Hello. I am new to this forum. I did do searching before I came here. I am sort of a noob so sorry for dumb questions. I wanted an MIUI theme on my phone. I tried MiHome but it doesn't change the UI so I want to get the MIUI ROM on my phone but I wasn't sure how. I know you have to root your phone first, but I read somewhere that MIUI isn't compatible with different rooting procedures like CyanogenMod. If thats true, which one is it compatible with? Is it possible for me to get MIUI on my phone? I have an HTC Vivid (of course) with Android ICS 4.0.3. Can anyone provide me with a guide on how to do get MIUI on my phone, preferably a video with a step-by-step description (yes, thats how noobish I am). Also, what are the odds of me rooting my phone if I follow the steps exactly as told? Sorry for a ton of questions. To sum things up, I would like to get MIUI ROM on my phone but have no idea how. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Alright....you need to do ALOT of reading...I only say that so you don't brick your phone...but here's some info as well as how to get miui
It doesn't matter how you root your phone, you can still flash any Rom...you don't even need to be rooted to flash roms
Cyanogenmod is not a rooting method, it is an aosp rom...you cam flash from cyanogen but our device doeant even have a cyanogenmod Rom (well there is one but it was discontinued...for now)
In order to get miui you will need to do the following:
1) unlock bootloader
2) get recovery
3) download miui onto your phone (can't be any miui...has to be one made for our phone...you can find it on rootzwiki.com)
4) flash miui
More detail:
In order to unlock bootloader and get a recovery I suggest using Hansen vivid toolkit that is stickier in the dev section...its the easiest most newb friendly way to unlock bootloader and get a recovery...for the most part all you do is plug in your phone and click a few buttons...here's the toolkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1498003

I guess I'm forced to use my slow PC. Hopefully it won't shut down in the process or else I'll be screwed. :/ Thanks again! I'll let you know if it works out if you want.
Just some ideas , if your pc is slow you can download and of the files you need on your phone then transfer them over to the pc , also if you download the tool kit you shouldn't need anything else but the Rom , if you get s off you will need to do a couple of things , but as mg said do some reading on this subject to kinda get an idea as to what your working with , make sure you kinda understand it so you don't brick your ph. Better safe than sorry .
Good luck and if you have questions there is a lot of good people here and would be glad to help.

Help! I managed to root my phone, which is good. I am currently using WCX. I am not sure how to flash the rom. I tried going to my internal sd card and installing the miui zip file from there. After it reboots my phone, an htc logo loads, then it takes me to some chinese. It has like big chinese words on top in red, then in the middle it has white words, and in between the white words, it loads from 0 to 100 but I have no idea what to do now. It just leaves me stuck on this page! Can anyone help me? Do I need to uninstall the rom then follow a correct process of installation or can I just do the correct process? Also, please don't redirect me to some page, because I did a lot of googling and I found one which would help me, but the site is down. I am sure it isn't a long process. This is what I did:
1. Manually put the zip file into my internal sd card.
2. Rebooted my phone to recovery.
3. Installed the zip file, which flashed the rom.
Is that correct? Can someone please help me! Thanks!

I tried what you said. I am using the All In One tool kit that someone told me to use so I flashed the kernel (boot.img) through that, assuming it is fastboot. I then rebooted my phone to recovery and selected the zip file, it flashed it. I rebooted my phone and it still takes me to that chinese screen. Is there a different MIUI ROM zip file download? I used this one: androidfilehost.com/main/HTC_Holiday_Developers/rafyvitto/MIUI_ICS_V4/
Maybe a different file would work? Thanks in advance!

With the ROM I used, since I am S-On (which I assume you are too since you did not do the wire jump thing from what I read) after you initially flash the boot.img file using fastboot, you need to flash the rom, which you said you did. Then go back in and reboot to bootloader, and flash the boot.img again. It may have been just specific to the Rom I used, but that is the instructions I followed for mine. I hope you made a nandroid before you flashed Miui in case you ran into these troubles....

