Is it just me or is Jelly Bean even smoother when using Samsungs own HWComposer?

I've basically just taken a couple of library's from the Samsung Jelly Bean leak, this seems to fix the memory leak issue on Jelly Bean. I've also included Samsungs own HWComposer since TeamHacksungs HWComposer isn't quite Jelly Bean friendly yet (this also fixes some bugs relating to YouTube and Landscape mode)
I would only use this as a temporary fix for the time being.

That's not the memory leak since the memory does get freed. The memory leak is only noticeable over a period of time where a reboot is required. Using the Mali library from the Samsung leak seems to fix this issue.

we're using hwcomp and mali bins from the first or second jb leak.
memleak can be fixed with r3p0 mali bins, which can't be used because of a major api change. requires a new kernel driver which we don't have till samsung releases kernel sources.
if you're using a newer hwcomposer it probably fails to load at all. without hwcomp there's indeed no video issue and everything is handled by cpu.
i assume you made things worse.

I think you're right. There is no gallery freezing either, but swiping through pictures is quite juddery and not as smooth as before flashing this "fix".
Still, I'm very grateful for the attempt by TheUnkn0wn to fix some issues.

I lived with stock ICS for about 10 days. I really prefer it to GB, but there are nuisances as well. Like everything getting stuck for about 10 seconds sometimes.
Do you think moving to a third-party ICS ROM would be a good idea? Which ROM is usually the best?
Cassie literom or cm9 nightly.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
ICS... I don't think any wow factor in there.. I have been using ICS since its release. Now am in custom ICS... Here are the main concerned for me. (may be still I didn't figured it out a soution)
1.Social network??? No Facebook support for contacts and calendar (third party works good but what is the meaning of smartphone?)
2. Text to speech???? I couldn't find talk back and couldn't setup navigation speech guidance (being a big headache)
3. Smooth????.... Ahhh no.. Not comparable to windows 7.5 or some other low end HTC devices (like wildfire S exampe)
4. Speed??? Yes ofcourse... I can feel the difference.. But I am not a rocket launcher to be perfect in micro seconds in everything.. GB is not less in this.
5. Performance??? I don't think they have used real potential of the processor and graphics
6. Additional Features???? Where is it... Where is it... Where is it....
7. UI??? I can vote here..
8. Memory handling.??? I have used number of apps in GB and I never I got once that am running out of memory...
9. Safety???? OMG.. Definitely no wipes.. Till a bug fix.
10. User friendly??? I don't think anything has improved form GB.
These are all my perspectives... I'm not a skilled user or developer.. Definitely developer may have the fix for these.. But I feel a major update should satisfy a normal person like me. That I don't find in the update and setting up something should be smart and effortless.
Now am planning to go back to GB if I couldn't solve all these.

Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
For me i swear by CM9, it`s solid, fast and most issues (should they arise) are solved within a couple of days (nightly`s). You will loose the S-pen options but there are apps in the Playstore for that.
AOSP/AOKP is also solid and fast but is more costumizable as for UI, but less updates .
I guess it`s best to both try them out and decide what suits you best.

I would wait a bit with JB until the main bugs are fixed. But I would propably test CM10 first.
I'm using Team Android Jelly Bean's version, V6 Beta. I'd recommend waiting till V7 is out, or try to find V5 somewhere on the internet. V6 is quite a bit laggy.
Slim ICS with DPI set pretty close to normal. It has no datadata/vsync/butter (none do atm) and it is super smooth and 8/10 for stability. Pretty good for an alpha release.

I flashed SlimBean today and once I'd worked my way past the bootloops, connection issues and TB FC's it's working nicely. :fingers-crossed:
AlwaysDroid, you've got the Devil kernel happening - which file did you use? The Devil3_1.0.0-Rc3_JB_i9000_CFS_BLN_VC_20120718 file or the Devil3_1.0.0-Rc3_JB_i9000_CFS_BLN_CMC_20120718? I'd love to give it a shot, but I really don't want to flash the wrong file - I've had a few soft bricks that scared the poop outta me until I managed to get them righted!
Does anyone has a link to the Team Android Jelly Bean's v5??
i´m using cm10 from 20120723 for aprox 2 hours now and compared to the last cm9 nigthly i think its in some points a little bit slower.
the launcher is very fast but if i wanna switch apps it takes several seconds.
and also in the settings its slower. but i have to say that i´m syncing a lot of contacts by using myphonexplorer during the time i´m testing.
hopefully it will get better after the sync.
and i read that it will get better after a day or 2 of usage.

Is there some development for 4.2 on the I9000?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
Of course it is. Bellow it's a quote from the developer Pawitp which maintain CyanogenMod CM10 for I9000.
pawitp said:
About 4.2, I don't really see any feature which will make you want to upgrade right away (from a user point of view).
From a device point of view, there shouldn't be much difficulties for us as most parts are already open source. The main difficulty would be that SurfaceFlinger currently rejects old hwcomposer, but CM should take care of that soon. They've also changed the bluetooth subsystem around, but we shouldn't have any problem with that. The most time consuming part would be to merge the current CM codebase with AOSP, since they are bound to be many conflicts.
The I9000 will get 4.2, but no ETA!

This has been answered at least 10 times =).
Anyway, The kernel we have right now is 3.0 but works only on sense. Some dev(s) are trying to get it to work on AOSP roms. Most of the bugs in the current Jellybean AOSP roms are related to that we use old kernel which has no possibility of fixing those issues. You can see the issues in their respective threads, they are similar if not identical. I really doubt it will be smoother , but considering it will fix a lot bugs it might be possible.
Regarding games, I have no clue. Don't games run smooth already?
I haven't come across any game that doesn't run smooth on my phone. Of course I don't run Jelly bean, but still.

Congrats and salutations! Gone beyond cooking and actually into development. Welcome aboard.
As I said, I am using cm10.2. Has bluetooth problem (partly better but not really well-behaved in cm10.1) but it does run much nicer than cm10.1. Also prefer its notifications features. Of course, sources you backport might gain some more speed and smoothness for your hybrid as well. As far as I got with cm11 experimentals, bluetooth turned on and off like in the old days. Found KitKat too dependent on Chromium which is armv7 so lets out our devices. So maybe your approach is the way to go. Are you daring to touch ART (OK, your ROMs are a work of art)??
What are you doing about selinux? Old recoveries will flash the ROM?
Fix camera default exposure? Have everyone eating out of your hand
All the best. Watching this one!
