Is this normal battery drain? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys I get good battery when the screen is off. But whenever I use it, it seems like it drops pretty rapidly.
What do you think?

Depends on what you did during that period.. If the processor was running at MAX frequency the entire time, yes thus might be normal.. Also as I notice from the screenshot, the screen is always in in that time frame.. So you deduce from this

No. It's broken. You should send it to me.

Hi,
Thats an abnormal drain. Try restarting your phone and seeing if the problem persists. Also note that the ROM you are using is still under testing and not a finished product so might experience some difficulties. Consider shifting to a more stable ROM if problem persists.
Having said that, battery drain will depend quite a lot on what apps you have running in the background and your settings.
Best way to analyse the situation is by installing an app called 'Better battery stats'. Its by a XDA member and if i'm not mistaken he offers it on XDA as free download. Try to see what is causing partial wakelocks and kernel wakelocks (your phone should be on deep sleep mode for the majority of time). Try to see what MHz is your processor running at (it shouldnt be in the 1400 range for too long unless you are playing some heavy duty games)
Also try to search for threads on 'wakelocks' on XDA to get more details on this subject.
I have experienced close to 10% drop in 1.5 hr in stock ROMs and around 15% in five hours on CleanNote ROM in idle states with lots of background apps disabled.

Im about to just give up with this battery...its just awful. I have done all the things like turn brightness down and all those tweeks but ive not seen no difference really. Im not rooted and still waiting for that ics uodate which has not arrived to uk yet.

There are plenty of threads concerning battery life. Search and read. Download "cpu spy" from market so you can see if your phone goes to sleep allright.
Uninstall failbook or atleast keep it from updating every three seconds or so. Etc etc etc.
I have installed cpu but can u tell me how it works? Very confused on how to see if theirs a problem. My reboots i think are from facebook so ive deleted that app.

To use cpu spy....
Reboot your phone... Turn off the screen for few minutes... Then check deep sleep state in cpu spy.....
Has anyone tried the bigger batteries that you can get. Spotted some on eBay and amazon and wondered if they were any good.
I knot with some you get a replacement back as it increases the thickness of the phone but I don't know if this is a worthwhile trade off.
Cheers

I used stunner and I used to get 2 days plus with normal battery with moderate usage. Now iam getting 1 and half day with AOKP.
For CPU spy - see if u get deep sleep.
Also chk out with Badass battery monitor which app using the most.
Lol first analyse root cause. In an hour of non activity and not on charger pecentage deep sleep should be approx 80% two hours 85-90%. Figures based on clean rom, nocrapware and no rediculious settings. Thats one, two how long does your battery last when using phone nonstop? 2.5 to 3 hours is normal. 3-4 then you know what you are doing 5 youre a guru.
Lmao
If your cpuspy figures are lower then above then with better batterystats you can find kernel and partial wakelocks. Google them and find out whats keeping your phone awake.

Battery drain with the screen off

I've noticed that my phone spends much battery with the screen off, i think its te Modem what do you think?
Im on cm9 nightlies with semaphore kernel.
this was with almost all the time screen off and 2G, if its fault of the modem recommend me a battery saver modem.

You can instal the Devil kernel and activate "Deep idle"
Also try JuiceDefender
Sorry Bit i use both deep idle and also juice defender, i really dont know what to do!

I'm going to say it's the kernel as I'm running the standard one that comes with Cyanogenmod 9 and I don't have this issue. Actually, my battery is above average.
There's a big issue with i9000's running hot and having high drain at the moment. I'm not sure what has caused it on mine. It seemed to happen after I upgraded to CM9 but I have flashed back to 3 different varieties of stock ROM/kernel and same story. Gets really really warm when under load and battery drains at the rate of around 20% an hour when the screen is off, phone is in airplane mode and NOTHING is running (i.e. in deep sleep).
At a real loss as to what to do about it, I've seen a thread about 500 posts long on the official Android forums with i9000 and i9100 users all expressing their frustration over this.
In your battery stats what is showing high drain? Also instal better battery stats and run it for a while to drill down what is causing problem