Sorry for such a Noob question.
I would like to download the basic stock rom for the N1.
My wifes N1 is not working correctly & she only uses basic features on the phone so i would like to flash it with the original stock rom.
Also at the moment we cannot turn the mobile internet off either.
PLEASE HELPPPPPPP
Bart
Here is the latest stock release in all it's options:
http://android.modaco.com/content/g...build-info-and-repacks-stock-rooted-deodexed/
The bottom most link sounds like the one you're looking for.
thank you so much for that
is flashing the rom on this the same as it would be for a Hero using HTC Sync on your computer?
if not please point me to a guide
my assumption from what i can see is that with this i dont need to root the phone or anything like that, is that right?
Hi sorry guys I still really need some help here.
I have managed to download the ROM as suggested but Im so confused from reading the different tutorials on how to actually flash the phone to revert it back to the stock rom.
I have seen the below tut would you advise using this?
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614850
however i do not know what these terms mean
adb reboot bootloader
Confirm fastboot connection fastboot devices
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase cache
is fastboot where you hold the trackball down & then turn the device on giving you the sub menu?
sorry for the noob questions but i really need to get this phone sorted
Many thanks
Bart
There's a much simpler way to return to stock.
Download FRF91 from http://developer.htc.com
Rename to passimg.zip and copy to the root of the SD card.
Hold Vol- and power on the phone, it will find the file and ask if you wish to install. Job done.
Rusty
Thank you so much, you may save me from a divorce & a headache.
The internet truly makes the world a smaller place.
Thank you again so much sir
hi followed followed the steps & the phone doenst find the passimg.zip file when it reboots
i renamed the original zipped file to passimg.zip & put it on the sc card
also tried to extract the original file that i downloaded into another folder, renamed that to passimg.zip & put on the root of sd card.
neither method seemed to work as when i rebooted the phone with Vol - key held it didnt recognise or find the file
i just get the fastboot menu
Please help
Check it's not called passimg.zip.zip
Quite common
thanks mate i checked that
i ensured that i could see the extension before i renamed the file
so the file is def renamed passimg.zip
please confirm that i needed to just rename the downloaded zip file & not extract the file & then zip it
what else can i check please
thanks Rusty

What ROM is on her phone currently? Is it rooted? Is the bootloader unlocked? These are all important questions =)
phone is running 2.2.1 at the mo
phone is not rooted or anything unlocked, she has only received the over the air updates to the phone but done nothing else.
I think that the issues she's been having have occurded since the last update.
when she first had the phone it worked a treat
thanks for your help guys
Well in that case she *is* on a basic stock ROM. What problems are happening on her phone?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
the keyboard often would just stop responding
the internet would work and then not work
overall the phone would be working a lot slower than when she originally got it which is why I want to revert it to the stock Rom
Just factory reset it
ok I tried to do a factory reset but that's just wipes all the data right and doesn't actually reset the software version
I have done this by using the option within the phone menu and then also done this by using the clear storage option from the fastboot menu and again it only clears the phone's data and not reset the Rom to original
Again, you already have a stock ROM! It's the newest version but it's definitely stock unless you made any egregious mistakes during the upgrade or made any modifications yourself. You've said it was never rooted, hence I must conclude that it's as stock as it's going to get.

As the bloke above me says, its already as original as it's going to get!
ok guys sorry about this, its probably down to my mis communication, I want to reset the phone to firmware version 2.1 which is what it came with as it was working fine then. I thought this is what was meant by returning to original stock Rom.
apologies for the mis com
how do I reset it to original firmware 2.1
Even if you did, it will bug you to update all the time.
You need a passimg file, the original one for the N1 (ERD79) can be found on shipped-roms.com
Rename it to passimg.zip, put it on the root of the SD card and power on the phone holding Vol- it will find the file and ask if you want to update.
Hello people, I hope I'm not being a 'bloody annoying bastard '- I really have searched the internet forums thoroughly for a solution to my predicament.
I recently bought a Bell network branded HTC Raider with stock GB (2.3.4) rom. I have unlocked the bootloader and rooted the phone. In my haste to get rid of the bloatware, I stupidly used Root Explorer to delete files instead using Titanium Backup - ergo, no chance to restore deleted stuff. Anyway, now when I press 'Personalize' on the launcher bar, and then try to choose any of the sound options,(ringtones, notifications or alarms), I get a message saying 'The linked program is no longer installed on your phone'. And if I try to change the notification sound from within, say, the messages app, the app 'has to close'. The only 'program' that I can think of that is even remotely connected with sound is Soundhound, which I deleted, but I don't believe that would be the cause. I can still set a ringtone using the ringtone widget, but I can't change the notification or alarm sounds, even though I can still see and play them in System/Media/Audio. Has anyone any idea what I have inadvertently deleted? Something from HTC Sense, I'm guessing. Is it possible to download the Sense 3.0 files and pick them apart to perhaps find what I'm missing?
Sorry if this is a dumb question - my first post and all. Cheers.

