Glued screen means no more dust under digiter - Nexus 7 General

WhY everyone dislike the glued screen for me is a advantage since all phones I got, have dust under screen from 1990s alcatel to my recent moto atrix....

My iPhone 3gs has dust under.
My LG o2x doesn't...

Maybe in theory, but it sounds like the glue is not holding properly, at least on some units, so you end up with both dust *and* a raised screen!

It costs more to replace if glass gets broken. You need to replace the digitizer as well.
At 200 bucks, I'll just buy a new one.

Nexus 7 LCD display buyer beware.

There are guys on eBay selling the LCD only for the Nexus 7. Any potential buyers beware, the LCD is fused to the glass and digitizer. I don't even see how these LCD's could be useful. It would be a pain in the ass to separate the digitizer and glass. This will not help you if you have a broken glass display.
Do your research before you attempt to save money and try to repair your own Nexus 7.
Just a heads up. I've heard about people doing this for other devices.

but it is less likely with a case .. .that's the whole point isn't it?
I wouldn't necessarily warn people not to buy this. I broke the screen on my Skyrocket, and the replacement I bought was with the glass and LCD glued together. If the price is right, there's no issue with replacing both at all.
I dropped my Nexus 7 from about 5 feet the other day straight onto tile, and no damage at all thanks to my amazing case. I was about to mourn deeply had it been cracked at all. You just gotta make sure you get the case with padding over the corners. That's usually where the hardest impact is.

I used to have the screen unresponsive issue and had my Nexus 7 sent back to Asus for repairing. The technician had my whole LCD module repaced, which included the LCD and the glass and the touch panel (or whatever it's called). So, I believe it's supposed to come as a whole package in the first place.
You break a part of it, you have the whole LCD module exchanged.
Op, you might wrong. They do come fused together in all new devices I have disassembled. I have changed my cracked screen several times on galaxy S2, HTC desire HD, HD2 and iPhone 4, it meant changing both the lcd and touch panel since they are fused together to avoid dust and other particles getting in between.

The LCD is fused to the digitizer on the Nexus 7. Your argument is invalid, and your attitude towards the OP is unnecessary and unwarranted.

I can see if you just need an LCD that being an option. I'm just trying to inform people that the LCD is fused to the glass and that buying just the LCD won't help you much unless you want to remove the broken LCD from the digitizer and glass. (Sounds like a pain in the arse)

They fuse them together to make the combo thinner, among other reasons. Separating the two will likely be difficult, if not impossible.

+1 for the hairdryer treatment. It's the poor man heat gun. You'll find most, if not all devices have a bonded digitizer/LCD combo. I've repaired a many an htc device and they were all like that although the worst ones to do are ipads. They're well made with plenty of glue and real glass. I burnt out an one hairdryer dong it. Good job I'm bald otherwise I'd have very wet hair

Nexus 4 Replacement Parts

I know there aren't any out yet, unless I've missed some, but as the husband of a woman who just had her screen shatter when the phone was dropped it sure would be handy to have on thread where people could post links to parts when they become available.
I think this would make a great sticky so people can start fixing their phones ASAP once parts are out.
Well there is a section for accessories but I don't know of that would help. I am sure though when replacement or after market back plates are available we will hear about it here..

Remeber that the backplate houses the nfc chip along with some of the antennas (not 100% sure on the antennas) so it would be a costly replacement compared to a standard back cover

If it is anything like the HTC One X and similar phones you usually heat the old LCD glass/display and it unsticks from the main chassis, you then stick the replacement screen back on.
Unless you know what you are doing when replacing the LCD and in some cases have specialist tools and lots of patience, you are probably better off buying a new phone (when you can get them!) and selling the broken one for spares on Ebay.
Back covers may appear. The HTC One X had replacement back covers available quite soon after launch and these contain the antennas, which are little more than sticky bits of foil, and the NFC antenna, for around £28.00 in the UK. The charging antenna is little different to the NFC antenna and they are both together as one part on the Nexus, so that shouldn't make too much difference, but of course there is the glass as well. But hopefully not too expensive given the likelihood of breakages.

Phil

Waiting and hoping for replacement backs or a method to replace the glass specifically. My rear glass cracked on the first drop and unfortunately has a crack on the camera lens.
You are definitely correct about the NFC antenna, looking at the iFixit teardown it's just basically some foil glued to plastic. This should not be a major deal breaker in terms of replacement costs.

The backs should go for about $30-$40 once prices stabilize, I've taken mine apart and it looks fairly cheap to replace. The Digitizer and Glass (along with the bezel) usually are best when purchased as a solid piece (usually titled "Display with frame") and costs $200+ now and will likely stay $150+ in a couple of years. If you crack your display, mail it LGE as they will fix it up for about $150ish I believe, which is the same price you would pay if you had insurance through Sprint for a cracked digitizer ($150 is the standard deductible for a ~$8 a month insurance plan for the SGS3).
has anyone replaced the screen yet? my phone has slid off surfaces loads and never smashed. however a small bit of sand in my pocket and the damn thing gets scratched. i've had touch screen phones for years and never used a screen protector and never had a single scratch, this is my first "gorilla glass" phone and it gets scratched. looking for how difficult it was to replace?
I wonder when replacement ear piece speakers will become available. Phone is working great except for the crackling ear piece. Hopefully it will be a cheap part and easy fix.