Hey, appreciate you are well intentioned but have been through all possible diagnostic steps and all documentation/suggestions I can find online. I am an experienced IT pro and have tried EVERYTHING that has been suggested ANYWHERE by ANYONE and there is no fix.
Screen is showing the most, followed by MediaServer then Apollo player. Problem is the battery drains when all those things are killed (i.e nothing is running phone is in deep sleep). This happens overnight when nothing is runnning at all. The battery stats do not change. The processor does not show anything as being used.
Many people have already been through the diagnostic steps and there is simply no answer.
Refer this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1635614
There is a reported bug on the official android site as well but I'm on my work PC and don't have my history from home to drag it up again.
Basically symptoms are
- Battery drains exceedingly quickly ~15% when idling and 25% per hour when in use.
- All diagnostic tools show nothing running or using your battery or CPU
- Phone is warmer than usual in any state (i.e. idling/charging/under load)
- Most folk I've seen with the issue have flashed to CM9 at some point but that is not a consistent truth.
Another screenshot that shows that the mobile standby consumes almost the same of screen

In your first post, i saw your "señal de red móvil", is very poor. Have one or two little line green ( best signal ).
As is the signal coverage where you are? The signal is good or poor?
and when you get with wi-fi on, the battery drains very fast.
Sorry for my poor english.

Did you have this problem from the beggining? I am using Dark Knight 3 ics, and for many months everything was okay. One day, i had battery drain. Even after a reboot, the drain was there. I reinstalled and it works fine again
guys, now i have a almost one full day with normal use, i dont know if i can get better results or whatever, but im happy with this result, i've done it downgrading to GB and i'm happy with it, but i would prefer to stay in ICS, but well im not bad with GB.

Is samsung gonna fix the bug on 4.0.4 or what?

Hi fellas,
Im just wondering is there any fix on 4.0.4?
I mean the battery issues and overheated device? Cuz im thinking of rooting my device in the end to just giving it a try. But it will void the warrany for sure. So, just wanna know if any of ya all just happen to know if thers any fix coming out real soon. So that i can wait.
It seems that my device is now consider as useless piece of s...t just wondering why would i want to use this so called smartphone if i cant use live wallpaper, push email, screen brightness for my luvly super amoled screen and so on if it drains the battery like thirsty camel. It just a thought tho.... U guy might be thinking the same. So, i did all the the things like calibrating the batt, installed cpuspy, take out the batt on plane mode trick and so on.. , yes it did help the device to sleep. But it drains when im using it for 3 hrs with a lil bit of surfing, emails and sketching .it just doesnt make any sense at all.
Dont you guy think that samsung is trying to lure us to change to s3? Or note 2? Well it did cross my mind. Lol. i might not consider samsung in the near future. I guess, htc x one is my choice cuz it offers 6hrs batt. Hehehe

dude battery life with screen on in clean condition, without fancy stuff is only 3.5 hours. Some with other kernels/roms have reported 4 or even 5 hours, but that's really max
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
It is a power hungry phone,
Large screen - If you've got your brightness all the way up will use more power
Live Wallpaper - Pretty - Battery drainer
Games - Power hungry
etc
As mentioned - you cannot expect to use a phone like this for 8/9/10 hours with constant use, At 3 hours constant use, screen on, probs wi-fi / data, Gaming, listening to music.. you will see the battery drain quicker..
Could alsways pick up a one of those larger Mugen Power Batteries / second stock battery if your usage demands it... I've got two stock batteries but the actual amount of times I've need to call on the backup one is rare, I keep it handy as both me and my girlfriend have GNote's.

Well then there are ways to analyse, as posted above for abnomal battery drain in deepsleep, when not using phone. That is one option.
Best guess is to do a full clean install of 404 by going to gb through pc odin, root it, get on cwm recovery, wipe cache, dalvik cache, backup efs, save pictures on computer, backup messages with app from play, sync contacts to gmail and then backbin recovery format everything in mounts, except efs, ofcourse.
Then phone wont boot, but is truly squicky clean. Then go into download mode and flash throught oc odin a stock 404 rom.
Do not recover apps/data, just manually redownload them.
Dont ever on unsafe kernel from stock ics do these steps. EVER!
Then download cwm. zip which is temp and flash speedmod k3-11 from recovery. I bet your battery life will improve and you will get 4 hours screen on time. Not as good as on gb,but still better then now
there are threads for every single step here, start in dr ketans thread in sticky section of development. Then tool thread of dr ketan in general section.
disclaimer: you can and will lose data and possibly warrantee

But yeah, thnx for the info again, but thats the problem bazz, i just need to know bout the fix. Tried to call samsung support but they are not too sure bout it. Cuz im willing to wait for the fix but not too long. Currently i hv dis dilemma of maybe selling the phone with stock rom, and buy another phone
or rooting this phone which im not too sure how to go about.