I was able to find a link to the stock ICS update RUU for Bell Raiders
(this will upgrade your phone to Ice Cream Sandwich and wipe everything)
If you want to stick with the BellMobility stock Gingerbread, I think I have it archived at home. I can upload it this evening if you want it.
Thanks to the ICS BellMobility RUU post by kennethpenn
http://briefmobile.com/download-htc-vivid-ice-cream-sandwich-update
(there are 2 mirror links available for this download)
and... here is the upload of the GB BellMobility RUU!
(filename: RUU_Holiday_BM_1.65.666.3_Radio_1.11.1020.03_30.77.551061.02L_release_222207_signed.exe)
http://depositfiles.com/files/ri3ygxwsi
.
Thank you, I'll try for the Gingerbread first, just to try to find out what I deleted. Upgrade to ICS I believe I can get from HTC OTA if I return the phone to stock first. I'm still new at this flashing business, so I'm grateful for any help.
OK . . . downloaded file, but unfortunately it is an installer package, and it won't install on my rooted Raider. Does anyone out there have it in a zip package? I'd like to sort thru the apk files.
Or at the very least, a LIST of installed apk's for the Bell Raider.

You have to relock your bootloader before running the ruu...its easy just download the toolkit and use the relock bootloader option...then run the ruu
As far as it in a zip file...I don't honk there is one for the bell...there's a rooted deodexed art one you can flash in recovery...don't know how that will play with your bell version tho

When you run an HTC RUU exe, it takes a little time to extract whatever files it needs. Once you get to the very first step of the RUU (where you get to click buttons), I believe you can go to C:\Users\whoever\AppData\Local\Temp (for Win7 users) and then sort by modified date. You should see a folder that was very recently created. If you poke around in there, you may find a file called "rom.zip". That should be the stock rom from the RUU. But what you do with it is at your own risk!
mg2 is right - just relock the bootloader and the RUU will bring your phone back to glorious stock. It's so much easier than messing around. Then you can decide what your next step is.

Yes, I realise now that reflashing the stock rom was the easiest way. You do not need to be S-OFF to install custom roms: just need to flash boot.img using fastboot and flash rom thru recovery
With S_OFF you flash kernel (boot.img) thru recovery instead of using fastboot

OK . . . got it. Thanks for that.
If you're a ROM-a-Holic like me (and maybe a few others around here) and want to try many different roms and kernels to find out what you like the most, you'll want to do the S-OFF procedure. It's not that bad, and it's definitely convenient to be able to download a stack of roms and kernels, put them on your SD card, and then sit out on the lawn enjoying some sun and flashing your phone silly directly from recovery without needing fastboot! I highly recommend it.

