Hi, im currently using samsung stock Kernel and stock ics ron 4.04 rom
Baseband version: N7000DXLR1
Kernel version: N7000DXLR5
Build number: IMM76D.DXLR5
i had rooted last time using cwm which is dangerous.
What i want to do now is to have a custom rom either cm or any other rom which able to be safe to wipe and change anytime
what Kernel can u recommend? Notecore, Speedmod?
It will be helpful if someone can tell me the steps as i was confused with some other post because i had bricked it 1 time before & i dun wish to let it happen again

Both are safe kernels and safe to wipe.just flash it in cwm and you are gtg.
For customs roms check android development section.hundreds of roms are there to make you happy.

Here it is
- Visit this thread post 1, method 1. and root it. (flashing Su + Busybox)
-Download custom kernel in .tar version, and copy it to SD card.
-Install and open Mobile odin
-Select kernel - point to kernel you have put on Sd card
-Flash
Done !
Use CWM to flash custom ROM (Follow custom ROM thread installtion instruction for custom ROM flashing)
Here listing of custom ROM by Jeetu1981

Meaning that just flash either Notecore/Speedmod thru cwm? I thought it will be unsafe to flash kernel from a temporary cwm on samsung stock ics? lets say if i flashed the kernel, is it safe to wipe on the custom kernel with samsung stock ics rom?
will i need to downgrade to pre-rooted GB to flash any rom or? (was confuse by the CM9/JB rom)

You can't flash kernel from stock recovery,Read my previous post. And don't use temporary CWM, that is dangerous to flash kernel.
If you are planning for CM based ROM, i recommend safest way is flash pre rooted GB ROM, wipe cache, delvic cache and data. and straight way flash CM based ROM from CWM, that will be easy for you. (In that case just ignore steps i have mentioned in previous post. You can straight way flash Pre rooted GB ROM, from where you are.)

i had done the flashing of speedmod kernel on mobile odin, now i get both SuperSU & Superuser. was it normal? theres no cwm in my app drawer.
i had also done backuped EFS. after flashing the kernel should i uninstall the Busybox using busybox uninstaller?
No dont use busybox uninstaller.
But you can remove superuser, use root explorer and remove superuser.apk from system/app
If you dont have root explorer Flash this from CWM, it will remove superuser.apk.
Yes you won't have CWM in appl drawer, but still you will have all function of CWM in recovery.

ok... and lastly i got 3 questions:
1)If i need to downgrade to gb(pre rooted) to install some roms etc. ltr, I can striaght away do it using cwm or must be pc odin?
2)if flash prerooted gb using cwm, will my current kernel(eg. speedmod) be replaced by the other rom kernel?
3)if i want to get back to stock ics .zip file(which with Samsung apps & functions) with custom kernel, can i can flash it using cwm/mobile odin from any rom? will it lose the root/cwm etc?
You need to use odin to flash stock rom
Mobile odin keeps root, pc odin will replace all.

when you flash any new rom you are taking a risk to cause EMMC Bricke, so the solution for this is before you flash any rom you have to keep a copy of Abyss Note kernel on your external memory card, then restart your phone in recovery mod and flash the kernel after that make reboot in recovery mod again then follow the new rom flash instructions
Note:
1- when you flash the Abyss Note kernel you have to be sure that really you want to flash a new rom other wise your phone it will not work until you flash the new rom
2- no need to flash this kernel if you need only to update your currant rom

This is only applicable to stock ics roms and custom roms using stock ics kernel (don't think there are any anymore). Emmc is not triggered by flashing but by wiping which is done in menu, dialler, recovery, by changing csc or flashing a full wipe ics rom.
All gb kernels are safe from emmc, abyss is a gb kernel, so the same goes for any gb kernel.
Just to clarify.

Hi, you should have choosen CF_Root kernel at the time of installation, instead of speedmod or notecore. CF_root kernel is fully rooted. Once installed, you can check if you got full root. Then you can simply flash either sppedmod or notecore whichever you like. Kingdroid 6.0 is coming in a day or two. when you go for it, you can take care of above.(seems KD6.0 itself is fully rooted. you get almost all details in kingdroid thread in development section. good luck.

