioned it and its free but yet ES can be set to mount the partition as RW just like Root Explorer...
But the easiest way AFAIK is using CyBoot in webOS
I'm just offering alternatives because had the OP bothered to do any work on his own he would have found out what we both are now spoon feeding him

I searched this Site and Google and all I found was that I needed to delete the ulmage file not what to do if it wouldn't go away. I asked for help because I wasn't sure what to do and did not want to mess anything up. I know the way people who ask questions is treated on XDA so making a thread was a last resort.

es file explorer is a must have file manager/browser however some file permission changes dont work properly. when this happens i use root explorer from "jrummy" i have the full version that came with romtoolbox pro but the free lite version will do the trick.

Hi,
Ive always used CWM to make my recoveries. But now, with Nexus 7 (CWM touch 6.0.1.9), Im unable to locate the backup files. There is no BACKUP folder in the clockwork folder and while I did a search using google and found many answers for my question, none of them was right. And I didnt make update from 4.1.2 - I cleaned the whole device and flashed stock 4.2.1 via fastboot, so I dont believe there is some directory tree change mess. And there is no BLOBS folder either.
I just flashed the ROM, rooted it using Toolkit, flashed CWM, made a backup - and boom, nothing there, while it is visible in both CWM recovery and ROM manager. I tried renaming the backup in ROM manager and searching for its new name using File Manager (with root privileges), but I was unsuccessful ...
So, please help me or provide me with a relevant link as I dont like TWRP ...
EDIT: I deleted the /SDCARD/CLOCKWORK folder and flashed TWRP. Now, I returned to CWM, made a backup using CWM and not only I dont see the backup itself, it didnt even recreate the CLOCKWORK folder. I just made a full search in the whole filesystem and there is nothing with "clock" in name (nothing relevant). Where is the backup hidden?????
Tried using it today. Its in some God forsaken rabbit hole. First enable root in es file explorer settings. Then look in system for data, media and eventually clockworkmod. That's the help I can give u.

Thanks, but that not the place for me. /data is empty and the only folder found containing "clock" in the file structure is /sstorage/emulated/0/clockwork ... the same as /sdcard/clockwork I was talking about. only three small files and thats it, no BACKUP or BLOBS.
GOT IT!!! I dont know why it wasnt visible with rooted File Manager, but I tried ES and its there ... bam ... THANKS A LOT!
Now, whats the best way to save this stuff to a computer?
its because Jellybean 4.2 uses diff storage paths...
Android 4.2 significantly changes the way how sdcards are handled internally, your data is moved from /sdcard/ into /sdcard/0 on first boot (0 is the 'home directory' of the default user). If you go back to 4.1.2: Don't forget to move the data in 0/ back to the root of your sdcard.

Well, Im aware of that. But that doesnt explain why the files are under /data/media/clockwork. Neither it does explain why it wasnt shown/found by File manager with root privileges - although I guess its the problem of the File manager, as ES File Explorer sees that without any problems ...
Now, I switched CWM to save to TAR and made a backup. It created a folder "/data/media/clockwork/backup/2013-01-08-1214" with 9 files, size about 1,1GB. Is it sufficient for me to copy this file to my computer? Im talking about backing up the backup (heh) ...
Also, is it ok that files cache.ext4.tar, data.ext4.tar and system.ext4.tar are 0mb? Thanks!
EDIT: I tried moving a backup folder to my pc, making factory reset, copying it back to where it was and restoring - everything works fine. Although I dont get why google messed the sw insides so much - my Nexus S seems to be much better in the matter of directory tree - and doesnt wipe all my files when doing stock restore from PC ...

I've tried to root it following quite a few tutorials here on XDA (including various zip updates) but all I got was a useless superuser app without root permissions.
I think that's because the version I have is no longer compatible with those methods, but I don't know.
So I want to ask: Is there any method, no matter how hard it is, able to definitely root a Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 with android 2.3.6?
And in the case it isn't possible, do you know if I take it to one of those "repairs" shops they could at least unlock it? or do they use the same methods?