I agree! If you follow the instructions from the SuperGuide (stickied in the development forum I believe) exactly, you shouldn't have any problems with the S-OFF procedure.
Hi all,
Im usually pretty good with roms but i now realize i also can get ICS on which has opend a whole new world for me and suddenly i find myself in the noob seat yet again..
Im trying to install the newst Paranoid Andriod which i assume is this one:
pa_p990-2.6-08-newbl-tonyp.zip
I have downloaded the zip file as i do with all the other roms i have tried. I boot my phone into recovery and brows the SD card where i choose to install the rom. The installation start and after som time it pops me back into the recovery menu and nothing has happend.
I have tried to delete everything
I have troed with Miui version 4.3.2.8 and opti-trust 1.3A and those did the same..
Im suspecting that i missing something more deep with in the os. Maybe a kernal update or something? Maybe i have to update my andriod to ICS but i can't find out how to do that..
After allot of tried i finally managed to screw up my phone and had to recover back to a cyanogen mod i had stored on the SD card.
currently my phone is running with
Andriod-version: 2.3.7
Base band version: 1035.21_20120521
Kernal system: 2.6.32.55-Cyanogenmod [email protected]) )
Mod version is Cyanogenmod-7.2.0-p990
Version number is GWK74 (don't know if you need that)
can anyone point me in the right direction??
Sincerely
Offerlam
To start with, if you're using CM7.2, then you're on the old bootloader.
If you try to install new bootloader roms, the best that will happen is that they will not work.
Check which bootloader a rom is for before installing
Edit: You may have messed up your partition layout by flashing new bl roms. If this is the case and you are having issues, you will have to use the AIO tool from the development section to fix it.

Thank you for your answer but i need it to be dumped down ALOT more... like i know the technical term for a bootloader but what constitute a bootload on andriod? is this a bootloader P990_Stock-ICS-v28g-v3.01-standard.zip? I guess that must be ice cream sandwish? if so i tried to install it from the recovery prompt on the phone but that didn't work... perhaps i do have that patition issue you mentioned?
You have to download the old bl version of PA for your case
1. If you are unable to install/use any ROM properly after trying pa_newbl, it means that partitions have got messed up, and you need to:
Download AIO toolkit, install nvflash drivers in that, put internal_sd_fix from AIO thread and ROM zip file in SD card, then select option 4, and follow the process. Select old/gingerbread bootloader when asked, and cwm version of your choice. Then put a ROM flash int-sd_fix and the ROM in recovery.
2. If your partitions are ok (you are able to use cm7.2 properly), just wipe and flash pa-oldbl version (download link in same thread).

You have to download the old bl version of PA for your case
1. If you are unable to install/use any ROM properly after trying pa_newbl, it means that partitions have got messed up, and you need to:

My CM 7,2 works fine so i guess i have to go with option 2 BUT
Wouldn't there be other benefit by changing my bootloader to a newer one?

the recommended way is
wipe data
wipe cache
wipe dalvik
format system
flash ROM
flash Gapps (some prefer to reboot after this...I never do that)
flash the latest stable Kernel (usually Kowalski Kernel)
I am sure you can get past the start screen.....
Note: First time boot takes longer with this ROM....so stay normal
TRY to keep the battery more than 70%...so you can finish all this work without any power issue.
hope this helps my friend

HI..
How to i format the system? is there a option for that in the recovery console?
and thanks for your steps... they really clarified allot for me..
I havne't gotten a answer on the bootloader thing. I was suggestet to keep running with my old bootloader but wouldn't everything not work better if i ran with the newst bootloader or does that not matter?
Is bootloader = Andriod version? say Ice cream sandwish is a bootload? can you say that?

I'm just a new member (it's my first post in fact). I would like to ask a question directly to spyrosk (development-related thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020737) about the Toolkit developed by him, but as being a new member I'm not permitted to do so. Besides, I'm just an user, I'm not a developer at all, so my question below can seem stupid...
I used his toolkit installing the official ROM ICS 4.0.4 on my LG (using option 6 of the Toolkit). I want to root my phone but I have some doubts when launching its option 3, that are:
1) It says to choose one of the zip files from SU folder. There are three zip files in there. Assuming that my phone is already running ICS 4.0.4, I think that I can choose the SU313-BIN311_4ICS.zip, is that correct?
2) The procedure to put the phone on NVFlash says to press and hold both Vol- and Vol+ while plugging the micro-uSB into the phone. But until when? I mean, is it required to keep pressing both buttons during the hole process? The instructions is not very clear at this point...
3) It also says that the procedure will detect the current partition layout and ask you to choose a compatible recovery image. I don't have any idea what's talking about... What should be my choice?
In time: I used the V30A_00.kdz, obtained from the http://lg-phone-firmware.com/index.php?id_mod=3 site. The firmware is IMM76L.LG-P990-P99030a.1211302332.
Can anyone help me with these questions?
I am not Spyrosk but i have used this amazing tool...
For the option 3, simple way is to hold the buttons until the computer or your laptop recognizes your mobile.after that you can release it...it is the same for any of the procedures mentioned.
For the partition sizes i think it is in the thread and you can search. ICS requires higher partition.....but I'd you are in the ics by smart flashing or by kdz method, you are in the new boot loader and i don't think you need to change the sizes....but I'd you want the old boot loader....then you need to have the bigger partitions....but search inn the thread
Hope this helps you to start

