When I tried updating my Incredible S to JellyBean from an ICS ROM, I forgot to S-OFF my phone. For some reason it reverted to S-ON when I did a Factory Reset so when I attemped the ROM installation it would not boot the phone.
I tried following these instructions but the file is apparently missing?

well because you unlocked your bootloader then i assume you have adb and fastboot setup. copy the boot.img from your rom's zip file to your adb and fastboot location. lets pretend its in your c drive in a folder called android.
next you wanna boot into hboot and go down to fastboot. go into it and when you plug in your usb cable it will go from fastboot to fastboot usb mode.
open command prompt and navigate to the directory. eg. cd c:\android
then type fastboot flash boot boot.img
wait for it to finish then reboot phone. if all goes good it should boot into the rom. you will have to do this with every rom you install while your s on

Yeah I did reflash each individual rom. I probably re-flashed over 10 times.
And i tried permissions aswell.
Nothing yet.
And what is busybox?
Its background support software basic runs some linux commands might get WiFi running.

Quick question: After you extract the boot.img from the rom zip and flash it via fastboot, can you leave the boot.img in the rom zip or need to remove it before flashing the rom? I am still S-on.

I sent you a link to the guide for flashing ROM/Kernels while on S-On, we can't post it here.
I can't seem to figure out how to fix mine. I've tried flashing the boot.img from the ROM, and I copied bcmd.ko or what ever to System/Lib/Module as well, nothing is fixing it but re flashing the ROM, but then when I install a kernel (Like the situation I'm in now) my wifi breaks. I worked hard to get my ROM and APN settings right.
Is there a way to fix it without re flashing and losing everything? Please rescue me. :,'(

You're going to have to reflash the kernel separately from the ROM. I have to do it the same way, bc I'm "S-On" still as well. That's the only way to get your Wifi working. Make sure the kernel's boot.img is in the same folder as your fastboot.exe and your adb files. Reboot your phone into fastboot mode, then connect it to you computer.. it should then change to 'fastboot usb' which means your phone is recognised. Open your command prompt in the folder with fastboot.exe, and run the code, "fastboot flash boot boot.img," if you see 'OK' msgs then everything is done correctly. Reboot your phone n it should work perfectly.

Hi,
I was just installing the CM 10.1 ROM and I received the error "Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped". After this, I tried to reinstall the stock boot.img I got from Android Revolution and I seem to have lost everything on the phone. When connected via USB, the phone folders are normally shown, but now they aren't. As well, when trying to boot, I get stuck at the HTC logo screen. I tried fastboot flash boot boot.img but I keep receiving the error that the device can't be detected and/or the partition "boot.img" can't be found. I did cd c:\Root (my rooting folder) beforehand and boot.img is in there. How do I factory reset as in reinstall original OS with HTC Sense 5 UI on it so that everything went back to when I took it out of the box? If there's a way to do it via TWRP which I have installed, I would love to know how.

im not sure but i dont think you can flash those. i think you may have to use adb and push the rom to the phone
So basically the only thing working in fastboot
somehow i have managed to wipe everything off of my device so there is no rom installed what so ever...which means i am unable to turn on usb debugging to get adb working. I am also on 1.31 so the RUU method will not work. i am able to flash whatever recovery or Superuser i wish and root/unroot as i please.
the only solution i can think of would be to flash a signed stock zip using "fastboot update signedstock.zip" but the ones i found here -http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2368907 dont seem to work. i get errors like no "boot.img" or "does not contain android-info.txt"
any suggestions?

just a fyi you can use fastboot to flash a rom if you put it in the same folder as the platform tools folder of your sdk, All roms have a android-info.txt file that's how android knows how to flash what to the particular partition.
you can flash any zip file from fastboot as long as it has the android-info file
fastboot flash zip nameofzip.zip

It does turn on and I can see the google logo, and I can see the screen with the apps then suddenly the phone restart by itself, and it keep doing that. I originally had CWM recovery on there and wanted to use the TWRP recovery instead since it had the HTC dumblock on there, which helped out before. While my phone was in it current condition, I downloaded TWRP and flashed it into my HTC ONE. I know I must have done so wrongfully because now when I try to go into recovery... it freezes during "entering recovery" and reboots into boot loop.

I've made that attempt already. But the strange thing is that it executes the command, but if used again it will give me a list of blocks and inods or something like that. But I will try the command and reboot the system. Ill update with the outcome.

Okay I erased the cache, it confirmed the command. I rebooted and of course it was in boot loop. I entered bootloader, then to recovery... and the same problem persisted.

(If you are using Windows 8.1 this will most likely not work)
On your PC go to device manager and find your phone(usually M7WLS), right click and select properties
Select the driver tab

Select browse my comp
Let me pick
Look for ADB USB device or similar should be one of the first couple choices
Select MyHTC install and you should be good

So what would you suggest I do from here. Again, my USER name says it all. I'm about to give up and go to sprint and ask them to do whatever it is that they can do for my phone.

Just to clarify, Windows 8.1 latest update has fixed fastboot issues! I was shocked after I applied the update I immediately checked fastboot and s-off'd

Not sure how adb was prior to this past week but I would agree that fastboot works great. Its the only thing that has worked or else I wouldn't have messed up my own phone.

Adb has always worked fine for me. However, in twrp there should be an option to mount, I've had to use this on my one x to load a Rom (and boot.img, since I was also s-on) onto my sd.
I flashed the Rom in twrp, reboot to bootloader then fastboot flashed the boot.img

Yeah, my adb isn't working and hasn't been working from day one. I'm sure I'm just missing the fact that I cant debug my phone because it's in boot loop. But one more step left to see if everything I've learn in the past week pays off.