Well, I Installed CWM, tried Delete_thinkdroid.zip (didn't do anything. Think free office is still installed and working), upd_1.zip, acegingerroot.zip, gingerbred-2.3.6-root.zip, CF-Root-S5830-v3.7-b84.zip, b84-fixed.zip and still no root.
Now, my phone boots with a blue triangle in the top left corner but that's all.
upd_1.zip gave the following error:

Installation aborted.
gingerbred-2.3.6-root.zip did the same but changing the name:

no. that you need is to liberate memory space to push root files to /system
Blue triangle is good don't worry (cfroot kernel installed )
Cfroot b84 fix isn't flashable through CWM, normal that your device aborted the installation
Your error message is because your sdcard is corrupted, so copy all your data from your sdcard to your pc using an USB adapter.
Then format your sdcard using windows in Fat32 format (you can do it using your phone and selecting format your sdcard in settings )
Copy the files again and flash it when you have free space
I'm going to provide you a script to delete a serius app, wait a moment

1.Flash cf-root b84 via CWM
2.Boot android and look at an app CWM, in this app select "flash kernel" and select cfroot b84 FIX (this part fix bootanimation trouble)

I had no boot animation problems, but anyway, done that.
A little problem i just noticed is that after reinstalling Gmail and Youtube (after deleting them with the script) those two apps seem to not be working and send a couple of error messages after booting saying "process com.google.android.youtube" and "process com.google.android.gm" have stopped unexpectedly and giving the option to force close or report... So you know if I can fix that?
EDIT: Google Maps and Think free office work fine...

You can do it following the next steps:
You need to set the permissions correctly and delete Gmail.odex and YouTube.odex files if exist in /system/app before paste this new apps
1. Mount /system (R/W) in order to paste the apps
2. Just put the apps in /system/app and set the permissions like this (holding over each file, you'll change permissions)

Also how do you use the script (ie do you "install form sdcard") as you would the root.zip? I just want to remove carrier bloatware than I will unroot again. Or would superoneclick work for me? (nevermind superoneclick as I cant get it to install on computerputer keeps "encountered a problem and needs to close".

Why not if you have SuperUser installed? Search Titanium Backup and install it from Play Store. Remove any unnecessary system app using it. Root has nothing to do with removing the system app automatically or through Application Manager. So you will need the third party app like Titanium Backup.
P/S: Becareful with uninstalling/removing system app. Else you will render your phone unusable at all. (To unbrick it you will need more trick, search the thread in XDA to revive your phone)

Titanium requires root and my superuser wont root I would rather not root at all the only thing I want to get rid of are optus stuff that was preinstalled but doesnt even work on my phone. all the research that I have read says that to remove bloat ware you need to root. (please if I am wrong just point me in the right direction)

I attached 2 scripts to remove some apps to get free space. Then you could flash root.zip successfully

1. Here you could find the scripts to remove the apps and get free space (it's compulsory for the last roms to push superuser files)

I am not exactly sure how, but somehow in moboot I see :
- CWM
- ClockWorkMod
CWM works, the other does not.
How do I remove the 2nd one then?
I have been searching online, but all I can find is that installing CWM would remove the previous recovery but it does not work for me....

The only correct way to do it is start back to square one. You'll have to do an acmeunimstaller to get that off I believe. If anyone else knows correct me if I'm wrong. But do that then reinstall android with only the 4 zips

Yours is the SAFE way, but if you're adventurous and knowledgeable, you can use a root browser to navigate to /boot. Look for a file named uImage.ClockWorkMod; copy it to the sdcard (just to be safe in case you screw up); and then delete it in /boot. Make sure you also have a file named uImage.CWM, which should be the working recovery image. Reboot and the offending recovery should be gone. If you screw up, you should still be able to boot into the ROM and either restore the file you deleted or reinstall CWM.

I really thought it was more than just one file to get rid of but no...
Im on Android M preview 2 with Desparis 3.3 kernel, rooted.
I would like to update build.prop and change user -> userdebug.
Before on Lollipop all I had to do is remount /system in rw and change the file.
Android M doesn't allow me to remount /system in rw.
adb push fails to overwrite the file.
Any solutions please ?

Im on Android M preview 2 with Desparis 3.3 kernel, rooted.
I would like to update build.prop and change user -> userdebug.
Before on Lollipop all I had to do is remount /system in rw and change the file.
Android M doesn't allow me to remount /system in rw.
adb push fails to overwrite the file.
Any solutions please ?

I dont think you can write to system at all anymore, even with root. I do it all in recovery for right now.

Actually, can you elaborate how do you do it ?
I've just tried booting into TWRP, then connected the phone to PC, did adb push of changed build.prop into /system, reboot the phone and realized that the phone still has the old build.prop.