I suggest you may downgrade to GB first, then go for the flashing Custom Roms (safe way).
i did choose CF kernel in aroma. but after that we have to download SuperSU from market and busybox and install it to xbin and then reboot and then update binaries of SuperSU ....phew !!
that was hard work !! :victory:
i hope the un installing and installing of busybox is safe from the ics kernel

Retain full root ( credit and thanks to grgsiocl guide)
1. Make sure you flash any GB rom and root it or else flash any pre rooted GB rom using PC ODIN
2. let the phone boot and after that check the USB debugging
3. Download the mobile ODIN from market and make sure you have some ICS stock rom to flash
4. Push the ICS stock ROM to your internal / external SD card
5. Open MOBILE ODIN and select the ICS stock ROM (there is no need for any ics custom kernel here)
6. select wipe data, cache and dalvik and also select everroot and inject supersu
7. flash firmware
8. Let the phone boot
9. Once the phone is booted, make sure you update SU binaries before you start using the phone
10. Select and flash any ICS kernel, preferably CF root so that it gives the recovery for the ICS ROM
11. Enter in to recovery and then flash any custom ROM including Classic ROM without wiping anything
12. Let the phone boot and update the binaries of SU...this way your phone is fully rooted

I am looking for an eMMC safe ROM. I just bought a GT-N7000, I had the i717 before this one. I've been baffled at trying to find information on what is safe to flash, how to flash it, and what isn't safe to flash. I am currently running CM10, but I'm having issues with the GPS, etc, not to mention I would love to use the S-Pen again. Is there a thread that gives all of the information about what I can/can't flash and not brick my phone? I've searched, but everything I've found doesn't say anything about the eMMC bug.
I apologize in advance if this is something that's common knowledge, it's just that I am new to the GT-N7000.
Thanks,
Rob

So, let me get this straight. You would flash the kernel and ROM through ODIN?
Thanks,
Rob
Kernels are flashed through ODIN or CWM, ROMs are flashed through CWM (or ODIN if its stock firmware)
Anyway, Your on CM10 now, So your obviously rooted with CWM too, So just simply download a safe kernel (I HIGHLY recommend HydaCore cuz' its awesome ) then download ROM of your choice.
2 ROMs I would recommend to try (this is completely down to my likings) are:
CleaNote (Made by same awesome dev as HydraCore kernel) Completely stock ROM but with all the crap removed - Design for Stock look and feel, But super stable and fast !
RocketMIUI - Made by an awesome dev who also makes RocketROM - This is MIUI ROM, Highly customisable, great theming and tweaks packed full of cool goodies and apps, But also keeps the S-Pen features and apps (such as SNote , SMemo etc etc) Also, Battery life is fantastic (Im getting just short of 2 full days ! )
Once you've chosen your ROM + Kernel, Place them on your SD card, Boot into recovery, flash the safe kernel, Go to advanced menu and select reboot recovery.
Now, Do a full factory reset, along with cache and dalvik cache (under advanced) then go to 'Install zip from sd card' then 'Choose zip from sd card' Then select your ROM
Leave the phone to do its magic and once completed, select 'reboot now' and enjoy
** First boot can take upto 10 mins - dont panic if you think its not booting, Just give it time. Also, DONT forget to do a backup before doing any of this, Either a full Nandroid backup and/or a titanium backup **
Best of luck :good:

So, just to be sure of what I'm doing here. Let's say I flash Cleanote, if I wanted to go back to CWM so long as I have a safe kernel installed I shouldn't have to worry about an eMMC brick, correct?

CWM is recovery, You will have it for as long as you use custom roms.
The brickbug only exists in stock ics kernels, so as long as you avoid using them you will be fine, plus, once you try hydracore you wont use anything else and hydracore is 110% safe so always use it when performing full wipes ect :good:

I think it was the Galaxy S3 that I had that the kernel had CWM built into it. That's why I was thinking when you changed the kernel you had CWM installed too. So the note has a separate recovery partition?

its mainly for flashing custom ROMs and do advanced tasks as the stock recovery dont offer such facilities.
more over ICS kernel is not safe even to do a factory reset. so if ever ur becomes slow and u want to do a factory reset u risk ur phone.
so better install a safe kernel and all safe kernel comes with clockworkmod recovery and its safe to do a reset
I guess safe to reset is related to kernel not to CWM? Why do we actually need to replace our recovery?

