Why my ACE does not mount SD-EXT at boot?? - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
I have a Galaxy ACE with Stock KTM Rom , CWM5 , and rooted with CFRoot b83 (b84+b84fix does not work on my KTM rom...dont know why)
I partitioned my 4Gb SD with CWM: 512 for Ext , 0 for Swap and rest for Fat32
I have even tried to format with Mini Partition Tool: Fat32 Primary and EXT2 or EXT3 Primary (4kb cluster size)
I can mount /sd-ext on recovery , even format it, etc.
But.. I have many problems with **2SD scripts, and I think that I found the reason: SD-Ext is not mounted.
I have installed Terminal Emulator, and I get this:
# mount | grep sd-ext -> nothing happens (it should show information)
# df -> /sd-ext is not shown
What can I do??
I know that Link2sd app works with Fat32 + Fat32 partitioned cards, but I need sd-ext to work , so Link2Sd is not a solution for me.
THANKS A LOT!!

You should repartition your sd-ext with cwm...it will auto partition it into ext4...dta2sd works with that...since you are using cf-root...your have a tweaks manager right?try to enable auto start dta2sd at boot...for a sd card, the one for general storage should b in FAT32, sd-ext should be in ext4 (although certaim scripts can work with other formats, but this is working better and faster, so why not?)...Hope it helps...

I have tried to make the repartition with CWM , into EXT4, and I have enabled auto start dta2sd at boot ...
But sd-ext is still not there.
I think that CFRoot is not enabling init.d support on my stock Rom.
Thanks for your reply..
Any suggestion will be welcomed!!

try this software for partition SD Card.. use Ext2 or other on file system. MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition on the Web
search on CNET Download. maybe helpfully
you can search in youtube "Cách phân vùng ext2 thẻ nhớ" and follow it
or you install ClockworkMod recovery
chose Recovery => advanced => Partition SD card
if sdcard have
1G => 128mb
2G =>256mb
4g=>512mb
8g=>1G
and the partition 2 is swap
you can chose 128 or 256
reboot and check in pc

I did google it myself and the link brought me here to read your snide response. I grow weary of the attitudes from people like you on this site.

Yes,you can.After that you can use S2E or Link2SD to config SD-ext.I gess you flash New Experience rom 9.9.1,it already has S2E and very smooth.

thanks... I tried to use it before and it creates a right ext 4 partition, but the rom (lenio rom v4) does not recognize the partition
I tried to label the partition "sd-ext" or with no label
but in both modes it does not work
incredible... I did the ext4 by minitool but the a2sd on lenio v4 does not recognize the sd-ext
update:
created ext4 by minitool partition wizard, but it seems that phone can't recognize it, coz the rom does not see the partition
is there something to do to make the phone create/see ext4 partitions?
tried the last attempt, with another CWM (5.0.2.8 touch ext)
I partitioned the SD, choosing ext4, but when I control, it's ext3
why that???

maybe the CWM failed to format it with ext4 file system,
or the ROM you use failed to identify ext4 file system, some guys told me there are ROMs that don't support the ex4 yet, you may want to read your ROM specification,
or somehow the ROM need additional script to read ext4 file system properly,
recently I've tried more than 10 times partitioning my SD cards, but most of it failed in attempts,
it won't be mounted as second partition, therefore I can't use Link 2 SD properly,
My ROM is PAC 22.1.0
I've tried partition tools: Minitool, CWM 5, AParted (SDCARD Partiton Tool) app, checked the partition table with Partition Table app, trying to mount second partiton manually with Android Terminal Emulator (using "mount" command), success using CWM.
I've tried ext2, ext3, ext4 partitions, but success only with FAT32 file system,
I think in the process I've delete some media in /system partition, maybe it creates problem since Link 2 SD need to modify some files in /system partition to mount the second partition,
I tried with Lenio vQuattro, partitioning with minitool, the sd-ext was correctly partitioned as ext4, but the phone did not saw the sd-ext. The rom is done to use only ext4.
So I went back to the most recent cm 10.1 (with ext3 and int2ext+) because this is my only phone and I need it to phone
Better use mini tool partition wizard..
You can choose the type of part,like ext2 ext3 or ext4..

Go to cwm recovery -> mounts & storage -> format sd-ext (It will format your second partition in ext3 format)
Reboot the phone and open link2sd and select ext3 as your second partition. If it still gives error go to more options in link2sd and recreate mount script and select ext4 and reboot phone
For full space problem, uninstall some unnecessary apps from /system and /data or move apps to sd card using Link2Sd

CWM Recovery v5.0.2.6 should have this option. I'm looking at it right now. Right below format /sdcard & Right Above mount USB Storage option is the option format /sd-ext
Anyway if you still can't find it in cwm, use minitool partition in windows to format the sd-ext partition in ext3 format. Link2sd has some issues in Jellyblast ROM in my experience. But it was solved for me by the method i explained to you in my last post. Also verify if you have got the latest version of link2sd.
Most importantly, please note that link2sd will only detect ext2 format if you are on stock kernel. It will detect ext3 & ext4 formats only if you are on Rafael's kernel

[Q] /data/app-lib in android 4.2.1 - link2SD will cause errors ?