First in twrp make sure you mount system in the mount menu then you should be able to push and pull. You probably pushed the file nowhere even though I think you should've got a error message. I pulled the build.prop straight from twrp edited it then pushed it right back. Did it for the tethering hack. ? ?

sure you can. all i use is root explorer. i change what i need, save it, then reboot for it to take affect. works every time.

I didn't think write to system was working in the M builds. Must be something wrong with his root method.

maybe. im using despair and sometimes elementalx kernels. does everything else root work for you? all is working here.

Root works great in all apps.
The only problem I have is with RO system. Before M I would use ES explorer to modify and save build.prop and Android Terminal to remount system as RW. But it doesn't work like that anymore in M.
Ive never tried root explorer.

it works exactly like it did before over here. and ive manuslly changed my build.orop several times already.

Still confused as to how to enable mounting /system r/w from within Android and not TWRP. Trying FX file explorer as well as Terminal Emulator with no success. I have Busybox installed and under Applet Manager it shows the "Mount" applet as installed and symlinked to /system/bin/toolbox.

Haven't tried M as it buggy but have used Root Explorer the grand father of file explorers on everything since TBolt.

Root Explorer FTW. Always works and same file system as shows on PC.
Well Root Explorer wasn't the answer, surprisingly enough haha...
Needed insecure boot.img obtained here flashed with help from this thread, with further reading here for better understanding or doing it yourself.
Also I apparently forgot that adbd insecure by chainfire exists until just now, which could have potentially been another solution.
Hi everyone
I'm trying to get the infamous GPS Location Spoofer installed as a system app on my rooted HTC phone, but so far no luck, so I figured I would try to ask for help here, in case anyone went through a similar situation, or knows what I've been doing wrong. This is what I tried so far:
Installed the app from Google App store, and using File Explorer with root , tried to move the app folder to /system/app or /system/priv-app, , but pasting the folder there would result in an instant reboot and the app would not be there.
So I installed lucky patcher , and using apk downloader, downloaded the apk file from the App Store, copied it over to the phone, and used the "Rebuild and Install" option, choosing the option to install it as a system app , and it would process it and say that the installation was sucessfull, needs to reboot to complete, but after the reboot the app would not be there (not only not showing on the apps list, but navigating to the /system folder with File Explorer and checking app and priv-app I could verify that it was not installed).
SO I tried to use adb shell to do the work , and this is what I did:
mount -o remount /dev/block/mmcblk0p35 /system
to mount the /system filesystem as read write , and it did
cp /sdcard/Download/com.incorporateapps.fakegps.fre-55.apk /system/app
to copy the file under /system/app
chmod 644 com.incorporateapps.fakegps.fre-55.apk
to set the permissions as required
and reboot the phone, but after the reboot, the file would not be there. I tried also to create a folder under /system/app named com.incorporateapps.fakegps.fre-55, move the apk inside; installing normally , changing the mount point to read-write and moving it from /data/app to /system/app or /system/priv-app using the shell and chaning ownership / permissions , but the app will not stick , either rebooting or just re-mounting the filesystem as read-only again will cause everything that was done to be lost; and after trying any of the above one time, doing it for a second time would cause the phone to reboot.
I figure that there must be an image of the /system mount point somewhere , which gets installed every time there is a remount to read-only or reboot , or something of that nature, that will cause any changes made under /system to be lost. Maybe I'm wrong but it seems to be related to HTC phones, since there's load of people doing it on other models without issues, or maybe I'm doing something wrong, since I'm no android expert
Does anyone knows what could be the issue, or what can I do ? I searched the net quite a bit for a solution to no avail (here as well), any help is appreciated

Yes, kernel is the default that comes with the phone (3.4.10.g96cae32 , android 5.0.2)

And there's your problem. Stock kernel has system write protection, so you can't mount system as writeable. You can, but after reboot, it comes back to read only, and nothing will stick into system partition. You have 2 choices now - disable system write protection on stock kernel, or flash a custom kernel

oh I see.. didn't know about that , thanks! I'll check about disabling system write protection , otherwise look for a custom kernel, never did it before but will give it a try

Sorry you feel that way, but I appreciate the help anyway. This is something that I never tampered with before, so I still had some doubts about the process, but I am liking the whole thing and will install a custom rom on my own phone, been reading about the Ressurection rom and it looks very nice, will try it as soon as I'm better informed