Hi SREEPRAJAY,
Thanks for your reply. In fact you clarified just one of my three questions above. I´ve read the hole thread but didn´t find the answer for my remaining questions... Could someone else help me with this? I don´t want to try procedures on my phone that I´m not confident to do.
Regards,
for the first question...just flash it.as you have flashed the kdz before and on 4.0.4, you have to just flash it.nothing more is required.
and if you are on 4.0.4, then you dont need to re-create the partitions.if flashed with the kdz method, then you are on the new boot loader. to check that...once you flash the SU file in the AIOT.....just enter the recovery by power+volume down key simultaneously...if you see the pink LG logo, then you are on the new one....if on the white LG logo, then you are on the old boot loader.
let me know if there is anything more

Hi SREEPRAJAY,
Sorry, but the more you try to help and explain to me, the more confused I got. I still have doubts. Sorry for that. Let's try again:
1) It says to choose one of the zip files from SU folder. There are three zip files in there. Assuming that my phone is already running ICS 4.0.4, which file must I choose? Can I choose any one? What's the difference between them?
2) Answered OK. Thanks for that.
3) It also says that the procedure will detect the current partition layout and ask you to choose a compatible recovery image. What will I be supposed to choose? What recovery image is the toolkit referring to?
Sorry again, but, as stated on my first post, I'm just an user (not developer) trying to get full control of my phone, and trying to learn more about all those things...
Tks,

Choose anyone for the first question.you have already mentioned the file name in your first post i think
For the third, i am using the twrp 2.5 which is the most convenient.cwm is used with volume button keys, but twrp is more convenient with touch interface and also customizable with themes.
I am on my mobile and i am unable to look into more details.sorry for that
I hope you can proceed with this.

Hi SREEPRAJAY,
I have good news! I've just done the procedure to root my LG using the option 3's toolkit, and it ran fantastic! :good: But, I have some suggestions to Spyrosk. The toolkit gives you the choice to select one of the three compatible recovery:
1 - ICS-cwm-5.0.2.8e.img
2 - ICS-cwm-6.0.2.5.img
3 - ICS-twrp-2.4.1.0.img
I chose option 1, at random... I mean, I didn't have any idea at all what were the differences between those three options. Wouldn't be nice if Spyrosk give a little bit explanation about what the toolkit is asking us, I mean, giving a minimal explanation about what are cwm and twrp, and its purposes?
By the way, where I can find and learn more the basics of all this stuff, including cwm and twrp? I mean, I installed this with cross fingers and closed eyes, because I dont have any idea of what I had to choose. That's why I chose at random, option 1. Was it a good choice? I mean, what's the difference between cwm 5.0.2.8e and 6.0.2.5?
In time: now I have my phone running ICS 4.0.4 and ROOTED. I verified using the TitaniumBackup that asked for root access, I gave it, and it ran ok. Now I intend to restore some applications that were previously backup. You don't even need to install SuperOneClick or UnlockRoot to do it. This toolkit is really awesome!
Yessss!
Thanks
For the guide, you need to check and search .....if you don't want, check my signature(the big one)....have the links there

Thank you for the prompt reply. Well I follow the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2718150 instruction. I successfully completed to
- Unlock bootloader from htc dev, - donwload and Install Custom Recovery TWRPand - download and install SuperSu from TWRP link. But I missed to complete the S-off step (don't ask me why I didn't do it I really don't know why). Then I followed the steps in the following guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2386703 but when I typed :am start com.redbend.vdmc/com.htc.omadm.test.TestMainActivity nothing happened (I think it was because I was not s-off). So on other posts, (don't recall which of the thousands I read) I download the Sprint_M8_HK_Stock_Rooted_3.30.654.2_Deodexed.zip and using TWRP I tried to load it into the M8. Process was ok, but now when I turn on the device android will not run showing the screen above attached. Any ideas how to fix android and manage to sim unlock it? (newbie advice is much appreciated)
thank you for your willingness to help