2.UnplugTurn off phone and charge for one hour
3.UnplugTurn galaxy on, wait 3 minutesTurn off phone and charge for one hour
4.Reboot
And now my batt is coming back to its normal performance... I get around 11hrs 45 min on standby and at least 6hrs of moderate usage.... Thank god. Hopefully it will last..

lol email push 5 min, dont think you know push technology...
Anyways, those six hours is not with screen on all the time.
Doing the steps I mentioned however will force a full clean install. Then test without restoring apps battery, you will be amazed. Then install in batches or one by bone to eliminate possible culprit that impacts battery life.
Perhaps even better to go to samsung/shop where you bought and ask them to fix it If it is battery they will catch it and replace Less risk for you

Obtained this info from another thread:
about the alarm_rtc wakelock;
install terminal emulator from market and type these commands:

- dumpsys alarm ( followed by ENTER )
it will dump some info on your screen
scroll upwards a bit and search for 'Alarm Stats'
here you can find the processes that keep your phone from deep sleep

[Q] THE SOLUTION to poor battery life

This is getting really annoying... battery gets charged to 100%, drops slowly then after <50% the phone starts to get hot and just start dying rather quick. I have changed batteries, actually bought a new one - still having the prob. I think i know the culprit but not sure how to attack it. Unfortunately because of my post count, i can't upload a link to the screenshot

No overclocking or undervolting - don't really mess with those things.
Anyway, when i check battery usage "Media" always use the most when i notice the phone start loosing battery life n running hot. There is a time when i saw Media at 88% while everything incl. screen was less than 20%.
...maybe a rogue app or something syncing constantly ??

You probably have com.Android.Media process running all the time..
I had the same with all recent kernels until I have reformatted my both SD cards internal and external.
Media scanner should be out of running processes after five minutes after boot.
I check them via terminal from :
top -m 10
command
Or
busybox top
In five minutes after boot I have almost zero CPU usage from top statistics
Hope it could help you

Battery burning super fast?

Whilst I have been having the screen on, it shouldn't be burning this fast and it certainly didn't use to. 23 minutes on battery and 20% burned?
Did you install a new rom or new kernel? You can install an app like BetterBatteryStats to check out what might be causing this battery drain.

Stock ROM 4.0.4 and have never rooted or flashed anything on before. It is completely stock and unaltered in every way. All I've done is install apps. It just seems to have been a little bad recently. I have BetterBatteryStats on, but the it isn't wakelocks. As I said, I've got the screen on consistently so the phone will always be awake. It is just that 20% in that amount of time seems really high, even for constant use, and I swear it didn't use to be that bad. I've installed Juice Defender because it tends to be good in how it managers network and WiFi. So far, things seem to be stabilising. But, I still want to know what can cause such sharp drainage...
Do you have a lot of apps running in the background? This is most likely the cause. Brightness is a big issue also. Flash a kernal!

Check that you have Auto-brightness enabled. Also, I found that certain apps can drain battery big time. I agree with checking via a battery stats program. Maybe an APP is running in the background causing the cpu to stay at max speed?

Totally agree. Before I root my Note to delete some unuse apps from stock 4.0.4, the battery drains very fast. The most reason is some apps running in the background.
Did you change your sim recently? Sometimes the culprit is sim card.

Not fixes, but suggestions:
- An app like Green Power will stop data usage when screen off
- As others said, look into your display. My favourite app is Display Brightness as it adds an invisible slider on your screen
- For some reason, Chrome in the last week began to EAT my phone. I uninstalled it and I'm back to a blessed 1% an hour drain

You may have to check your battery. Will it be hot when you are using it? Look at your battery, does it look "fat"? It happened once to me before, after changing a new battery. It's fine now. It was caused by overcharging it during the night.
I experienced it on my previous phone, now im going to prove it again in my note because i changed my sim recently and now i cannot achieved the 5 hrs i had before that my original sim card, best phone can do now is 3.5 hrs. I try to contact my provider if they can restore my previous sim card and see what will happen, its just a suspect.

that's your suck battery problem.
Network location awake the phone constantly in accord with weather widget and lot apps in background that use this feature.