This is stock kernel but binary patched with MMC_CAP_ERASE removed from both recovery as well kernel

Thanks for your help guys. If I am to go to another rom (such as this), is it ok just to do the following:
Load *.zip on your SD/EXT Card
Restart in CWM
Be sure you’re on SAFE KERNEL, then you can wipe
Full wipe /data/factory reset /cache and dalvik
Format /data /system and /preload
Flash the ROM
Wait some minute until your phone boot!
Does the fact it is XXLSC matter? My kernel version is XXLRK... thought I'd better ask!
If you are indeed on stock lrk kernel now - you better Flash the LRK version of Philz kernel before doing anything. You are not on a safe kernel. You should not do factory resets in your current kernel. You will brick your device eventually.

Yes because cm10 kernel has secure erase suppressed and is thus 100% safe.

Haha, I'm never safe So can I go ahead and install this rom as it said? Does it not matter that I was on XXLRK and this says XXLSC? Sorry for the questions, I'd just rather be safe(r) than sorry
OMg! So much of confusion. What rom are you on now? When you go onto recovery, what do you see? Cwm-philz.?
Do you have the new rom download into the phone storage?
I'm on JellyBam. When I go into Recovery, it says CWM-based Recovery v6.0.1.9. I'm so sorry to have confused you! I haven't finished downloading the new rom. I know that what I am on (should) be safe from the EMMC brick, but I just don't know what the kernel version means. When I rooted my phone from stock, I installed PhilZ-cwm6-XXLRK-XEU-3.71-signed, as my stock kernel was XXLRK. What I don't know is whether the fact I was previously on XXLRK matters anymore when choosing other kernels/roms. Sorry again to be so troublesome.
Essentially, the whole confusion stems from not knowing what XXLRK or XXLSC refer to? I know when I went from stock to PhilZ, I had to make sure I got the correct version for my device, so I dont know whether I can now go to XXLSC.
So now you on philz kernel xxlxx.
JellyBAM won't boot on that kernel but it's safe. Download the rom and put in phone storage and do wipes and formats (system, data, cache, preload) and then flash the new rom. New rom will come with its own kernel (philz)
I've just looked into it, and JellyBam states that it features "Latest CM10/AOKP Kernel compiled from sources"... would I be best flashing Philz that I installed previously just to be safe? I think my recent bricking has made me too cautious haha
You can flash it using the cm10 kernel as well or philz too. Any will do the job well
Thank you so much for tolerating me Would you be able to explain what the XXLRK/XXLSC means?
Hi! So I've been trying to flash my phone back to GB Rom from my..I think its my stock ICS rom? (4.0.2) because I've rooted it already but haven't done anything else to it. I want to update it to CM 10.1 but I know it requires me to go back to GB before I can try to flash it to CM 10.1
I wasn't sure if I was able to flash my phone back down to GB Rom because I've been looking at threads.. and they said that doing that from an unsafe kernal (stock ICS) may result in a brick???
>< My Kernel Verison: N7000DXLP9-CL551076.
Not sure what to do. @[email protected]
Thanks for the help everyone
If you install a safe kernel on ICS, then you don't need to downgrade to GB. You can directly flash cm rom using Cwm.
On your ics rom you could install speedmod or hydracore kernel using mobile odin (as you said it's rooted) and boot into cwm, do the wipes and install cm rom.

If you flash a safe kernel, it won't matter. But if GB is the way you want to go, it's safe too.

^Oh really? >< I just really don't want my phone to be bricked is all..because I did see the disclaimer on that thread. If I put a safe kernel on- would I still be on stock ICS?
I'm not even truly sure how to flash it back to GB because I'm not sure which GB rom to go to
Thanks
Forget crap about going back to GB and paranoic flashing instructions. Flash a PhilZ kernel (any zip version) from stock ICS, boot into new recovery, make a backup, do wipes and flash ROM. That's it.

Thanks a lot for everyone's help. I did flash speed mod kernel and then just flashed it to CM 10.1 and it works perfectly.