The second thread you followed that gave you instructions to use the am start command is for the m7. It didn't work because the command isn't leading anywhere on the m8. As for the bootloop, are you sure you flashed the right thing? That is rom is for the Harmon Kardon m8. Can you post a fastboot getvar all (without your serial no and imei)?
no luck

Hey man, it's pretty easy. Download this file http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=9599 it is important that you use this specific file. Don't trip cause it says harman, it's safe to flash on your device.
After you downloaded follow this instructions.
1. Install WinRar, or 7zip.
2. Open the ROM in either of those programs (don't extract, just open it)
3. Navigate to system, then app, and there you will have to drag and drop the 2 files I have attached.
4. Let WinRar or 7zip save the file (It may take a while 7 - 10 minutes) BE PATIENT.
5. Transfer the modded ROM to your phone
6. Flash in TWRP (Make sure you wipe system partition)
7. Reboot to the system, complete the config wizar
8. Follow the steps to unlock (am.start....... etc.)
9. Enjoy
****** I WANT TO POINT OUT THAT S-OFF IS NOT REQUIRED TO SIM UNLOCK YOUR DEVICE ******
I have made a ton of these and NEVER had to S-Off
If you encounter any issues let me know.

Hey my friend. The thing is that the stock rom doesn't bring the 2 apks required to unlock. So you actually have to push them to your phone. The easiest way is to add them to a custom rom to set the permissions automatically. The other way around is to root the phone, put the two files into the system/app folder and then manually set permissions. If you prefer just follow the instructions I sent on my earlier reply.
Cheers!

thank you for your directions. good news Android is back to life again, bad news is that sim is still locked, I tried again from terminal emulator the (am.start....... etc.) but I got an error (please see the attached image). I follow all your steps very carefully, the only thing I had to do differently was that I put your attached files in the zip file using windows zip program and it did take a long time to finish (like 30min) I did try with winrar but it keep creating a new small file with just those 2 files. Is it possible that the 2 files were not added correctly?
Thank you for any advice on how to unlock it
going crazy
update: last night I tried the unlocksim.zip file and installed it on my device with TWRP, and then used the method with the the terminal emulator (am ...) and with the sim unlock helper too, but both send me the vDM client has stopped. I read it could be solved with insert coin system, so I go ahead and installed it, but still get the same message. Any ideas?

Hey guys, I am having the same problem. Unlocked, rooted, s-on. I tried installing the bad boys 2.1 mod you recommended on the first page, after swapping in the new files, and it still freezes at the HTC one screen. I did a factory wipe before the install as well. I am using a NON HK M8, however I thought that bad boys worked on either. Please let me know if I am incorrect in that aspect.
I am in a similar situation as I purchased this phone and now live in the Caribbean, sprint is blocking my new gsm carrier. What a headache sprint is.

Ok, I downloaded the file and installed it, but it freezes at the htc one screen. Is it possible that the firmaware version needs to be updated? other idea: On your #19 you say it is possible to push the 2 files directly once the system is running, is there a way we can try that?
Have you tried wiping system partition before flashing? What version of TWRP are you using?

ok, finally did it! wipping the partition did the trick and it finally worked ! Well its not a good news at all. Bad news is that even after entering :am start com.redbend... which this time worked and bring me the API menu and then after selecting Sim unlock (and nothing happened). reboot the phone and then entering the *#*#4636#*#* menu and seleccion wcdma prefered still nothing happened. I reboot and again entering the *#*#4636#*#* menu it appears to be again selected the CDM/EvDO.... option, once again selecting WCCDMA preferred and again nothing. I think it is strangethat after rebooting the system the original band appears again to be selected. I am attaching some images which I think can be some kind of help.
Any clue on how to achieve the unlocking will be much appreciated...