Nexus 4 is super weak.

I own 4 nexus 4's two are replacement orders that I kept from google. If you squeeze in the bottom left corner it creaks and sounds broken. Pretty much all along the bottom if you squeeze it creaks. Now I don't have the time to order 4 replacements like some of you I just chalk it up to this being a nice cheap phone.
Never have I owned a phone so fragile and prone to scratches. If you use this without a front and back screen protector and a case your nuts. Maybe you like living life on the edge I don't know. This glass is whatever it is (not gorilla) it just sucks. LG we are not impressed and nobody wants your phones just stop it.
When I got my first two I was afraid to even take it outside without a case I mean what if a grain of sand was in my pocket and caused a scratch could not risk it. So I used it in the house only still got scratched maybe I left the AC on I don't know.
Now before you close my thread hear me out I'm not trolling I bought four of these and I like it mostly. Now I know why i don't want a 350 dollar phone that will break. Google got me with the nexus 7 that way and that cracked on carpet I swear to god. GOOGLE PLEASE STOP MAKING CHEAP PREMIUM PRODUCTS. I went through more than I have ever for a phone to get 4 of these.
And last the LCD is not good, yeah sure its ok but amoled any day over this. Colors are washed even after adjustment, custom kernel and a 5 dollar app. Viewing angles, stop it. Of all top phones this is the worst to me. IPhone and HTC one x way better oh and s3 too. LCD hurts my eyes for some unknown reason, was actually happy my screen protector blurred the screen a little.
Not trolling this is how I feel, I think the iPhone 5 is a beautiful and superior quality phone. I don't care for iOS all I want is somebody on stock android to do the same. So far it has never happened and I have been waiting years. So far galaxy nexus was best attempt just the hardware specs were kinda sub par.

I don't have a problem at all using it without a case and the screen protectors I use have no scratches on them. That means that if you are careful you won't have to worry about anything. I understand that the sand in your pockets might be a problem and the solution to that would be to clean them before you use them.

Your phone probably already has a ton on little scratches on it I don't believe how your phone could be flawless. And what's worse when you crack it and you most likely will the cost to replace the screen is retarded. An iPhone is only a 30 bucks to replace the digitizer. Not only that when you crack this one the whole screen stops working.
My gal nex dropped many times and screen is flawless. I'm not buying people telling me this is gorilla glass I don't believe it.

what's the point in this thread? its based on how you feel which sounds like you are going to troll.
why buy 4 nexus phones knowing you weren't going to be happy?
you claim iphone5 is better, that's your preference.
why state iphone5 is better when we don't care what you think, let users think for themselves,
you obviously not satisfied with the nexus experience so go somewhere you feel comfortable in.
my nexus 4 is mint, great screen and its worth it,
Valuable opinion, but this thread has to be closed.

Nexus 7 broken screen repair = do-able

I have found the nexus to have an eggshell screen having cracked two. The digitizer LCD are more or less fused so unlike my iPad 3 which works fine with cracked screen the nexus doesn't.
This repair is very do-able. I disassembled my nexus with my wife's hairdryer a small Phillips and small straight head screw driver. There are tons of great videos on how to do this. Bought a LCD digitizer off eBay for a bit over 65 dollars which included a kit of tools and excellent double sided tape.
I found removing the broken digitizer the easiest part of the repair unlike what the videos I watched said. Heat the bezel assembly for a minute and it comes apart easily.
If anyone wants to attempt this repair its not bad at all

Nexus 5 durability report (After one month on)

Hi ppl,
So after one month using the white N5 as my daily driver, these are some of the wear n tears on my white N5. I'm using Korean Edge Bumber on and off as basic protection...
1. 2 ultrafine scratches on the Gorilla
Glass 3
2. Fine scratches on the glossy side
edges
3. Scratches on the LED Flash plastic
(bummer for the quality of the plastic
)
All in all still quite satisfied with build provided you don't drop the N5, the screen will crack even when impact onto wooden floors...

I've had mine for about two months, naked. A couple very fine scratches on the screen (nothing noticeable unless you're really looking). The case would have been perfect if I didn't drop it onto a paving stone sidewalk (waist height). So there's a small blemish on the top corner by the headphone jack. Otherwise, she's clean.
One small crack in the upper left corner, and one larger crack at the lower left corner. Phone has been in a ringke fusion and I honestly don't know how the cracks happened, phone was fine last time I looked at it and the next I pull it out of my pocket and had the two cracks (thought they were hairs caught in the case as first.) Never cracked or scratched the screens of any of my previous phones (Evo, Nexus S, GNex). Fortunately the cracks don't cross the screen so I'll deal with it till the price on replacement screens come down, just a shame since I had been thinking of selling it to get the Moto X.