I'm trying some custom roms, derived from cyanogen 10.1 i.e. jellybeam 4.2.1 (a new flavour...)
here i see a new folder in my filesystem: /data/app-lib
where are extracted libs from installed apk.
In previous version this files were in /data/data/<app_name>/lib
I 'll have some problems when using tool like Link2sd - that replace this files with simbolik links - now those paths doesn't match anymore, until link2sd will be updated....
Could someone confirm this ?
thank you...
are you sure link2sd is not updated for this thing
jb is out quite a time ago and I think link2sd is updated to ticker this out
i have android 4.1.2 rom but it doesn't have any app-lib folder in /data partition

for what i see, this difference exist from in 4.2.1=>cyanogen 10.1 (after 4.1.2=>cyanogen 10)
link2sd works for me on cm10.1 (android 4.2) so i highly doubt its not updated...
Hi!
I have the same problem on gio cm10.1
link2sd.info/faq
I found in the middle of page:
Q. Library files that I linked get unlinked after restarting my phone, why?
See link for answer, but at the end of that topic u can see this:
"You can use "relink lib files at boot option" as workaround."
What isn't help for me, because the free space stays at the same Mbs.
After relink lib files I recommend to use a root browser to delete the unnecessary folders.
But the sad news is that you need to do this after every reboot.
Yeah that's normal
You will need to make a script and have to out in init.d
In that way everything would be done automatically

Could you give some advice of how can we do it, please?
edit: I found the 11link2sd file in the init.d folder which contains the following:
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
#added by link2sd
LOG=/data/link2sd-11link2sd.log
echo "$(date) mounting..." > $LOG
mount -t ext2 -o rw /dev/block/vold/179:2 /data/sdext2 1>>$LOG 2>>$LOG
mount -t ext2 -o rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 /data/sdext2 1>>$LOG 2>>$LOG
mount >> $LOG
echo "$(date) mount finished" >> $LOG
Maybe the folder is not mounted because you have chosen the SD partition as ext2 (in link2sd app)
Where your sdcard partition could be of ext3/ext4
Review this
In minitools PW i partitioned the 2nd part to ext2 because the stock GB does not support ext3/4. (I have a class 4 sdhc card)
So now i heve to repartition my sd or simply change the setup in link2sd to ext3/4?
Who says ext3 is not supported (don't think so)
Try to run that app at boot with the help of script manager
It may work
Uhh... I'm a newbie yet.
I'll try.
Thank you!:laugh:
When the first time i set 2nd parition to ext3 on stock GB 2.3.3 and tried to connect to link2sd it said "your device does not support ext4!"
So now i have to repartition my card on pc?
the ext support depends on which kernel i have?
Yayy!!! Repartitioned the ext2 to ext4 and everythings ok.
After repartitioning i needed some reboot and relink in link2sd, but now it's awesome. :good:
After the third reboot my memory goes lower and lower. Now i have 93,43mb free space in /data with (all) 52 apps linked.
I made a backup in TB before the partitioning and restored later.
DSP manager,E-mail,Exchange2 and lockClock apks were deleted too and the market app was converted to user app so the system' size goes lower too. :laugh:

Int2ext on Jelly Bean

Hi guys Do I need a special version of int2ext in order to use it with Jelly Bean rom (in particular CM 10.1)? An ext4 partition will be fine for this use? Last but not least: to install this script is needed a special procedure (like mount /system and /data in recovery)? Thank you for your help and time Have a great life, peace!

1. Int2ext scripts work in JB
2. .ext4 is the best option
3. The procedure is always the same:
First of all create you sd-ext partition using MiniTool Partition
Code:
1. Backup your current data (optional)
2. Boot into CWM/Go back to CWM menu
3. Flashing the script:
>>> mount data
>>> mount system
>>> mount sd-ext
>>> format SD-EXT (YOUR EXTERNAL PARTITION, NOT YOUR SD!)
4. Flash the script!
5. Reboot system

Thank you so much for the fast and super-detailed answer. One thing I don't understand the reason why: the ext partition I crate in sd card with my pc is empty so why do I need to format it again with CWM?

You can create your sd-ext using your pc or CWM, I advise you to use your PC (MiniTools Partition). It's safe, easy and you can choose .ext4 format
Using CWM >> Format sd-ext command will wipe your sd-ext data, so don't worry about "re-format" your sd.ext, it won't change your sd-ext's system format
The best, the safest & the easiest way to create a partition on your SD card is always via your custom recovery. You can format it to the EXT4 file system using the EXT4 conversion tool by PSDNA. Mini partition tool killed my brand new 4GB class 4 SD card.
Also nothing special for Jelly Bean as @Viper The Ripper said. It is just the same drill & yeah, cronmod scripts support all android versions & the flashing procedure always remains the same. I recommend you to use INT2EXT+.

I created succesfully a 768mb EXT4 partition with Minitool Partition flawlessly. First I formatted the SD card with Windows. Than into Minitool Parition I deleted the whole FAT32 partition, created a new FAT32 partition set as active with 768mb unallocated. Last thing I did was allocate that 768mb as EXT4. All partition are created as primary, not logical. Also used diskinfo on android and got that 768mb working without problems. Hope my steps are good hints for you to avoid other dead SD cards

stock rom and link2sd: can't mount ext4 partition

i have my ace running with a stock rom again since my wife is using it.
I have rooted the phone and flashed px recovery. After that, I wanted link2sd to mount the ext4 partition but whatever I try: nothing works.
when I try to mount ext 3 or ext 4 in link2sd I get this message: can't mount: no such device
when I try to mount ext2 I get this message: invalid argument
I have repartitioned and formatted both partitions already a dozen times. why can't link2sd mount this ext 4 partition?
i created the partitions using minitool partition wizard. After I placed the sd card back into my phone, I rebooted into px recovery, mount the sd-ext and formatted sd-ext, and after that, link2sd still gave the same errors.
How can I get Link2SD working?

I forgot that stock rom can't work with ext 4. Changing file system to ext2 worked for me and solved the problem (for now).

Are you sure Link2SD works well on stock rom? Because last time I checked it doesn't work well on roms without init.d support. I myself couldn't get it to work on stock rom. It crashed most of the time. Do post the result.
